if he says Christian North and Muslim South, an obvious mistake (a simple one any of our seating senators make routinely). What youare implying on this thread is that his entire post is inaccurate and at best exaggerated. If he makes a simple faux paus as to "mis-locate" the major religions and regions, how does that remove from the credulity of his post  huh granted that we are not all brain-dead, we can at least make up for it by stop being vegetables even vegetables are not as docile as we lot.

@Poster  grin

Putting our collective grunts into aggressive action has always been a long-known need. Nigerians are not lost on the fact that all strata of leadership from Corporate-Political-Traditional-Religious-Family in this country is rotten to the core (save for a few die-hard honest ones). We have known this since the times after Independence yet we have grown very comfortable with intellectual rants and discourse around the matter of corruption. My 4month old baby has a cough from the fumes of generators that growl all day and all night long. yet intellectuals feel that all problems can be solved at some round-table conference. a meeting of between the intelligent and the dullards. Africa's largest nation also boasts of the largest group of the world's most docile (happiest) citizenry

A Protest March means NOTHING to the cruel and evil leadership of this country, neither will our silent voices on nairaland or rancid cries in churches make any difference. The Leadership of this nation is like a demon that has found an empty home in the minds of Nigerians. a home without a father who can protect his family, a home in confusion and poverty (of the mind) a home without an ounce of fight in its tenants.

We can rabble-rouse all we want and it will not make a difference to the fortunes of this Great fallen nation. Like most BLACK African nations whose leaders have enslaved the minds of its people, Nigerians are no different, filled with rage, disappointment, poverty and ill-health. all these tribulations are not enough to cause a revolution and the evil leadership of this country knows that. We are all a bunch of docile, helpless citizens. to quote Fela, "One yeye ball wey one yeye breeze dey blow from one yeye corner"

The answer lies in a quote from the Bible

Matthew 12 'From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and violent men take it by force.'

Ever notice that when the evil leadership of this country wants anything, it is by force and deception. We are bringing up the best minds in the youths of this nation to come up against a government that obviously cares little for the survival of the youths. (evidenced in the massive failures in a once pivotal exam)

As long as we keep talking they will keep doing BY FORCE. i dare say our docility will be the death of us

Nigerians!!! haba I find it hard to know when we are honest or just being truthful.

It is a known FACT that majority of Nigerian Institutions are corrupt since 1901, We are all aware that majority of politicians, leaders both religious, political and corporate are bleeding corruption from their arssses. so why does it seem strange that someone outside Nigeria will notice and say it like it is and we get all mad and patriotic (monkey no fine but im mama like am sentimentality)

I don't know who to get angry with, whether to get angry with our corrupt leaders or our brain-washed gay-arssed brain-dead citizens  angry

You should just ignore those who come here on their high horses to say that we should stop defending Nigeria's case because what was said in the article is all true. The worst part is, yes, many of us who are dumbfounded by this article agree that the biased author got some facts right. However, the real problem is how he went about stating those facts (very hatefully) and also the many inaccuracies and exaggerations he made.
How can you be inaccurate about Oil prices going up while our Foreign Exchange Reserves were going down in the same period  shocked
How can you exaggerate billions of dollars we get in aid monies yearly and many children die from malaria (Nigeria has the worst case of malaria deaths for children under 5 globally)\
We field over-aged players and defend our actions to the death, haba

How can you over-exaggerate exaggerated corruption,  HOW!!

Don't wanna call u ignorant @igbonla. I am of the opinion that the use of babalawo in almost all the Yoruba films should be limited.

Some people don't just like criticism.
I am Yoruba, but i see some reason to your argument, however valid it seems, you must understand that it is simply a personal opinion. you can gather a few others like yourself and form some consensus but it will still remain an opinion and not a widely held view; definitely not the norm or standard for Yoruba movies. What you have expressed is not criticism but a personal aversion for Yoruba movies because they promote (in your words) juju and not Christian values. Whichever way you see it, making movies is a creative process (regardless the level of creativity) and it is an expression of ideas, a podium for breathing life to stories. What would the movies of Christ be without the "pagan" Romans or the prostituute and taxpayers and thieves  huh Yet it is a Christian movie that also embraces the existence of other cultures and their practices without limits to storytelling. Yoruba movies have one up against igbo movies for one thing; most plots at least have a clearly discernible starting and ending thread unlike their Igbo movies that have multiple plots and sub-plots that have no tie whatsoever except the big-butted, thick-lapped, cleavage-exposing actresses and bare-chested oyibo-ghana-boy to make up for movie time spread across 4 DVD!!!  shocked shocked

Like some poster pointed out, before Christianity, there were Traditionalists and they preferred the gods and oracles for any dealings in that society, just because Christianity came to Africa does not mean you should throw-away your native clothes and confuse your dressing, names and beliefs like some south-south people i know.  wink

Don't know the difference btw a C&S Church and a Babalawo; think they work hand-in-hand. They both give something (soap, powder, sponge etc) in return for deliverance.

Since the Yoruba's tend to be more traditional rather than follow Jesus's teaching, then let them still be and leave Jesus completely out of their movies!
It is like saying Front-line Christian movies should leave out Sinners and Islam and other religions from their movies and talk about Christ alone, it cannot happen. Religion needs to flourish and for that to happen some other religion will be used as negative leverage.

And truly there is little man can do that God cannot do for himself grin

Due to our lack of interest in DSTV programming in recent times, my wife has resorted to watching Yoruba movies claiming they are far better than Nollywood Ibo movies. Truly i enjoyed some aspects of Yoruba movies especially the efforts at proverbs and wise sayings. I also noticed that Babalawos are usually the first port of call when one faces any serious or seriousness problem (by the way, they have the most ugly of female actors in yoruba movies)

I doubt you should be angry over the fact that majority of Nigerians especially the Southern parts have very strong traditionalist roots tending towards spiritism and juju culture. Historical origins bear testament to the fact that before Christianity in Nigeria, there were strong African juju-culture. I am not saying that Christianity is without benefits. I just want you to understand that Yoruba movies in such a sense are keeping with reality. The last one I watched this afternoon has a spiritually-caged man seek deliverance from a Christian Cherubim and Seraphim church grin and was delivered, is that not balance? The movies do not ridicule Christianity in anyway, they rather serve to strengthen it. after-all Christianity is not a baby anymore and if she cannot stand on her own two feet, then we have a serious problem

Christianity Etc › Re: The Name Of Jesus Christ Carries Power, Authority And Distinction by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 12:50pm On May 14, 2010
not to sound cheeky, I have been meaning to ask the exact dynamics associated with names and the "power" they possess.
It is common in Bible times and in recent times to use the name Jesus in warding off Evil spirits and in binding and loosing stuff.

Can you explain in any form of detail how that works, because i watched last Sunday at a popular Church in the Yaba environs wink (for those who saw it) how strong men of God tried unsuccessfully to cast out a demon from a demon-possessed Mad-man (previously thought sane).

There were commanding delivery of Jesus and Blood rained on this fellow and he sat there numbed by the happenings around him. I was a few feet away and even i could feel the electrically charged air of spiritual ballistics causing collateral damage to bystanders. but this man remained adamant or un-affected. He was later physically bound and carried off to another room for a Combined Prayer Session (also known as Prayer Bombing)

1: Where is the cosmic connection between the name and the manifestation of power
2: Is the level of spiritual maturity a factor or can a baby simply shout Jesus and cause a demon-possessed man to stumble
3: Can i use the name of Satan for example to cause harm in the same way using the name of Christ causes comfort to those who call it.

Even if you do not have the answers at least you can propose a theory to this concept.

Thanks

•MD summoned to Abuja

THE Federal Government has ordered a full scale investigation into the alleged N5billion contract scam rocking the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

Bickering and in-fighting among the management members of the commission was said to have led to the probe.

The Nigerian Compass learnt that the investigation was sequel to a petition written to the Presidency by one of the Executive Directors in charge of projects, Inibong Etteh.

Etteh, an architect, in the petition, accused the NDDC Managing Director, Mr. Chibuzor Ugwuoha, of unilaterally awarding about 51 various projects to cronies and associates without the authorisation of the approving bodies and against the commission’s standing financial regulations.

Ugwuoha had earlier alleged that the Executive Director, Projects, was engaging Consultants for the Commission’s contracts without due approval.

In the petition dated March 31, 2010 and addressed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Compass, Etteh alleged that the MD of the NDDC breached the provision of authorisation manual of the commission and therefore should be made to account for it.

The development was also identified as the source of a cold war between Ugwuoha and Etteh, for which the SGF had summoned them several times.

It was reliably gathered that the Presidency decided to order a probe into the allegation as a result of the confusion that has enveloped the commission over the incessant in-fighting among the management members bordering on alleged unilateral decisions and breach of due process by Ugwuoha.

Reports say the NDDC boss has already been summoned to Abuja by the SGF.

Etteh, in his petition tagged: “Non Compliance With Authority Manual of NDDC by the Managing Director”, states that the MD has violated Article 560(f)(iv) of the Authorization Manual of the NDDC, stressing that he issued letters of award and backdated same to March 17, 2010.

In the petition to the SGF, Etteh says: “Sir, you will recall that in our last meeting with you in your office, you directed us to go and work harmoniously in line with the operational manual of the Commission until it is amended by the committee set up to do so.

“We came back and started working harmoniously until 26th and 27th March, 2010, when the Managing Director, after giving his approval for the award of contracts under N250 million threshold, decided to issue and sign all award letters by himself contrary to Article 560(f)(iv) of the authorization manual.

“Sir, by this, the MD has clearly violated article of the manual, thereby causing tension in the commission. If this scenario is encouraged, it means that the MD/CEO can generate project, approve and award without the knowledge of the EDP’s office.”

Article (f) (iv)of the authorization manual states: “Executive Director Project (EPD) now issues letters of awards and attaches the endorsed copy of BOQ/BEME to the contractor.”

Equally attached to Etteh’s petition were an internal memo of the Commission requesting the approval of the MD to issue certificate of compliance for small and medium sized projects for Rivers State and the memo initiated by the Head of the Directorate of Utilities, Infrastructural Development and Waterways, dated March 12, 2010 which was approved by the MD on March 24, 2010.

When contacted for comments on the petition, the Special Assistant to the Managing Director on Media Matters, Abraham Ogbodo, dismissed the petition. He described it as frivolous.

Ogbodo said: “What are they saying? If the MD/CEO does not have the power to award contracts who else will have the power.

“There is a threshold set by the Bureau of Public Procurement and the Central Executive Council and I don’t think the MD has done anything wrong.”

He added that the whole thing might be political after all because “they don’t need to address the press over this”.

He stressed that both the MD and the Executive Director had been working together harmoniously, wondering where the petition emanated from.

In a related development, the Niger-Delta Stakeholders Forum, NDSF, has called for full investigation of the allegations contained in the petition, pointing out that they are too significant to be swept under the carpet.

While addressing reporters on the issue in Abuja yesterday, the spokesman of the group, Dr Emmanuel Ukpanam, who claimed his group is aware of the petition, said the role of the NDDC in delivering on the much needed sustainable development of the region was being threatened by the avoidable internal wrangling between the MD and Etteh.

The NDSF spokesman said: “We are aware that various stakeholders have intervened to resolve the crisis between them, since the board was inaugurated in August last year. Some of the stakeholders include NASS members from the region, as well as committees of both chambers in the National Assembly, office of the SGF and even security agencies.”

Islam › Re: Why Are They Converting To Islam:tom Cruise Ice Cube, Snoop, Riberybusta Rhymes by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 4:42pm On May 08, 2010
Man is a clear example of a traveling vagabond when it comes to religion. It is unfortunately true (to say the least) that Man is a Beast for Gods. He is constantly seeking meaning, purpose and guidance from a higher power, an all-knowing,all-powerful, all-forgiving and all-everything cosmic entity to replace the void of uncertainty in the chaotic world he has found himself.

When a Man converts to any religion, one must look at this event as a very important and fundamental decision regarding the very pillars of faith he once believed (or barely believed in) and lived by all his life. (until the moment of TRUTH). It is not easy to be born into a religion and later discover TRUTH and convert. it is nearly as significant as been born (again) itself.

I always find it refreshing to hear of religious conversions, it can only mean that the individual has evolved from one level of socio-psychological consciousness to another in search of the TRUTH. while the TRUTH itself is no farther from us than our nose is from our face, it takes a good majority of the world's teeming billions to find it and ultimately they will discover the TRUTH through multiple conversions across different religions (agreeable and contradictory) before they come to the simple knowledge that:

Religion is a global phenomenon with a singular origin and that origin is not necessarily God or some divine cosmic entity (God is a product of religion and not the other way round) but rather the collective sub-conscious consensus that man has over centuries built to provide Balanced Reasoning and Intelligence sufficient to guarantee his continual survival in a world he is gradually coming to understand.  Ultimately the fortunate (discerning) few will dispense of mythological and nonsensical references in religious texts and assimilate only important TRUTHS. only then can an individual truly be at one with the cosmos.
