Ebedi:Ebedi, I do not know either of you parties concerned. But going by what the Lady has posted, it seems like you are not quite being fair here. The issue came up due to unmotorable roadway that you did not warn them about. They accommodated and completed the first batch. The onus is now on you to arrange alternative transportation and pick up the product from them, if you are dissatisfied with the extra cost that needs to be borne. I have a strong feeling that they will not object to refunding the transport aspect of the deal. This Lady responded in a very professional way, and also gave a clear explanation which your Brother seems to agree with. You should not use this forum as a bully pulpit with an attempt to embarrass obvious nice people. Just my little honest 2 cents. |

Pennywise:I am not sure about what you mean. In previous posts, I had stated that I was not going to jump in with just any client who asks for my services. I have a serious problem with the 'Big Man' mentality that is embraced by most people with wealth in Nigeria. Architects and Designers don't seem to get much respect here. and most people think providing services is tantamount to being an employee of the client. Mutual respect is a prerequisite for me in doing business with anyone. I have never kissed a** and by the grace of G-D will never have to kiss a**. I have paid my dues and designed for many Multi-millionaires in the U.S. without losing my dignity. It will be rather pathetic to come to Nigeria to be a boot-licker of some La Riche Neuveau who thinks he's a god. I honestly believe that anyone who lives in a home designed by 'Larez' has been elevated into a special league of people. My clientele list bears me witness. Thanks for the warning though. brauneyes:Thank you for your compliments, and I look forward to hearing from you. However, I must warn you about the issue of using wood. I am not sure that I will attempt to frame houses in wood in Nigeria. We are currently in the hermathan (Not sure of spelling, help me out someone) season, and I can see the effects that it's having on wood products. Doors are shrinking and wood is warping. This leads me to an issue that isn't addressed much. This issue is weathering. I recently visited a typical Nigerian lumber yard in Lagos, and was not too happy with what I found. There are no standards in place and wood sizing varies significantly within the same stock. The tradesmen were oblivious of common issues such as weather sealing and insect repellents. I have discovered, that it is the carpenter's duty to buy wood and get it in the form or shape that it is intended for. This is very different from the United States where lumber yards have a grading system. we use #2 fir or better for stud stocks, and Yellow pine for floor joists of roof trusses. We also use P.T (pressure treated) lumber wherever wood has contact with masonry. Weathering is a very important factor in using wood for construction. Unless, I can find a wood factory that is cognizant of the issues pertaining to the use of wood, I may have to avoid some of the common uses that are my paradigm. I believe that we can use aluminum metal studs for interior non-load bearing walls with gypsum boards, but I am still surveying the cost factors and the skills of the work force. To use wood, one will have to consider the fact that we have termites that get airborne and can infiltrate wood at any height of a structure. It will take a significant amount of effort to maintain wood with pesticides and sealants to avoid weathering as well. This all is not to say that it is impossible to use structural wood. Wood logs are still possible if one keeps in mind what the fall-backs are and creative efforts are put forward to mitigate them. We just need to know that the technology is readily available to maintain them. Most homes in the United States for example have thermostats that keep the homes at a certain temperature within their heating and cooling systems. many also have humidifiers that maintain the moisture of the homes. The Hamathan season in Nigeria makes humidifiers very important in the culture, but yet they are lacking. All these issues not only affects the health of the people, but also affects wood significantly. The question here is the cost that it will take to mitigate these issues. My comments therefore to the questions that you raise are: Stone is no problem if available to use. But wood will have to be studied because there are issues. There may be better logical implementations rather than wood. But if wood, you must, then issues will have to be mitigated that may be costly. 1 Like 1 Share |

We really need to begin to smell the roses and understand that Governor Fashola is just doing his job. The difference between him and a lot of our so-called leaders is that he has a plan and wants to be worthy of the job he took. He boosted the Police in Lagos, and provided them with Armoured Carriers as well, which are displayed at strategic points around Lagos. This is clearly an icon to remind people of the rule of Law. Fashola has tackled Transportation and took many area boys off the streets providing them with uniforms and jobs working for the new transportation system rather than being unruly area boys. On Infrastructure, Fashola has addressed even the most forgotten areas like Mushin, Ajegunle and others, to bring their roads up to par and allow free flow of traffic. The biggest impediments to traffic flow are the illegal markets that sometimes boldly block roads that were meant for traffic to flow through. We all ask for these corrections to the chaotic ways that people have cultivated, and yet we are afraid of change when we finally find someone capable of change. Common sense says that it takes time to create a paradigm shift. If people do not adjust to following rules, how can a Metroline railways system work in Lagos? Will the same people not block the rail lines and make it a hazardous system to operate? In order to bring Sanity to Lagos, good regulations will have to be made and enforced. People will have to begin to understand that rules must be followed. There are many who come to Lagos to exploit it without having any thoughts of putting back where they take from. We constantly hear people saying things like 'Lagos na no man's Land, and anything goes. Well, I do not have a Village and Lagos is my hometown. Just as the people come to Lagos to make money and go back home to build up their villages, I am very interested in the welfare of the State. I think our current Governor is doing the right thing to bring sanity back to Lagos and I commend him for this. We are very welcoming in Lagos, and we create an atmosphere where everyone feels the sense of home in Lagos. All that we are asking is for people to put a little back and cooperate in making the environment in Lagos better for everyone. If any of you guys play any kind of Society building games such as 'Age of Empires' and others will see that the steps being taken are logical for building a strong society. Just less than a week ago, Fashola took on NEPA (PHCN) and revealed the contract that was signed when Lagos State created the Egbin power plant. The agreement clearly stated that a certain percentage of power produced should be to serve the Lagos market. PHCN has flagrantly violated that contract and instead was sending most of the Power up-north while depriving Lagos and wasting most of it in transmission. It takes a dilligent Governor to have such awareness to review contracts and enforce them. Within a week of him raising these issues, we have seen power flowing in areas that are used to no power for many days at a time. Fashola is tackling various issues at the same time, and we should give him a chance for his vision to come through. Fashola has proved himself to be a motivated, educated and deliberate Governor. Noone can pull wool over his eyes, and those that are close to him will tell you the story of their disillusioning. They will tell you that there is no chopping going on, and are not too happy with the governor for not giving them ghost contracts. If anyone were to get a contract, they will have to perform to expectation. I tell you this as a fact. If we become supportive of Governor Fashola and allow him to rpove his leadership and organizational skills, I am certain that this is a guy that we shall all be proud of. He has also raised the 'par' amongst other State Governors on performance. As you can see, many others are now scrambling to emulate Fashola. if this trend continues, Nigeria will soon become a country that we can all be proud of. Please let us not give the same treatment that was metted out to Ribadu for a job well done. We should be supportive and encouraging to people like these few heroes who actually care about the welfare of Nigeria, rather than lining their pockets. Just as Fashola is showing true leadership in governing Lagos, we should play our parts as well. We should pay our taxes which will provide the much needed revenues that will allow for the proper development of Lagos State. We should also begin to get used to following the rule of law required of responsible citizenry. |

Pennywise:It may seem so but not really. Most of my Clients have been regular Corporate American Executives. IBM, HP, Turner Broadcasting etc. Somehow though, (Mostly Through Oscar Ayala mentioned above) African American Athletes and Entertainers embraced my work and I started getting known as the go to Guy for homes. I have also assisted in Master planning smaller In-town homes with narrow fronts in Old neighbourhoods in Atlanta and Charlotte. The only thing that I require from clients is that they are polite and courteous. Designing homes for them brings the designer into an intimate world of the client, which has to be interpreted into drawings. |

Pennywise:Pennywise, many people have asked questions in this thread and promptly got answers. Dude was not interested in anything else but throwing weak attempts at bringing a Brotha down. I can easily find each of the homes displayed here on google satellite and provide links to them. I know exactly where they are. I think I may have to take down the picture that shows my friend and I, because she may not want it to be an issue. However, she is a Senior VP of one of the 3 largest Banks in the USA, and I designed a couple of homes for her including the one that she lives in. I cannot bring her name out here in public though.  Sorry. Thanks for the Props though, and I hope we can get some subdivisions filled with my designs going in Nigeria. It might be a good idea to also have a home show before people move in to showcase what is happening today in home livestyles internationally. (A parade of homes featuring Nigeria's best in design, interiors and construction). |

Jamie Dukes, Floyd Dixon and Gerald Riggs were also my clients back then. Can't remember the name of their subdivision on Lower Roswell, but my friend, Alphonso Carrekers lives there as well. The Atlanta Journal carried my design on their front page during the Oscar saga, and the Tribune has also featured on their front page, my design/build at Country lakes. After L.A . and Pebbles his wife then moved in, they called me and I met with them to design the carriage home that you speak of. This Carriage home had 2 bedrooms upstairs, and i designed a studio for the bottom. At that time, I didn't know who Babyface was, and assumed that he was L.A.'s nephew. One day while heading to meet with them, I saw Babyface close by on the way there riding his Bicycle. I asked him to turn around and let them know that I had arrived. The humble Brotha rode his bike back there for me and took me inside. It was only later on that the Builder told me that was Babyface. I tell you this story because fools like you don't realize that most of these guys are actually very nice people. If you want to know more about the history of that house, Bobby Brown and Witney Huston were the first to do any work in the Studio, and I was supposed to design Bobby's house, but he had to reinvest within a stipulated time, and ended up buying The Hustler or Penthouse magazine guy's Mansion in Buckhead. I designed many other homes at Country Club of the South, which is where the home you talked about is at a corner, with a 3 car Garage facing the Carriage house with the studio. By the way, go to KB Designs or whatever company that I supposedly stole designs from, point them to my website and tell them to sue me, you ignorant nitwit. You wanted to feel important, and thought you knew something, but you have been weighed, measured and found wanting. If you know any of these people, show them my picture which is in my profile. By the way, I don't work with every client that comes my way, and I have rejected designing for some so-called Superstars because they were not down to earth and I don't kiss a**. South Africa seems more progressive in finding solutions to address mass housing in tropical Africa. I am willing to take a look at possibilities. God Bless America, a truly great Nation. May God's mercies shower Nigeria, and redeem our souls from selfishness, and those clueless leaders who shackle our progress by denying us our wealth to use towards our progress. May God also render wisdom upon our people, especially the poor, who are denied the education that it takes to understand that they are being robbed of their progress. This is a time for reflection Nigeria. this is a time to rejuvenate our minds and purpose to take our streets back from area boys and deny our Politicians from using them and the Police to suppress us. We need to seize our country back and steer it towards progress. |

There is really something odd about your pricing as I compare it to pricing in the USA. The computer desk that you have for 280k, will sell for between $400-$700 max. The dining room cabinet above it might run around $1200-$1350. Now the Desk with the top cabinet might sell for $1500, while you list it as the cheapest of the products. Are you sure that you have your pricing right? You seem very overpriced, and relatively improperly priced. |
