Na The forces of Demand and Supply at work.
For all the price increases are as a result of broker's manipulation, never based on company's performance/ result.
The Govt. should allow the prices to fall to their real values.
By trying to prevent the fall, the Govt is being elitist in her thinking.

BusinessNigeria Banks Computer Networks by Larufa(op): 2:46pm On May 07, 2008
What is happening within the Banking Industry Computer Network?
First it was FirstBank Network that was down, then UnionBank followed (this one last for 2weeks), making withdrawal difficult. Now it is SKYE Bank that is having same problem. Imagine a local Cheque paid into an account is yet to be cleared after a week. Long queue in the banking hall even the ATM machine is not helping.

Is because of lack of Qualified ManPower or their over-reliance on foreign software/personnel?
SportsWhy The Super Eagles Failed To Fly by Larufa(op): 3:37pm On Jan 29, 2008
To someone with a little technical and analytical knowlegde of football, the failure of the Nigeria team at the ongoing Africa Nations Cup will not come as a surprise. Right from the release of the player list to the choice of Camp --Malaga, all the wobbling and fobbling is certain. The weather of the Malaga is very different from that of Senkode (Ghana).
The max and min temperatures of Malaga are 19oC and 7oC while that of Sekonde are 30oC and 27oC. Why camp is a cold environment when you are going to play all your matches in a hot environment?

(Remember our world qualifier match against Angola player in Kano).

This is the main reasons why all our players get tired easily, less mobile and take alot of water during the matches so far played.

PoliticsIbori And Igbinedion To Buy Freedom From Efcc? by Larufa(op): 5:33pm On Jun 14, 2007
Former governors James Ibori and Lucky Igbinedion of Delta and Edo states respectively were at the Abuja head office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the second visit since last week.

According to Elendureports.com sources, the two governors have been given conditions by the EFCC to refund money in cash and assets worth about N60 million. But we could not get details of how much each of the governors is to refund. Sources at EFCC told this reporter that Commission gave assurances that the governors would be allowed to go home as free men if they agree to refund the said amount.

The two governors were said to have been told categorically that failure to accept the EFCC condition would mean outright detention and prosecution. Top officers of EFCC presented some documents containing the amount they looted from their states treasuries and how the acts were committed. The source further said that the governors who were quite sober while they were at EFCC are most likely to accept the conditions as they have amassed wealth far more than what they are being asked to give back to the state.

Elendureports.com gathered that James Ibori was advised by a friend to watch his spending on the elections given that he was soon to leave office. According to this friend, Ibori boasted that his expenditure on the election was nothing compared to his networth and said: “At least I will be with the new government for at least two months. That’s enough time for me to recoup my investments.”

Our EFCC sources also said that asking the governors to pay money for freedom means that the government may have decided not to go ahead with the expected clamp down of the former governors who actually contributed to the success of President Musa Yar’Adua during the 2007 elections. James Ibori was among the former governor who accompanied Peter Odili, former governor of River state to pay solidarity visit to the President few days after he was announced as the winner of the presidential election. The governors had asked the then president-elect not to forget those who contributed to his victory when he assumes office as the president of the country.

Ibori and Igbinedion are among the governors who the EFCC said have looted the treasury of their states and threatened to deal with them when they handover office as they would have lost the immunity granted them by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Others include Boni Haruna of Adamawa, Orji Kalu of Abia, Sani Yerima of Zamfara, Jolly Nyame of Taraba, Chimaroke Nnamani of Enugu.

debosky:
I risk being called a tribalist by responding to this thread, but I will do so regardless.

In response to the question, I would frame my answer in terms of major Federal Projects in the SW geo-political zone in the 99-07 period

1. the eventual (although belated) partnership with Lagos State govt to solve the ocean surge menace once and for all with proper storm breakers and shoreline protection being done

2. Establishment of 2 power plants in the zone - Papalanto 335MW (Ogun State) Omotosho 335MW (Ondo state) with expansions planned

3. Establishment and take off of the Olokola Free Trade Zone and the OK LNG Project in Ondo state

4. dualisation and expansion of some highways (limited)

5. New Airport terminal in Lagos under Public-private partnership

6. Increased cocoa production from 140,000 to ~600,000 tonnes mostly (but not all) from the SW

7. Influencing siting of Ibeshe Cement Plant (Ogun state) by Dangote Industries

those are a few of the 'achievements' I can come up with at present
Please mention the highways that were dualized or expanded by OBJ in Southwest. Aslo the contract for rebuilding of the once burnt Lagos Airport terminal was already sealed and signed by Abacha Govt.
Dangote decided to locate his new cement plant to Ibeshe becos that is the best place for his investment after considering all economic factors involved in any industry location. You can not add that to OBJ achievement.
PoliticsSupreme Court Sacks Andy Uba, Grants Obi Tenure Extension by Larufa(op): 4:51pm On Jun 14, 2007
In a landmark judgement this afternoon, the Supreme Court ruled that former governor Peter Obi of Anambra State should go back to the Government House as governor of the state till March 17, 2010. The court also ordered that the incumbent Governor, Cheif Andy Uba, should vacate office as he ceases to be governor as from today. In the lead judgement, Justice Katsina Alu said INEC erred in law by conducting election in Anambra State when Peter Obi has not served his four-year term.

The court ruled that the four year tenure of Obi commenced from the day he was sworn in and will terminate on 17 March 2010.

All the six justices of the apex agreed with the lead judgement. They all agreed that a governor should only vacate office four years from the day of assuming office.

They said Obi had not served the constitutionally stipulated four years in office. The Supreme Court justices said a fuller explanations of the judgement will be given on 13 July, 2007.

Obi was not in court but his deputy Dame Virginia Etiaba was in court.

As at the time of filing this report, there was jubilation in Abuja by supporters of Obi in court.

In the second case involving former Governor Rasheed Ladoja of Oyo State who also sought an extension of his tenure, due to his impeachment, the apex court referred the matter to the high court for adjudication.

Weep not for Ehindero

A Suspect is a suspect until facts are provided in a competent court that confirms his guilt. So let it be for Sunday Ehindero the man who until few days ago was the Inspector General of the Police.

While we wait for the police to thoroughly investigate and unravel the mystery surrounding the unbelievable sums of raw cash some policemen were to ferry away from the Force Headquarters recently, we can only hope they were not Ehindero’s.

Where on earth could he have made such a huge sum? This man who policed the most corrupt-free, elections, made this country crime free during his tenure and never for once meddled in politics could not have gotten his hands into filthy dirty naira and dollars not legitimately his.

Let no one touch Ehindero, for he carries the mark of the innocent. But please if it is the one and only thing Mike Okiro would achieve before he leaves as IGP, Nigerians want to know who owns the cash.

PoliticsLife Outside Presidency: Obasanjo Stranded In Traffic Jam by Larufa(op): 11:39am On Jun 08, 2007
Ten days after he relinquished power to Alhaji Umar Yar'Adua, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on Thursday, in Lagos, experienced hard life outside the Presidency as he was stranded in a traffic jam for almost two and half hours.

Obasanjo, who spoke in Abeokuta, during welcome-home reception organized in his honour by the Abeokuta Special Group (ASG), narrated how he left his Ota farm for Lagos early on Thursday hoping to reach his destination as early as 6.30 or 6.45 a.m. but got stranded in the usually hectic traffic jam in Lagos.

He urged young wealthy Nigerian, who have made money in the country, to spend part of such money by marrying more wives.
Although the former president did not mention where he went in Lagos, he said he was scheduled to meet three octogenarians in the "City of Excellence," adding: "On my way to Lagos this morning, everywhere was almost flooded. It took me two and a half hours to get to Chief Onabade’s house. I thought I would have got there by 6.30a.m. or quarter to seven.

The former president, who said he was not aware of the reception by the Abeokuta Special Group until Thursday morning, added that he was also to meet leaders of thought from Imo State at his Ota Farm
"Today (Thursday), I have already planned my programme to get to Lagos very early. I had appointments with three octogenarian, whom I promised to visit. My orientation course for the Open University will soon start. It took me two and half hours to get to the house of one of the octogenarians".
While commending the (ASG), whose membership include the Iyalode of Egbaland, Chief Alaba Lawson and former Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Folorunsho Oke and host others, he urged Nigerians to provide conducive environment for foreign investors.

"We must bend down to carry our load before we can get help from people. We must create conducive environment. An investor particularly, a foreign investor has alternatives. He may come to Nigeria, but he can also go to Ghana or can go to Sierra Leone. "
Whatever we may have, one thing that we may claim to have that others do not have is population, but population alone does not make it. Other things must be added to it. We have to create conducive environment. We have to show that we have something to show to attract investors because they can go to other states."

According to Obasanjo, "any investors who come to Nigeria may decide to go to Anambra State . He may go to Imo State. He may go to Cross Rivers State. He may go to Katsina. He may go to Kano. We have to show that we have something special to offer in Ogun State.
The former president also appealed to Nigerians, particularly those in Ogun State to make land available for industrial development.

His words: "I want to appeal to our people; we may need to make land available for investors. We may need to provide lands for development. Anybody who comes here and makes any form of development on our land wouldn’t carry it away.

"They will also employ our people, pay tax to Federal Government and those people who are workers there would pay income tax to state government. They will buy things. They may even marry our girls.
"I have always told young Nigerians not to just make money alone. Make money just make sure that you spend the money you make here in Nigeria. They asked how they can spend it here and I told them that if you have married one marry another one."

WebmastersMan Described As A Top Spammer Arrested by Larufa(op): 3:12pm On May 31, 2007
SEATTLE - A 27-year-old man described as one of the world's most prolific spammers was arrested Wednesday, and federal authorities said computer users across the Web could notice a decrease in the amount of junk e-mail

Robert Alan Soloway is accused of using networks of compromised "zombie" computers to send out millions upon millions of spam e-mails.

"He's one of the top 10 spammers in the world," said Tim Cranton, a Microsoft Corp. lawyer who is senior director of the company's Worldwide Internet Safety Programs. "He's a huge problem for our customers. This is a very good day."

A federal grand jury last week returned a 35-count indictment against Soloway charging him with mail fraud, wire fraud, e-mail fraud, aggravated identity theft and money laundering.

Soloway pleaded not guilty Wednesday afternoon to all charges after a judge determined that — even with four bank accounts seized by the government — he was sufficiently well off to pay for his own lawyer.

He has been living in a ritzy apartment and drives an expensive Mercedes convertible, said prosecutor Kathryn Warma. Prosecutors are seeking to have him forfeit $773,000 they say he made from his business, Newport Internet Marketing Corp.

A public defender who represented him for Wednesday's hearing declined to comment.

Prosecutors say Soloway used computers infected with malicious code to send out millions of junk e-mails since 2003. The computers are called "zombies" because owners typically have no idea their machines have been infected.

He continued his activities even after Microsoft won a $7 million civil judgment against him in 2005 and the operator of a small Internet service provider in Oklahoma won a $10 million judgment, prosecutors said.

U.S. Attorney Jeff Sullivan said Wednesday that the case is the first in the country in which federal prosecutors have used identity theft statutes to prosecute a spammer for taking over someone else's Internet domain name. Soloway could face decades in prison, though prosecutors said they have not calculated what guideline sentencing range he might face.

The investigation began when the authorities began receiving hundreds of complaints about Soloway, who had been featured on a list of known spammers kept by The Spamhaus Project, an international anti-spam organization.

The Santa Barbara County, Calif., Department of Social Services said it was spending $1,000 a week to fight the spam it was receiving, and other businesses and individuals complained of having their reputations damaged when it appeared spam was originating from their computers.

"This is not just a nuisance. This is way beyond a nuisance," Warma said.

Soloway used the networks of compromised computers to send out unsolicited bulk e-mails urging people to use his Internet marketing company to advertise their products, authorities said.

People who clicked on a link in the e-mail were directed to his Web site. There, Soloway advertised his ability to send out as many as 20 million e-mail advertisements over 15 days for $495, the indictment said.

The Spamhaus Project rejoiced at his arrest.

"Soloway has been a long-term nuisance on the Internet — both in terms of the spam he sent, and the people he duped to use his spam service," organizers wrote on Spamhaus.org.

Soloway remained in federal detention pending a hearing Monday.

PoliticsBaba Gana Kingbe Becomes Sgf by Larufa(op): 7:09pm On May 30, 2007
President Umar Yar’Adua made his first appointment this morning by naming Ambassador Babagana Kingibe as Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). Kingibe, who hails from Borno State, was former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s representative in the Darfur Sudan crisis and was the former chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) before he became the running mate to Basorun M.K.O. Abiola, acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

He is bringing into his new job a wealth of experience spanning several years across several states of the federation and world capitals.

Presidency sources also confirmed to P.M.News this morning that Maj-Gen. Sarki Mukhtar, Obasanjo’s National Secretary Adviser may have been told to continue his job by the new president.

Mukhtar replaced Gen. Aliyu Gusau as the NSA when the latter was removed by the Obasanjo administration.

P.M.News also gathered that Gen. Abdullahi Mohammed, Chief of Staff to the Obasanjo administration, has also been retained by the new president.

Gen. Mohammed served for eight years as Chief of Staff during the Obasanjo administration.

It was also gathered that a retired army general has been appointed as the new administrator of the FCT.

Former FCT Minister, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, it was learnt, has been shortlisted as a ministerial nominee by the new administration. He is expected to take over the power and steel portfolio.

Sources at the Presidency also revealed that the new president is currently studying the list of Police DIGs and AIGs to enable him appoint a new inspector general of police for the country.

The tenure of incumbent Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Sunday Ehindero, expires on Sunday, 3 June and a new police boss is expected to take over on Monday, 4 June.

Well, time will tell whether the decision is right or not.
But I will be looking forward to 2011 presidential election because i am sure Kingbe still has presidential ambition which he will surely use the office of SGF to enhance. Remember when he was the chairman of SDP and how he used his position to his favour during the SDP presidential primary in JOS.
