If the Fuel Subsidies Removal Protesters in Abuja really want to make an impact that will totally catalyze the overdue revolution this nation needs - all they need do is carry along a 10liter jerry-can of petrol and march to ASO rock - Pour it on themselves and light-up each other. 10,000 people all at the same time. what a sight to behold. then Lagos should follow-suit, then Imo State, then Ogun and so forth , while northerners watch in stupefying laughter grin grin grin grin

Boko-Haram may be d answer to Nigeria's facade called Unity. Who knows if this is a Western Agenda that the abokis are playing into unwittingly. If they can just up the ante and start surgically assassination corrupt public officials and key religious leaders on both sides.

Islam is evidently hypocritical (just as Christianity is) - Islam means Peace - but adherents have been bearing swords of death since Mohammed (PBUH) founded the Religion. Boko-Haram is by no means a peaceful venture, they are out to kill in the name of Allah and kill they will. Foreign Intervention may have its ulterior agenda - it is welcomed if it will give any closure for mothers and babies murdered in the black of night with machetes and some burned to death with their children still on their backs. if anyone is not convinced that Islam is a Religion of Death and Violence, then he is drunk with Religion. - Peace in the Middle-East wink

OLAADEGBU:
Touch Not Mine Anointed

"And |David| said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD" (1 Samuel 24:6)

These words have been widely misappropriated in later times as a warning to any who would presume to question or rebuke an erring pastor or other Christian leader.

Christians can, and should, learn and grow spiritually from godly teachers of the Word and faithful pastors of the flock, but all--leaders as well as learners--must continually be subject to correction from God's Word, "neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock" (1 Peter 5:3). HMM
I am not by any measure discounting the value of your post by cutting out a lot - but the Bible encourages us to grow in knowledge and understanding and with it; Wisdom. While I do not discount the value of Teachers of the word. I think 99% of Christian Growth is should be derived from the teachings of the Holy Spirit as a Guide not Man

I John 2:27 "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, you shall abide in him."
1 Corinthians 2:10-12 "But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God."
2 Corinthians 3:5-6 "not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."
Ephesians 1:17-18 "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe"
John 14:26 "But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. "
John 16:13 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come."
Politics › Re: Ghana Cuts Fuel Subsidies, Fuel Rises To N184 Per Litre by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 10:24am On Jan 03, 2012
efisher:
I agree with you that the consequences of the subsidy removal are tough. It has indeed brought pains to the masses. I have always likened it to swallowing a bitter pill. That cannot be denied. However, in order to provide some relief, I suggest the following:

1. Reducing cost of governance as many have suggested, Increase taxes on income of the rich and reduce taxes / increase wages for the lower income earners.

2. Roll out a robust government assisted transport service asap pending when rail services go full throttle.

3. Educate the populace on ways by which they can reduce energy consumption and hence reduce spending on fuels.

4. Accelerate infrastructural development esp in the areas of transport (road, rail, etc) and power.

On a larger scale, the govt can stimulate development of the agric sector, etc. Private investors can begin to think of alternatives like biodiesel, solar, wind etc. This has the potential of not only reducing dependence on petroleum derivatives but also creating jobs.
There is nothing new under the economic sun (pardon the awkward pun). what you have just suggested does not even begin to scratch the surface of positive economic initiatives that the GEJ-led Administration can derive from the removal of petroleum subsidies. all I have are 2 questions I wish you can honestly answer for me.
1: What evidence exists that the GEJ-led Administration has done its research thoroughly and instituted sustainable plans and infrastructure protected by law to ensure that the so-called positive measures are implemented thus creating the much needed positive results you speak of. (If they exists was this done after the fact)
2: Historical fact has shown that several $ billion-dollar initiatives by previous administrations have been undermined by instituted corruption - little is done to recover lost billions $ and it seems the Government of the day ignores history's lessons to continue on the same path to failure. strangely the GEJ-led Administration have all been members of government in past administrations. Why has the GEJ-led Administration not learned from past failures.

We definitely need the subsidies removed but does the GEJ-led Administration possess the Political will to follow-through. Evidently it has already shown its hand. we shall all come here 4 years after (God-willing) and complain of the mess that is "Fuel-Subsidy-Removal" till then
Politics › Re: Stop Moaning... Petrol Is 326.21 Naira a litre in the UK! by lagerwhenindoubt(m): 12:47am On Jan 03, 2012
U can always count on Nigeria's limitless capabilities to produce in-bred citizens with a high aptitude for skilled buffonery especially when they try to force like comparisons when none exists. The only legacy we have succeeded in creating is a self-sustaining eco-system where corruption and injustice thrive in the midst of enormous potential for good. I guess years on some over-paid aristocrat will step-up to declare this measure a colossal failure just like Austerity measures of the Shagari era. Or SAP of IBB lore or PTF of Abacha regime. OBJ has had his share of reform initiatives that have failed simply because there was never any plan on sustainability in the first place. OBJ promised new refineries with the hike in pump prices and Okonjo assured that the policy was in d right direction. De-regulate the downstream sector and FG can concentrate on delivering energy. $16 billion dollars after, we are no better for it.

Unfortunately many die when reforms fail. Sadly neither GEJ Nor Okonjo or Lamido will ever face such a loss for their imminent failure. We all know what will happen to subsidies money don't we? We do not even have documented plans on how to utilize these monies to d benefit of Nigerians. Smh Fu¤*#@n returrds :-<

@maclatunji - Obviously some enlightned muslim does not agree (violently too)

lagerwhenindoubt:
The prevalence of Violence in Islam has nothing to do with Ethnicity - it has a lot to do with grinding poverty and the apparent inability of the reigning government to uplift the impoverishing conditions of the masses. Northerners may form the larger percentage of Nigeria's population, they also form the poorest. they are prone to get angry and violent when they are so darned hungry - f'course Politicians will play this to their advantage, just like Hitler played the Germans into thinking that the Jews were responsible for their economic woes
His candid response ?

ayusman16:
This is so dumb. Poverty indeed. Are they the only one facing poverty. The most popular terrorist (Osama) of all time was born into affluence (i think it is something they read in that book or the teachings from their scholars).

The northerners are just lazy and silly.
So in a nutshell - who can say what causes this sort of violent behavior

Enough of these congratulations already grin - there lies a daunting task ahead and Nigerians like Gbawe are so far behind trying to catch up with solutions

1: How do we raise the masses Political Awareness - They do not have internet and the leaders at the grassroots are illiterate bigots and corrupt bas@##$5rds
2: How do we educate and empower the masses with the knowledge of their Civic Responsibilities and Rights under the Constitution
3: How do we ensure that we create a sustainable environment for these themes to continue to flourish until every Nigerian is worth the value of Nigeria

Nigerians do not care simple because they do not know better, are to impoverished, intellectually, financially, economically and politically. the only wealth Nigerians have in abundance is Religion.

Unfortunately majority of Nigerians have been breathing soo much FRESH FOUL AIR they are too high to think straight.

1: Boko-Haram is not a new phenomenon in Nigeria/Africa and other parts of the world where internal social/religious/ethnic conflict exists
2: Boko-Haram have elevated their cause from initially attacking the Police to Nigerian Political targets to US (Western) Buildings and Staff to Institutions to Churches and supporters of Government initiatives they deem aggressive.
3: It has been claimed that they have strong ties to Al-Queda and they receive funding from them
4: Thus-far they have transformed their agenda to include a Holy Jihad against Non-believers in Nigeria

Is it me or is this Boko-Haram constantly evolving as each day goes by,how do they manage to keep up their attacks, who is funding them (it seems GEJ is unwilling to release big names and make big arrests)why are Northern Governors quiet on the issue. I mean the Silence is deafening. I confuse oooh

If you care to sit sober and critically analyze Christendom - You will find the greatest danger is not Satan, but ignorant Christians themselves who have blissfully ignored the value of reason and pitted their lives on the backs of "False Faith" preached by False Prophets and cemented by False doctrine over decades of unrelenting, clever indoctrination of masses of Christendom.

Hosea 4:6 "my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. "Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children."
What is Knowledge. Knowledge is data processed from experience and turned into useful information to be used wisely. what does the book of Proverbs say . Knowledge and Understanding with Wisdom - all we have today are masses of facebook-Christians Faith is like an over-the-counter drug that you buy without thinking

As always in support of efisher; Fuel Subsidy removal is not about stopping Corruption! NO and a bigger NO! Even in the USA and with all their sophistication in anti-crime policies and actions; FBI, CIA, DEA, etc, etc, etc, etc, Maddof still spinned Americans of 50Billion Dollars. With all the talk about Immigration and effectiveness and efficiency of DOS and DEA, Mexican still carry drugs in high quantity in to the US.

Fuel subsidy is not about suffering Nigerians but I am talking of stimulating jobs; creating more jobs for the "ever articulate: Nigerian youths like you and me. If we remove Fuel Subsidy; there will be competition, more refineries will be built by the likes of Otedola, Dangote, Adenuga, Olabode,  cheesy  cheesy  cheesy ! We will all go and work for them. Even the IOCs will build and we go and work! We needs jobs.

This is not about electricity or transportation; it is about JOB CREATION!

If we don't, trust the Nigerian Cabal  grin  grin  grin ! They will soon flow in Ghana, build refineries, employ Ghanians, smuggle the fuel back into Nigeria, sell at 80Naira after collecting their Susbsidy allowee! Then send it back to Ghana, sell at 190Naira, to much money for the bigger bois and no job for the common man.

Nigerians, wise up now!

Again, this is the time to do like Ghana, Remove the Fuel Subsidy to stimulate the downstream sector so that jobs can be created!

The argument is no longer to be debated but the aftermath considered direly - Since subsidies will be diverted into areas needing critical economic development. I wonder if the government has even put in the required research and plan in place before engaging removal - Will it be like Austerity Measures of Buhari or Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) of the IBB era, or Mamser or Better-Life or Vision 2010  tongue or the much promised OBJ Energy initiative when he foisted N65 per liter on Nigerians. I am yet to see Nigeria meet her OPEC quota since the past 8 yrs of thumb-in-the-air economic strategy that you only hear in summary and never in detail.

Our concern is not the lesser evil of Petroleum Importation Subsidies - cleverly disguised by @beaf as Petroleum Consumption Subsidies (it is the end-user who pays for the subsidies ultimately not the benefactors) but on the Truth and Honesty the PDP government have dirged on our ears continuosly (ahead of the 2015 elections)  grin

We should shift our concerns to ensuring that the GEJ-led Government is not quick to waste benefits of subsidies removal on the usual "Nigerian" factor that has been the norm since Shagari era till date.

Bombing Lagos is too easy. there is absolutely zero security. especially in crowded areas with potentially huge Boko victims.

All Boko-Haram need to do is board a danfo with their deadly load in a basket disguised as anything really and go to any of these locations

1: Maryland Rounabout
2: Tinubu Square (CBN is just round the corner)
3: Race-Course
4: Sangrouse Market
5: Orile/Iganmu Bustop
6: Kilo/Aguda Bustop

You can take your pick. it is funny that there is less security in areas with huge human traffic huh what you see are Policemen extorting money from Bus-drivers and Okada riders.
