On Monday, the social media space once described by the Nobel Laureate, Wole Soyinka, as the (Unregistered) Association of Nigerian Internet habituees had a filled day throwing jabs and punches, albeit weightless ones, at his shadow.
This time, it wasn’t about what he said. It was more about what he did – Kongi sat on a seat that wasn’t allocated to him on an airplane and he was asked to vacate the seat by the original owner, a yet to be identified, young man.
The incident would have gone unnoticed but for the overzealousness of businessman, Tonye Cole, who decided to play judge and jury. Cole felt the young man had disrespected the professor by insisting that he leaves the young man’s allotted seat which according to the judge and jury, the professor did.
Quoting Cole, who shared the story on his Instagram page, “@professorwolesoyinka #celebritygreatness #relationshipsmatter met one of the greatest Nigerians walking the earth today and as with other times, he was genteel, witty, forthright and humble. My smile gives me away as he permitted the picture whereas he would have preferred to get back to his newspapers. We boarded the flight and after assisting him with his bags, he took the window seat and promptly started reading again.
A few minutes later this young man, baseball cap, t-shirt to show his muscled chest and tattooed biceps boards the plane and tells Prof he is on his seat (which he was). Those of us including the cabin crew tried to reason with Bobo Fine to let the old man be but the chap refused. He insisted the Prof should vacate his window seat, which the old man quietly did for his original aisle seat next to him.
I couldn’t understand how we got to this point where we no longer have respect for elders, even if we are so ignorant of the great global personalities in our midst. Is it too much to ask that an elderly man be allowed to remain in a seat allotted to you in the same business class cabin and same row? Na wa o!”
As expected, this has generated a lot of controversies amongst the Unregistered) Association of Nigerian Internet habituees, with people sharing their various opinions on the incident. Surprisingly, most are not addressing the core issues raised by that ugly incident, if at all is an ugly one.
Firstly, the depiction of the rightful owner of the seat as “a young man, baseball cap, t-shirt to show his muscled chest and tattooed biceps” was clearly done by judge and jury Cole to elicit sympathy for Prof while portraying the young man as an outcast and everything wrong with the Nigerian society. I wonder if he would have been described as a tall young man, immaculately dressed and clean shaven if he were to be dressed as such. Cole needs to be reminded that everything wrong with the Nigerian society is not often dressed in baseball caps or t-shirts. In most cases, they don’t have muscled chests or tattooed biceps. Everything wrong with Nigeria is dressed in flowing Agbada, they resume at Hallowed Chambers with dozens of aides. They have military escorts and they openly show disdain for the rule of law. They camouflage as leaders whereas they are bloodsuckers who live at the expense of the Nigerian masses.
Secondly, Cole saw nothing wrong in the fact that our cultured and well-mannered Prof decided to bend the rules and allocate to himself, a seat that was clearly meant for another person. For those familiar with WS, a younger version of him would have done the same. Wole Soyinka should only be excused if he were boarding a plane for the first time. Growing up, most of us idolized Soyinka. We studied him the way you study a course. We had his images in our rooms. We were so proud (still proud) to be associated with what he represents in the larger context. In fact, we wore that association like a badge of honor. Trust me, in his mind, Soyinka is probably proud of that young man as he stood up against Moribund Convention, what Capoon Blood of Tortuga has preached all his life.
Lastly, did the young man show a lack of respect for an elder or a great global personality?

The cultist group accused ‘Zlatan Ibile’ of being a member and not coming to pay homage to them at their base before he stepped on stage. On this note, the cultist groups started disrupting the show by attacking students of Obafemi Awolowo University.
The clash left not more than 7 people injured and 1 person feared dead! It was reported that the cultists were apprehended by the school security unit, where they were dealt with for their actions.

Darius Makambako, 50 and his Precious, 45 who wanted to have a child chose another way, after they were told by a renowned doctor that the man was sterile. The Tanzanian policeman who alongside his wife was tired of being in a 6 years childless marriage, chose his neighbor Evans Mastano, 52 a fellow police officer to impregnate his wife.

A man has killed his fiancé in Austria after she mocked him for having a small penis.
According to Mirror UK, the man named Daban K. from Iraq, killed the woman after she had sheltered him from the Austrian authorities for several years.
The woman hid Daban in her flat when he ignored a deportation order to be sent back to Iraq from Austria.
After he was arrested for murder, the 40-year-old blamed the attack, which saw him stab his partner at least four times in the neck, on her for mocking his masculinity and being unfaithful.
Daban K., whose full name has not been released due to Austrian privacy laws, said in a conversation with court psychiatrist, Sigrun Rossmanith, that: “She was a very good woman to me, but she repeatedly insulted me.
“She cheated on me three times with other men and did not want to have sex with me anymore. One day she told me that my penis was too small.”

ChangeIsCostant: A dog has been killed after attacking and biting a pupil to death earlier today in Port-Harcourt, River state.
The unfortunate incident happened along Tessy road in Rumuagholu, off Rumuokoro area in the state capital as the young boy was bitten to death by the rampaging Rottweiler dog.
It was gathered that the security guard at the house where the dog lived, opened the gate for the dog and it ran straight to a primary school (without fence), and attacked a pupil of the school. The dog was said to have also pounced on another child and bit her in the buttocks before an angry policeman shot the dog to death as claimed by Chuks Bune who recorded the incident.
The second victim is receiving treatment at Spring Rose Hospital along Rumuagholu road.
Report has it that the guard of the house where the dog escaped from has been arrested by the police.
The dog was a Dobberman Pincher and not a Rot. May the soul of the deceased rest in peace. Most of these dog owners don't know jack about dogs and when you have this kind of breed, you keep it in a confined area away from kids.
WORDSENSEI: When 66-year-old, Valentine Obi Okereh quit the civil service, he turned to entrepreneurship as he set up his real estate business.
But in 2014, this father of seven was diagnosed with prostrate cancer. And this has worsened over the years. Not only has it affected his physical well- being but also his business which is now folded up.
According to the World Health Organisation, cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide. It accounts for estimated 9.6million deaths in 2018.
Of the figure, prostate cancer represents an estimate of 1.28 million. Prostate cancer is the disease of the prostrate – a small walnut shaped gland in men that produces the seminal fluid which nourishes and transports sperm.
Okereh who is appealing to Nigerians to help him raise N7.5 million to be treated in India, tells makeitglobal.biz his story.
“ Mine is an unfortunate incident. In 2014, I started having difficulties trying to urinate. I often strained whenever I tried urinating. Well, I didn’t take it lying low, I had to go to the hospital to complain. At the hospital, I was asked to take a series of tests which confirmed that I had prostate cancer. My prostate was enlarged.”
Since he was diagnosed in 2014, Okereh commenced treatment. Not only did he spend a lot on tests, he also spent a huge sum on drugs and even surgery. Due to his ailment, his business died gradually.

“ I have been on drugs, lots of expensive drugs. There is this particular injection I take every three months. The cost is N155,000 just for one injection. I started taking this injection since 2016 and its been on till date.”
Late last year, the battle for Okereh intensified. “Suprisingly, last year, the problem escalated and I had to rush back to my doctor because I was passing out blood as urine. You can imagine the kind of excruciating pain I was in. ” Again, he was asked to take a test, the result of which showed that the cancer was resisting treatment.
“From the test, we discovered that the disease was resisting treatment and once the disease is resisting treatment.
“The result of the test also shows that the cancer has spread to my bladder. There were tumors in my bladder.
“ The doctors said that urgent steps should be taken now to ensure that it does not spread to vital other vital parts of the body like the kidney, liver and spleen”, he says.
“Please I am calling on well meaning Nigerians to come to my aid. I still have a lot to do in life. I sincerely ask for your help.”
His wife, Agatha who was a trader had to stop her business to care for her husband. She also pleads with Nigerians to help her husband.
“I would never wish this to happen to my enemy. “ I believe God that I would not lose my husband to cancer, please help us, ” she says.
