1. The problem was, as you said, Yoruba land was divided. For a united Yoruba land...Aare Latosisa would have had to fight a unification war (like they did in Japan in the 17th century) and then find ways to start modernising. Fast.

2. Japan had had some exposure to European ideas before the Americans came in 1850's....so they had a base to start on. Yoruba land did not have that advantage much.

3. Japan was also not very resource rich. And the Europeans were more interested in the bigger price of China.

e).Be ready to accept foreign advisiors who would help with the development.

All in all, Yorubaland did not have those advantages.

The Japanese still fought a civil war in the nineteenth century. Then we could say the Yoruba were as integrated with the west as was Japan. Written script was not a problem, there was Ajami already for centuries and the Latin script was already copied. Everything is copy and paste then you improve upon it

The 1999 constitution is faulty especially in the distribution of states which determines equity in government but the real issue that will remain if that is solved is that it is better for ethnic groups to be sovereign over their lands. We don't need a government in Nigeria that speaks English. Let every group take their land and align it as they wish. Nigeria could work but it will be as an English speaking country and that is not good enough. We are not English people.

Any government depending on handouts for survival is a lazy government. Only Rivers and Lagos are exempted. If Norway of five million is not depending on their oil then shame on the state governors in Nigeria except Rivers and Lagos.

At the end, it's all about the resources. The Germans missed out on a lot of good african land because Bismarck decided they should focus on Europe, not Africa. BY the time they woke up, it was too too late.

So, at the end, if not the British, the French. There were no African polities like the Thais and the Japanese who had leaders that were ready to modernize at short notice. (Maybe King Gezo, but even then). Maybe even the Portugeese or the Spanish. Or Germans.

If not for the Yoruba civil war which led to the Yoruba elite calling in the British to intervene, the Yoruba would have emerged like Japan. There were leaders like Aare Latosisa of Ibadan and etc. They would seek for help from all over to bring the country to be at par with others. The British were in Lagos already but were not interested in seizing control of Yoruba land by force and if they had tried to do it, a united Yoruba could stop them not to talk of the fact that the. Yoruba can get help from US, Russia, Brazil and etc. A united Yoruba land could have united the majority of Nigeria too under a different name. There was no valid reason for the USSR to break up. The fall of Soviet communism is not a good enough reason. They built things together and they should have stayed together. If an event can not be justified, then it should always be reversed as much as possible. The war between Ukraine and Russia is a war between brothers. They should end it and negotiate a new Soviet Union that will include all the breakaway republics and other like people. The constitution and indeed all constitutions should allow any federating unit to opt out at anytime. A new Soviet Union will reduce operating costs for the members. The same applies to the Germanic lands in Europe, Scandinavia and etc. It also applies to North America. I believe Ukraine can agree to reunite with Russia and other nations that broke away from the USSR if the caveat is there that any unit can leave the union anytime. There are many Mexicans in the USA as well as many US citizens in Mexico and the second language of the USA is Spanish while Mexicans like everybody in the world learn English. Canada too is similar to the USA in organization. The best way forward for the three nations of North America in a new world is to forge a new nation together based on the English language principally and others. The only advantage in having many nations on Earth is the same advantage of a free market economy. It is that a unit will soon come up with something everybody will learn from and there will still be many nations as UN members even after an economic code of conduct has been agreed upon leading to one less front to fight on for nation builders. Nigeria and even India may need to break up so that ethnic nationalities can align along the line of affinity and language. There should be as many unions and as many divisions as are needed to make everybody comfortable. If a minority is within a sovereign nation, they should be encouraged to preserve their local language while aligning with the national language.
The consolidation of land also applies to the Yoruba and Hausa in west Africa who have their lands and people split between different countries as a legacy of colonization. There are a number of other cases across the world but the rule should be that ethnic groups are corporate individuals and should be treated as such.

There is no law that says the tenant should stay in a property free for any length of time. Landlords only leave tenants because rent after notice is difficult to collect but it can be collected by a court order. Write your tenant that you are not leaving any rent for them and since they are playing you you can increase the rent. The court can allow you to take your money by force which may even not be necessary if the tenant is gainfully employed. They will sign an undertaking and pay.

Zamfara on the rise

The Zamfara state administration led by Governor Lawal now has the greatest resolve in the country for development. They have moved up from number 36 to number 26 in IGR within one year. The IGR rose from 90 million maria to over one billion naira per month. However the main revenue source to be tapped is PAYE and Zamfara needs to concentrate on this. Lagos started from Landuse but their highest income source is now PAYE despite that they are not collecting up to ten percent of what can be collected in Lagos..
Zamfara has around six million people giving them the potential of more than one quarter of Lagos. All they need to do is to make their own minimum wage law and enforce it on all employers of labor from one person up. They have an ambitious budget which they seemingly have no means of funding but I see them meeting up within some years. There is no land without high net worth individuals who are employers of labor and the job of government is to assist them and tax mainly their workers and them to lift everybody within the economic space up with living wages, good education and healthcare. Japan started with taxing rice production. They took tax in rice from farmers and sold the rice in the markets to raise government revenue and then intervene in the economy and within decades the country came to be at par with western Europe. The economy of Zamfara is largely agrarian for now and you must adapt to whatever is your condition. They need to tax the farmers and assist them to increase production. It maybe easier for now to take produce from them than to ask them for money.
Any land only appear poor because of a lack of organization. Once hands are joined together, there will be money to increase the quality of life for everybody. Very rich countries are not doing anything more than tax everybody and use the money to help everybody.
Then they need to set up a militia to do their part in ending banditry. A private family or even an individual can employ guards or contract security to a company, therefore Zamfara can create a militia to put an and to banditry within their borders. It will be hard, given the energy and resources of the bandits or insurgents but it can be done.
I believe if all income earners are captured into the tax net, the revenue can rise by more than one thousand percent within the next few months. The GDP of the state is said to be over five billion dollars and twenty percent of that can be netted with.taxation for a start quite easily with efficient tax collection. They should not also forget to set up an investment company when the money is flowing in.
With resolve and drive, Zamfara can do over one billion dollars in revenue this year from their five billion dollars GDP. If they manage it, they will become an immigrant worker destination within Nigeria. Government spending will be a magnet for immigrants.
It used to be Katrina in the Northwest but Zamfara is now the leader in resolve.
Once everything is kick started, employers of labor will be sending in their monies by themselves as is the case in highly organized nations and even in Lagos.

What do the Yoruba have to show in the modern era for their 10066 year calendar?.

The biggest progress in the modern era is the invention of the corporate model of doing business which occurred in England. The British were copied by their neighbors in Europe and later by the rest of the world.

The Yoruba were colonized by the British starting from 1897 but it was on invitation to end a civil war and not by force. The last Yoruba state to come under the British were the Egba and they did so voluntarily in 1914 as they had already become a dot surrounded by the British empire.

The company also went into other places not within their jurisdiction to buy west African produce cash from their farmers without it being a joint venture. They thereby had good deals for the farmers and the whole western state of Nigeria back then. It only applied to farm produce in high demand in the international market which makes it different from some modern produce boards in places like Canada and etc. There was no problem with the arrangement so far the sharing formula was adhered to.

Hire Purchase
The first people to introduce the Hire purchase system which is now common all over the world are merchants from the Yoruba subgroup called the Ijesa. They introduced the system and controlled it for centuries in west Africa. It was called Osomaalo. Hire purchase is a system of acquiring property you can not immediately afford and paying for it at a higher cost from your cash flow. The innovation is as popular all over the world as the corporate model of doing business invented in England.

Universal healthcare and compulsory education.

The western region of Nigeria is among the first governments on Earth to have compulsory government funded education and healthcare.

The Yoruba are currently tied down in Nigeria which has become a failed British experiment because of ethnic rivalry and British neo colonialism.

Financial inclusion in third world countries.

Many people do not run bank accounts regularly in third world countries because the bulk of the economy is informal. They often have no need to visit banks. People will not have access to credit and the loose credit of the country may have to be looking for consumers abroad even when the local economy is lying prostrate.
A way to tackle this is to make it compulsory for all wages to be paid into a bank account and it should be compulsory for all employers to comply, no matter the number of employees. This can greatly expand the financial sector in a country because the banks will have more business. There is no way the financial sector can help the economy optimally if people earning income have no relationship with banks. If you have a relationship with banks, you will have access to credit and such credit can be used as venture capital which will help the economy grow and develop.
The institutions playing the role of banks by offering credit to small business owners in a place like western Nigeria are cooperative societies but wage earners are not bound by law to be members of cooperative societies. The economy will benefit more if all employers are bound by law to pay wages into a current account.

Hopefully we will see an end to the invasive Christianity and Islam very soon.

Why high taxes are important.

Reducing the minimum wage so that people don't need to pay tax is not how to build a country. Taxation is the only means of building a civilization and the higher the tax rate and the wider the tax net, the more successful the civilization. What needs to be the policy is that the lowest wage should be high enough above poverty and also be able to bear high tax. Once you excuse the mass of the people from paying tax as Nigeria is trying to do with the tax reform bill, you have also sentenced them to poverty. The government needs a lot of money to intervene in many areas, therefore high taxation is the best. Once the tax is uniform, it will just be as if nobody is paying it since everybody is paying it and the state will be a welfare state.
The government needs a lot of money to support a welfare state and even to invest in the economy for profit. Take Norway for instance, the government has invested 1.8 trillion dollars in business all over the world yet they still have billionaire per capita for their five million population country higher than the USA. It means government participation in the economy will not crowd out the individual entrepreneurs in any nation that follows the Norway model.

When there is low taxes or when collection efficiency is low, the government will be forced to turn to inflating the currency or money printing as a source of revenue. This is why nations without personal income tax collection always feature high inflation.

I partially agree with you with the language thing. I am from Ife in Kogi (different from Iffe you mentioned). But note that all you wrote has not validated Okun as yoruba. We definitely have a link with yoruba like many other ethnic group within and outside Kogi but that doesn't make them Yoruba. Note finally that Okun are yet to be formally accepted by Yoruba land as Yoruba. Some group in Okun are agitating for the inclusion.

How to protect the Yoruba language

If Yoruba parents are speaking English at home to their kids, the government should cover up or respond by making sure Yoruba is spoken to the children at the schools.
If the Israeli government can wake up Hebrew from a near dead status and make it a living language today spoken by millions, then all governments have no excuse not to do the needful to make sure the Earth languages within their jurisdiction do not disappear.

Happy new year 2025. It will be a good year for us all by the grace of God especially for the people led by Barbara Bush junior who voluntarily joined my effort to change Nigeria and the world that started in 2000 when I was an undergraduate. It started with a poem the same year I unknowingly entered the radar of the US government. May this year bring the fruit we are looking for.

Tax is the cost of a great nation. In Lagos, companies pay their PAYE into the state account and keep the receipt for the LIRS to come and check. If they are not compliant or up to date, they get locked up.

The quest for a new order.

There have been attempts by some people to blame the wealthy class for the cost of living crisis in western nations but the system, especially the free market is to blame and not individuals and this is not to say the free market is a bad system. On the overall, there is no alternative to the free market.
The economies of western nations is seriously inflated as a result of a runaway cost of rent and value of real estate. The resultant effect of this is that wages, while trying to keep up with rent has become astronomically high and the whole economy is inflated as a result. The wages, despite being astronomically high by the standards of low income countries, is not enough to cover the cost of living for many workers in the west. In the western world, someone with majority shares in a company employing one hundred people who would be worth only ten million dollars in a place like Haiti, Nigeria or Ethiopia is instead worth over one hundred million dollars because of the high rent induced inflated economy while the people at the base of wages bear the brunt. The economy of the west is also bleeding jobs because local wages in the west has made the majority of manufacturing not competitive. The jobs left in the country are mainly those that can not be exported or outsourced and a few others.
The status quo presently in the west is that the wealthy people can afford up to ten times what their equivalents by number of employees under them in low income countries can afford while the people at the base of income are struggling with homelessness.
Another undesired status quo in the west is that the agriculture sector can not exist without heavy government subsidies while this is not the case in low income countries. If the agriculture is not heavily aided, the people will pay through their noses for food as they do for rent and mortgage.
We need a uniform economic code of conduct on Earth because we are in the same market. For instance, if low income countries did not exist, manufacturing jobs would stay in high income countries and the harm being caused to the economy by the real estate sector in the west would hardly be noticed. It would hardly be noticed that people are paying more than one hundred times what they should be paying for rent and mortgage. The existence of low income countries have therefore highlighted the fault in the structure of high income countries. There is a need to even everything out. It is not the fall of the free market but a restructuring that is needed.
