Chief Williams Ibori, the former Unugbrogo of Oghara kingdom in Delta state is dead. The deceased who is the elder brother of a former governor of Delta state, James Ibori – reportedly passed away very early this morning (while some say he died yesterday night).

His death is coming less than four months after getting married to his younger bride traditionally in Ogharefe, Ethiope west local government area of Delta state.

The low-key wedding which was done in March 2018, was attended by family and friends.

Facebook users including Ossai Ovie Success, the media aide to Delta state governor, Ifeanyi Okowa have taken to the social media platform to mourn the death of Chief Ibori.

One of the relatives to the deceased, Comedian Talkbig wrote; Tears in my eye's. Still can't believe my world best dad is gone forever, one man that will never stop taking care of me, my dad's elder brother my uncle for life.... Uncle you will forever remain in my heart. May your soul rest in the bossom of the lord. Love you uncle. RIP chief William's Ibori the gbrogodo of oghara kingdom.

Early this morning, armed policemen sealed off Ekiti Government House and prevented supporters of Governor Ayodele Fayose from entering.

A rally scheduled to take place at the new Pavilion located at Fajuyi, which was within the vicinity of the Government House was botched as policemen teargased the participants .

The policemen were shooting sporadically into the air as they dispersed the PDP members who were called by Fayose to rally support for Prof Kolapo Olusola

The PDP members had massed at the new pavilion when policemen swooped on them and dispersed the gathering.

Those affected fled in different directions to prevent being arrested by police.

A chieftain of the Accord Party (AP) and former presidential spokesperson, Dr Doyin Okupe, has advised Senate President Bukola Saraki to leverage on his increasing popularity and contest the 2019 presidential election.

Okupe stated this while analysing the All Progressives Congress (APC) crisis and the recent breakaway of the Reformed APC on Channels Television breakfast show, Sunrise Daily yesterday.

According to him, “Apart from Buhari, the next most visible and most notable politician in Nigeria today is Saraki, and he would do himself a great favour if he steps into the ring and run for president, because he has the pedigree.

“Saraki had the required exposure and experience from being a Special Assistant to the president to being a two-term governor, and now the Senate president. He has been through different stages of leadership and this makes him stand out among many other aspirants who have indicated interest to become president.”

Asked about the feasibility of Saraki clinching the APC presidential ticket against President Muhammadu Buhari, who has also indicated interest to run for a second term on the platform of the party, Okupe said: “APC would be doing themselves a favour if they do not allow the president to run, and I don’t see Saraki contesting primaries in the APC, it is impossible, the hostility against him in the APC is too much, and that is why he needs to move to another party where he can form alliance with other parties to contest.”

Analysing the chances of President Buhari winning the 2019 elections with the present crisis rocking the APC, the former presidential spokesperson said: “Buhari’s government and the APC are presently at the lowest ebb of popularity. The saying that Buhari has 12million votes in the North is delusional, the northerners are also affected by the economic problem Nigeria is facing, and a larger percentage of the goodwill and popularity Buhari enjoyed before the 2015 elections have diminished because the people are not happy.

“Take for instance, Buhari had about two million votes from the Middle belt, now 80 percent of that is gone.”

Okupe opined that any vote Buhari and the APC lose in the North cannot be recovered anywhere else.

Adeyemi Alao, the boyfriend and suspected killer of Miss Khadijat Oluboyo, daughter of immediate past Deputy Governor of Ondo State has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command, according to Radio Nigeria.

Khadijat, who was a final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, was found dead in her boyfriend’s house, Adeyemi, popularly known as Q.S.

Miss Khadijat who was declared missing for the past six days at the school, was found under the bed of her boyfriend in what was suspected to a money ritual by the boyfriend Adeyemi Alao popularly known as QS.

It was reported that an Herbalist that did the money ritual for Adeyemi who is currently at large, instructed him to keep the corpse for seven days but lucky ran out of the Abuja-based boyfriend when his younger brother met the decomposing body of Oluboyo’s daughter in mysterious manner and he later reported the incident to the police in Akure.

Confirming the arrest, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Femi Joseph said the suspected killer was arrested by a team of detectives from the police Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The PPRO said Adeyemi who was already in the police custody, had been cooperating with the police with relevant information on the circumstances that led to the death of Khadijat Oluboyo.

The police spokesman assured that the case would be thoroughly investigated with a view to establishing facts behind the death of the former deputy governor’s daughter at her boyfriend’s house.

Your gut feeling is right, always right! Governors in some states will abuse it, no doubt. The law will work in certain areas but some states in this country with some immature governor will first populate the force with his ethnic group and then use the force to hunt and kill all opposition in the state.

If Godswill Akpabio controlled the police in his state, no Ibibio person would be alive today. Same in Rivers state - Wike would not even be governor today because Amaechi would have finished him. Suswam of Benue would have finished people, even before the herdsmen. Imagine, El Rufai , Yahaha Bello with their own private police force. Southern Kaduna will not be in the map. Dino Melaye should really thank his God because he'd be dead by now, if Gov Bello controlled Kogi Police!

The National Assembly should not pass this law for state police. They shouldn't. Instead, the Police can recruit more people from each state and the new officers will remain in their respective states of origin, while officers currently in the force continue as federal police. This would inject the much needed boots on the ground in Benue and other states where killings are taking place.

You have said it all. What I would suggest the National Assembly do is reform the police and we would get the better of them. It is as simple and as difficult as that.

They will turn it into a weapon against perceived enemies and it will be worse. Look at the report of SARS (Fakorede) in Rivers and the many atrocities he committed during the 2015 elections. As much as we support this, we should be wary of how it will turn out.
