Well, the only difference between petitioning me and Mary is that I am on the earth and am functional to you and Mary is'nt. On the interpretation of prayer, this is how the dictionary defines it:

The Bible also does not instruct me to "pray" or "petition" to you, but that doesn't mean that I can't. It does instruct us to pray for one another, we pray to the saints and Mary to pray for us, there is nothing wrong in that. To us there's a relationship between the living and the dead. There's a communion of Christ of Heaven and Earth.
Joseph isn't God's father, last time I checked he took no part in the conception of Christ. There is a prayer to Joseph though.

Apparently he wasn't happy with the way the Catholics treated the Jews and said that they had to be approached with gentleness, this is true, but when they failed to convert through his method he turned on them. Lol.

Why weren't all the books included if these Bishops didn't have the Holy Spirit as their guide? How is it that they were able to determine which book is of God nad not? Wouldn't the Holy Spirit be their guide? How then could the Bishops put together the Bible if they were not filled with the Spirit. How then could evil be filled with the Holy Spirit?

The ONLY reason the Catholic church is viewed in separation from the other churches is because the other churches caused such division. The word Catholic means universal as in one. All Christians are meant to be one. So in essence if your church is of God, established by God, then by all means you are Catholic, you are universal, you are one with the Church and all Christians everywhere.

I do not wish to deal with extra-biblical catholic doctrines one by one but suffice it to say that I do, and my Pastor preaches what is in the bible. If he says anything that is not in the bible, I have the sole right to throw it in the trash can. Do what the bible says, and you are on point. Do what it does not say, you are on your own. I think that is the whole essence of christianity, not arguing over sect. When I see someone say or do something that is not explicitly written in the bible (e.g. praying to someone in heaven other than a member of the Godhead), it makes me cringe.

Ok about the praying issue, how about we define "PRAYER". Prayer is a petition as in ask. So if I were to say I pray thee A_K_O to fetch me some water, I will not be out of line, because I am asking you, petitioning you, praying to you. So when we go to God in Prayer, we petition, we ask, and by his grace we receive.
So to say that is wrong for someone to pray to another is to not know the meaning of the word. So yes I can pray to my mother because I want a new car.
Now the issue there in being that just because I "pray" u A_K_O does not mean that I am seeing you as my divine being. It doese not mean that you are the one I worship as in you are my creator and all the glory and honour belong to you.

I also made additions to my previous posts.  I was reading last night and that thought dawned on me. If Christ's asked us to do as he did, why then do we limit ourselves. If Christ gave us the spirit as the Father gave him, why then should we consider ourselves falling short. The Holy Spirit is the gift given us.

Even Paul shows that there shouldn't be division.

Then please show me where you get the idea of penance and purgatory in that same bible you claim to read. While we are at it please show me anywhere any of the apostles reverenced Mary.

Purgatory: 1Peter 3:18-20
18. For Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the sake of the unrighteous, that he might lead you to God. Put to death in the flesh, he was brought to life in the spirit.
19. In it he also went to preach to the spirits in prison
20. who had once been disobedient while God patiently waited in the days of Noah during the building of the ark, in which a few persons, eight in all, were saved through water.
The word "Purgatory" may not be used, but the "place" or "holding place" or "place of purging or cleansing" has always been there.
It is that place that the souls are purified. Christ descended to hell to preach to them so that they too may be free. They had to get purified or purged hence purgatory.
It is not a doctrine that came to be with the Catholics, it existed before the New Testament and exists in the New Testament.

Penance or Penitential acts: Mathew 3:7-9

7 When he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8 Produce good fruit as evidence of your repentance
9 And do not presume to say to yourselves, "We have Abraham as our father." For I tell you, God can raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Ok one more time. The Books of the Bible were put together to show the manifestation of God through Jesus Christ. It is not about Mary. Just because it is not in the Books of the Bible doesn't mean it did not happen, just like some works of Jesus were not in the Books of the Bible, but it doesn't mean that he did not perform more than what is in the Bible, John says so (John 21: 25)
Now there are other books that were written and it wasn't quite clear whether these books were written by the apostles so they remained as the apocrypha.

Confession to the priest as a means of attaining forgiveness? Where did Timothy come confessing his sins to Paul to obtain forgiveness?
Christ said in the new testament that He only had power to forgive sins . . . who gave man that power that your priests now usurp so brazenly?

Why must we go round about on this issue. I interpret it one way, you interpret it another. You however, really think that you are not flawed in your interpretations, so why should I bother?
Well I will put it to you this way. Christ said as my Father sent me so I send you, so that which Christ was able to do we are able to do. That is the point of walking in his footsteps and being Christ-like. Ofcourse it is through the Father that anything can be done, that is why Christ breathed on them and asked them to receive the spirit, there is the ordination. I don't see why you would believe that we can cast out demons and lay hands on the sick. Even Peter raised the dead in Acts 9: 36-43

36. Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translated means Dorcas). She was completely occupied with good deeds and almsgiving
37. Now during those days she fell sick and died, so after washing her, they laid her out in a room upstairs

I thought only Christ had the power to do these things. Why then the disciples? Could it be that he charged them to do as he did on this earth?

Ok let me tell you, that we don't believe that without Mary we cannot get to heaven. However, we do strongly believe in that there is power in prayer in numbers. So the more we have praying, the more powerful it is. We just decided to add the Mother of our saviour as a prayer warrior for us. We do this because we believe from history and from books that were written about her life that she is in heaven with her son. Surely you don't believe that Christ would abandon his mother. I suggest you read it too then you will see that Cornelius' conversion was not mentioned. If Peter was referring to only Cornelius then he would have said Cornelius. Infact let's look at it as a whole.

So you see this passage wasn't about Cornelius' conversion but about that of the Gentiles, Cornelius wasn't mentioned. Please stop looking for excuses to make a claim that isn't credible.
Now as I was saying, about verse 7, Peter clearly said God made his choice among you that through my mouth (which is Peter's) the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe. Clearly GOD MADE HIS CHOICE AMONG THE APOSTLES.

Paul was chosen as the apostle to the gentiles . . . did that make him co-leader of the church? You people just confuse issues anyhow.

Note that Christ appointed only 12 apostles, but on the day of Pentecost alone the number of new converts grew to over 3000. Exactly my point. If everyone was to read the Bible by themselves and come up with their own interpretations, why would there need to be teachers? Could it be that the Bible as we know it was not put together until after? If so then how were the people who lived before the Bible was put together supposed to read it and interpret for themselves, why were there teachers?
This is how you get the preists that you have today. Noticed that the apostles had to lay hands on them and not just any Tom, Dick, and Harry could. Also notice that it had to be those filled with the spirit and wisdom, not just any random person. They had to make a selection just as is done today in the Catholic (universal) Church. This is the SAME church.

Well then explain it. There are other passages. Christ had his beloved disciple (John) but it is evident that he chose Peter as the leader of the church. Trust me there are many passages where Peter was seen as the leader of the apostles.

Good I got the passage, now show me where in there it says that the "evil" catholic Bishops would put it together.
Or better yet, how do we know what is scripture? How did the evil catholic bishops know that "2 Timothy" was telling the truth and it wasn't one of the fakes? Because Paul worte it? How did they make the distinction that it was indeed Paul who worte it when there were many other books that probably had the claim that Paul wrote them? How did they happen to know that the books you have in the New Testament was truly inspired by God?

lol I would really like some people to read the Acts of the Apostles and come back and tell me what happened in chapter 6:1-7
Why it is that Peter was the LEADER among the apostles?
Why it is that Paul had to send for Peter and plead a case before Peter as why the gentiles did not need to be circumsised if every man could clearly get it done for temsleves? Why is it that Peter had to make the decree? I mean really Why?

But he made sure that not just every Tom, Dick, and Emeka can lay hands on his sheep, so he instituted the apostolic succession by make Peter (rock) the first LEADER of the Church.

For those of you who say that it's just a personal relationship with God, clearly missed the part about CUMMUNNAL LIFE in Acts 2:42-47. These people lived to serve God and one another. It wasn't I'm going to get my own salvation and have my own personal relationship with God (which is needed) but they knew that they had to commune with one another (which is the coming together at the church). So if it wasn't meant to be organised as you claim why did they do it?

It will take more than prayers, but also our actions.
Also keep in mind that there is a way to pray. We shoud ask for the right things not jsut ask God to change the situations. Rather we should ask God to use us to change the situation. We should ask God to use us as His instruments.
We can't ask God to change this situation and then sit there waiting for manna to fall from heaven.

I don't see why you had to condemn him. It is not Christ like. You shoudn't have judged him. Instead you should have been open to understanding him. You should definitely know as you are a Catholic. Many condmen us because they do not understand us or do not wish to understand us or choose to deny the truth. You owe him an apology. Even if you do not agree with him that doesn't mean you should bluntly end it and pass judgment on him.

We are to respect others despite their beliefs. We are to show love to them because this is the only way to bring them to the truth. Remember Christ dined with the sinners and not the holy ones. Be like Christ.

I too will be considered a cheapsake, but you can't really tell by looking at me.

My honey tells me I'm very cheap, he even goes so far as to force me to get expensive things, as long as he's paying, I don't turn them down, but I'm beginning to because I can see myself with him for life and I want to make sure that we are very comfortable when the time comes.

There's nothing wrong with being a cheapsake, you get the same things as others but pay less for it. I call it discipline. Keep it up.

the corruption in other countries don't seem to have a direct effect on the citizens unlike nigeria
plus they get caught especially by the nosey journalists and are dealt with sharp sharp
but the journalists in nigeria cannot even expose any corrupt police man talk less of the corrupt politicians

I beg to differ. There are as much corrupt policemen in the US as there is in Nigeria. The journalists also get paid off too. If you don't have enough to pay they will leak your secret. Yes there are the notable ones, but what happens in Nigeria, happens here, it just doesn't make the news. Simply put, they know how to hide their yansh and we don't.

Police kill people here too o. Even those boot camps that they have to help the young ones kill the young ones.

I will say the infrastructure as Bawomolo said, things are still bad in America, but it is not to the extent as Nigeria.
There's corruption in America and all other bad things. But it may not occur as frquently as in Nigeria or it may not be reported as in Nigeria.
Nigeria is also under a telescope at the moment because our economy is rising, so anything that happens will be brought to light, while America is more tested, and not under a telescope.

Strange how a lot of folk who are advicing the poster to use his money to make it in Nigeria, are out of Nigeria.

Advicing from across the pond, so to speak. It's easy to say, but in principle, very difficult to do. This young man has made up his mind he wants to leave Nigeria, and I believe he will get out, one way or the other, if he's determined enough.

There's no problem coming abroad, just as long as those who want to realise that it won't take their problems away.

Most people abroad can't afford to come back home. I will use myself and my family as an example.
I am a university student and I owe the US GOVERNMENT in student loans up to $22,000 for my bachelor's and it will cost me approximately $30,000 to do my graduate studies, so by the time I am done I owe the US GOVERNMENT $52,000 plus interest. Most people spend the rest of their lives paying it off. I can't just abandon the loan and leave. Why? the US GOVERNMENT is no joke and they will hunt me down.

Now ofcourse I want to survive as I go to school so I have bills to pay and yes credit cards to pay because ALL of America is run on credit and not cash. If I don't pay the collectors come after me and if I don't pay my bills, no more freely flowing, LOL water, light, shelter. I become homeless. Trust me it's very easy to become homeless in America, even celebrities get there (Mike Tyson and MC Hammer).

Now my mother is a nurse and she works up to 3 jobs to make sure that her children are well taken care of. She has mortgage to pay( u can't buy a reasonable house, YOU CAN'T BUY ANY house without a mortgage). The house to fit a family range from $150,000 - $290,000 (these are the cheap ones). The interest rates are so high that in the first 10 years what someone pays is the interest on the house and have barely touched the principal, so instead of the $150,000 - $290,000 that the house costs the person ends up paying $400,000 - $600,000 on a house.

Then she has to feed and clothe her fast growing children 4 minus me 3. To buy food to feed my teenage brother alone costs her $100 per month and then add my 2 sisters and you have $300 per month for food. Then let's talk of clothes, for all 3 children it costs my mum approximately $7,000 per year.
Then there's education. Even though school up to secondary is free they still have to buy materials for their classrooms and trust me they don't come cheap. When you're done buying boards and books and arts and crafts materials for projects in schools your wallet will have downsized a lot. We recycle everything in my house. Things I used in school are what they will be using.

Then there's her car that she uses to run to work and run errands and take the children everywhere. She has to pay her car note (I told you EVERYTHING is on credit) and she has to pay for the upkeep of her car, God forbid one day it breaks down, then we're all screwed. You don't have a car, u can't get to work, you get sacked, say goodbye to all the luxuries of life. Yeah you don't have a car so why not catch a taxi? Well because taxis run on meters and their rates are really high and you can't afford to catch one that extra $30.00 is what u may need to make payment for your needs.

She makes $4,000 a month from all her jobs. How can she afford to pay for these things? Well through her credit card and she has to pay that also every month. It's not like she can afford to not have a credit card, if she doesn't her kids won't eat or find cloth to wear.
Poor woman refuses to buy herself lunch at work. She gets 5 hours of sleep every night and deprives herself of any luxury because she can't afford it and her children come first.

It's a vicious cycle and it consumes you, tell me a woman working like that without vacation, isn't she moving herself closer to death.

She's my motivation. Let me finish school and start my business, she's never working again and will be chilling working on her farm (because she likes it  ) in Naija (where she dreams of)
She hasn't seen her parents and siblings and cousins in 10 plus years. She can't even afford to come home.
So if you think it's easy and your problems will go away come to America.
Remember those who are in America may not be able to leave. In America LIFE holds you captive.

This is not to talk of the stress you deal with when you face the police, your boss, or an ignorant American or a racist idiot.
