The foolish Man is just trying to play GOD.

Is he telling us that if a popular and acceptable candidate who is older than 60years old comes in the 2011 presidential election then the candidate will lose because of his age??

He is sure of being alive for the next general election?

He should be told to give his unsolicited advice to the MARINES.

Politics / Re: Imagine Fuel At N75 Per Litre by Larufa(m): 6:42pm On May 28, 2007
The Wicked President Has Done His Worst

After inflicting pains on Nigerians for eight years, President Olusegun Obasanjo is set to bow out. Many Nigerians will heave a sigh of relief that the leader that hated them so much is going, even as the president's parting gifts are like poisoned chalice. Just a few days before his exit from Aso Rock, he increased taxes by 100 per cent and about 24 hours ago, he increased the pump price of petroleum products for the 12th time in eight years.

Soon after he took over power in 1999, he increased the price of petrol from N20 to N22 in 2000. The price of petrol was further jacked up to N26 in 2002 and moved to N40 in 2003. It was later slashed to N34 later that year. It was further increased to N39.90 and increased again to N41.50 that year. In 2004, it was increased to N48.50 while in 2005, it was increased again to N52.50. That year, it was again increased to N65. Now premium motor spirit or petrol, as it is commonly called, is sold for N75 per litre, up from the N65 per litre it was hitherto sold.

Every year, the price increases affected other petroleum products as their prices also witnessed upward review.

Instead of fixing ailing oil refineries, he thinks the best way to solve the problem is through unbridled importation of petroleum products and hiking the pump prices of the products locally to meet the huge cost of importation.

The latest increase, which took Nigerians unawares yesterday, has been condemned in many quarters and described as a wicked action taken by a man who had less than 72 hours to the end of his tenure. The action of the president goes to confirm the hatred and contempt he has for the people he inflicted poverty on with so much pleasure in the past eight years.

What did Obasanjo want to achieve by increasing the pump prices of petroleum products at this time? Did he merely delay it because of the April general elections? Before the polls, there were speculations that the Federal Government was about to increase the pump price of petroleum products. Perhaps the idea was shelved because it was not politically expedient at the time as it would have boomeranged for the People's Democratic Party at the polls. And now that Obasanjo feels he has nothing to lose, he has done his worst.

When a president acts this way, do we blame the common people who describe him as the most wicked ruler Nigeria has ever had? As evil as Abacha was, his regime never inflicted so much pains on the common people through its policies like the Obasanjo administration did.

History will no doubt judge Obasanjo harshly as a leader who pauperised the people. It was during his regime that Nigeria became the 20th poorest country in the world, going by the UNDP's current yearly ratings. Also, in terms of human development index, according to the UNDP statistics, Nigeria is ranked 159 among the 177 countries surveyed even as life expectancy in Nigeria is so short that the country is ranked 166 in the world, with an average life expectancy of 43.4.

The assessment of President Obasanjo's eight-year tenure Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN), best captures the way Nigerians generally perceive his tenure. According to the human rights lawyer, what Nigerians have witnessed under the Obasanjo administration are: "Eight years of self-centred disposition, eight-years of wayo (deception), eight years of creating a few rich people, eight years of anti-masses programmes, eight years of deliberate junketing all over the world, eight years of make-believe, eight years of dictatorship, eight years of lack of coherent policies, eight years of so much wealth coming to the hands of government out of which Nigerians received aggravated poverty and economic pain."

Considering all these, Nigerians will no doubt collectively say good riddance to bad governance when Obasanjo hands over the baton of leadership to Umar Musa Yar'Adua tomorrow. He has done his worst. May Nigerians never have his type of man as their leader again.

Politics / Re: Shocking Parting Gift:petrol Hits N75 Per Litre by Larufa(m): 6:09pm On May 28, 2007
WHY, WHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHY.

The illegal hike in the prices of fuel and VAT (from 5% to 10%).

This is a pointer that the out-going President Obasanjo does not mean well for even the incoming government. This will further compound the problems of the in-coming government.

Why would a government that has less than 24 hours to go be increasing the prices of petroleum products and VAT? Why would a government be adding more crises to an incoming government that already has more than enough crises ahead of it? It is unfortunate. They have no explanation for it and will not accept.

It is sheer wickedness. It is madness. It is an attempt to create chaos and probably to truncate the hand-over because they know Nigerians could resist and there will be protests. It is extremely insensitive. Nigerians will resist this but whatever happens, Obasanjo must go.

Why all the ethnic and tribal politics and calculations?

I have seen people from the South West that never liked OBJ even though he was the president for 8 years.

Let the best man be given the job.

Okay, Afam will agree on this. Let the best man get the job.
OBJ is from my state and will continue to say he is not worthy to be the President of this Great Country. Let call spade a spade and not an agric. tool, OBJ's 8years is a misrepresentation of what an average YORUBA MAN trully stands for: JUSTICE FOR ALL.

Technology Market / New Information: Nigeria's Communications Satellite by Larufa(m): 6:07pm On May 27, 2007
THE National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA) recently had a geostationary orbiting communications satellite code-named NIGCOMSAT-1 successfully launched in China. Subject to its proper functioning, the satellite, which faces Africa, would provide reliable and increased communications capacity for relaying simultaneously thousands of radio, telegraph, telephone and television signals among earth stations spread over a third of the earth's surface. To ensure global coverage, the agency "hopes to launch by 2010 two more communications satellites one facing America and one facing Asia."

The agency's spokespersons have dubbed the launch the dawn of a technological revolution that has lifted from Africa the tag of the dark and unwired continent. That is rather effusive. NIGCOMSAT-1 is not a jointly owned or shared communications satellite. Outside Nigeria, NIGCOMSAT-1 will have to compete to offer its services to other African countries and areas under its focus with existing satellite networks linking those places with the rest of the world. The launch of the single satellite may therefore not make much difference than what is already in place. Consequently NSRDA's estimated cost savings of about $1 billion annually on bandwidth and trunking services and the projected revenue derivable from the African market are overly optimistic.

As for Nigeria, the satellite is expected to vastly improve telecommunications, rural telephony, broadcasting, availability of internet services and real time monitoring services as well as facilitate various forms of e-learning and e-business at cheap cost among a whole host of other benefits all with attendant job opportunities. Well, with the agency assured of the Nigerian market which probably accounts for about a quarter of the projected African market, will the satellite services still come cheap as envisaged?

Despite the hoopla and official celebration over Nigeria owning the satellite, NIGCOMSAT-1 was actually procured under the modified hire-purchase terms of "borrow, operate, pay and own" in the end. A Chinese company loaned other Chinese firms the full amount required to design, build, launch and keep the satellite in its synchronous orbit for its scheduled lifetime of 15 years. The satellite is thus effectively a Chinese export commodity that has Nigeria as captive market. The satellite will not be Nigeria's until the loan and unstated accruing interest are fully paid.

There are other problems. For example, the production arrangement makes any Nigeria-specific encryptions in the satellite known to the Chinese, which is not good from the point of view of national security. Therefore, government will be well advised to avoid putting everything in one Chinese satellite basket by not cutting off links completely with out present sources of satellite services.

It is reassuring that the above concerns appear not to be totally lost on NSRDA because the agency does not consider the present arrangement to be satisfactory. We therefore urge NSRDA to press ahead with its eight-year plan to not only produce adequate local "aerospace manpower" but also design and fabricate satellites in Nigeria. The agency should additionally actively develop the capability for launching satellites and exploring outer space in the near future.

We note that the agency's bold plans for the future are predicated on revenue to be generated from its commercial activities. That would help eliminate possible paralysing effects of changing government policies. Nonetheless, government should continuously encourage the agency and where necessary offer any required assistance to enable the agency to achieve its set goals.

In this connection, it is desirable for relevant specialised institutions and selected universities to be given appropriate funding to engage actively in space research to support the space agency in its activities.

There is no need for any conspiracy theory, in three days time OBJ will cease to be President and by so doing will not have any immunity.

Any person who thinks OBJ killed Ige should approach the police or better still charge OBJ to court with your evidence. If they can not do that they should simply remain silent and stop passing a verdict against the President in the court of public opinion (newspaper).

Yes there is a thing like freedom of speech but not on such sensitive issue.

Whoever kills will also have death as a sentinel at the door of his life no matter how long he or she lives.

To all the followers of the Ige murder case, this ‘drug baron’ story from the out going President is a diversion because the son of Ige, Muyiwa saw the assassin with the gun on the day of killing and again during one of the Court hearings

Politics / Re: Obj's Administration Should Be Held Responsible For The Tribulation In Oyo State by Larufa(m): 6:34pm On May 25, 2007
General Obasanjo did not create the Adedibu phenomenon, but under his watch in the last eight years, the likes of Adedibu and their agents were given every form of encouragement. The first major drama had occurred in Anambra in 2003 and 2004 when thugs working for a self-styled Godfather, the Eastern equivalent of Adedibu sacked the state and destroyed public property. Nothing came out of it, nobody was tried or punished, because the thugs and their sponsor enjoyed Presidential protection and encouragement. Even when the matter is in court as is currently the case in Oyo state, PDP thugs, old and young, do not feel compelled to respect the courts. They do not need to, because even the Federal Government routinely disobeys the courts of law.

The police have not been able to arrest Adedibu or his agents because their hands are tied too. Yesterday, heinous crime was committed in Oyo state; but no one may be tried for it. As General Obasanjo leaves office in four days, he will be leaving behind a country where impunity has become a preferred style, where thuggery, cheating and the abuse of politics are in vogue. In the last elections, those who snatched ballot papers and rigged elections openly, did so knowing quite well, that this is in conformity with the spirit of the times. In Oyo state, we are beginning to see just how dangerous such a legacy could be. Who knows what the PDP thugs will do next? Don't be surprised if they smoke Ladoja out of Government House before Tuesday.

While to some it is just a waste of time, can you imagine a marketing graduate post to a secondary school to teach Mathmatics.

As for me it a mixture of both, though i did not get the much desired working/field experience or met any lady of my choice but I had my share of the fun travelling all over the former Ondo sate (now Ondo and Ekiti State) and met people with very very difference views about how the country is suppose to be run and human behavaiour.

My suggestion is that the scheme should be made optional but must be completed once you accept to be part and enter the orientation camp.

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka has described as blasphemous President Olusegun Obasanjo’s statement that Bola Ige was killed by a drug baron. Addressing journalists this morning in Victoria Island, Lagos, Soyinka also called on civil society leaders to agree on a date to protest the last fraudulent national elections. He said he was deeply offended by Obasanjo’s statement that Ige did not know his right from his left when he was the minister of power.

“For him to accuse Ige of not knowing his right from his left is a lie. He should be ashamed of himself. I stand here as a witness on the day to day activities of Bola Ige when he was Minister of Power and Steel,”, he state.

The Nobel Laureate argued that for Obasanjo to try to erase the memory of Ige from the people’s mind is uncalled for, adding that it was Obasanjo that sabotaged Ige’s reform for the power sector.

He said when Obasanjo chose Ige as Minister of Power and Steel, Ige came to him and asked him what to do, adding that he urged Ige to accept the job so that he could reform the power industry.
