Family / Re: Did You Have This Kind Of Parent As A Kid? How Did You Survive? by Lacoolmley: 8:16pm On Feb 27, 2018
Some parents are very wicked and toxic to their children and expect them to continue to swallow it for eternity. Control freaks that keep pushing their kids to the wall and when the react, they bring out the Bible and lay curses on their children thinking it would work. God is watching and will definitely repay them.

Please how is a third class graduate expected to sound? If a first class graduate speaks good grammer, the complain will be that its not by how good you speak English but by the value you add to the company. If he can add value but can't speak good English the complain becomes how can a first class graduate not express himself in simple English. In fact, I give up afterall I am not even a first class graduate but I still maintain that they are exceptional people and should be respected for their academic achievement.

oyb:

anyone capable of getting a first in the chaos that is the nigerian public tertiary education should be able to navigate the recruitment process with ease.

step one - go to cms or yaba and buy gre /gmat books. sit down with them for two weeks. your only challenge then is if they give you cbt. cbts are difficult at first because you have to train yourself to take them. in which case download gre /gmat test prep software, install it and practise with it.

once you've done this any test will be a breeze. it is not rocket science

as for interviews, what is google for? its mostly the same format for entry level - tell me about yourself etc. ensure you read up on the company, ensure you have the long speech about why you are a good fit for the company, ensure you have an idea of their current projects etal. and of course, get a good suit.

end of.it is not rocket science.

if you make a first/2.1, you have a straight ticket to the good easy jobs. DO NOT WASTE IT.

if you make 2.2 or 3rd, your journey to the good job will be longer and harder

Thank you very much. Funny how some people think the first class graduate will make A grades in school and come out to struggle with assessment tests that also require academic proficiency and practice to excel. I still maintain that first class graduates (home and abroad) are a unique set of people and should never be belittled because of global issue of unemployment.

PS: No institution of learning (home and abroad) will award a first class degree to an average student. If first class was that easy, many would have gotten it.

I can understand that the OP is trying encourage First class graduates to acquire more skills, etc. However, I would like to disagree with his statement that the number of First Class graduates have now exceeded that of Second Class Uppers. As a First Class graduate, he should know that such statements cannot be made without facts. It is quite unfortunate that many graduates, first class inclusive, can't find jobs these days. Nevertheless, it would be wrong to belittle the achievement of a First Class graduate just because of temporary unemployment. They faced challenges just like others in school and came out tops. If given the chance of employment, there is a strong possibility that their contributions might surpass that of others. First Class graduates are unique people. I wish I was one.

This is typical in Hotel Business in Nigeria. All the employees form a cabal to defraud the owner. Even when a sincere staff comes on board, he becomes corrupt over a short time. I will advise the OP to report those thieves right away. Work for others as you would like others to work for you.

Business / Re: FIRS Seals Four Firms Over Tax Debt Of N630m by Lacoolmley: 7:54am On Jul 18, 2017
The level of corruption in FIRS is to the highest order. When you refuse to negotiate with them according to their fraudulent terms, they come up with unrealistic assessment reports and punish you by sealing off your business premises. Visit any of their offices and see their rubbish attitudes. One needs not mention that the Government does absolutely nothing to create a proper environment for business owners with all the tax remitted to them. This country sef.

You run a business, provide water for yourself, run generator on a daily basis, pay high tarrif for the almost non existent electricity supply, employ security guards, no police protection against touts that disturb your business even though you financially support police operations in your area, pay multiple taxes of same nature (e.g. environmental vs sanitation vs effulent discharge) for state and local govenrment. At the end there is almost nothing left for you as a business owner. This country sef.

Crime / Re: 18-Year-Old Girl Remanded In Prison For Threatening Her Boss Over Unpaid Salary by Lacoolmley: 7:48pm On Jun 28, 2017
So what if the girl has connections underworld and carries out her threat? After something bad happens to the Madam or any member of her family, people will start talking about how wicked the "poor" girl is. The reactions here against the Madam is very irrational. You cannot threaten the life of a President or his family just because you are poor an unemployed and expect the President to take it lightly.... Just like trying to justify kidnapping people because one is poor and needs money. I will advice the girl and her sympathisers to go and beg the woman to drop the matter and sign an undertaking... Looking at it religously, the girl should have presented the matter to God rather than threaten someone bigger than her in everything. N/B we still don't have all the facts so let's not bash the Madam please.....

Crime / Re: 18-Year-Old Girl Remanded In Prison For Threatening Her Boss Over Unpaid Salary by Lacoolmley: 11:29pm On Jun 22, 2017
Its a big surprise how people are sympathising with the girl just because they feel she is poor. We don't have all the facts. Who knows, the girl could be a misguided youth that refused to to to school and has now found herself in this position. I don't think the Madam is saying she doesn't have 6k to give her but only trying to be just in her dealings before she sets the wrong precedence. There is really no justification for the "poor" girl to threaten the Madam and her family over 6k. She could have left it to faith. Anyway, we still don't have all the facts so let's not judge the Madam.
Crime / Re: 18-Year-Old Girl Remanded In Prison For Threatening Her Boss Over Unpaid Salary by Lacoolmley: 11:10am On Jun 19, 2017
There is a possibility that:
The girl did not work for a complete month before traveling and was paid to cover only days worked.
The boss did not permit her travel which was probably why she employed someone else.
The girl could have borrowed money from her boss and the amount has now been deducted.
Anyway, we should always be careful about who we threaten as not everyone takes it lying down.

Career / Re: What Can One Do With A Nagging Boss by Lacoolmley: 7:18am On Jun 23, 2016
In my opinion, I feel your boss is trying to build you to be a better Engineer. Believe me if he was shouting at you out of hate, he would have fired you a long time ago. Many people say all sorts of things when "pleading" for a job but when they get one and face few challenges they start complaining about condition of service, no time for themselves, bla bla bla. When you become an employer, you will appreciate him more.
Career / Re: Agricultural Economics - The Career And Please What Is It About by Lacoolmley: 12:29pm On May 23, 2016
It has to do with the business side or economic aspect of agricultural production. Job opportunities could be in banks where you assess applications in order to grant loans for agricultural projects; NGOs; etc. Giving that she doesn't really know about the course by now, I have a feeling she might not like it in the long run. I suggest she waits a bit longer to get what she really wants. My thoughts though.

Bros, that your job is very lucrative. You can do a lot on your own before attaching yourself to a firm. You can start with preparation of deed of conveyance or tenancy agreements. Be a regular face at NBA functions in Port Harcourt including weddings, birthdays etc. where you can network with others. Join units in your church and give them professional advice for free to gain more popularity. By God's grace, you will be where you want to be in no time.
