Cool. Make Tinubu sha no remove subsidy on electricity too.

Even if it gulps 1trillion, just let the subsidy remain.

All those nonsense economists that be been parroting subsidy removal since 20 years ago don see the effect subsidy removal can have on the average Nigerian.

So until we stabilize this fuel/forex subsidy removal issue, status quo should just remain on other one for now.

Credit must be given to TVC News Journalists' Hangout.

On Monday or Tuesday, Babajide Kolade-Otitoju blamed the President for not paying attention to the fact that 32 members of the reconstituted governing councils of universities came from Adamawa State alone, where the Minister of Education hails from. He further said other people submitted names that were disregarded.

Otitoju said federal character must be reflected so as not to give undue advantage to any state. Someone called into the programme to blame Gbajabiamila and NSA Ribadu, but the anchor cut him off.

If there is one thing about the Tinubu administration, it is that he listens and tries to be fair.

Babajide Kolade-Otitoju, if you ever read this, we are grateful that you used your programme to tell the president how it is. Continue that way.

Tinubu can’t review every list and that is exactly why we have a monster of education and this post originated from his office.

I’m glad Tinubu listens and call for a review to the list but it’s just sad that the minister had to make those kind of rookie mistake in the constitution of the list.

But we can’t continue like this where the president must review everything. Ministers should have some form of independence of thought and they should be allowed to function based on how they deem fit to direct their ministry. If they eventually do a big blunder, the president can step in and sack them.

But this one where a minister do something, people complain, president step in, change it again, and etc will reward bad behavior as some Nigerians will never agree to everything a minister does whether good or bad.

There should be something like this for Nigerians who want to further their education abroad. It will be a loan that will be repaid with a reasonable interest in the future.

If you want to apply for student loans outside Nigeria, all lending institutions expect you to get a significant fraction of the money from your home country and won't believe you if you tell them that your country doesn't offer such services.

The fact of the matter is, Nigerians travelling abroad to further their education (MBA, MSc and PhD) are more likely to repay their loans with interest faster than those taking student loans to study and remain in Nigeria.

By and large, this idea is commendable and noble!

Indians have something like that where they grant loan for people studying abroad. However, it is private run funding and they have alliance with most universities in USA and Canada to make sure students don’t just default after graduation.

I won’t advise FG to run that kind of loan. They will go broke the first year because Nigerians I know won’t even pay back so it’s better if private run agencies handle that.

NELFUND – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The Frequently Asked Questions below is our attempt to answer common questions that the applicants may have regarding the Students’ Higher Education Loan in a brief and easy-to-understand way.

1. What is the Students Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act, 2024?

3. Who administers the loans to the students?
The loans will be administered by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), which is the body established by law to carry out the day-to-day activities of the Fund. It is headed by a Managing Director, appointed by the President of Nigeria.

Kukutente23:

It is not true that the phenomenon with traditional institutions as experienced in Nigeria is the same all over the world. It is actually the other way round. Nigeria's case is an anomaly bequeathed to us by the British who subjugated the kings when they took control of the country through their system of indirect rule. It is an anomaly. All over the world, royal institutions are more ceremonial and divorced from govt functioning and control.
The traditional stools are under the LG by law. So why is the governor the appointing authority? You see the anomaly now?

What I am telling you is that around most places in the world, the monarchy itself have lost the power and they are either ceremonial, completely abandoned, or exist just like a figurehead in most countries except conservative states.

So @the bolded, I don’t like crying over spilled milk and like talking about the reality. Even if the British never bastardize our traditional state, so far we have the constitutional democracy that never give them ability to wield any power, things will still be like this.

Yes, they are under LG. That make them still answerable to a body. Even if our democracy is perfect, the LG chairman still have the power to depose them. So whether it is the governor misusing his power or LG misusing it, the fact still remain that the law left the loophole.

Rather, this is an abuse of politics and a legacy of the colonial govt.

The traditional stools should either be banned or removed from under the control of politicians.

This makes no sense

It is what it is. Traditional stools all around the world are losing their independence and command except in some extremely conservative countries.

So while it make no sense that a governor can just suddenly depose a king, the fact still remains that they are by law under the LG and that gives the politician the power to decide their existence.

They already destroyed it. They are just kings by title alone.

Just as Emir Sanusi got sanctuary in the West, they should provide him one abode to chill here too.

The deposed emir should accept his fate. In the next 4 years, if the ancestors favor him, he could return back to the throne.

Politics / Tinubu Inaugurate ₦‎8.3bn Sub-station In Ondo After 15 Years Without Electricity by LegendHero(m): 6:03pm On May 23
President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday inaugurated a 132kv transmission line and a 132kv/33kv substation worth N8.3 billion at Ode-Erinje in Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State, ending 15 years of power outage.

Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Niger Delta Development, Engr Abubakar Momoh, stated that the project is a part of the Federal Government’s initiative to promote sustainable development in the Niger Delta region.

He mentioned that the current administration is committed to supplying adequate power to boost the country’s economy.

“We all know that the power supply for human activity is crucial to enhance socio-economic development, increase income to families, create job opportunities, and bring people out of poverty.

“Therefore, the 132kv transmission line has the capacity to generate uninterrupted efficient power transmission as a bridge or power gap and to serve the people of Okitipupa and its environs, which was thrown into darkness for the past 15 years.

“As a result of the commissioning, the scenario will now change to reactivate businesses for the success of our men and women.

“Now that the government has fulfilled its promise, it’s the turn and responsibility of the communities to fulfil their part by continuing to protect this project against vandalism,” he said.

What NDDC is Saying
On his part, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), stated that the project would provide electricity to over 2,000 communities in the Southern district.

Ogbuku mentioned that the project’s objective is to address immediate needs and reconnect Ondo South to the national grid after approximately 15 years without electricity.

He noted that the Initiative also aims to support the Federal Government’s efforts in the power sector by enhancing the electricity supply to local communities.

He added that the project would bolster the direct value chain in small and medium-sized enterprises, promote job creation, and thereby stimulate growth and development in Ondo State.

“Our task remains to bridge the infrastructural gaps which have existed for far too long, and create an enabling environment for improved economic activities in the communities and across the Niger Delta,”
he said.

Osinbajo wouldn’t have closed the margin. He will at best win SW+Kwara and have some votes in the NC. Osinbajo have no comrade of his own, he would have depended on Buhari might in the North and Buhari would have betrayed him because Buhari as at 2023 was tired of politics already:
