In March 2002, Lawrence Agada, an assistant pastor who was a cashier with the Lagos Sheraton Hotels and Towers, donated cash and gifts totaling N39 million to the church. Agada’s donations were in instalments. He bought a 250KVA generator valued at N4.4 million, and another 27KVA generator for N1.5 million, which he donated to a satellite branch of the church. Before then, he had given N6 million for the refurbishment of the branch, as well as N1 million for the purchase of plastic seats for the headquarters.

Fear Gribs Fani-Kayode: Begs Law-Makers, Others

Afraid that his nomination as a minister may be quashed by the Senate, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Communications, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has started lobbying senators to forget the past and approve his nomination. Caustic-tongued Fani-Kayode, has stepped on the toes of many, whom he had derided with foul languages, while responding to criticisms against the President.

Fani-Kayode had in many instances, abused senators and prominent Nigerians, whenever their path crossed that of the President. P.M.News investigation revealed that following the submission of his name as a ministerial nominee to the Senate for approval, Fani-Kayode has been meeting the senators begging them to forgive him if he had offended them. He is reportedly asking the senators to see his defence of the President and his administration as a measure of his loyalty to the President.

Meanwhile, Fani-Kayode has dragged an Abuja-based newspaper, Leadership, to court, for accusing him of possessing a fake certificate.
Sources close to the ministerial nominee, told P.M. News that the suit would be instituted against the newspaper today. the publication had alleged that Fani-Kayode did not possess the academic qualification or certificate, which he claimed to have acquired from Cambridge University. The paper also alleged taht some senators opposed to his nomination had dispatched emissaries to Ghana to ascertain the true mental state of the ministerial nominee.

Christianity EtcI’m An Ogboni Chief Says Guru Maharaj Ji by Larufa(op): 7:43pm On Jun 07, 2006
He calls himself The Living Perfect Master and the father of creation. His teeming followers believe he is. Even though Christians view the man’s claim as heresy, his followers still adore and worship him in awe. To them, Sat Guru Maharaj Ji is a super being who has no equal.

Such is the larger-than-life image he created among his followers that they now believe his name is the golden key they need to procure divine favour and secure refuge from the powers and principalities of this wicked world. They strongly believe that Satguru Maharj Ji is a fountain of knowledge that people of all races must flock to sop and drink.

However, it appears the myth surrounding the self-styled Living Perfect Master is about to be shattered with his recent installation as a high ranking chief by the Aborigine Ogboni Fraternity Worldwide, a powerful cult that draws its membership among the high and mighty in virtually all fields of human endavour, including religion, in the country and beyond.

With Maharaj Ji’s recent installation, the question that may agitate the minds of his teeming followers would be: how can The Living Perfect Master, the self-acclaimed father of creation, the Alpha and Omega, Messiah and Liberator of Mankind, now subordinate his power and authority and align with a cult and even accept a high-ranking title from it? This, many agree, may make his followers’ faith in him to wane.

But is Sat Guru Maharj Ji a member of the Ogboni fraternity? When Weekly Spectator put this question to him, Maharaj Ji was not equivocal as he instantly declared:
“I am proud to be one of the Ogboni fraternity. I am even more than an ambassador of the Ogbonis. I am like a son to the head of the fraternity.”
An enigma of some sort, Maharaj Ji is not new to controversy. Since his emergence from obscurity to the national limelight over two decades ago, Maharaj Ji has always been in the news. He is never shy of controversy.

To him, there is absolutely nothing wrong in being an Ogboni member as he strongly believes that it is only a few members of the society that are painting Ogboni members in bad light. And that they are doing so out of ignorance of what the fraternity is and what it’s not.
“The fact that I am a member of the Ogboni fraternity does not and cannot remove the fact that I am still The Living Perfect Master,” he declared matter-of-factly. “Others must still come to seek divine knowledge from me. To me, Ogboni members are a blessing to the society. We should not castigate them.”

Guru Maharaj Ji, whose real name is Muhammed Saibu Ajirobatan, hailed from a royal family in Ibadan. According to him, he received divine knowledge while studying in London in 1954.
“During the divine encounter,” he continued, “ I received the light, and was mandated to go and liberate mankind from poverty, oppression and injustice. I was specifically told to return to Nigeria and start the work of the one that sent me.”

On how he came about the name Sat Guru Maharaj Ji, he said: “Unknown to many people, Sat Guru Maharaj Ji is not an Indian name. It is the original, true name of the creator derived from Sankskirt, the mother tongue of creation.”

Of course, when someone is collecting 10% of the income of all the members of a network of churches, that person is going to be very very rich! And what's more? They don't pay tax on this income! Can't you hear the divine call?

How I can convince all Nairaland members that I have the right to collect just 1% of their incomes?  cheesy
Seun, u are absolutely right. They collect 10% of members income, offerings and gifts from church members and they do not pay tax. why will they not be very rich. This is the most lucrative biz now.
Where Banks, warehouses and industries are closing, new churches are springing up.

The Pastors and their wives are the signatory to the bank account.

Remember the case of two members of his church one stole money from Sheraton Hotels and other from the Treasury of Eko International Bank sometime ago and donated the money to the church.

Only A Military Man Should Be President, Says David Mark

As politicians jostle for the nation’s most powerful position, a senator on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, Gen. David Mark, has declared that the best person for the job should be someone with a military background.

Mark said in an interview with our correspondents in Abuja during the week that anyone lacking this qualification should not be allowed to be the nation’s president.

Citing United States as an example, Mark who is the chairman of Senate Committee on Police Affairs, said the world’s leading democracy, which he described as “the mother of all democracies,” had been ruled by presidents who served in the military.

In his contention, the possession of a military background ensures that the candidate is well groomed and adequately prepared to assume the position.

“Do you know the history of America, the mother of all democracies? Who among the presidents did not wear uniform? Go and look at the percentage. Do you know one of the things that would have worked against Clinton was that he did not wear uniform? If I have my way, I will say whoever does not have a military background should not be made president,” he said.

Asked why, he retorted, “You civilians don’t have the requisite training.”

When Saturday Punch pointed out to him that the US had never been ruled by serving military men, Mark said there was no difference.

He said it was wrong for retired military officers to be disqualified from public office by virtue of their background, noting that nothing placed civilians at a better advantage than military men in politics.

He said, “So, what’s the difference? I am a professional soldier and that is my choice. But because of that, you think you should disenfranchise me? That is wrong,” he stated.

He also stated that journalists should be made to undergo military training because that would imbue them with confidence in every area.

“It gives you the confidence that you need and makes you to be everything. Today, I know about my car more than my driver does. I can do more repairs on it and so on. That is one of the things we were trained on in the military. We are well trained more than other people. I can tell you that a staff sergeant in the army is better than a university graduate in this country. That is the truth.

“If you give me a graduate and a staff sergeant, I will pick the sergeant because I can train the sergeant.

“Yes, because military training is the best. That training gives you boldness. You people think we are just zombies.

No. Your commander gives you reasons for giving you an instruction. Go to the War College, you will see civilians there. They go to Staff College. It is because of the training.”

Mark was one of the senators who supported the constitution amendment bill, which was recently thrown out by the National Assembly. He was a member of the Mantu-led committee that recommended third term for President Olusegun Obasanjo. During the reign of the self-styled president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, he was one of the few officers alleged to have played a prominent role in the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, believed by many to be the freest and fairest election in the nation’s political history.

@Asiwaju,
Thanks for all your postings. we seem to think alike.
While have huge foreign reserves while Basic infrastructure needed and necessary for industrial development are lacking. The best value that can be given to any fund is to invest it in assets/programs that will be useful now and in the future, adding value to the fund. This is what can be refer to as Leadership Vision. Not just putting it in Foreign Bank Vaults.
Pa Awolowo did same in the 60's -- Industrial and Housing Estates, Television Station, Best Road Network, Free and qualitative Education, Functional Farm settlements, all these are still with us till date.

Why is OBJ Govt. keeping huge foreign reserves in foreign banks, where the home countries are using the same fund to give us loans/grant and developing their economy. we have to put the fund into useful and meaningful use.

It is a statement of fact that Oil price will fall, in fact our crude will finish one day, so why not invest the ready fund in provision of the infrastructure neccessary catalsyst for our industrial development, which will serves as shock absorber during these period, making us to depend less on income from crude oil.
Japan does not produce crude oil but their income from manufactured goods in far higher than that of Nigeria. Why ?? They invest heavily in Education, provision of the enabling environment for industry growth.

ComputersAfricans Are Charged 90 Times More For Internet Access by Larufa(op): 5:41pm On May 22, 2006
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - African Internet users pay on average 90 times what Americans pay, crippling efforts by the world's poorest continent to become competitive, a senior Kenyan official said.

Internet users in America pay $20 US for one gigabyte of data per month, but people in Africa pay about $1,800 for the same amount of data, Minister for Information and Communication Mutahi Kagwe said in a speech read on his behalf by Permanent Secretary Bitange Ndemo.

That's partly because the infrastructure-strapped continent spends millions of dollars every year to route data and voice traffic from one African country to another through Europe or North America, Kagwe said.

"The only undersea fibre optic cable to connect several African countries and the rest of the world , remains the most expensive in the world and contributes to the high costs of bandwidth in Africa," Kagwe told participants at the Africa Information and Communication Technology conference.

Only about 1.5 per cent of Africa's estimated 906 million people are connected to the Internet. By contrast, more than 70 per cent of people in Hong Kong are online, Kagwe said.

"We are behind almost everybody," he said.

Jakumo:
Onanugaola your assertion that Femi Fani Kayode is "addicted" to unspecified drugs does not square with the fact that he happens to be one of the most articulate, insightful and persuasive Nigerian speakers of the English language that has occupied public office for many decades. If the guy relaxes at home with a joint and a glass of Chablis, I hardly think that qualifies him as a "drug addict". Bill Clinton was agruably one of America's most beloved presidents, yet he admitted to having smoked the occasional funny cigarette in his past, and later topped that schocker with his confessions of being munched on by the amply proportioned Monica Lewinsky within the White House premises.

In summary, public officers in any government needn't be faultless angels to effectively carry out their jobs, and Fani Kayode is no exception, even if one disagrees with the government policies that he is tasked to sell to the press.
All what I said is that "Femi" was a drug addict. He has being rehabilitated in Ghana/South Africa.
