Politics / Re: Rice Production: Audu Ogbeh Lied - Thailand Ambassador by Liberator007(m): 2:28pm On Mar 07, 2018
nwabobo:
Rice Production: Audu Ogbeh’s reported claim is untrue – Thailand Ambassador

Wattana Kunwongse, Thailand’s ambassador to Nigeria, has faulted a claim reportedly made by the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Audu Ogbeh, that Thailand accused Nigeria of being responsible for the collapse of its seven rice mills following the drastic fall in rice importation from the country.

The ambassador, in a letter sent to PREMIUM TIMES on Tuesday, described the minister’s claim as “misleading and a distortion of the actual discussion that transpired between them”.

A News Agency of Nigeria report published on PREMIUM TIMES on Friday showed that Mr. Ogbeh made the claim, at a meeting of the Presidential Fertilizer Initiative (PFI) and the leadership of the Fertiliser Producers and Suppliers of Nigeria (FEPSAN) held at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to the report, the minister said “just like two weeks ago, the Ambassador of Thailand came to my office and said to me that we have really ‘dealt’ with them.

“But I asked what did we do wrong and he said unemployment in Thailand was one of the lowest in the world, 1.2 per cent, it has gone up to four per cent because seven giant rice mills have shut down because Nigeria’s import has fallen by 95 per cent on rice alone”.

However, the diplomat said Mr. Ogbeh may have lied.

“The report is not only misleading but a distortion of the actual conversation between myself and the honourable Minister of Agriculture at the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on 30th January 2018, which was nothing short of positivity and optimism on both sides.

“During which I praised President Buhari’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP), the essence of which is the endeavour to move the country to a self-sufficiency and export-oriented economy, and to that worthy cause, Thailand stands ready to work closely with the Nigerian Government in the field of technological transfer and agricultural machineries.

“At the same meeting, the honourable minister and I had reached the conclusion that I as Ambassador 0f Thailand to Nigeria will be working closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and rural development to establish a platform to discuss our mutual benefits in the form of MOU on Agricultural Cooperation and by forming a bilateral Working Committee toward that end.”

He added that the report could not have been farther from the truth as Thailand’s official figures demonstrate that its rice export to the world in 2017 reached 11.48 million tons worth $5.1 billion.

“Thailand’s rice export to the world in 2017 (January-December 2017) reached 11.48 million tons equalising to $5.1 billion (USD), a 15.54 per cent increase compared to previous years, which is one of the highest figures on the history Thailand’s rice exportation. There is no proof of any shutdown of Thailand’s major rice mills,” he said.

Despite the minister’s “misquotation”, the Ambassador said he remains optimistic and looks forward to working together with the Nigerian Government in all fronts in the development of Nigerian agricultural sector.

He noted that based on the warm reception from Mr. Ogbeh when he visited the ministry, he believes the minister is “a great man of integrity who has been working so hard to help Nigeria achieve the goal of self-sustainability in food and agriculture.”

When asked to respond to the ambassador’s rebuttal of Mr. Ogbeh’s statement, the special adviser to the minister on media and publicity, Olukayode Adeleye, said he would have “to crosscheck facts” before responding. He was yet to respond as at the time of this report.

Self-sufficiency in rice production is one of the cardinal objectives of the Muhammadu Buhari administration with different officials calling for a ban on the importation of the product.

In his New Year broadcast in January, President Muhammadu Buhari pledged that his administration will further reduce rice import in 2018. Earlier in August, a director at the agriculture ministry, Muhammad Adamu, announced that Nigeria’s rice production reached 15 million metric tonnes annually.

What do you expect from a party that lied its way into power? If it wasn't Lai, it will be Amaechi. If it wasn't Amaechi, it will be Ngige. And now, Audu again. grin grin grin

Politics / Re: Election Re-ordering Bill Is From Hell – MURIC Attacks National Assembly by Liberator007(m): 12:50pm On Mar 06, 2018
Estar01:
By Estarsblog.com

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) says that the recent election re-ordered bill by the Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) is from hell.

MURIC, however, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to withhold his signature.

Professor Ishaq Akintola, MURIC Director, said this in a statement made available to newsmen yesterday.

“The Nigerian National Assembly (NASS) recently reordered the election sequence which has been in operation in the country since 1999. In the new bill, NASS wants the national exercise which has always started with the presidential election, to start with elections into the NASS.

“The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) roundly rejects the proposed amendment of election sequence. It is belated, parochial, myopic, self-seeking, extravagant and unpatriotic. The bill is an attempt to usurp functions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and intimidate the electoral body. Reordering is a threat to democracy. It is a bill from hell. Mr. President should withhold his signature.

“By seeking to kick-start the elections with that of the NASS, Nigeria’s lawmakers have demonstrated their intention to call attention to themselves. They are therefore more interested in benefiting themselves instead of benefiting the country. At a time the country is reeling under a harsh economic situation, a proposal which extends the election from two-phases to three phases and adds an extra cost amounting to a whopping two billion naira is nothing short of a manifestation of a prodigal son mentality.

“Nigerians should think about what this extra N2 billion can do for the country. The Federal Government recently confirmed that it pumped N2 billion into the second Niger Bridge. It has been observed that Nigerians spend three out of every ten years in traffic. Now, instead of wasting more money on changing the election sequence, why can’t we spend that N2 billion on building at least one pedestrian bridge in every Nigerian state capital? It will bring huge relief to road users and extend the life span of the average Nigerian. Unfortunately Nigerian lawmakers are only thinking of themselves.

“INEC released the election timetable on 9th January. Coming long after INEC had released the election time table, the proposed change in election sequence is bound to throw up logistic complications for INEC. Logistics is central to elections. Planning must be done with microscopic accuracy. Every little detail matters. Again, INEC should have been consulted before proposing the bill but our lawmakers failed to do that. The proposal should have come twelve months earlier, long before INEC released its own timetable. Why did the NASS wait for so long? Is there a hidden agenda?

“Who do we blame if more hitches surface during elections? Can we hang it on the same INEC which has rejected proposed change? Already, INEC has warned that a poorly planned election is an invitation to chaos. Nigeria will become the laughing stock of the whole world if that should happen. This bill must, therefore, be seen as the handiwork of confusionists and anarchists.

“It must also be noted that the proposed reordering of election sequence violates the letter and spirit of the Electoral Act which gives INEC the sole power to organize elections and fix dates.

“In conclusion, we call on President Buhari to reject the bill on the grounds that it is belated, illegal, wasteful, illogical and capable of worsening electoral tension. Reordering the election sequence is also a threat to democracy and an attempt to undermine the independence of INEC.

Crime / 13-year Old Narrates How She Was ‘raped’ By Three Men by Liberator007(m): 1:04pm On Mar 01, 2018
A 13-year-old girl on Wednesday narrated before a Sexual Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, how a brick-layer and two other men raped her on several occasions.

The Basic 2 pupil of a primary school in Ibeju Lekki was 12 years old when the incident happened.

Three suspects, Obinna Iziejen, Raimi Jimoh, and Kazeem Arowolo Olorunwa, were charged with raping the minor.

Mr. Iziejen, 58, pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to 60 years in prison by the judge, Sybil Nwaka.
Messrs Jimoh and Arowolo, however, pleaded not guilty.

On Wednesday, the victim, who gave evidence in her school uniform, said she was living with her grandmother at Orimegun, Ibeju Lekki, when the incident occurred.

“I was 12 years old and in Basic 6 but now I’m 13 years old and in Basic 2. I was demoted in my new school because I can’t read and write well,” the pupil said.

When asked if she recognised the defendants, she said, “I know both of them but I only know the name of the second defendant; Olorunwa, but I know both of them.

“Olorunwa is a brick layer. He used to work in a building near our house. He promised my grandmother that he will give her firewood and my grandmother sent me to get the firewood. Olorunwa said I should go and drop the firewood and come back.

“He took me to a corner of the uncompleted building and said I should remove my pants and I did, he removed his trousers and brought out his penis and put it in my private part. After he gave me N100 and I went.

“On Monday, I went to school and came back. I saw him in the uncompleted building , he slept with me, he took me to his house. At night I went to Olorunwa’s house and I told him my grandmother sent me on an errand but he dragged me that night and slept with me.”

Asked how many of such visits she paid to Mr. Olorunwa’s house and if she was invited, she said,” He used to invite me to his house, I can’t count how many times I went there. I visit him during school hours, sometimes in his house sometimes in the uncompleted building.”

Narrating how she was raped by Mr. Jimoh, she said, “One day, I went to buy something from his wife’s shop but the wife was not around, she sells provisions. I bought what I wanted and left but he asked me to come back and I did. There is this passage between the house and the shop. He took me to his wife’s room and had sex with me on his wife’s bed.”

Asked if she told anyone about the incidents, the victim replied, “One day in my school during long break I went to Olorunwa’s house, on my way back I ran into my teacher. She asked where I was coming from and I told her. I also told her they were three sleeping with me.

“She took me to our head teacher and they took me and Olorunwa to the police station that day. They asked me about the other two and where they stay and the police followed me to go and arrest them.

“They took us to the magistrate court at Magbon-Alade and I was taken to the Arrows of God Orphanage at Ajah. On the same day, they took me to the General Hospital in Ajah and I was tested.”

During cross-examination, counsel to the first defendant, Olanrewaju Akinbo, asked the victim why she never informed her grandmother about the defilement.

The girl replied that if she had told her grandmother, she would tell her father and her father would kill her.

Counsel to the first defendant, A.A Idowu, asked the victim if Mr. Olorunwa told her not to tell the truth in front of her teacher.

She said, “He told me silently not to say the truth. My teacher heard and saw him wink at me and she even asked him why he was doing that.”
Due to the guilt plea by the third defendant, Mr. Iziejen, the prosecution led by Jide Boye filed an amendment of the charge to exclude him.

The case was adjourned to April 26 for continuation of trial.

Crime / Re: Bar Owner Shoots Man Dead In Oyo (Graphic Photos, Video) by Liberator007(m): 9:46am On Mar 01, 2018
stephenduru:
As shared by Taiwo....

'When will the federal government and the house make laws that will restrict the Military and uniform men from carrying ammunition at civil gatherings. When will our law enforcement agencies stop killing those they are meant to protect?

On Monday 26th of February at exactly 6:45pm, myself( Adeleke Taiwo) Kehinde and some if our friends got to trans to chill after the day's work. That is how we have been going there since 2016 without causing any trouble in the vicinity. Before now, we have always been seeing men if the operation Burst with Seyi (Fathers Luski) the owner of the Bar. They drink, chat and smoke together on a daily basis. He always use them as a tool of oppression over anyone who question him. At exactly 7:20pm, Kehinde Adeleke, a young, intelligent and friendly young man who just clocked 30 years last month was shot with a gun of one of the men of the operation Burst constituted by the Abiola Ajimobi led government in Oyo state at the Trans Amusement Park around Agbowo.

It was gathered that, Kehinde who was killed by Father Luski and men of the operation burst sent his immediate younger brother Damola an errand to get him food. On Damola's return, some guys were arguing with him for parking space and all of a sudden the guy slapped Damola Adeleke. Someone went to call Kehinde Adeleke that his younger brother Damola is being beaten up by some guys. On getting there, Kehinde was trying to inquire what transpired between the duo.

However, during the conversation, Seyi( Father Luski) the owner of the bar appeared with some men of the Operation Burst who even without any question from those involved in an argument asked father Luski what was wrong then father Luski pointed to Damola Adeleke as the trouble maker. Immediately he said that, one of the men of the operation Burst smashed a big stick on Damola's head who fainted immediately. People rushed to get water and pour it on him. As that was going on, Kehinde was telling Father Luski that he has not done well that he supposed to settle this and not put blame on one person. The argument went on for almost 5minutes before Father Luski became angry and collected riffle hanged on the shoulder from one of his friends (Men of the Operation Burst) then shot Kehinde in the neck which I was there with the owner of the Bar (seyi AKA father luski ), I was the one hold and dragged the owner of the bar (seyi) in to my car that he had killed my immediately twin brother which he could not escaped. When people heard the gun shot, everywhere was scattered . The operation burst now started spraying gun shots around the premises.

The remaining men of the operation burst ran away but when they got to know that The second in command and the owner of the bar that shot kehinde Adeleke which is called Father Luski has been apprehended by Kehinde's brothers and friends, the operation burst locked the Trans gate and prevented them from taking Kehinde to the hospital for over 30min.

Tope was the one driving the car where Kehinde was kept. Some men of the operation burst pointed gun to his head that he should open the door for The apprehended culprit to escape.

Immediately when we left there, we took Kehinde Adeleke to UCH, he was rejected, we immediately took him to Eleyele police Hospital at the police headquarters, the Doctors there said he was still alive but they don't have necessary tools to carry out any surgery on him that we should take him to Molly Hospital at IDI APE. When we discovered that these hospitals are not attending to us, we called our friend and Brother, Babatunde Badmus who then help us took him to Molly Hospital from Eleyele. On getting to Molly hospital, we were told by the doctor who attended to us that they couldn't feel any pulse again. Then we went to UCH to reaffirm that. On getting to UCH, we saw three patrol vans of operation burst fully loaded with men and ammunition. They blocked the normal entrance then we took the exit so that we can get to the emergency ward. While we were going to Molly hospital, two of our friends who could not follow the car we were carrying took bike and waited for us at the emergency gate of UCH. It was later realized that men of the operation burst arrested these two guys, tortured them and asked them to call us to come out that they want to arrest all of us.( Those guys were not handed over to the police for questioning but we're brutally tortured overnight by the operation burst in their office around NTA IBADAN. They failed to arrest us because of our number and our peaceful resistance coordinated by Babatunde Badmus who helped us to drive him to all the hospitals. Immediately when we entered the emergency, the colonel in charge of the Operation Burst commanded his men to take positions as if they want to wage war against us. They started corking their guns and pointing it at us. Then Babatunde Badmus went to meet the leader of the team and have a discussion with him on why should his men bring ammunition to the hospital where civilians are being treated? But he had no tangible answer. At the end, we had some videos of the Operation Burst fully armed inside the hospital and how they were ready to kill more people. We all went there without any ammunition. We were only sad because our brother was killed yet, we were being victimized by the law enforcement agencies.

We later took him to the Mortuary with some men of Sango Police station where his body was kept'

This is another sad tale of how men who are suppose to protect lives, take it away. May his soul rest in peace. I do patronize bars but anywhere I go and notice the presence of security people with guns drinking, I just leave. A lot can happen. Most of these people who carry arms are not mentally stable. We have heard stories of accidental discharge. I hope the murdered guy gets justice. That is a big HOPE though.

Inspire01:
The Independent National Electoral Commission on Wednesday announced dates for general elections in the country for the next 36 years , starting from 2019 to 2055 .
Chairman of the commission, Prof . Mamood Yakubu , made the announcement at a consultative meeting with leaders of political parties in Abuja .
“ In 2019 , the dates are February 16 and March 2 ; in 2023 , the dates are February 18 and March 4 .
“ In 2027 , the dates are February 20 and March 6 ; in 2031 , it is February 15 and March 1 .
“ In 2035 , it is February 17 and March 3 ; in 2039 , it is February 19 and March 5 and in 2043 , it will hold on February 21 and March 7 .
“ In 2047 , it is February 15 and March 2 ; in 2051 , it is February 18 and March 1 ; in 2055 , it is February 20 and March 6 , ” Yakubu said.
He pointed out that in other democracies of the world, periods of elections are generally known and are not topics for speculation .
Yakubu explained that the aim was to engender certainty in the election calendar and also to allow for long- term planning by the commission and all stakeholders .
He said that certainty in election calendar was necessary to match Nigeria’s democratic system with global best practices .
The chairman said that in the last one week , INEC had received 108 applications from associations seeking to be registered as political parties .
He said that 66 of the applications did not meet the initial requirements , while 33 passed and had proceeded to the next stage .
He said that nine others were at the final stage of registration .
The INEC boss commended political parties for the roles they played in the governorship and National Assembly by -elections in Anambra , which ensured that the exercises were crisis -free .
He urged all existing political parties yet to comply with all relevant sections of the constitutional requirements necessary for their existence , to do so.
He advised the parties to ensure rancour -free conventions and congresses ahead of 2019 and the Ekiti and Osun governorship elections later in the year .
“ Internal party democracy is critical to the overall success of the elections and it helps to eliminate some protracted litigations .
“ Less than a year to the 2019 general elections , there are still cases in courts challenging the nomination of candidates in the 2015 elections , ’’ he said.
Yakubu urged the parties to support the commission in its quest to sanitise the voter register by drawing the attention of the umpire to any irregularity.
In his remarks, the Chairman , Inter Party Advisory Council , Mohammed Nalado, commended INEC for recognising political parties as partners.
He said with little or no financial support, political parties have been at the forefront of voter sensitisation to the need to conduct themselves responsibly at polling units.
Nalado commended the commission for creating an enabling environment for free and fair elections by rolling out election calendar in good time .
He added that the political parties were happy with the position of INEC on the sequence of elections , saying the commission acted on the existing law.
He welcomed the newly -registered political parties to IPAC and urged INEC to support the council ’s plan to amend its code of conduct .
According to Nalado, the amendment will address issues of internal democracy and conflict resolution system , among other issues affecting political parties in the country .

The suspect who took security operatives to where he dumped the boy's corpse - is currently in custody and helping the police with investigation.

His arrest has sparked outrage on social media. See below;

What level of wickedness is this? I can't even take my dogs to where they will harm them but this animal had to kill another human being - his 7 year old nephew for that matter. Parents should please be more vigilant, though the sister would never have thought he would kill her son (his own nephew). This is the part where I hate the law. Politics / Re: APC Extends Oyegun's Tenure By One Year by Liberator007(m): 4:07pm On Feb 27, 2018
We all saw this coming. Tinubu has been floored. The reason Tinubu agreed to head the reconciliation committee was because he thought he could force a convention and thereby remove Oyegun and put his minions. Now that the NWC has been given an extension, it is certain that Buhari will be given automatic ticket. Tinubu has been used and dumped. grin grin grin grin

Crime / Re: JSS 1 Pupil, Others Arrested During Cult Initiation In Lagos by Liberator007(m): 1:21pm On Feb 27, 2018
This is a sad and worrisome development. Government needs to take a strong stand against cultism. I work around Lekki-Ajah and I can relate. One sat beside me in a bus from Oshodi to Lekki. He looked tattered and dirty. I knew he was a cultist - eiye - because he brought out a phone and started playing their songs via speaker and sang along. He had one of those traditional rings on one of his fingers. I wish there was a way I could have reported him that day. These are young boys wasting away their future. Something urgent must be done to arrest the issue. Sending them to prison will only add to their plight as they will mix with different shades of criminals and turn out worse.

Crime / Re: Islamic Cleric Hypnotises Childless Women, Takes Their Money, Sleeps With Them by Liberator007(m): 3:05pm On Feb 26, 2018

By Dayo Johnson, Akure
SEEKING spiritual assistance from Oladele Ayuba, an lslamic cleric in Arigidi-Akoko area of Akoko North West, Ondo State, after being battered by life challenges, is like jumping from frying pan to fire or, better still, entering the lions’ den to be devoured.

*Left: Ayuba (third right) with some security agents; right;: The car and charms allegedly recovered from him

Instead of taking the burden off the shoulders of his clients, the cleric allegedly added to it by defrauding them and having carnal knowledge of some of the women.
He was alleged to have defrauded his clients to the tune of N36m after hypnotising them.

Sunday Vanguard investigation showed that the cleric, nicknamed ‘Young, also allegedly had his hands in kidnapping and ritual killings.

The paramount traditional ruler of the town, the Zaki of Arigidi-Akoko, Oba Yisa Olanipekun, banished Ayuba from the town following reports of his alleged shady deals.

Olanipekun wrote a letter to security agents to lodge a complaint on the alleged criminal activities of the cleric.

The Oba alleged that the cleric had his fingers in nefarious activities ranging from kidnapping to ritual killing, sex with childless women seeking spiritual help and fraud.

According to him, many alleged crimes said to have been committed in the town and environs were traceable to Ayuba.

The traditional ruler was quoted to have said that he did not want to see the suspect in his community anymore.

Ayuba is presently in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ondo State Command.

Speaking on the activities of the suspect, a resident of Arigidi-Akoko revealed that Ayuba would instil fear in the minds of those seeking spiritual help from him after they might have been hypnotised and assured of spiritual cleansing.

It was learnt that his victims include those who visited him for solution to spiritual matters ranging from barrenness to lack of husband, spiritual attack, stagnation at work, lack of good job and terminal diseases.

“He would request for money from his clients to help them prepare fetish substances that would deliver them from their enemies”, the resident, who spoke anonymously for fear of reprisal, said.

The cleric reportedly had a shrine where, the moment victims entered, would lose their senses and then remotely be controlled to look for money at all costs.

Ayuba, according to one of the victims, always warned them not to tell anybody failure which their problems would double and they would eventually die.

He was paraded alongside two other suspects for alleged offences, including obtaining by false pretence, illegal possession of counterfeit money and vandalism of transformer, by the State Command of the NSCDC.

The Corps Commandant, Pedro Awili Ideba, gave the names of the two other suspects as Abiodun Oluwaseun and Jayeola Tosin.

Pedro said Ayuba, who claimed to be an Islamic cleric, was involved in advanced fee fraud and had duped many who went to him for prayer of various amounts ranging from N300, 000 to N36m.

According to him, “but he was arrested following a complaint by one of his victims, Tajudeen Ekundayo, who lost N4.3m”.

He went on, “Immediately the complaint was lodged at the Command headquarters, my men swung into action and arrested the man who is alleged to be the kingpin of a syndicate in Arigidi-Akoko while other members are still at large”.

Pedro alleged that several criminal activities, ranging from kidnapping to ritual killing and fraud, had been traced to the cleric who, according to him, hailed from Ilorin, Kwara State.

The Commandant recalled that Oba Olanipekun had petitioned the State Command of the NSCDC to lodge a complaint about “criminal activities, including kidnapping, ritual killing and fraud, traced to Ayuba”.

He added, “Oba Olanipekun has given instruction that he does not want to see the man in his community anymore because he is a bad example to youths”.

Sunday Vanguard was informed that youths of the town equally advised him to return to llorin where he came from.

Petrol said items recovered from the cleric include fetish items, blood stained clothes and a car with customised registration number ‘Young 1’.

Also paraded was one Abiodun Oluwaseun, who allegedly belonged to a gang which specialized in the printing and spending of counterfeit Naira, saying he was arrested after using N 24,000 fake N1, 000 notes to buy goods from a provision seller.

According to Pedro, the woman reported the case to the State Command and the men of the Corps trailed the syndicate and arrested one of its members while others remained at large.

The Commandant added that one Jayeola Tosin, known as Asala, was also arrested in Ikare-Akoko for vandalizing transformer cables.

According to him, the suspect was arrested by men of the Nigerian Army and handed over to the Corps for investigation.
Pedro assured that justice would prevail in all the matters.

https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/02/cleric-hell-ayuba-hypnotises-childless-women-takes-money-sleeps/ This is sad but what caught my eye was the "My men swung into action". Is that the only phrase our security people know? Policemen, swung into action. Soldiers, swung into action, NSCDC, swung into action.. Abeg, they should dash Mr President the word too oo.

Yesterday, February 22, after discovering and removing the corpse of Mr. Happy Akpomieme who was killed by Fulani herdsmen in his farmland in Abraka, the Hon member representing Ethiope East State Constituency, Hon. Evance O. According to reports, on Wednesday, February 21st, Mr and Mrs. Happy Akpomiemie went to their Cassava farm with their 16 years old son Elvis Akpomieme. While peeling the cassava they just uprooted, they saw many cows and herdsmen heading close to them and they became apprehensive and Mr Happy Akpomieme immediately told his wife and son that this may just be their last day.

They were immediately accosted by the gun wielding herdsmen and the father told the son Elvis to escape and as Elvis began to run, the mother Mrs. Patience Akpomieme a 36 years old Housewife and farmer followed the son and immediately the son heard a loud gun shot fired to the mother from her back and three other gun shots followed immediately.

Politics / Bola Tinubu's Letter To John Odigie-Oyegun! "You Are Sabotaging My Assignment" by Liberator007(m): 7:09pm On Feb 22, 2018
Bola Tinubu, a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has written a scathing letter to the national chairman of the party, John Odigie-Oyegun, accusing him of sabotage, TheCable can report.

Tinubu, who copied the president, vice-president, senate president and speaker of the house of representatives, pointedly accused Odigie-Oyegun of contravening the spirit of the discussions both of them had at the party secretariat when President Muhammadu Buhari gave him the assignment of reconciling aggrieved members.

In the letter, dated February 21, 2018, the former governor of Lagos state said “disappointment greeted me when I discovered that you had swiftly acted in contravention of the spirit of our discussions. Instead of being a bulwark of support as promised, you positioned yourself in active opposition to the goal of resuscitating the progressive and democratic nature of APC”.

Tinubu said while Odigie-Oyegun mentioned Kogi, Kaduna, Kano and Adamawa as places affected by serious party issues, “you have taken it as your own personal ambition to thwart my presidential assignment in these key states”.

He accused the chairman of rushing to Kogi state to unilaterally inaugurate officials “parallel to the officials already heading the state chapter of the party”.
“While this may place you in significant affinity with those parallel officials you handpicked, this machination suggests no improvement in the welfare of the party in Kogi or at the national level,” Tinubu wrote.

Tinubu said Odigie-Oyegun apparently seeks “to undermine my mandate by engaging in dilatory tactics for the most part. When forced to act, you do so in an arbitrary and capricious manner”.

The third republic senator said even if Odigie-Oyegun had personal qualms with him, it is his right as a human being but “you have no such right the chairman of this party… The party belongs to all of its members”.
He asked the former governor of Edo state to refrain from taking any more “improper unilateral decisions with regard to the national and state chapters of the party”.

He reminded Odigie-Oyegun that the assignment was given to him by Buhari, stating that “in furtherance… I request that you make available to me the status reports and all the pertinent information regarding the state chapters without further delay”.

TheCable understands that Tinubu, who is supporting Buhari for a second term, is not comfortable with Odigie-Oyegun’s continued leadership of the party, although pro-Buhari governors have impressed it on the president that it was better to elongate Odigie-Oyegun’s tenure than risk a new convention that could further fracture the party.

Tinubu’s relationship with Odigie-Oyegun has been on a downward trend since the APC primary election for Ondo governorship in 2016.

Segun Abraham, thought to be Tinubu’s preferred choice, was defeated in controversial circumstances by Rotimi Akeredolu, who went on to win the governorship election.
