Nope, there is absolutely no truth in that woman's account.

(1) Professor Alexia Thomas is a fraudster herself, whose previous career as a musician apparently tanked.

(2) The Assisted Voluntary Return programme which has stringent conditions, does not pay each illegal immigrant £3000 - Fact!
https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/returning-to-your-country-assisted-voluntary-return-programmes
http://www.choices-avr.org.uk/

It is clear to me that this rabble-rouser who styles herself as an activist can't tell the difference between her arms and her elbows.
Thank you for these insight!

I was wondering how any "sensible person" will be threatening to burn down a High Commission, OPENLY!

MrCuddles:
It's very true. When the scheme first started, deportees were given the money and it was not seized. People were willing to go home because they could use the money to settle in till they can find a job or start a business. I don't blame only Nigerian government, i also blame the British Government because this could be easily curbed if they used other means of payment. i.e. PayPal, Western Union, cheque etc
Thank you very much for your post.
It is most sensible.

Let me also add that this Mrs thomas Alexia, though trying to do a good thing (fighting corruption), is going about it the very WRONG WAY!
You dont issue ultimatums to a sovereign Govt, no matter how noble your cause is
You dont threaten to incite public disorder which will result into arson
You dont threaten to set Govt buildings on fire

Just imagine, God forbid that High Commission building is set on fire, does she not know she will be in serious trouble..... even if she did not personally light the match?
Arson carries a very heavy jail sentence, l hope she knows this?

I always wonder why and where this AGGRESSIVE ATTITUDE comes from?
Every thing is not done with aggression but most success are gotten with "TACT and DIPLOMACY"
.

It would have been better if she went directly to the British Authorities, with concrete evidence (e.g., Video statements from Deportees whose money have been seized, name of immigration officers involved, dates, e.t.c).

She could have even worked "under-cover" by pretending and getting arrested and offered same money to be deported ... while secretly filming and gathering evidence!
This is how things work.
For these she would get the Queens cross of bravery instead of challenging and issuing threats to a Govt!

Most likely, there is connivance between some British Officers and their Nigerian immigration officials and they likely share the proceeds.

Our foreign Missions have become a worse disgrace since the days of OBJ when car
diplomats are neglected and "concubines" like Chema Chikwe, Bianca Ojukwu, e.t.c are posted an Ambassadors to foreign missions.
These "Diplomats" think they are where they are, not because they have a job or duty to perform but because they have "earned it" by sleeping with "Oga-at-the Top".

To catch a thief, you not only need to act like a thief, but you need to outsmart the thief.

missyadorable:
Rape is a normal thing in Nigeria

All men are potential rapists

It is imperative that mothers keep an eye on their daughters

Do not trust any man,no matter who he is or how old he is

Even a dead man in the grave will wish he can raise up to rape

In our society,a man has right to rape any female he likes

So females,be careful
Your brain is obviously twisted!
I am a man, l have daughters, one in the age of this girl.
I keep "more than" an eye on my adorable girls, ....likewise their mother
They have never been molested (I will personally waste whoever does that to my own daughter) and l have not molested anyone's daughter.

So, where and how did you come up with that crap about "a man has the right to rape any female or every man is a rapist"?
Is your own father still raping you or are you just a Prostitute? huh huh

"IFF" that landlord was actually responsible for raping her, l guess he should spend the next TWENTY YEARS in jail, at the least.

But l find a lot of "red flags" in this story
And when l find red flags in stories like "Rape", my first inclination is "Justice must be done but an innocent man must not be punished"
.

at 14 yrs.
She was raped three times... and never told her mother? (let us leave such fathers who was never around to look after their children, for now)
She was able to SUCCESSFULLY LIE and push the blame on a classmate... to the POLICE, even under interrogation!
The Rapist was caught (not Christopher!) and was being taken to the Police station but was rescued by Hoodlums and "taken away"?
She was after then kidnapped by another set of Rapist (Three in number) who raped her all night!
Now, the Landlord again raped her and she fainted

Hmm... too many gaps, too many possibilities!
I am not saying she was not raped ... but l am wondering of the Landlord was the culprit and if this is not just an excuse to settle old scores like a Landlord/Tenant dispute.

The Police need to properly connect the dots and establish beyond doubt, that the Landlord actually raped her.
RAPE, especially of an under-age, is a very serious offence, even the death penalty will not be too much

Just my take.

The same way you were smashing Awolowos widow mercilessly after her husband took razak rat poison. ewedu guzzling fool
Its unfortunate that the great sage Awolowo, has to die like a "real man"..... by taking his own life. Even as a civilian!

When the chips are down, a REAL MAN with GUTS and DIGNITY, will fall on his own sword, in other words, take his own life rather than be ridiculed publicly.
Such action also sends a message to his followers that "Death is better than disgrace"....... especially for a race that has a NAME... and cherishes its NAME.

Now, compare that to your "Biafruad Army General Odumegwu Ojukwu.
*This was a man who supposedly led an insurrection against Nigeria
*This was a man who led over four million people to war.... and over three million to their untimely death via "forced conscription".
*This was a man, when it was time to "man-up", ran away dressed like a woman, with his "manhood" (for lack of a better word since he obviously was not a man and didn't have one grin ) between his wrapper!
*This was a man who cannot stand where "real men" are standing
*This was the same man who, after the slaughter of millions of his rag-tag Biafrans by Nigeria, for the sake of his own GREED came crying and begging to be allowed to contest as President of the same Nigeria?
*He contested under the same Nigerian flag, for which millions of your fore-fathers died ....FOR NOTHING! tongue tongue
*HE LOST EVERYWHERE! grin grin

What manner of a man, "forcefully sacrifices" millions of his people for a cause, only to flip-flop and seek to benefit from the defeat of same cause?
Only an Ibo person can do that!

Here how the then Head of State, General Gowon described Ojukwu:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFfAVrh06fA
General yakubu Gowon: Ojukwu, who "boasted" that he will fight to the last, alas, ran away like a coward that he is. he could have "bravely" taken poison like Hitler did and be a man .... but he cowardly ran away, leaving all these people (Yiibos) to suffer! - (4mins on the Tape)
Since l see the same "Boastful Cowardice" in Baifrauds and "IPADs" as of today, it is only logical for me to conclude that such behaviour and mentality is "GENERATIONAL" in these Igbos from that cursed Biafra.

You, foolishGlobe, is an example of a 'latter-day' Ojukwu!

Most nairalanders like this Foolish-globe are decayed, indolent Youths who have no single semblance of brain-matter in their head!

Let us for a minute ASSUME this story is TRUE.

Boko haram plays a serious propaganda war to demoralise the Nigerian citizens and Military troops.

1.) It would have been all over Youtube.
Even the Russian Marine that these terrorists killed yesterday when that terrorist country Turkey downed a Russian plane, was loaded to Youtube within hours.
when they kidnapped girls, we saw their video on Youtube but when their leader was killed, have you seen the Murtherphucker with his chewing stick release any video of himself since then? ...................NO!!

2.) Assume the deaths are true, any matured and sensible person should know that the Nigerian Military and Government can use such "silence method" to take the sting out of their propaganda and at the same time, ensure that such news does not demoralise the citizenry and the gallant soldiers who are putting their life on the line, for our own safety.... for the safety of Nymphomaniac animals like FFK

This does not implying lying or not loving or not respecting the soldiers. It is called "War Management".

That all these "IPAD" Eediots are all over the place trying to make a mountain out of such situation shows that Gowown was correct in n his assertion, back then in 1970 when he said

General Gowon: "The Yiibos will be treated as equal citizens of this country...... UNLESS BY THEIR OWN BEHAVIOUR, THEY ACT AS SECOND CLASS CITIZENS". (8:30 seconds on the tape) - General Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria's head of State!

Cost - chose 1 (uses less materials)

beauty - chose 2 (This much is obvious)

Durability - Chose 2 (Run-offs is quicker than 1, due to angle of slope, Less likely to rust as it does not retain water or other contaminants easily, compared to 1;Less likely to be "blown-off by wind" (for same type of tie-down) compared to 1 )

There are so many ways to "prevent, contain and quench" a fire.

This post is particularly about "CONTAINMENT OF FIRE" in the event of an outbreak..... not about "possible causes of Fire"!

"Concreting" is surely one of the "established" methods, irrespective of whether you agree or not, for containing fire

FYI:Unlike other building materials like wood/PVC
*Concrete does not burn nor add to the fire load
*Concrete provides "Compartmentation" in case of fire, due to its high resistance to fire
*Concrete is easier to repair, after a fire
*Concrete is a protective material, it does not produce smoke or other hazardous fumes during a fire
*Concrete structures remain mostly stable, during a fire
*Concrete provides safe escape and safe fire fighting environment
*Concrete reduces the risk of "roof collapse" in case of fire
*Concrete is not affected by water, used to quench a fire

Inward looking in what sense ?

When you dont have a funtioning refinery.
Inward-looking means "policy and actions that puts the local market as priority!

This means instead of, for example, developing "Export Infrastructure" for crude, we should be investing in building local refineries!

just to mention one example.

You have made a very good point. However, please subject it to the W test.

WHO will build the refinery? FG? No way. They will build and paralyze it. Government CANNOT run any business. Private sector? Go and ask Dangote if there is any headway with the Lekki Refinery!

WHAT - For what? You mentioned export. Dont forget the law of competitive advantage. You can only export where your production price is much lower than other exporting countries. So, how do you achieve low production cost where everything thing is so expensive and where government is either FINING you or taxing you to coma? Go and ask MTN and the banks.

WHERE - In the north? That will be a big joke. In South East? Or South South? Ok, maybe in the South West. I pray o. For now, investors only trade in the stock exchange where they can sell within 24 hours and pick race.

We have to pray o. We are a bit far from El Dorado. The fact that government at al levels are not shwoing any sense of direction create more fears than hopes.

I disagree with the notion that "Government cannot run any business successfully"!

Maybe we should "qualify" that statement by saying "A BAD/CORRUPT GOVT cannot run any business successfully?

The U.K has built Refineries, it is currently building a Nuclear Power plant, same goes for France and many other countries.
These are also "Govt"!

The difference therein, is our own LEVEL OF CORRUPTION IN GOVT CIRCLES.
Until we give very serious attention to tackling corruption cum Economic Sabotage by imposing the DEATH PENALTY, as done in countries like China and most of Asia...... we would continue to go in circles

Let us also note that the private sector is all about "maximum profit, at the shortest cycle". They are no charity!

For capital intensive projects like Power, Steel, Petrochemical to some extent, whose "payback cycle" runs into 50years and above, you will hardly get a Private Company investing into such because they cant wait for that long to recoup their investment.

Such Capital intensive ventures are "first" funded and built by Govt (using tax payers money and National Income) ...and then "sold to privates hands" FOR MANAGEMENT in short cycles (say ten year cycles) so that Govt can recoup its own investments back, bit by bit because Govt is a "continuum".

Did you notice that it was Govt that built virtually anything of intensive Capital in Nigeria and most where done under the military regime where the "political will" was there? Talk of 3rd Mainland Bridge, Abuja capital City, All the refineries, Steel Mills, e.t.c
Even the 2nd Niger Bridge used to hoodwink the Ibo peeps by GEJ is still a phantom project!
grin

Take electric power for example:
After ceaseless "privatisation and Discos there and there".... we are yet to see a single private investor who has contributed just half of what the previous NEPA/ECN contributed to the National grid.

All we have are pockets of micro-power generators that are made to specifically power a single project!
Only the Federal Govt can build a substantial Power station of say 3,000MW in one go
All these noise about foreign investors coming-in over the years, ...is a SCAM

As for "WHAT", with a large population of almost 180Million, we should focus more on our "internal markets and consumption".
When we build a Refinery, l am sure there would be no shortage of consumption for the output, within Nigeria.
Our problem lies in trying to export "Unprocessed, raw material goods", from Cocoa, to Coffeee, to Crude oil, to Bitumen, e.t.c.

Raw Materials cost less, are subject to buyer's manipulation of the markets and does not add much value to the producer's economy.

On "Where", l think the best option is to build such refinery close to the source of "raw material"..... which means in the South South.

But there us an "element of caution" here:
With the Ibos playing "spoilers' and trying to annexe the Niger Delta into their Biafra project, l bet anyone who is President would think twice before putting all the nation's resources in one area! ... just in-case the unexpected happens.

This is why you see a refinery in Kaduna and the raw material have to be transported "uneconomically" through pipes, all the way to the refinery, from down South.
That is just the REALITY and we should not deceive ourselves thinking those who make such decisions are "not guided" properly. undecided
The last Civil war instigated by these same Easterners, was an eye-opener.

Finally, Oil Blocs are no longer peculiar to a particular region of Nigeria though some are more "economically viable" than others.
Moreso, the price of Oil and the future of Oil as a major export earner is increasingly under threat and as such, it may finally be a non-variable in the balance of power equation, in not too distant future
