@egbonnia And BP was fined exactly how much and for doing what? Now I query you're enlightenment but I will still try. Now take a drum of sludge like heavy equipment or machinery oil and empty it into an Olympic sized pool, after which you should try to clean up the mess. Do you know how much crude, not petrol was gushing into the Gulf of Mexico on a daily basis, about a third of Nigeria's current output .670,000 barrels of crude per day destroying the fragile ecosystem and the means of livelihood of the people of the area. Have you seen an oil spill before, you think it is bread and AKara to clean a terrestrial spill of 1 acre talk less of thousands of square miles of violent ocean. I can't shout,it is new year. |
Even if MTN finance 15% of 2016 budget, naa who go finance 2017 own. Etisalat,GE,Unilever,BAT,Maersk,Huawei and co,watch your backs, they say there is a new sheriff in town but like the old Wild West ,intoxication was one of the problems even law enforcers faced. The Wild West is fun to watch on TV,but was a horrendous, lawless period in American history. We don't need this sort of irresponsibility from our government, but like the old westerns, the gallery (Nigerian youth) is always cheering even if they understand not the repercussions of the sheriff's actions. |
@philip70 and adjoy I am not saying what I do not know,I understand the workings of international business and only come to nairaland to feel the pulse of my people. Poor people with a poverty mindset always feel it is ok to reap where they have not sown. That is why a hardworking man will die in Nigeria and his good for nothing brethren whom he had supported financially while he was alive as they sat on their lazy behinds would come and kick out the legitimate heirs to the man's fortunes. Same way omoniles some of whom were born in kogi or shaki will harass you for fence, for decking, for roof. These guys are not a problem, the supposed educated class that support such behavior are the problem. In this case, your government is the Robin Hood, stealing from the rich. (MTN) and redistributing to the poor(2016 budget) and you are all there cracking jokes as an iceberg the tip of which only you see tears into the hold of your ship(hoping the titanic comes to mind) Of fences and infractions are part of corporate existence but penalties are always commensurate with the size of the economy. Ole jati jati in government yi,what would they have done if Apple was here with profits of 53 billion dollars a year and more. Probably shut down NNPC and form a parastatal to collect money and then the National Assembly would form commitees to oversee what the parastatal is doing. What a joke, serious countries encourage enterprise and nigerian youth are shouting unemployment, una never see unemployment. Chase away investors and see what is left of your country. Education is not a degree from some mushroom university and some mouldy graduation regalia,it is in the mind. Renew your mind and get world wise. |
MTN will be foolish to pay this fine. Why should one company pay for a whole country's collective myopia and inability to diversify its economy. I have always maintained this stand and I am in no way connected to mtn. Read my previous posts before you spew trash. Nigerian youth, get brain in the new year, your apc govt are lecturing you on extortion 101 and the Acts of a government so thirsty for power but lacking in the means to rule. |
@excuzeme I don't know how old you are,or how educated you are or should I rather say how enlightened you are because in Nigeria graduates are a dime a dozen but one thing I am certain of is that you certainly don't understand the A of my thought pattern talk less of B or k.i feel like someone speaking to you in the language of the native people of Guam. Where is that did I hear you ask? Don't bother but while lazying around, broaden your mind and learn how the world operates. |
Sad to realize some Nigerians still feel this is a fair call. This is day light robbery, extortion. We won't realize the impact of this fine till in a few years we plot the trajectory of our FDI.our country is broke, oil revenues are declining and you are tightening the ease of doing business. What a calamity waiting to happen. All the so called multinationals that nigerian youth who are clamouring for the head of MTN apply to work at are keenly observing this development and assessing their options in case this is a new policy direction. To all you town criers announcing the emergence of the new sheriff in town, well let me tell you who he reminds me of, Robin Hood.A people's champion who stole from the rich and, royal and gave the poor out of his loot. He was hailed, but he was also a thief,a common criminal.Venezuela 's Hugo Chavez once tried stealing from the rich western oil firms and in fact he succeeded and stripped them of billions of dollars of assets but where is Venezuela today? Broke, confused and possibly full of regret. They chased away FDI coz petrodollars were flowing and they were even playing regional God just like Nigeria, dishing out money and playing to the gallery sticking their middle finger at any opportunity to the U.S. How times have changed as the socialist party lost most seats in parliament to the opposition just two days ago. Mark my words, five years from now some intelligent people will be reviewing the policies of this administration and it would be almost unanimous that this fine killed this country. |
@xvenus So MTN nigeria or as a group makes 5.2 billies of Benjamin Franklin faces in a day or two. I wan vex before but then I realized it was most likely Friday night where you were and you prolly were at some dingy joint, getting intoxicated on paraga. Stay away from gutter brew young females if you don't want to display ignorance on a global forum. AT&T and Verizon are the biggest networks in the us,how much them make as income in 2014? 130 billion average ,divide that by 350 and ur statement is obviously a regurgitation of beer parlor poo.popular statements that are hinged on the delusions of ignorant ppl. MTN nigeria might make 5.2 billion in a day,but it obviously would be in your dreams and certainly not in dollars. You need to be wearing pads over your mouth cos Madame you be menstruating sh.it! |
@adaweezy The U.S. is a huge country with several states more advanced than most countries. What you see on CNN is just the tipof the iceberg with the deep workings of government oblivious to most people. There are a group of people in Washington known as lobbyists ,some of them earning more than the u.s president and their only work is to push the agenda of whatever interest group it is they represent. Every few months a school shooting takes place in America the great, yet dem no ban guns, why ? Some Eco obsessed billionaires secretly fund the worst of the lobbyists known as environmental lobbyist and they no dey gree at all. I personally with a lot of people in the us believe the environmental agenda is way over rated but these people have managed to make it a front burner issue. That is why way before all the penalties were announced, British petroleum jejely started selling assets and telling their shareholders that the Gulf of Mexico disaster had put the company on a very long ting that they have since not recovered from. Contrast that with Nigeria,no enabling business environment,ad hoc ever evolving business policies. What do we stand for as a people, how have we helped MTN make the billions that they make? Which infrastructure dem meet for ground, power you no give dem, security no dey, many base station operatives were kidnapped in the restive Niger delta those days and we all keep shouting South Africa. Wetin South Africa do una? Naa crime to get senior brother? |
@adaweezy The Yorubas have a question they would ask in a situation like this, ' ki lagbe,ki le ju?' .it could also be likened to killing a sugar ant witha sledge hammer. Takata a Japanese airbag manufacturer has been embattled for months and a massive recall of cars with their airbags was mandated. Some people even come congress come testify say takata a dey culpable following injury or death sustained following accidents. Now the lives of U.S. citizens are involved here and the recall is like 16 million vehicles, how much dem fine dem? Vw for a few years was the highest selling car manufacturer in the world and to operate in certain markets, your technology ought to meet a minimum benchmark.quite frankly vw lied that their diesel vehicles were more environmentally friendly than they actually are.Let me school you a bit, Germany is more technologically advanced than the U.S. and they practically control the European union.germany will not take kindly to any product falling beneath e.u standards cos that is just who they are. Several items are banned annually for failing to meet european standards such as beef, toys etc How many Americans dey drive diesel sedans?so why is the vw penalty so plenty? The U.S. discovered a window of opportunity in their protectionist agenda. Americans despite the Gms ,Ford and Chryslers are choosing to buy Mercedes,Bmws ,and Vws which include Audis and Porsches. All these vehicles are German and superior to their American contemporaries. Do you think for the life of you that if Chrysler was the offending brand that you would hear all this noise? Naaaaaaa ! |
@adaweezy If I start with you,u go fear ooo. There are people who regurgitate information without having the capacity to analyse and link different events.it is so easy to tell you do not have a clue about international events mentioning us,vw and MTN nigeria. I don't want to waste coordinated eye hand activity on someone who would obviously not get it.I realize you will get what I just insinuated on the 10th of November. So wallow in ur obvious ignorance. |
I have been away from this forum for a minute, but I just can't take the foolishness of nigerian youth anymore. For all of you asking for the head of MTN,I hope buhari doesn't foolishly listen to yo all.how can you charge a 1 trillion dollars fine, for what! It is alarming that NCC would slam such a ridiculous amount on MtN,in other words they are educating the masses on how to reap where you have not sown. As a disclaimer,I am Nigerian,I have never owned an MTN line and I do not work in telecoms . NCC are a bunch of jokers,MTN wild be extremely foolish to pay this fine and Nigeria will be far too myopic to endorse the collective death of enterprise. The joker called Mugabe seized land belonging to white Rhodesians for generations when he had nothing else to offer after years of kleptocracy, but with the redistribution ,where is Zimbabwe today? Didn't Venezuela nationalize the oil companies, where are they today? The foolish guy that started their headache is dead and gone but the people s till dey suffer. What could be more moribund than Nitel and you people are hoping SA wild abandon their sweat so like Nigerians do,u can joyfully eat a meal prepared by another.afterall we hear stories everyday of hardworking men dying only for their loved ones to be rendered incapacitated by hawk eyed scavengers that call themselves brothers of the deceased. Even if they gave you a trillion dollars!you would squander it without the ability to work hard, develop infrastructure and plan for the future.i hope MTN leaves so you can understand what a tsunami of economic disasters feel like.Apart from GT bank,I seriously want to be educated about how many globally acclaimed brands have emanated from Nigeria. What a shame, but post arpatheid, the South Africans are still schooling us. Just tell me the worthy replacement of dstv ,I laugh at the level of economic ignorance exhibited here by supposedly well educated but in my own opinion broader picture bankrupt Nigerians. |
To be sincere, sholee. by Sean tizzle is bigger individually than any of burna's songs but collectively burna's has got more body of work but in this day of social everything, maybe Sean tizzle is getting stuff for being a better managed brand.all I have heard about burna in the past few months is negative stuff except for his glo deal.so maybe u need people to like you if you wanna be called for shows and win awards. For me I stopped watching award shows when India arie was nominated for eight awards at the Grammys but lost everything to Alicia keys who won seven that night.to me India arie was much more deserving but Alicia keys is easier on the eyes. |
@k style I thought I was the only one feeling that song by patoranking ft timaya.i get so excited whenever I hear that intro on radio and it is just a beautiful song but they have a point with waje's song .it is we'll put together and reminds me of this old Jamaican Classic that goes,' no ,no,noooo,u don't love me and I know now........'I can see the old lady's face but can't remember her name. Is there anyone out there that doesn't download songs they extremely love so they don't 'hear it finish?' |
Been a while I wrote anything on this forum but can we just allow a honest point of view for once. One man's progress is definitely another man's everyday occurrence .Thank God your hubby could bring back a bunch of stuff in this tough times cos it definitely makes the season merrier and if you term it progress then nobody has the right to tell you otherwise. As for the jealousy bit,u most certainly are right especially if you are a very intuitive person but your motives matter. What does your body language say?were u hoping she would die from envy upon seeing empty cartons of brand new stuff waiting for lawma?envy is a natural instinct though negative and a lot of people whether you like it or not cannot stomach the thought of others doing well.progress in others makes such people query why God seems to favor certain people and not them.i have heard of girls who started being unfriendly once their girlfriend got hooked to a correct bobo especially being single and I have heard of neighbors complaining about the size of a petrol gen in a compound where everybody's gen made noise and don't even let's talk of the reaction of certain people to a family's frequent travels or acquisition of a new car.U might realize they are jealous or envious but rather than feed their negative emotions, make them comfortable with kind thoughtful remarks, and if they still can't stomach you, like the words of Rick Ross in that p square song, their negative emotions will only feed their cancer!hope I did help you and ignore these internet bullies. |
@akereconfi U harsh ooo,but I seriously query your mastery of the English language. U dey try but inno reashh.there is absolutely nothing wrong with that statement,go back to school before u judge. |
It is very easy to appreciate now why an entire generation had to die in the wilderness and how only Joshua and caleb in the bible made it to the promised land.no be everybody fit follow us enter our own land of milk and honey for naija. The mindsets of our youth just no be am at all. |
@duni04 I have no qualms with this man wanting to run from harsh working conditions,my problem is most people's attitude to the bond the man signed.A bond is a signed contract binding you to a Corporate entity for a specified period.U provide your skills and they reward you accordingly, monetarily and in other ways as specified by your contract form or employment letter.why didn't you consult a lawyer before signing the bond, now you see gbege, you dey run. one of the most used terms amongst youth in Nigeria today especially artists is 'endorsement deal' .When an artist endorses a particular brand, say an mtn or etisalat,he or she is paid Heftily and signs a bond that says for as long as he is signed to that brand,he can't be seen fraternising with a competing brand or engaging in behaviour that will marr the integrity of the brand he represents.M.i no fit go waka for mtn yellow carpet after he don collect adenuga money neither should Tiwa savage or wizkid be seen drinking coke in public.if they like let them forget themselves and just misdo,a bond is a bond,if you can't honour it,don't sign it. a paparazzi snapped the wrist of a supermodel recently and she was wearing a wristwatch that wasn't the product of the brand she had endorsed .even though the gbeborun had invaded her space to obtain the shots, she was dropped and lost millions in endorsement fees. That is how civilised folks roll. |
@itoroetti Have you eaten today ? |
What has Natasha said that is untrue?all u shouting ' crucify her' ,I simply wonder how your daily lives are?what is ur attitude to honest, hard work and what values do you place as important?telling this guy to miss from work is akin to telling someone that gets a 6month visiting visa to miss once he has crossed heathrow, after all, many do it without consequence until one day someone is deported. No country can be greater than the sum total of the positive values the citizenry hold dear.if you like speak all the English in the world, after all you have a plum job and earn a fat pay,but if you encourage the wrong thing,no matter who you are,you are a product of the gutter cos we are the products of how we think. |
@Natasha People will never realise the value of truth till its consequence strikes them. Are Nigerian graduates lazy?In my own assessment, absolutely with a capital A.how about their sense of entitlement? These bunch of poorly educated so called stars(especially the ones post NYSC)attend job interviews and mention sums they intend to earn, sums that are so divergent from their numerical abilities. They hardly can write a decent letter with the right tenses, can hardly think backwards to solve a simple problem and yet they feel they deserve the world. If I have not met and interviewed a whole bunch of them then I would be totally unfair right now but it is just pathetic how bad our products are and Natasha ,let them crucify you, your tone was stern but absolutely required. To those of you shouting Indian this,Indian that,go outside the shores of this country and sign any form of bond with the intention to breach it and get schooled in what the word 'cicilized' means. We all talk about your word being your bond and not reneging on a promise made.Haven't you ever heard that you can't eat your cake and have it?You signed a bond that stipulated the terms of your release.if you are not happy, guy produce the 250k and stop immersing the reputation of those of us that intend to live right in the mire of a perceived morally bankrupt existence. |
@shereef19 Tell dem cos me I no understand wetin dey happen for this country oo.these lunatics in power are violating the future in public and brandishing their blood stained organs in public.God has delivered us,now we need to deliver ourselves. |
U see why dey pay oyel workers plenty money?it is cos of sh.it like this.imagine the mental torture this guy endured knowing he was most likely gonna die with dead people all around him.him or his people must have been praying cos at some point he must hav been feeling sleepy and if he try am,naa heavenly choir for wake am. |
Orikinla I meant |
@original Nawaa ooo, isn't your comment rather harsh and judgmental |
See the irony of life, some people dey discuss oyel company work, another dey initiate sugar mummy work At the end of the day it's all blood sweat and tears, some folks gonna need their thinking caps while others gonna need their stroking caps. To all the nlng folks,Edumare bless your hustle cos if you guys make it there,I can't fit to shout. |
@tech guy We are offering him 50 M.U know say if we don know say naa so the thing go be,we for don give am pass dat money wey the yellow people give am.See I hate em so much I can't even type their name.Watch out cos the drama ain't over, etisalat go laff last with Sakai being the greatest benefactor. |
I am currently working on a concept for etisalat using diddy's 'coming home' as our intro .Saka is on the flag mast of a yellow ship heading towards an etisalatlike coast with tears in his eyes as the wind blows in his face remembering the good old days with etisalat.as he gets to shore,he attempts to give the entire green mass a hug as he goes 'home sweet home' All the while the sultry voice of skylar grey does all the needed storytelling.just finalising details with badboy for the rights to use that song. |
Met her randomly a few years ago around tejuoso, she is black and beautiful and now to hear she is 21 means I was either a chronic cradle snatcher or she be lying about her age. Chick wey I go find for Babcock in 2009 and she was like in year 2 or 3,and she is 21 after 4 years.I be agbaya oooo,so naa pikin I dey pursue but the chase became cold, went back to England, next ting started seeing her in music videos.she looks different in the house though, her look in the oleku video is how I remember her in real life and trust me she is crazy. |
One day you guys will just outgrow all this stuff.1Hyde park and tins. |
Me,I came for the dream.Nigeria can be hard but a dream is always imagination till someone converts it into reality. If Singapore could have enough sense to transform that tiny island into one of the biggest economies in the world, the critical mass of those that were here, those that have returned and the many more yet to come would transform this nation. The only issue is don't come to the table empty handed, kindly come along with some intelligence and let's build the nation of our dreams. Mi o lo anywhere clan, this is it for me till I die or Jesus comes back. |
The Jesus I know didn't send these people message.God can fight for himself and tells us to hold or maintain our peace while he fights for us.Jesus never advocated violence and even rebuked Simon Peter for cutting off the ear of one of those that had come to arrest him.People that really know God know this is a joke and has a political undertone.Let us not dragGod into our politics,he is not our puppet that we can use to intimidate others with contrary views to ours,he is JEHOVAH ,the all sufficient God of war. |
@chancit Make the best of your time while you are still here.Does anyone anywhere know who you are?I know more about this wonderful lady now thanks to the OP even though I spent sometime visiting her hospital when my mum had an accident in1986.Steve Jobs didn't make it to 60 but the world will never forget him, will anyone remember you even if you made it to 150? |
