Oh I'm in IT so I'm on top of the security stuff grin

The reason that I ask is that I've never done any concrete structure (all my houses here are wood) so not sure if wireless stuff works in Nigeria.

Thanks.
Well, positioning of the primary Router and secondary Access points can come-in handy at that though concrete will dampen the signal more than wood.
but then, its just a small distance between the cams and the Devices.
In my case, it was within solid, block walls (Nigeria) and it was okay.

A lie may travel for a thousand miles, but it takes just one step of truth to catch up with it...

BLOOD ON THE NIGER: THE FIRST BLACK ON BLACK OCTOBER 1967 GENOCIDE OF ASABA PEOPLE BY MURTALA, GOWON  AND AWOLOWO

The genocide against the Igbos has been proved beyond reasonable doubt by the apology made to Asaba people by General Gowon when he came there after the release of the Blood On The Niger.

History is an account of the actions of actors in a community or in a state recorded that made impacts during their time. Awolowo was a great leader; great politician and great performer in government but his activities during the civil war were negative. If you are a writer, you cannot defend his position that starvation is an instrument of warfare. Starvation cannot be an instrument of warfare when you are fighting a civil war.

Nigeria was being supplied arms from all countries. For the first time there was an unholy alliance between the Soviet Union and the West. It had never happened before. Any place that there was a war of revolution, the USSR is always taking the place of the revolutionary. How come that the USSR for the first time allied with the West against Biafra? So, let somebody go and disprove Achebe; that is what we want to see not that somebody did not commit genocide. Genocide has been proved to be committed. If there were no genocide, the World Council of Churches, the Caritas wouldn't have come in droves. If genocide was not committed, why did Biafra lose two million casualties, most of them civilians and children? And if people are not apologising to Igbos, why should they now come out to talk because one man has been put to where he belongs in history. He was the principal protagonist of using starvation as an instrument of warfare against his fellow citizens. Remember that Nigeria was fighting a war of unity. They were not as desperate as the other camp (ibos) that was fighting a war of secession.
Awolowo was the Minister of Finance under Gowon. He was the de facto prime minister of Nigeria during the war and he performed. I don't grudge him for winning the war for Nigeria; for changing the currency. He can win the war by all means but the fact that he prevented massive aid from coming is genocidal.

There was an inhuman instance. There was an incident where a Red Cross plane coming with medication and food was blown off the sky for the beleaguered people of Biafra. grin grin
Even after the war, what was the purpose of denying Igbos their primary source of protein-stockfish? grin grin
How can you defend the policy of giving people who have lost everything only 20 Pounds?
If there is anybody that should have been given more, the returning war battered people of Biafra should have received more. shocked shocked

The Igbos have always accepted Awolowo as a great leader but his activities during the civil war shocked them. BY THE OBJECTIVE OF THE JANUARY 15 COUP, as quoted by Odia Ofeimun, the poet, the boys believed he was the greatest leader.

THE LEADERS OF THE COUP, WERE TO MAKE CHIEF AWOLOWO THE PRIME MINISTER OF NIGERIA. These coup leaders didn't go for Azikiwe or Balewa. They wanted Chief Awolowo as quoted by Odia in a 1999 edition of The Guardian. Awolowo was supposed to be released by the Nzeogwu coup, which didn't have its assumed ending; it was aborted half way.
(Liar! For a whole year that Aguiyi Irosi was head of state, you mean he could not find the KEYS to the Prison?)

It was Nzeogwu's colleague, Major Nzegwu that was supposed to pick him from Calabar prison and release him. So, I'm proving to you that the Igbo literality have always accepted Awo as one of the best and great leaders the country has ever produced but his activities during the war did not only shock them but betrayed the trust they had in.

That is why we glorify other great literality like Wole Soyinka who told us in his book A Man Died that extermination was committed in Asaba. He was the first courageous soul in Nigeria that told the world about the Asaba massacre.

http://nigeriavillagesquare.com/forum/main-square/73341-most-those-murdered-asaba-muritala-gowon-awo-were-action-group-members-emma-okocha-author-blood-niger.html
War is WAR (with capital letters) and it is not moin-moin. You better not start one if you know you cant win it.... moreso, even the winner of the war suffers a lot of casualties, not to mention the loser!

The bigger question is: have people like you learned ANYTHING from the past war.... as l see that you are still advocating for another war with the rubbish that you spew from your clandestine Radio Biafra?

I dont think so.
Awo did his best as a humanbeing, he discharged his duties to his fatherland, to the best of his knowledge and not in a small way!

The 1966 Coup with started all these was plotted and executed by Ibos. (see the attached list below)
No Ibo of any relevance was killed but the Highest "Political and Military officers" of the North and Yoruba-West ....were murdered in cold blood.
If you do that and dont expect a revenge, then you are living in fools paradise!

Trying to blame it on happenings in the West is just the Ibo's sly ways of justifying criminality.

Maybe you can reflect on WHY EVERYONE HATES THE IBOS.... even Russians hate them and sided with the WEST (for the first and only time as you put it!)?
There must be something Ibos are refusing to accept, that accounts for this hatred and until they recognize, realize and accept it, they cannot change it.... but will keep on moaning about it for generations.

I tell you, if they try what they did back then TODAY, the results will be the same, if not even worse.
The world is a small village now and everyone around the world knows the Ibos and what they represent so dont think anyone can be fooled.

If they want, they want be honest with themselves and do a "soul-searching" which can lead to change ... or they can continue in their OBSTINATE WAYS, hoping some miracle will happen. Its their choice, ewo lo'kanmi mbe? undecided

This comment is mainly to find something constructive to talk about apart from the brab us n Johnny brouhaha.. Im iniviting all professionals n enthusiasts in the house cc @hajjMufutau @segzy14 @3strike @brag3 @segcymoor @spyder880 @gabbytabby @egunmogaji *I cant remember all handles*

Its about alternative use of clay pots for slabs (decking). Its been promoted as a way to reduce weight on the foundation especially for high rise buildings.
In this case, I'm standing on the 3rd floor of a buildiing but the clay pots have been in use from the First floor as seen in the pic below. The clay pots can be used for the cantilevers too

Advantages include: great cost saving in terms of iron rods, volume of concrete, man-hour time etc..

What's your view on the use of these pots?
I am very interested in this method of slab construction though l dont have the know-how.
I have raised the issue in a thread about two years ago and no one seem to know much about it as well and l think its a problem of knowledge otherwise, it is something that should be embraced.

Do you have "online" reading references you can refer me/us to, so we can do a little read-up on it.
I will personally like to witness "How It is Done" on a building when it gets to that stage, for practical knowledge.

I should be doing a house in about a year or two and would not mind incorporating that method as l can see the numerous advantages already.
I still wonder how it is that the Pots dont fall down vertically when the wooden support is removed? huh
Can you please throw some light on this?

@TwinsKenny, I plan on using wireless for my cameras.

Or do you recommend I run cables? I use wireless exclusively here but trying to gauge what works better in Nigeria.
Please use wireless. Minimum IP66 for externals, with 600TVL and above Day and Night Cams

The advantages are many:
No wall drilling
No lengthy and sometimes unsightly cables
Probability of cable breakage is zero
Cost effective
Easy to reposition cameras at will (very important) and many more

That is what l installed in my own house and l did it by myself (okay, l have experience in such stuff but it is still very easy to do)

They both work same way. Everything is most 'plug-and-play' nowadays. grin
The problem with Nigeria is just the "Bandwidth capacity" that may slow transmission down, causing 'lagging', especially if you need to view from say a foreign country or when on the move, like l do but you can overcome those as well.

The only thing ...and this is very important.... that you need to worry about if doing it yourself, is in the area of Security/Safety.
Your Data (Camera feed to Video monitors) have to be encrypted properly otherwise, its like you are exposing yourself to the 'bad world'.

Dont ever use OEM passwords. Change them regularly (to forestall compromise), store them securely (you will surely forget) and use strong passwords.
A Cisco Router will help you in terms of Security/Encryption.
You can even get used ones (say from those upgrading to higher specs) that will do your job effectively.

In his response, the Eze-Ndigbo of Amuwo-Oriade, Dr. Gordian Dimojiaku, promised Akiolu that the Igbos in the state would support Ambode.

“The mistake of last Saturday was caused by everybody, not only the Igbos. It is not only the Igbos that were responsible for the votes. But we have learnt our lesson. Saturday’s election is going to be a different thing and Ambode is going to win.

“Everybody knows that when you fail the first time, you cannot afford to fail again. We are going to tell our people that Ezes from the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas are here and that we have sworn with the Oba that we are going to make sure that Ambode wins next Saturday’s election,” he said

Hahahha man you are ignorant. So you are saying people can make any type of comment insofar the comment does not warrant to peoples death right? For your information people do actually lose their jobs and in some cases subjected to criminal trial after making inciting or racial comments like the one the infamous Oba made. Long serving skysports analysts richard keys and Andy Gray lost their jobs as a result of racial comment they made about a female lines woman. John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy and fined heavily after making racial comment about Antoine Ferdinand. He was even charged for criminal prosecution. If you so much believe in this freedom of speech, how about you going on air threatening to kill the president. If you are not picked then I will agree with you that truly freedom of expression do confer on us the right to say anything we want.
Well, if we go by your analogy, we shall wait until that Kanu of "Radio Biafra" rots in jail for his inciting comments, before even examining what the Oba said.

The former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Allison Madueke, failed to sign a long-term agreement with New Delhi, Nigeria’s Number One oil buyer, but rather used intermediaries in the annual $14 billion deal, the Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Ajjampur R. Ghanashyam, has revealed.

Speaking in an interview with Daily Trust on Saturday at the weekend, the High Commissioner stated that Nigeria is the only country who uses intermediaries in its oil deals with India, saying, “From other countries, when we buy oil, whatever we want to pay, we pay to the Ministry of Finance of that country. In Nigeria, we pay to intermediaries. We would like to be dealing directly with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). It’s not a good thing. Why should we go through intermediaries? Secondly, we would also like to have long term agreement, which we have with many countries: Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and other countries from where we buy oil. Nigeria is the only country with whom we don’t have an agreement. .. When we write a letter to NNPC, we don’t get a response.”

Why not make a one time investment into the power sector with that and ensure there is constant electricity. That will pay them more in the long run.

Might not be a wise thing to say. Just thinking outside the box. Heard it will cost us about 30billuon dollars to provide electricity to Nigerians. I see opportunity tho.
Another alternative is for say three Telecoms coy to come together and operate via a SINGLE BASE STATION, USING SOLAR POWER SYSTEMS (Batteries, inverters, Panels, e.t.c).
The setup cost may be initially high but it is cheaper in the long run.

Moreover, PMB's Govt is making a lot of effort to ensure we all go beyond those "bad times" of 2hours of electricity per week, as experienced under that clueless Jonathan

The money should be given to the elderly and disabled, others should be helped through their home states and local govt empowerment programs with one time interest free soft loans.
Electricity is becoming more regular now so there is no excuse for not prospering.
Aside the elderly and disabled, every other "poor Nigerian" should LEARN A TRADE (Barbing, Tailoring, Mechanic, Welding, bricklaying, e.t.c) and stop expecting freebie from Buhari's Govt!

Awoof season is over, Amnesty Awoof ended with Jonathan's govt.
No work, No Pay, No food for the lazy soul.

Jonathan's drinking was Nigeria's least problem with his Government.

For all we cared, he could have drank himself into the Guinness Book of World Records. Our problem(s) with him then, was his level of clueless-ness and the level of corruption he was enmeshed in.

Jonathan and his foot soldiers drank their way into the Guinness Book Of Corruption.

So Vanguard that i use to respect wants to put this hard working Government in a bad light? not a problem. President Buhari is an Honorable man, and will keep to his promises. As Long as Saraki and Dogora are ready to pass it into law in their Chambers, then i dont see how this can be a problem.

This man is barely 6 Months in Office, and all these PDP Hallelujah singers, are just grasping on any straw of criticism against this Government. It will not work, and Project Nigeria Will Be Great Again is on the March.

Sai Buhari.
Let those foolish "poorst 25million Nigerians" list their names for us to SEE and VERIFY that they are truly the POOREST NIGERIANS...

after that, Buhari will start paying them.

This one nor be "amnesty-come-and-chop" o!

yorubatic: We should support the actualization of odua republic...we can't remain cowards in the eye of the ibos . ..I prefer sophisticated and progressive Odu'a republic than this nigeria. ..

Hausa/Fulani are not our kins...they should learn to fight for their own war and achieve their arewa republic. .

.....yorubas should concentrate their energy on the actualization of odua republic instead of mocking the brave biafrans. ..it's a great feat to withstand a combined efforts of yorubas and Hausa/Fulani plus the western powers....I don't think any other nigerian ethnic group can do that

It is a shame that a Nigerian can make this kind of comment.

Buhari is your personal lord and savior not that of Nigerians
because Buhari and his works shall pass away just like others.
Shut the phuck Up!
He never said "Lord and Saviour".........

He said "last hope" in political circles.

You #Wailers like to twist things because of your "Internal Pain" ...and may that pain never end, even after 2023. tongue tongue
Ignorant Eediot!

PMB is "accountable" to the MAJORITY of NIGERIANS who voted him into power.
We are watching every step he takes and so far, like McDonald's, WE ARE LOVING IT
