Romance › Re: The First Surprise Birthday I've Ever Gotten by LEGALSER: 8:55pm On Jul 07, 2021 |
aboyaji: Hello Nairalanders!
I'd like to write on the surprise birthday I got from the people (my girlfriend and her sister) that love me dearly.
On the 2nd of July, I got a call from my engineer friend who lives in my former place of residence. He had informed me in the morning of a real estate deal ( I am into real estate too). He stressed that he visited my new place the penultimate day which was on the first of July and he'd like me to come over to his place in the evening for more information. I replied in the affirmative and dropped the call.
Fast forward to the evening, I came back then dropped off at a friend's shop who sells footwears by 4 through 6pm. Shortly after, my girlfriend and her sister strolled passed the vicinity where I was. They told me they were on their way home to prepare rice and that this time there's little funds and high cost of food stuffs in the market that the rice would be a red oil rice and they were inviting me over for a RED OIL RICE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION in their home. I smiled and bade them bye.
That was when I remembered my business meeting with my engineer friend. I strolled to his place in a long sleeve shirt and shorts with bathroom flipflops.
Arrive this friend's apartment, we talked over the deal with inclusion of another friend of his before he asked me to follow him to SOMEWHERE.
I told them that my birthday was that same day and I wasn't celebrating anything. He laughed at me and his girlfriend chased me down with pure water.
I came back and wore my flipflops and offer we left for the SOMEWHERE. We strolled through some streets and gardens and towards Dunamis Church. I thought we were going to pray since he wasn't precise about the place we were headed. Suddenly, we passed the church. In all the walkabouts, we were engaged in serious unending gists. From Nigeria problems to Donald Trump wahala and all before we found ourselves inside a hotel.
He asked me to wait for him that he was looking for someone and in my mind, that should be the client for the real estate business. He checked and came back and suggested we had a seat for a while and wait.
We patiently waited and had our phones charged. I wrote some stories while we waited and he read it and shared his insights too. Then I saw my girlfriend walk past us and into somewhere I didn't know. I became uneasy. Shortly, I rose and confirmed what my eyes saw but met her sister there too. A little while, his own fiancé came and met us and sat patiently too.
Then I told my friend that I saw my girlfriend in this hotel and said maybe they came to see a family friend. But on a normal, she would tell where and who was taking them out beforehand. But this time, NOTHING OF SUCH.
My friend said maybe she has explanation to make later. Maybe, it came as emergency and no airtime. I said Yes, it could be the fact.
8:00pm my friend received a call and asked for us to go home that the person wasn't coming anymore. I unplugged my phone and off we made out. Then, he said he'd like to check something around the pool side in the hotel. I followed him....
Immediately I advanced into the arena... There was a chorused scream and shout of HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Guys, my head literally BURST into bits. All the friends I have were in attendance. All... Men and female alike.
So, he knew all along... Something I never envisaged... Something I hadn't experienced... Something I least expected from my girlfriend and her sister because they are barely managing their low income. You see that knife on the cake? The day you jilt this babe, it will be one of the murder weapons Congrats and enjoy your relationship |

Politics › Re: Governor Wike Lifts State Wide Curfew in Rivers State by LEGALSER: 8:06pm On Jul 06, 2021 |
coins501: The Rivers State governor has reviewed the State wide curfew in Rivers State. In a Statewide broadcast by the Governor today 6th JULY 2021. The governor addressed the State thus
"My dear people of Rivers State 1 In response to the security breaches and premeditate attacks and killing of security officers in some of our neighboring States by gunmen we imposed a night-time curfew on our land borders with other States on the 28th of April 2021.
2. Following the premediated attack and killing of some security personnel in Abua and Ikwerre Local Government Areas by gunmen, we were forced to impose a statewide curfew from 10.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m.
3. On the 11th of May 2021, the gunmen defied the existing curfew and carried out yet another murderous attack and killing of some security personnel in the State. This prompted the review of the statewide curfew from 7.00 pm to 6.00 a.m.
4. Then, on the 16th of May 2021 the existing curfew timeframe was readjusted to 8.30 p.m. to 6.00 a.m. for Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas only. 5. As we have reiterated severally, we understand the extremity of these measures, especially their negative impact on business and the social-economic wellbeing of the State and its residents.
6. However, in taking these measures, our primary concern and interest was and still remains the security of the State and no sacrifice or price can be said to too much to endure for the preservation of lives and property.
7. And as we have severally stated, the curfew is not going to last a day beyond necessary.
8. Consequently, sequel to the measurable improvements in the security situation in the State as well as in our neighbouring States, we have decided to lift the existing curfew on the entire State from tomorrow 7th July 2021.
9. While we thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this trying period, we must all remain security conscious and report any suspicious situation to the security agencies for action.
10. On our part, we will not fail to deploy every resource at our disposal to ensure the safety of lives and property while advancing the wellbeing of all residents.
11. This is the very reason we are clearing the State of shanties that have become veritable sanctuaries for criminals and criminal activities across the State. Clearly, our actions in this direction are not directed or targeted at any particular person, identity or group.
12. Once again, thank you all for your support, prayer and solidarity as we continue to work together to keep Rivers State safe and secure for all.
13. Thank you and may God bless Rivers State." He should lift the embargo placed on employment. Nobody has heard anything about the 5,000 jobs since November last year e don fly Over? |

Update
Is been a crazy year, I never imagined I will found myself in a crazy situation like this. Kennedy used to be my best friend right from when we were little. We attended the same nursery, primary, secondary and university together. We are like family friends and attend the same church. You can't see Kennedy those days without me. While he was the aggressive one, I was gentle on the other hand, I use to see him as my guiding angel lol, because you'll never hurt me and go free because Kennedy will come looking for you. A girl have once accused us of being gay lovers because we are always together once lectures are over in school and we stay in the same hostel although different rooms.
My family especially my mum don't joke with Kennedy. He's so loved and cheerised in my house, same goes to his family.
Will never forget the day you fought on my behalf after I got myself into trouble even while I was wrong, you stood by me, I did same sacrifices for you as well.
The first ever clash we ever had was because of Esther, a truth or dare game turned to a fighting competition. Lol, I secretly enjoy the fight because that was the first time you will ever have issue or argument/disagreement with me.
Fast forward to 2017, during nysc that's when I realised Kennedy was dealing with the wrong girl, but then I couldn't stand his heart break once again. He is unlucky with woman and always get broken easily, infact the last one was brutal, I couldn't stand my OG drinking and crying like a baby. Took me ages to talk and take him out of depression, even while being aggressive, Kennedy is emotional and softhearted.
October 2020, I mad the worst mistake accommodating his fiancee and on 1st February he made attempt on my life, many people lash at me because they don't know how close I am to Kennedy, and I am 100% sure their advise worked because Kennedy talk less and do more. He's a good listener
Kennedy ndia amagi ebe anyi isinabia ko ka anyi si we kwado, that have always been your favorite Igbo slang, sad it doesn't matter again
On April 9th, I had a brutal fight with Kennedy, I never believed he could ambush me with his friends and I was disfigured so badly, with the help of my family is been from one sugary to the other, I hope to be normal again one day, my fine boy is gone, I have scares on my face or might even remain on a wheelchair forever all because of a woman.... Writing from an Indian hospital, I would've post pictures but I don't wanna reveal my identity.
Kennedy (offorken) stop running, I have forgiven already, God willing I will bounce back stronger and better.
Please becareful of friends who claims to be neutral, is either they are working against you secretly or wanna pull you down out of jealousy, Ruggednoy01(kachi) is example. YOUR FRIEND CAN EITHER BE FOR YOU OR AGAINST YOU period
Ruggedboy01, you rushed to create, lol. You want me dead...... But God pass una https://www.nairaland.com/6430308/update-best-friend-tried-kill#99357374 God in heaven knows I won't forgive any man who does this to me because of a woman, While i am recovering in the hospital, infact on hearing this, guy men go done remove you self. Senseless set of guys, attacking a fellow guy because of a girl you aren't even Married to and you aren't even sure if you are the main boyfriend. Some of you guys that forgive after being attacked I dont know how you do it, as hes running upandan that's how men who know how to run upandan will get hold of him. Idiots |
Politics › Re: Buhari At 78: If Only We Knew This President by LEGALSER: 4:25am On Dec 17, 2020 |
murecool: Ask for a President beleaguered from all sides, and I’ll show you Muhammadu Buhari, the ramrod straight man from Daura, in Katsina State, who turns 78 today.
In the build up to the 2015 presidential election, we used to say everything had been thrown at him as projectiles, except the kitchen sink. Permit me to update that expression. Today, everything possible has been thrown at President Buhari, including the kitchen sink. Anything. Everything. Fake news. Hate speech. Lies. False propaganda. Evil thoughts. Malediction. Odium. Opprobrium. Ogbunigwe. Ogulutu.Surface to air missiles. All offensive weapons. But the man trudges on. Calmly, sedately, peacefully.
If only more Nigerians knew this President. If only they knew the essential Buhari, the quintessential patriot and gentleman, they would behave differently, handle him with more care, and show him more kindness. Yes, everyone needs kindness, even Presidents.
Remember that song by Mary Mc Kee and The Genesis? You’ve got to try a little kindness Yes, show a little kindness Just shine your light for everyone to see And if you try a little kindness Then you’ll overlook the blindness Of narrow-minded people, on narrow-minded streets.
Too many people have chosen to believe the wrong things about President Buhari, and have ossified their minds against the truth. But then, those of us who have had the privilege to work with him, studied and known him at close quarters, have a duty to tell what we have seen. And what better day to do it, than on his birthday.
Oh, he eats from the President. What else would he say than to sing his praises. True? False. If need be, I will serve this President for free. I consider it a great privilege to serve a man I admire. Even gratis.
Somebody commented that a blitzkrieg has been launched against Buhari and the government he leads, from all quarters. Some elements in the media, human rights groups, so-called activists, NGOs, Boko Haram, ISWAP, all at once. But is Buhari the loser? Not at all. It’s the country that ultimately loses, just as Eric Donaldson sang in ‘Little Did You Know:’ You think that you are hurting me But little did you know you are only hurting yourself Little did you know you are only hurting yourself.
In about two years and five months, with God being merciful as He always is, President Buhari will land safely, and retire to Daura for a well-deserved retirement at 80. And if those engineering distraction against his government continue, it is the country that would have lost. A great deal.
What are the things some people hurl against the President, which shows that they don’t know him at all?
He’s a religious bigot. Really? I’ve not seen a scintilla of evidence in the past five years. Every Christmas and Easter holiday, he calls those of us who are Christians, working with him, and asks us to stay off work, and enjoy the season with our families. That’s not the way of bigots, who would never acknowledge any religion, except their own.
As a military commander, history has it that Buhari would always give soldiers working under him time to go for worship on Sunday mornings, just as he did to the Muslims on Fridays. Yet, bigot, bigot, some people continue to shout.
He’s a Fulani, he rears cows, and all Fulani herdsmen are criminals, that’s why he tolerates them. Really? Some people even say all Fulani are herdsmen, whether they see them with cattle or not. Truth is; every ethnic stock has its deviants, its criminal elements. You can’t just demonize all Fulani, simply because you want to excoriate the President. Did he choose to be born Fulani? Did I choose to be born Yoruba, and did the Ishan, Idoma or Ijaw man choose the ethnic stock he wanted to be born into? It’s a biological accident. You have nothing to do with it. A man then doesn’t go repudiating where he comes from, simply because some people have decided to tar his people with the brush of infamy.
He’s nepotistic. A common refrain, but non-scientific. About three years ago, we did a scientific exercise. We chronicled all the appointments made by the President since 2015, and allocated them to states and regions. The result showed that the Southwest had the largest share. Followed by Imo and Kano states. Then Edo and Katsina. And on and on. But the naysayers ignored facts and figures, and stuck to their false narratives. Nepotism.
One day, the President had given me an appointment to announce in the early days of the administration. By then, some people had started talking of northernisation agenda. So I said, “Mr President, this is the murmur we hear. Why don’t you consider giving this position to another part of the country?”
He looked at me calmly, smiled, and said: “If a search has been conducted for a position, and someone has been thrown up as the best candidate. And I then bypass him because of where he comes from, or because of his religion, haven’t I been unfair to that person?”
Food for thought, indeed.
This is Jubril from Sudan and not Muhammadu Buhari, who had died during the medical vacation in 2017, some people say. You have a clone in Aso Villa, not Buhari. Idiocy, sadly believed by even some intellectuals.
Let me tell you a story. On the day the President finally returned to the country in August 2017, after months of absence, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Abayomi Olonisakin, was giving out his daughter in marriage. I had attended the church service, decked unusually in complete Agbada, with cap to match. From the wedding, I went straight to the airport to join the reception party.
We formed a welcome line, as we usually do. And as the President shook each person, he had one wisecrack or the other to say. When he got to me, he took my hand and said: “Adesina, this is the best I’ve seen you dressed.” We both laughed heartily, and the television cameras captured it. I remember that many people asked me later what had tickled me and the President, that we laughed so uproariously.
Jubril from Sudan? Would he know my name as Adesina? Would he know I rarely wear Agbada? How ridiculous can some people be?
Another story. The journalist Lindsay Barret had been a long time friend of the President. One day, he sent me to give his greetings. When I did, the President said: “Lindsay Barret. I remember meeting him at the war front in 1968. He was covering the war. There was a day he was almost killed in an ambush, and he then described himself as a ‘devout coward,’ who was lucky to be alive.”
Jubril of Sudan? And he remembers Barret, whom he met at the warfront in 1968? Tell it to the marines.
Ask me for a loyal man, who never forgets a good turn, and I’ll show you Muhammadu Buhari. Among the last class of Ambassadors, he had personally picked Justice George Oguntade, who was sent to United Kingdom, and Justice Sylvester Nsofor, who he deployed to America. The latter died only last week, aged 85.
How did the two men gain the favour, loyalty and respect of the President? In his many legal battles after disputed election results in 2003, and 2007, they had given dissenting judgements at both the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, nullifying the election results, saying Candidate Buhari had been cheated. The man never forgot, and sought them out in due time. The same also happened to some of us working with him today.
A kind man. I have lots of stories to tell, but let me restrict myself to a few. In December 2015, I had lost my elder sister, a Professor of Dramatic Arts, in an auto crash. While I was crying like a wailing wailer, who was on the phone, consoling and condoling with me? Muhammadu Buhari.
And before he became President, when my mother passed on in 2013, and we had a commendation service for her in Lagos, who flew in all the way from Kaduna to attend? Muhammadu Buhari. He sat through the Christian service. Yet, they say he’s a bigot. I hear. Bigot from Sudan.
And in January 2017, I was to receive the traditional title of Nwanne di Namba of Mmaku Kingdom, in Enugu State. Courtesy demanded I tell the President. This man, who prides himself as ‘very stingy’ gave me a handsome amount of money to ferry my friends and family to the ceremony. How much? I won’t tell you, lest you ask for a belated share.
And in May 2018, I was billed for China for a 12 days course for senior government officials from Africa. He said when the journey was two days away, I should come to see him. I did. You know what he said? “Adesina, I know that you don’t have money. But you are too shy to ask.” We both laughed, and he gave me an envelope which contained foreign currency. How much? You think I’ll tell you? For where?
This President is a patriot. He loves this country dearly. A man of personal discipline. Single minded about the infrastructural development of the country. And he’s succeeding at it. I have loads of stories to tell to justify each virtue. But time and space won’t permit.
However, let me tell this final one, as told to me by a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army.
He said he was a Major at the Second Mechanized Division, Ibadan, when the then Major General was posted there in early 1983, as General Officer Commanding.
There was a cocktail reception, billed for 8 pm. Fifteen minutes to the time, the new GOC walked briskly in. Only a sprinkle of officers had arrived. He moved round the venue, surveying the place, and at the dot of 8 pm, with the hall still scanty, he went to the gate, and directed the sergeant-major on duty to lock the inner one firmly, admitting nobody. Nobody. Yes sir! The GOC went back inside, held the cocktail with the few officers available. Event over, he went back to the gate, to see the battery of latecomer officers huddled there. He surveyed them, and then instructed: All of you, see me in the office tomorrow by 8 am. Yes sir! The GOC walked briskly away. And you know what? As early as 6 am next day, most of the officers had reported in his office. Once bitten, twice shy.
