I know it has been said and beaten like a dead horse, 5 yrs from now (and the next general elections) will we be deluding ourselves on whether GEJ has performed? I am sure there will be some who will say "Give him another 4 yrs, after-all OBJ did not achieve a lot in 8 yrs" and there are some who will simply say, "If it tool Nigeria to get to where we are in 50 yrs, why should we expect a miracle from GEJ" and I am certain the AIR WILL NOT BE SO FRESH 4 years from now.

There is a saying in my hometown which goes like so, "When a farmer goes to the field without sharpening his hoe, his wine-tapper always accompanies him" For all his oratory resplendence, GEJ has not yet defined why his plans will work and what he has done to ensure sustainability in his strategy. These are usually the signs that the looming GEJ ascendancy has no plans but to continue the current decadence in governnance. but hey! who am I to complain when 140+ million Nigerians won't do anything about their condition cry

Noted. barring atypical campaign propaganda and the usual mouth-running of most African Politicians, is there anyway we can have a peek on exactly HOW/WHY these vaunted plans will work huh It is not enough to make statements bordering on the obvious, you must prove beyond doubt that these plans actually have a chance of working, There are many worthwhile projects that have been engaged by past governments (as per electoral promises) only for each to fail ignobly due to mis-management (the truth is corrupt b.astar.ds won't let it work) How do you intend to prepare suitable (Sustainable) environment for these plans to work as they really should? i.e if you are voted into power (I guess you won't do anything if you are not voted into power)

I hear rumors some people are planning protests starting in Abuja already?? Can someone confirmhuh
They are true grin The Lagos Protest Group Ran into some hitches
1: They could not assemble at the agreed protest points because the man in charge of Logistics got stuck in Traffic on 3rd Mainland Bridge and was robbed of the much needed cash
2: The Bus conveying the Protesters was impounded by LASTMA for causing undue attention in slow-moving traffic.
3: When they finally arrived at the agreed protest point, the Police were already waiting for them and one volley of gun-fire into the sky sent all the protesters scampering for safety
4: Unfortunately the planned protest had a time limit 9:00AM to 12:00PM but seeing that it took them so long to even get to the protest point, they re-scheduled for another undisclosed time and date as the Ring-Leader was panel-beaten by MOPOLS grin

Our problem in dis country is docility. We want change but will never want to change our own way of thought and deeds(our perception of life, sacrifice  and death). Everybody wants to be part of the good things(happy ever after) of life but someone if not some people will have to pay d price for change. How can we reach heaven without death? Rapture? We cannot be thinking d same way our forefathers thought, do things d same way they did and expect to live a different life from what they lived. Impossible! the general global mentality is changing and we will only be left behind if ours doesn't change with time.

Revolution is possible only when we feel that we have been pushed to d wall. . .only then shall we muster d liver to fight back cos if we don't fight, we die; if we fight, we either live or die.
You have just said it right there! for all our rants and complaints, we truly do not value our rights enough to die for them. FELA screamed this same observation and we all laughed (the guy sabi yab, yab dem) but he was speaking the stark-nakid truth.

If we don't fight now (which ever method that suits the our peculiar situation) while we have the strength, we will die of total exhaustion running away from the problem . why else would we be the Happiest People on Earth

dont u think that the ripple effects of the increment will step inflation levels up ? especially in areas where resident doctors abound ? Its not rocket science!
Let me guess, you will pay a clerk with Diploma , who works at the ministry of lands pushing paper and pencils N18,000 then choose to pay a Doctor who probably has a P.hd the same amount to treat you for a death threatening illness grin I sometimes wonder whether you actually warm your brain every morning before you come to nairaland or you just jump-start it with a dead-battery.

Politics › Re: Africa South Of The Sahara: What Are You Waiting For by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 11:46am On Feb 24, 2011
I think we are mixing perspectives here. The reason such uprising occur is because of a central dictatorial leadership hierarchy not because Nigeria is advanced politically or that things are now stable in Nigeria. These countries operate a leadership style that centralized core political (thus economic) power to a single or few individuals. that is why when the Corrupt Leader bails, things return to normal and the business of democracy can begin in earnest. (Cut the Snake's head and the Body dies)

For Nigeria it is simply impossible for such uprisings to occur for the following reasons

Chronic Bad Leadership and Governance cannot be traced to one root source simply because in Nigeria, Bad Governance, Corruption, Bad Leadership is a sophisticated INSTITUTION.

An Institution is purposely meant to streamline the best practices of any social, economic, political and religious eco-system into a balanced framework where if each individual working within the guidance of the institution can contribute meaningfully to the general well-being of the eco-system. That is why you have Higher Institutions, Banking Institutions etc. If they were family businesses (like most African Nations are) Uprisings are bound to occur and mostly likely will succeed in toppling the ruling structure simply because you have less people (usually 1 key person) to deal with

in Nigeria, every Politician is a Ghadaffi in his own right (try to make a u-turn in front of a senator's house and see where you end up. i dare you) and because they have undermined the very institution within which they operate, they can prolong their existence thus slowly strangle the benefits of democracy or suppress justice because the weak institutions allow them to. Do you know the funny part of all this. IT IS PERFECTLY LEGAL

Try getting an International Travel Passport and notice how many holes exists within the system that allow you to by-pass Instituted Practices to get your Passport in 4 hours (after bribes to officials working within the institution).

Revolutions currently razing the Arab world is not because of corrupt institutions, but because of corrupt leadership. There will never be a revolution in Nigeria simply because we will have to now deal with ourselves as corrupt individuals working within a corrupt institution, sustaining a corrupt leadership. how will you mass a protest against potentially 1 million bad leaders who are actually the bolt and nuts in the wheel that turns this once great nation. HOW?

That is why many Nigerians and Internationals are usually perplexed at the way things work in Nigeria. it is simply a Corrupt Institution so doign away with a bad leader like ABACHA won't solve the problem, (Several Abachas will spring up in several places)

It is by far the best Manifesto yet. wink

I am still concerned about the way Politicians in Nigeria approach their manifestos. they are usually punctuated with Active Adjectives that describe what they will do. they however do not detail how they intend to Achieve this in their Agenda. they simply make nice-sounding promises that touch that overly emotional wire in the brains of the masses. grin

These doctors cant even interprete the CONMESS properly . . .am afraid BRF has been tolerating these ediots for too long, they earn 170,000 now and they still yap nonsense . . .in Nigeria of today ? shocked
I am still trying to figure out what you have just posted. is it that Lagos State considers N170,000 for keeping the health of its citizens too high or that Private Hospitals charge well above N170,000 for a single Child-birth.

I would discount BAT's comments completely because if he is not on his usual wee-wee smoking high, he is cross-eyed on all the money due to Alpha-Beta from Lagos State Plc.

Have you asked yourself why there is such a brain-drain in the industry, Doctors get better paid elsewhere other than Nigeria

How many of you want to sit in London and watch on AlJazeera how your parents, brothers, sisters, family are being killed in the face of revolution? How many of you ready to lay down your books and jobs in the west to come home and lead in the revolution? How many? None.
Of course no one wants to fight for what they don't feel is theirs to own in the first place - Do you own a piece of democracy in Nigeria, would you fight for it, sacrifice your life for your children to own a piece of democracy? I doubt it grin

I actually agree with the comments. Nigeria has had its rocky years, but we're fairly stable these days, compared to many of these countries in the Maghreb. Those countries, in fact a lot of African countries, have a lot to learn from Nigeria. We are multi-ethnic and heterogenous in structure, yet we manage to stay afloat, and manage relatively bloodless transitions from government to government.

Men like Ghadaffi are nothing but raving lunatics.

@texazzpete i was involved in a similar exercise in the last Voters Registration and I too have a Permanent Voters Registration Card, Which is to be replaced by this New one, however to assume that everyone is clueless about what is going on, shows some level of bias that has eaten deep into your subconscious it now appears as Truth. except your esteemed self cannot see questionable holes in the entire process, then I am afraid come 2015 and after all the questionable events of 2011 Elections have been trashed out and reveal for the deceitful sham it is? what will you now say huh . it is from the comfort of our computers that we make comments that affect thousands of minds who are in a position to cause positive change, to discount/sacrifice begging questions for the sake of a GEJ Presidency is to Hire a mentally deranged person as a housemaid for your kids simply because you are too busy/concerned about getting to work on time and earning a salary cry
Let me ask you one question though, when the cards are printed, how will they be distributed in good time (or will JEGA seek another extension and unbudgeted logistics costs for this) Will the registrants come in the same order they did when they registered or will someone start shouting names from a mega-phone to give them cards, what if they do not show up that day? will they start sorting cards at the point of collection, THINK!
