Phoenix6278: Fellow medical students
I'♏ terribly stressed as I write this piece,8 full hours of sleep these days is like a fairy tale. The work load is just too much. I have lab practicals close to 4 times a week, each lab lasting abt 4-5 hours! and u have to stand during practicals ! I never knew it was going to be this tough. Last week we had a BCH test; 300 questions for 2 hours and we will be having anatomy CA on wednesday (200 questions). The annoying part is the dissection classes, Formaline forces tears from my eyes, and its stench can be unbearable at times. At times, I ask the question 'what have I gotten myself into?'
I really needed somewhere to rant and what better place than a forum of medical students who have gone through what I'♏ going through.
I'♏ not broken yet and I don't think I will ever will, beneath the stress I still find joy exploring the human body, we love our cadavar so much that we even gave him a name, there's this joy that comes over you when you see 'the long head of biceps originating from the supraglenoid cavity of scapula' a feeling of fulfilment comes over you when u discover why the kenyans always win long distance races (increase in the rbc production due to them staying in high/mountainous areas), and u marvel at the many reactions going on in the human body (methylation, iodination, hydrolysis and a whole lot of others).
I guess I'll get used to the whole stress and I strongly believe that my passion will override whatever the lecturers throw at me cos I really can't imagine myself studying anything else. I guess I'♏ in love with this course!
Pardon my long post, How's everyone doing! Its been a while
boss, i admire your daring courage, the Good Lored will continue to guard, guide and protect all of us, and also fill us with His wisdom, knowledge and understanding.....

Thats medical school for u tho....

Op i think u are suffering from a psychiatric disorder. There definitely is no snake in you. Your condition could be hypochondriasis.

See a psychiatrist please. Dont go to any church. This is how many go to churches until their situation becomes worse.
please dont mind him my sister, he can live his life the way he wishes....

You may be right about the hypochondriasis stuff, but i still hold that he goes for a ct scan, so that we can rule out any tumours or stuff like that....

The 2nd law states that the product of the mass and acceleration is a constant i.e F=ma

the third law states that action and reaction are equal and opposite....

coogar: you can easily tell apart the people that skipped physics classes in high school to chase grass-cutters in the bush.
hmmm, now that was harsh, most of us know the law of inertia nah, and that special formula

m1v1+m2v2=v(m1+m2)

so as u can see, energy is conserved, there will only be a common velocity when the two masses collide....

omicron: Technically, they arent sterile, rather they are infertile. This is because they actually produce germ cells (oocytes), but these get exhausted even before puberty is reached. By that time, their ovaries are streak and they have no more oocytes, and oocytes are not produced after birth. So i reason that if it's possible to harvest their oocytes at any stage before they are destroyed, and then preserve it, then they can actually have own children. Moreover, Turner's with mosaics may even do better than complete XO's since the chromosomal anomaly isnt total in that case.
hmmm, i used to believe they were sterile ooo, thanx for the correction

and yes, mosaics have a better prognosis than full-time turners

Nikkie29: NOU is national open uni
Do u mean I can't get a good job witout going 4 masters?
Is comm health equivalent to comm medicine?
of course u can get a good job, but it will be better if u do your MPH, its just an advice

and yes, community health is the same as community medicine, only spellings differentiate the two terms....

I jxt got an admission to study d course in NOU, but my fwends advice me not 2 go 4 it bcs d course is not well recognised in nigeria and I av been disturbed since then.....
Where can I work wit Bsc Comm health witout masters?
does NOU mean national open university??

But all the same, community medicne is also good ooo, just that you wont be given the prestige of a doctor....

People study this course in good foreign unis like havard, john hopkins, etc, so dont let anyone decieve you about it ooo.....

Like i said, you should try and get an MPH if u really need a good job....

centje: i actually never knew of such type of cardiomyopathy, but i researched and got it's a stress induced cardiomyopathy.
in fact, that question got my brains boiling!!!!

Now back to turner's, apart from finger clubbing and webbed neck, they also have short stature, widely-spaced ni.pp:les, may be mentally retarded,, and, unfortunately, they are sterile, they can never have children.....

Hope i am correct sir!!!!
Health › Re: 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Quit Smoking! by Lagusta(m): 7:56pm On Mar 26, 2013
Let me also share this simple test with you......

Get a clean white handkerchief, ask a smoker to blow in a puff, but not inhaling deeply, tell him to blow the smoke out on the hankie, you'll see brown and red spots on the handkerchief, these are the tars and resins that cause cancer.......

Now get another handkerchief, tell the smoker to puff in again, this time inhaling deeply, ask him to blow onto the handkerchief, you won't see any spots on it, where have the spots gone to now.........
Health › Re: 10 Reasons Why You Shouldn't Quit Smoking! by Lagusta(m): 7:47pm On Mar 26, 2013
There are alot of toxins in a stick of cigarette, but i wanna share just three of these poisons

1) NICOTINE: this is the substance that makes people get addicted to cigarettes, it elevates blood pressure by narrowing peripheral vessels, especially those of the hands and feet, thats why if u touch the hand of a smoker after a stick, it feels cold....

When these vessels are narrowed, the heart needs extra force to pump blood to the tissues, this increases blood pressure and may also lead to heart failure

2) AMMONIA: this chemical damages the so-called cilia, which look like hairs that filter dust, pollen and even bacteria we breathe, when these cilia are burned off, nothing is left to filter anything, so.........

3) TARS AND RESINS: now these are the carcinogens, they cause cancer.... Shikenah

so, do u still want to smokehuhhuh?
Health › Re: Wat causes black head by Lagusta(m): 7:19pm On Mar 26, 2013
Boss, i'll advise u go to a hospital, do a CT scan and MRI, so that we can see whats inside your body.
If possible, do an upper GI endoscopy, but these tests will cost an arm and a leg ooo......

If u dont have much money, just do either an MRI or an upper GI endoscopy, cos doing only blood tests may not detect anything....
