You are keeping this discussions one sided. I actually meant 6.0. You claimed android has more updates than ios while also saying for 3 years Apple updated within same firmware. You are every wrong. They were major upgrades.
I'm not wrong. A patch within an existing firmware isn't a firmware change. It is called a patch or bug fix for the original firmware. E.G, Android ice cream Sandwich came as 4.0 and did patches with 4.0.1 ,4.0.2, 4.0.3, 4.0.4. These are not a different or new updates, they are patches to 4.0 Sandwich, same thing. So if you count it that way the gap for update will extend further for android against IOS.
ollah1:
They didn't just choose to give it a new name. Blackberry and Microsoft have concluded on not changing the name of the current version(BB10 and WIN10) respectively. Would you say they are updating within the same firmware despite it being major upgrades ?
BB10 is now the new name for BlackBerry OS from RIM, It is not the name of the firmware. Its updates like IOS are in numbers. BB10 has its firmware in numbers which indicates a change in upgrade. I believe bb10 debuted with version 8 or something. Win10 for windows mobile started with windows 7, to 8, 9 and to its current state. There's Obviously a difference.
ollah1:
Google chose to given it names and numbers doesn't anything.
Be sincere, when android names a new firmware by a new name, it is a foundamental change in firmware and operation hence the new name. It is for clearity in identification, function and usuage. When ios changes its first number for its fimware it is for a new and different firmware. Period.
ollah1:
You are taking as tho IOS is more stable than Android and then I asked you what makes an OS stable. You have refused to answer me

What makes an OS stable?
How is IOS more stable than Android?

Dude, stop pretending u don't know Samsung Galaxy note 5 is still the most powerful android phone out there. Or why do u think Samsung phones sell even more than nexus phones that are cheaper. Note 5 with touchwiz is more powerful than nexus 6p with marshmallow. It has a better battery life than nexus 6p and nexus 6p has a slightly bigger battery. It has a better camera too even with android 5.1.
Nexus 6p has 3,450 mah battery and it runs marshmallow but galaxy note 5 has a battery battery life, Google it urself. IPhone 6s plus with 2,750mah has a far better battery life than nexus 6p with 3,450mah. Oya check it out on gsmarena, follow the link.

Lags behind in what aspect. I need you to explain.
Android wasn't developed as a camera app, it was developed as an advanced os for cameras.
Yes, my description wasn't so apt, but I was pointing to the obvious: an OS developed for camera OS without a core heritage for mobile telephony is bound to be shaky at its very core.
ollah1:
What updates are you talking about? Apple churns out more updates than anybody else. Atm, ios9 is in 9.2.1 while marshmallow is still in 5.1. What would u say about that?
android marshmallow is 6.0 not 5.1 which is android lollypop. But I reckon You relate OS updates to numbers? Hmm!!
Both the IOS and Android debuted in 2007 and Android has had twelve (12) major updates while Apple has 6 major updates. Let's do the count below:

ANDROID :1- Android 1.0 debuted
2- Android cupcake
3- Android Donut
4- Android Éclair
5-Android Froyo
6-Android Gingerbread
7-Android Honeycomb
8- Android Ice cream Sandwich
9) Android Jellybean
10- Android KitKat
11-Android lollypop
12) Android Marshmallow

Apple debuted with IPhone OS X for the iPhone and did only updates within an existing firmware for 3 years.

The IOS debuted starting as IOS 4 with the iPhone 4.

2- IOS 5 for iPhone 4s

3- IOS 6 for iPhone 5
4-IOS 7 was unleashed with multiple iphone's début ie, iPhone 5s and 5c
5- IOS 8 came with support for iPhone 6 and 6plus
6- IOS 9 came to prepare for iPhone 6sand 6s plus.

Android is the one churning updates not Apple to stabilise its flawed foundation.

***modified**** IOS 9.2.1 is a patch to IOS 9 not a different firmware.

Android KitKat started with 4.4 and Android did patches with 4.4.1 , 4.4.2, 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 . should I follow your numbering as updates android will have reached a thousand updates grin grin

Don't make me doubt you. cheesy

Another thing is if apple had made ios open source, then by now we would be seeing iphones with 3 or 4gb of ram as OEM's will keep increasing the ram in order to get market share even though it doesn't significantly improve performance. I'm not saying its a bad thing, after all faster is always better. What apple has done is take time optimize the OS rather than just throwing extra cores and rams. So even if Google optimize android, it won't stop OEM's from increasing the ram and cores because the competition is stiff and everyone wants their phones to have the highest specs, so be expecting 6gb ram androids very soon especially now that the OS has gone 64 bit.

The problem though is OEM's keep increasing cores and rams at faster pace but battery technology is growing at a much lower pace. All these extra cores and ram take a toll on the battery even if these OEM's will always disagree. The solution ? Add a BIGGER battery, but that comes at a price... Bulky phones and nobody wants a bulky phone. IPhone 6s plus has a smaller battery than galaxy note 5, but note 5 doesn't have a better battery life. Some android phones boast more than 3,000mah battery but still have poor battery life compared to iPhone 6 with much smaller battery. The only improvement tjwated battery in a long time is fast charging which is a good thing.
Spot on. Note 4 is 3200 mah, LG flex is 3500 mah, Note 5 is clocking the 3000 mark as well.

Android users -- myself no different-- are just paying for the instability of the OS in high ram and over clocked processors which affect pricing.

how come these analysts didn't see the downfall of BlackBerry. they can analyse all they want, I don't see Samsung leaving their top spot in smartphone market anytime soon
blackberry at no time in mobile history ever became a top selling brand. The Nigerian market which caught the blackberry fever much late ,after it has become cold to the rest of the world, cannot become a yardstick to determine blackberry's success or lack thereof.

Having said this, blackbery lost out because the world went multimedia crazy with 3D gaming and graphics, blackberry was busy hyping its email security and intranet capabilities only a few business exec cared about.

When they discovered the trend, they tried to catch up with blackberry 10 devices ( Z10, Q10, Z30 etc) but it was too late.

you complained of the software and so the high ram numbers is the solution.
The high processors and ram did offer a good amount of stability and fluidity when compared with past iterations of androids, but it still lags behind other platforms namely IOS.

Perhaps you didn't know android was developed as a camera app platform before Google bought it and tweaked it to a mobile Operating system under linux without bothering to alter its simple architectural core.

It is the reason android churns out so many updates and high ram and processors to remedy its foundational flaws

Android is on 4gb ram and octa (8 ) core processors since last year.

By 2017 they will be on 6gb ram or more and climbing. When is the madness ever going to stop ?

What's a hand held device doing with 4gb ram and octa core processors? Flac videos with complex audio codecs still trouble many flagship androids yet a 2gb windows laptop will carry Corel and complex multimedia.

The climb in hardware is to stabilise the OS which is fundamentally flawed in its core architecture. Google knows this. Samsung are only too aware hence they attempted to drop the OS for a homegrown one but lacked enough R & D and technical muscle to build an ecosystem.

What!!! IPhone is the byword for premium device. Matter of fact other than the iPhone 5c, apple products are expensive, premium built and targeted for upper middle class. Android is the mass market device for every Joe and jack. Most people you see in Nigeria saved their earning to buy an iPhone. Edit your post, please.

What Apple has done is create a marketbase of american loyalists and made it seem like "if it's not Apple, it's not the best" and this was made possible with the ipod which made a lotta things simpler and easier at the time it came out as there was literally nothing like it then.
And i know your next queation is : if Apple is mainly an american thing which it is, how do they make more money than the rest brands esp in the world?
Apple iPhone is the number 1 selling brand in China 2015. Yes the Chinese make Xiaomi and co but they know quality when faced with one.
sundoj08:
I'll give u an example, why are sports watched mostly in america e.g baseball, american football, basketball and even Ice hockey make more money( have more teams in the top 10 most valuable sports franchises) than Soccer which is watched by virtually the whole world. Hope u get the drift.in case you don't, conquering the american market puts u on a pedestal already and the rest of the world markets would have to be strongly united (which is tough to do) to even come close.that's the power and influence America commands.
Western Europe has been the only region pouring money into football for a very long time. America is richer than all of Western Europe, so their sport will reflect this. It doesn't correlate with smart phones.

China is driving mobile market shares, they and India are emerging mobile markets. iPhone is no1 in China despite it's home made brands. America is just roughly more than 300 million people that has reached saturation in mobile market, while China and India are over 2 billion emerging/frontier market still growing.

So by your calculations, it is China and its home made phones are suppose to be pulling the punches not America and iphone. Yet the iPhone is selling hotly in China.

I gave a passing definition of stability on my post here-- the one with the BGR link.

I haven't seen any mobile journalist or website that isn't biased to a degree. I usually read up a single device from multiple sources to sum up my own impression.

What I want to point out is this, the iPhone 6 was made with 1gb ram and dual core processors in 2014 and best the flagship androids of that era, I.e, Samsung galaxy S5, HTC M8 and LG G3.

When the galaxy note 4 debuted as well as the S6, benchmarks still featured comparisons with iPhone 6, never minding that these are devices with 3gb ram and octa core processors.

I just have to give it to the IOS for optimisation and clever engineering for the OS to achieve more using less.

Ha, I've tried different browsers from chrome to Firefox to uc to dolphin, there's no denying it, typing or editing on the web browser for a considerable amount of time results in lags on android no matter the phone. I use a galaxy s6 and whenever I try to type long texts on nairaland I experience lag like keyboard is not keeping up with my typing speed. It is worse with swiftkey keyboard so I had to switch back to Google keyboard which is the smoothest android keyboard, yet I still feel the lags while typing on nairaland. I have to switch to my windows tablet sometimes when I need to edit on the web. This is not noticeable on iPhones.
Our experience seems similar. I have experimented with chrome, uc and opera before finally settling for the default Samsung optimised browser, still if I'm on nairaland typing long essays and adding smiles and emoji, the keyboard just won't remain stable.
You press the delete button to correct wrong inputs, other letters jump into the text.

I first notice this on Tecno and chalked it to the low spec of ALL Tecno brands. Then it happen in Galaxy S4 and 5, LG G flex and G3, and Galaxy Note4.

Only then was I convinced it was an android thing.

Matter of fact you just pointed my experience out.

I don't claim to "know" about tech, I speak from experience as I have used IOS and all types of android.

You said M8 is smoother than iPhone 6, I figured a link will set it out more rightly.

Android is the most functional OS out there but also the least stable and least fluid. I haven't had a hands-on with Microsoft lumia since Nokia handed the reins to Microsoft, but they were smoother than androids.

I won't change my current phone --Samsung Note 4-- but its browsing experience, smoothness and stability is second tier.

http://bgr.com/2014/10/02/iphone-6-vs-htc-one-m8-vs-galaxy-s5/

Not only is the iPhone 6 faster than Samsung S5 and HTC M8, it best both in smoothness and fluidity.

There's a reason game vendors and high 3D game makers have so many titles not available for android.

By stability, I mean frequency or time lap for glitches and hesitations or stuttering or freezing to occur. It is more frequent in android than in IOS.

Gbam. Thats the bitter truth. I am an android user and I ain't switching to ios, but I know ios is buttery smooth than android. Thats why android are making 4gb of ram the standard in 2016 while iPhones use just 2gb of ram. Ios is more optimized, they focus on the most important thing which is user experience, android focus on functionality and as it is right now, a chunk of people want that user experience.
Same here, I stopped using IOS from iPhone 5 and have been using shades of android from Sony to htc to Samsung and LG. Heck, I even used tecno last year for hotspot-ing, but I know for fact that iPhone OS and UX is unbeatable.

For doubters, just start with the browsers, they display pages better, render pages faster with desktop-like animation and layout.

I used Samsung customised browser on my Note 4 but sometimes editing in NL, especially when predictive input is switched on has occasional glitches.

C'mon bro, u think its touchwiz? Galaxy s6 runs smoother than a nexus 6. Google it urself, and nexus 6 is pure undiluted android. My galaxy s6 doesn't stutter after pressing the home button. All widgets don't reload like most androids do, but a nexus 6 which is pure android does that. That is not really lag, but the stutter is there which is almost non existent in an iPhone.
You know your stuff, bro. Even note 4 best the Nexus 6 in smoothness and browsing speed. I notice considerable lag, especially in the exynos version when the cores does switching.

What android fans won't admit is that, Google owns and makes the OS, samsung and other OEM's simply wait to marry Google's android to their hardware made either locally or sourced from third parties. Integration will always be a problem as long as this is the case.

IOS on the other hand, although relatively lacking in functionality, is in-house and is butter smooth and considerably more stable than android despite is lower speced hardware.

I disagree with you. Ios lags and freezes. Head over to imac and macrumours and read how users are lamenting about the OS.
IOS and Mac aren't exactly the same. I'm limiting my opinion to IOS as applicable to iphone's and iPod touch not Mac as applicable to laptops and desktops.
ollah1:
Android is like a virtual machine hence it's high speced nature.
Android is flawed from it architecture, hence the need for high ram and high clocked processor speeds to stable and smoothen the OS. That's why they keep churning updates after updates. Android from inception has always played catch up to the iPhone in smoothness and richness. That's why some game titles for IOS just aren't available for android.
ollah1:
Regarding processors, android uses muti cores to carry out its operations hence more cores while iOS needs only it's single core to get it done.
You just answered the question. IOS needs less power and energy to perform because it is stable and more optimised. Google is still a learner in core mobility. When symbian S60 was the king of UI/OS back in the days, it requires less ram to function. Nearly all 1gb ram androids, S3,HTC One Xl, etc, can't perform half the level of any iPhone equipped with similar specs.
ollah1:
It was perfected on S6 and not the note 5. And don't make it look like Apple initiated finger print scanners on phones.
sorry about the mixup, but both the note 5 and S6 are only a couple months apart. IPhone didn't pioneer finger sensors, but they have the best integration and UX finger scanners on mobile. Samsung had to work through S5, Note 4 and in between to come to par.
ollah1:
What's happening to your note 4 is touch wiz and not android.
Could very well be, but a Nexus 5, Tecnos, infinix that uses next to stock android aren't exactly fairing any better.

If indeed ios is so smooth and extremely optimised why did their latest offerings debuted with 2GB RAM?

virtually all top oems have better cameras than iphones.
Bro, iOS is way smoother and stable than android in every department. IPhone uses 2gb ram because the operating system (OS) doesn't require beafy specs to run smoothly.

Android is on 4gb ram and octa core processors and benchmark still compares them to iPhone 6 and 6plus.

Iphone's finger print sensors that Samsung later applied starting with the galaxy S5 took the company up to the galaxy note 5 to perfect.

My Note 4 that's supposedly armed with 3gb ram, Qualcomm snapdragon 805 chipset with 8 processors still does the well known android freezing and involuntary coffee breaks momentarily.

Samsung like all android OEM's source their Operating system from Google, Apple is in-house technology. That's why Samsung phones starts dropping price 3months after they hit retailers shelves and iPhone maintains its price for a far longer period.

Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, on Thursday, directed all holders of tinted permit and firearms licences to revalidate them, taking effect from today.
The IGP gave the directive in Abuja, at the launch of the Nigeria Police Force Central Information System (NCIS).
He explained that the revalidation of tinted permit will begin today while validation of firearms licence will take effect from January 18, 2016.
Similarly, he said application for Character Certificates will now be processed digitally on the platform of the NCIS.
In his explanation, the IGP said the Character Certificate, Tinted Glass Permit and Fire arms License were processed manually without a central database of applicants or holders.
This, he said, was not only cumbersome but the integrity of these documents was also, subject to forgery. “Even more worrisome is the realisation that under this analogue system, it has been practically difficult to engage best international practices to vet firearms applicants, monitor the extent of compliance of licensees with extant firearms laws, and address the challenge of fire arms proliferation.
“All these gaps impact negatively on the ability of the Nigeria Police to effectively attain its core mandate of preventing and detecting crimes, and protecting the lives and property of the citizens,” he said.
Arase stressed that the revalidation grace for all holders will last for three months after which current permits will be invalid.
“I am to clarify that there will be a three months window for the revalidation of the Fire arms License and the Tinted Permit. Consequently, with effect from March 18, 2016, the current Fire arms License and Tinted Permit will become invalid and holder may be liable to arrest and prosecution,” he stated.

What's up lezz? Well, not really sympathy rather am thinking of the aftermath of this hefty fine on mtn and its effect on the economy, people, employees and even beneficiaries from mtn....Honestly, I want mtn to be fined for the evil they have done by swindling customers of their money but what will happen to those in employment directly and indirectly? I can assure you that our government doesn't have any plan on ground....A lot of people are using mtn to make a living via either sales of their line or card or even benefiting from scholarships... Mtn also contributes enormously to the national GDP, and it will be unwise to drive away a foreign company now especially when a lot of foreign investors are already leaving the country amidst our current dwindling revenues....MTN should be sanctioned but that amount is just too much.
We're on same page, brother. I want mtn sanctioned, fined and humbled. I remember they told us per second billing isn't possible in Nigeria. They charged us to call customer care, etc. I want the fined reduced but still weighty enough to cause them to shiver.

My research says mtn has about 2,500 employees and contributes less than 2 percent of GDP.

But Mtn needs Nigeria more than we need her.

Her position will be readily filled by other telecom firms.

Given the seizure of the $15 million arms money by south Africa during GEJ administration, I've been nursing for a payback within the confines of the law. The fine did it for me.

A compromise will be reached eventually but Pretoria needs one strong message : In a world of capitalism and globalisation, he who has the market dictates the tune.

South Africa is discovering this in a harsh manner.
