PoliticsThe Globe And The Sovereignty Of Nations by lawani(op): 5:30am On Feb 14, 2022
Sovereignty is very important even for individuals not to talk of whole nations, if someone is the owner of something, maybe a business or anything no matter how small that thing may be, you don't go there to impose someone or something on him or her because there can not be two captains in a boat. Government can impose on every legal entity specific operating procedures and the UN should in turn do that for all nations after a mutual agreement at the appropriate levels.

The UN must state clearly a 'minimum' of how an independent state should be run.

1. All workers must receive wages into bank accounts acknowledged by government and from which a minimum agreed upon percentage will be taken as income tax.

2 Nobody should earn income under the table without being taxed because this is what makes large economies seem small. People earn income high enough to build a mansion in two years while working in the informal sector in unorganized nations.

3 The UN must find a way to make sure that the natural resources of the Earth not earned or worked for by anyone like fresh water, oil, gas as well as the resources in the vast oceans etc are appropriated in a way that no one is left without. These resources should be classed separately and appropriated by the United Nations. Any resource should be able to be moved into this class by general agreement once someone is able to point out why.

4. Any one should be able to move to any country to go and find work since workers will be the source of revenue for the government in a well organized world. It is only if the globe is not uniformly organized that you need to control immigration. National passports should only be to update national data base. Before the industrial era, different empires sought more people and lands by means of war and diplomacy. We should return to that but without wars. We should use only diplomacy and stop when it has failed.

6 The UN should encourage that all the languages and cultures of the world be preserved and kept in constant use.

For nations

1. Everybody should be deemed equal. Give the same space and respect to your President as you would to your driver.

2 The revenue from any place where more than one person is working should not be under the unrestricted control of any one person whether or not he or she is the sole owner of the business because not all entrepreneurs understand that workers rank above shareholders.

3. All resources in a nation belong to the nation and by extension the whole world. This includes businesses, workers and etc. Ownership by human beings should be nominal and merely for accounting purposes.

4Etc.
Nairaland GeneralThe Right Of First Refusal by lawani(op): 9:25am On Feb 02, 2022
If you are the first to seriously have an idea or want something, then you have the legal right to that thing which is effectively like a patent. It may be a business idea, marriage proposal, social reform idea, political party and etc. Nothing can stop you from getting that thing unless you by yourself stop yourself, especially if there is no valid reason for you not to have that thing you have decided to have. You will have that thing because it is legally yours. It holds true for everything but on the surface, it appears as if a man or woman with more resources can stop another with less say in a place like Ilesa Nigeria, a billionaire can stop a civil servant while the Nigerian President can stop the billonaire. A random billionaire from India or China can stop the Nigerian President using the power of his government and a retired US President can stop everybody with the power of the US government. It appears like that but in actual fact, only you yourself can stop yourself. No one can stop you from the outside with whatever resources that they may have. Take Northern Nigeria for example, the most revered person to the masses there till date is the late Mallam Aminu Kano who is regarded as champion of the takakawa as against Ahmadu Bello who held political power as Premier and represented the establishment. There is nobody like Mallam Aminu Kano in Nigerian history with mass followership among millions of people despite having no real political power or government post ever save parliamentary position and post as minister in a military government while still being a major point of reference for millions of people. No means of spending money or manipulating people. He became leader by the sheer force of his character. He did not use money or other such resources to aid himself and no one was able to stop him or beat him to it . Nobody like Aminu Kano from Southern Nigeria for instance who got there and stayed there on such a large scale with sheer force of character and negligible finances. There are politicians with no money save integrity across the country and among them was my late Granddad who was the first Organising secretary of the AG, late Pa J O Lawanson and they all have followership in their own sphere and in their own right but nothing on the scale of the late Aminu Kano anywhere in the country. Pa Awo was successful as Premier of the West but Aminu Kano never got such an opportunity to serve but he probably has more mass appeal among the Hausa than Pa Awo has among the Yoruba despite not having led the Hausa politically.

It goes to show that no one can use any amount of resources to stop anyone from getting what they actually want for themselves or becoming what they have set their minds to become. Only you can stop yourself and if you are the first to have a plan, you have an exclusive right to that plan or what can be called a right of 'first refusal'.
PoliticsNigerian Oil Money And Taxes by lawani(op): 12:58pm On Oct 11, 2020
In Osun State for example, there are over one million people with income who can pay tax, there are also definitely around one million real estates that can pay tenement rate but the state depends on federal allocations. If you hand over Osun State to a developed nation like Germany or Britain to manage, the first task will be to bring into the tax net all these workers and properties, they will not depend on federal oil money. This is the story of all Nigerian states save Lagos. How can such potential revenue sources be left to waste?. It is totally against common sense. If we want to be developed, we must organise our nation like it obtains in developed nations. The number one asset of a nation are the income earners that can pay income tax, number two is the real estate under use, followed by other sources. Nigeria's oil money should be a bonus and not the main thing as is obtainable presently.

PoliticsMinimum Wage And Nation Building. by lawani(op): 11:44am On Sep 16, 2020
In industrialized nations, minimum wage is an amount imposed on all employers of labor by government. No employer of labor may pay less to any worker. Minimum wage is always high enough that income tax deduction will leave enough to live on. In organised and formalized economies, the higher the minimum wage the higher the government revenue from income taxes. It is not like that in Nigeria where only the government and a few other players in the economy pay the minimum wage because the majority of the economy is disorganised and informal. Minimum wage in Nigeria takes money out of the hands of government by way of wages of civil servants but increases government revenue in formalized and organised economies. The way out is to formalize and organise all national economies so that an increase in statutory minimum wage will always lead to an increase in government revenue from income taxes. This is the beginning of nation building.
PoliticsAn Even Globe. by lawani(op): 11:54am On Sep 15, 2020
Wherever you turn, wherever you go, in the world, you meet the same high level of organisation and taxation. This is where the world should be headed. Similar minimum wages. The more the workers in your economy, the more your government revenue. China will be the biggest government by revenue followed by India. There would be no first world/third world dichotomy anymore and development would be even.

PoliticsBecoming An Immigrant Worker Destination. by lawani(op): 11:27am On Sep 03, 2020
There are not many immigrant worker destination nations on the globe. The largest immigrant worker destination is the United States of America, we also have Germany, United Kingdom, Canada and etc. They are all formalized economies where it is almost impossible to be working under the table or to avoid paying taxes. The government's budget is funded majorly by income tax paid by workers. The minimum wage in these nations is statutorily fixed to be so high that paying income tax will be easy for workers. Therefore workers from all over tend to migrate to these nations to work because of the high minimum wages. It is easy for a nation to become an immigrant worker destination, all that is needed is for the interior ministry or home office to increase minimum wage. With a good plan, any nation can become an immigrant worker destination.
PoliticsRe: Oil Revenue - The Great Deceiver Of Nigerians by lawani(m): 1:22pm On Aug 30, 2020
The economy is diversified as it is, since oil is less than 5 percent of the economy. It is government that should diversify it's revenue source. This can be done by imposing a taxable minimum wage on all employers of labor. We need to organise ourself.

PoliticsGod And Communism by lawani(op): 6:09pm On Aug 29, 2020
God wants us to practice communism, a system where no one is left behind, where a job and a taxable income is guaranteed everyone. There will be high net worth individuals but only after everyone has had the basic necessities of life and not before. Communism is about affording everyone the basic necessities of life with no one left behind or without. We are all God's children. He is the father of all.

Impose a taxable minimum wage on all businesses and the businesses will become a revenue source for the government. There won't be any need to close down foreign owned businesses.

Lmao grin OK. To answer your question..

One of the biggest streets, probably the biggest in Idumota quarters of Lagos is Ereko Street. There is also the Ọjà Ereko in Lagos.
Outside Lagos State, there is Ereko in Ijebu Ode and Ibafo

Please note that the term "Lagos" refers to
I. A state
II. A metropolitan city within the state that has kept expanding
III. A part of the city on the Island traditionally called Ereko.
All 3 are called Eko or Lagos

So when I say just "Lagos" I'm not talking about the state or modern metropolitan area.

See screenshot below of the districts within the initial boundary of the City in the 19th century before all this modern Lagos State expansion
-----

I can ask you same question.

If Èkó means Camp and was named by Bini, why are there no other places named by the Bini called Eko?
Don't forget that one of the European texts shared on this thread mentioned clearly that Bini do not call Lagos Eko but Kurame
there is a place in osun called eko ende. Google it.

Foreign AffairsNorway Is My Favorite Nation. by lawani(op): 5:01pm On Jul 20, 2020
Norway has 5 million people and it produces the highest oil per capita outside the Middle East. Oil production is around 20 percent of GDP. Income tax is almost 50 percent of income and there is a budget surplus every year which goes to the trillion dollar Norwegian sovereign wealth fund. If the USA were being run like Norway, the USA will have a sovereign wealth fund worth over 50 trillion dollars and not the 20 trillion dollar deficit the US currently has. Norway has many national companies and may be described as a free market communist state.
