PoliticsTinubu Is My Role Model –kashamu by Larufa(op): 2:43am On Apr 16, 2015
SENATOR-ELECT and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Chief Buruji Kashamu, has described the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, as his role model.

Kashamu, who is the chairman of the Organisation and Mobilisation Committee of the PDP in the South-West, paid a rare tribute to the former Lagos State governor in an open letter, describing Tinubu as a true hero to be emulated by every Nigerian.

Kashamu is the senator-elect of Ogun-East senatorial district and one of the most vocal opponents of the APC before the party won the presidential election of March 28.

He said that it was important to honour those deserving of honour now that elections are over.

In the open letter addressed to Tinubu, Kashamu said, “Truth be told, men like you are made up of sterner stuff and are rare to come by in every generation. Little wonder you are called the Asiwaju and Jagaban of Borgu. I doff my hat.

“I hope that in spite of our membership of different political platforms, we would be able to collaborate for the upliftment of Yorubaland in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

“My sincere prayer is for the Almighty Allah to keep you and give you good health and long life to be able to see the Nigeria of your dream. For me, I join other Nigerians in wishing you the best, even as we aspire and pray Almighty Allah to make us – the younger ones – be like you, the Jagaban of Borgu.”

Kashamu described Tinubu as the architect of modern Nigeria, who, he said, made history by leading an opposition party for 16 years and then grabbing power at the centre.

He noted that without Tinubu, the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, would not have won the March 28 election.

He said, “Although I now belong to the opposition, your achievements transcend political divides and I am not ashamed to publicly acknowledge them. There is no denying the fact that your place in the history of the Yoruba race in particular, and, in Nigeria in general, is well etched.

“The fanatical support that the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, enjoys in his homestead was matched with your commanding influence in the politics of the South-West and indeed the Yoruba race to produce the results we witnessed during the elections.

“By your sheer wit and unwavering commitment to democratic ethos, true federalism and economic prosperity, you led the Alliance for Democracy from a one-state party to a regional party and now a national party that is about to form the government at the centre.”

Buruji, who sued former President Olusegun Obasanjo last December over a controversial book authored by the ex-President, also congratulated Obasanjo and Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

He promised Amosun that he would ensure that the nine PDP senators in the Ogun State House of Assembly give him maximum cooperation.

PoliticsMy Dad Is Being Illegally Detained By Governor Akpabio by Larufa(op): 4:29am On Apr 13, 2015
An avid LIB reader is reaching for the public's help, says her 72yr old dad is being illegally detained since yesterday in Akwa-Ibom by the state governor. She tells the full story of what happened below
My dad, Maj. Gen. E. Akpan (rtd) had gone out to vote in his polling unit, when he got back he met a mammoth crowd in his compound. The Corpers who were amongst the crowd explained to him that they had nowhere else to run to with the ballot materials and that Godswill Akpabio's thugs were on a rampage hijacking ballot boxes in all the local governments and carting them away to Akpabio in Government house, so they needed to run away with the ones in their possession for safe keeping and that they felt my father's compound was the safest place to bring them too till the thugs go away.
On hearing this my dad started making frantic efforts to reach Inec Head office in Uyo to alert them on what's happening in his village in Nsit Atai! However before contact could be established ‎SSS, police and the army stormed my father's compound and demanded to have access into the property! The youths immediately wanted to launch a protest but my dad hastily halted them saying he doesn't want further disruptions to the electoral process. He asked his soldiers who are detailed to him to open up the gate and allow them in. So SSS drove into the compound in their armored vehicles while shooting their machine guns into the air!

My father had to appeal to them to calm down. At this point the SSS officials told my dad that he has been invited to their office for questioning, my dad's soldiers immediately intervened saying they will not allow the General to be taken anywhere and that their job is to protect him! An argument ensued between my dad's soldiers and the SSS before my dad cut in and said he will graciously go with them for questioning. They told my dad it will only take a couple of hours, my dad's soldiers insisted on going with them and they agreed for two of them to come along. After a few hours of questioning Governor Akpabio ordered for my dad's soldiers to be sent back to base which is the barracks! His aide too was sent away.

My dad was now all alone with no communication with the outside world for hours. They kept turning my family away saying we can't see him. At about 9pm the family was now given access to my dad, he was weak and shaking and could barely utter a word! He was in a very bad shape and we were scared for his health, we begged and they agreed for a medical personnel to come and see him, as suspected his blood pressure was through the roof and he had to be given medication to arrest the situation before it got worse.

He was put in a dingy, dark and dirty cell room with a tattered, flimsy and disgusting mattress on the bare floor!

We were there till 12midnight and all they could tell us was that Governor Akpabio insist he's held there indefinitely! This is day 2 and my 74 year old pensioner father has not eaten or received proper medical attention! He has given his statement and is still being held without cause! The holding facility is in a deplorable condition and we are concerned that this will worsen his health! My father is innocent of what he's being accused of. Our dictator governor is well known for silencing and quenching anything that comes in the way of his atrocities!

He cannot stand a right standing citizen like my father because it makes him look bad which he is! They can continue with their "investigations" but Akpabio should please release my father from that dungeon! If my father dies in that cell just like all the others he has killed over the years this particular blood will take away peace from his life till he pays for it! For his own good let him do the needful! #releaseGeneralAkpan

cuteboy2:
For all practical purposes, even though the results are still being collated, I am deeply convinced that General Buhari will win this election by a very comfortable margin.

It is also my believe that President Jonathan will graciously concede defeat in a very mature and rancour free manner. He will not contest the results in court even though his acolytes and party men will stridently want him to. I believe, GEJ does not want to leave office looking like a sore loser.

Having said all these, it is safe to say that the 2015 Presidential Elections has been won and lost.

The elections are over!!!

What then will be the likely composition of General Buhari's cabinet? From keen observations of Buhari's campaign organisation, Buhari's utterances during the campaigns, and the actions and activities of various key actors in Gen Buhari's camp, I believe the following will either be in his cabinet or play key roles in his government.

It is obvious from Buhari's utterances during the campaigns that he will run a government whose policy direction and key economic decisions will be dictated by " a team". He kept harping on this.

The possible names are:

PoliticsFG Hires European Mercenaries To Fight B’haram by Larufa(op): 1:42am On Mar 13, 2015
There are indications that Nigeria has brought in hundreds of mercenaries from Eastern Europe to strengthen its war against militant Islamic group, Boko Haram.

The Eastern European mercenaries have joined their South-African counterparts and Nigerian soldiers fighting the insurgents.

According to Reuters, rumours about the use of foreign mercenaries against the Islamist militant group gained substance this month when pictures surfaced on Twitter showing Armoured Personnel Carriers vehicles on a street in Maiduguri, Borno State.

In the picture, which appeared on Twitter on March 6, a white man in a khaki, a tee-shirt and body armour, was standing beside a heavy-calibre machine gun on top of one of the sand-coloured APCs as the column drove through the streets at dusk.

The newswire stated that its reporter with knowledge of Maiduguri was able to verify the location of the photo as the Bama Road near the University of Maiduguri.

Security and diplomatic sources said the number of the mercenaries was much higher than the hundred or so previously reported.

When contacted by The PUNCH, the spokesman for the Defence Headquarters, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said “I don’t know anything about the claim”(the involvement of mercenaries in the fight against Boko Haram).

He added, “I just know Nigerian military and security forces are putting in all resources, training and experience acquired over the years to address security challenges.

“Our neighbours operating under the auspices of the Mutlinational Joint Task Force are also backing our efforts from all our borders with them. We also have some offers of training and intelligence from friendly countries.”

Attempts by The PUNCH to speak with the Director-General, National Orientation Agency, Mike Omeri, who coordinates the National Information Centre, on the issue proved abortive as he did not pick calls to his mobile phone.

He was also yet to reply a text message on the use of mercenaries in the North-East as of press time.

President Goodluck Jonathan had on Wednesday, said that two companies were providing “trainers and technicians” to help Nigerian forces in their efforts to end insurgency in the country.

He did not name the firms or the nationalities or give numbers.

It was gathered from a West African security source and a South African defence source that the mercenaries were linked to the bosses of a former South African private military.

The company is known for its involvement in Angola’s 1975-2002 civil war and against Revolutionary United Front rebels in Sierra Leone in 1995.

It disbanded in 1998, under pressure from the post-apartheid government in Pretoria to curtail mercenary activities.

Foreign fighters paid $400 cash daily

A West African security source said the foreign fighters were being paid around $400 a day.

A South African defence contractor confirmed that South African company leaders were involved in the deployment of the mercenaries.

An Abuja-based diplomat said the South Africans were backed by soldiers and hardware from the Eastern Europe in an alliance against Boko Haram .

“It’s an incoherent mix of people, helicopters and random kit from all sorts of different sources, but there is an element of internal cohesion from the Nigerian Army,” the diplomat said.

“It appears to be a desperate ploy to get some sort of tactical success up there in six weeks for the electoral boost,” the diplomat added. The numbers of soldiers involved were in the “low hundreds; he added.

Editor of African Armed Forces magazine, John Stupart, identified the troop carriers as Reva III, manufactured by a Pretoria-based company called Integrated Convoy Protection.

After reports of South African military trainers first surfaced in the Afrikaans-language Beeld newspaper in January, Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapise-Nqakula, made clear her displeasure, saying any deployment would be illegal under 1998 anti-mercenary laws.

PoliticsJonathan, No One Left To Lie To by Larufa(op): 5:11am On Mar 07, 2015
"Let’s start with power. As at New Year’s Eve, the total power generated was 4006.8MW. As at the time I was writing this piece, total power generated was less than 3,700MW – and that was after Jonathan had gone around the country claiming to be commissioning power projects that former President Olusegun Obasanjo had commissioned and which had been performing at about half their installed capacity in the last few years."

"If you have been conned into believing that Nigeria is now generating 5000MW of electricity, then you must be connected to the Jonathans, who neither pay PHCN bills nor have the faintest idea how much the public is paying to maintain the generators in the Presidential Villa."

"Every day, for five years, the NNPC has allocated 445,000bpd whether or not the product could be refined. This allocation works out to $16,253,625,000.00 per year and in Jonathan’s five years, that would be approximately $81,268,125,000.00. Where is the money?"

"Sources in NNPC told me last week that 55 per cent of equity valued at $2billion from the federal government’s divestment in Shell JV assets in OMLs 4, 26, 30, 34, 38, 40, 41 and 42, is being held by the NNPC/NPDC. While Jonathan’s government is lying that this asset is public trust and is in fact servicing its operations using public funds, the $2billion is still being retained by the NNPC/NPDC outside the Central Bank!

That’s why Jonathan will not release the PriceWaterHouse audit report, not at gunpoint or at the threat of litigation. Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, the two other presidents in the presidential godhead, know that that report is a smoking gun. They know that NNPC is the ATM of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, and that’s the way it is."

"Someone is probably reading this piece on a long queue near a petrol station. You’ve probably heard from Jonathan’s government and the ruling party that the opposition is responsible for your misery, when, in fact, the NNPC owes petrol importers N480billion, the last payment being in October."

"Those who wish may believe the lies and enjoy the fool’s ride on the fictitious new roads and in imaginary train cabins contained in campaign posters and on billboards. In the last few weeks especially, there have been enough lies to go round and enough foot soldiers paid to spread them with incredible vehemence. The use of vile language, at which Dame Patience Jonathan is proving a prolific life coach, is another matter."

In the end, there are three kinds of people: those who are paid to lie, those who are happy to be lied to and those who will stand their ground. You’ll have to see through the lies and depend on more than good luck to spot the difference and roll back the tide.

Salvation from Jonathanoid is a personal choice.
