Amefrica: Thanks.. Will i write SOP when writing TOEFL ? I'm confused
Nope. Nothing like SOP during TOEFL. SOP is only required while submitting your application and that's if the school you re applying requests for it. It's just a professional statement where you give a brief biography, motivation for choosing the course and the school, research interest and long term plan...
Please check with the school first and don't get bothered about it. Passing toefl should be your priority now. Take care.

ak95: My GRE test loading..... Apart from all those nice textbooks that was shared on this platform, plz house I need more guidelines from people who have written the test before.
They said experience is the best teacher. Thank you.
I'm waiting please.
I will start by saying GRE is a gruesome test that takes 3-4 hrs massive brainstorming. I want to believe you have studied hard and ready for the test. Since your test is approaching, you might wanna try some online timed tests and see how ready you are for the test.
You should be able to ace the quantitative part if you are sound in mathematics. You only need to be careful with the nuances.
Verbal part is a nightmare for many people including me but you can always try your best by learning as many words as you can, practise a lot of comprehension passages and improve on your writing skills for the AWA.

On the day of the test, ensure you take a light food (make ur stomach no dey make noise or makee piss dey catch you during the test #lol), dress comfortably and ensure you get to the test centre as early as possible to allow more time to settle and well organised. One more thing, Be confident, time conscious and be as accurate as you can. Ooooops... Sermon plenti. Make I stop here.. All da best

kunlebal: Please house am waiting for your response
You will still need to check with you school of choice on the requirement(s). Well, since you are going for Masters, I don't think SAT is needed. You might only be required to write GRE/GMAT and TOEFL/IELTS.
Your cgpa isn't bad as some good US schools only require a gp of 3.00 out of 4.00 and yours should be at that range when converted.
My candid advice is that you take a standardised test for the sake of the interview as that boosts your chances. Although there are people that didn't write and got the visa, you stand a good chance if you do as the VO sees you as a serious student. Others will add to this... I rest my case. My 2 KOBO

flynbird: Do I take the original reciept or the print out for my interviewhuh? I thought I read somewhere on this thread where people pay a few days to their interview. So how then do they get their original Reciepthuhhuh??
If u get the original sevis receipt mailed to you before your interview, you take it along otherwise, the online printout will also suffice.
I opted for an expedited delivery and got mine in 3 days. So I went to the embassy with the original.

Feexo: House, My aunt is the sponsoring me but she is not going to be around until December. My uncle is willing to give me his statement of account to submit to schools in fulfillment of the basic documentation requirement, since I am submitting my applications in September.I still plan to take my aunt's statement of account to the embassy eventually. Will the VO know that I submitted a different statement of account to the schools?
Feexo! The one wey dey BBA. Lol.
Your I-20 will only state 'family fund' so the VO won't know which account you sent to the school. So no shaking. Hope this helps...

flynbird: Hi guys. Been away for a while. Bigfrancis, imperioxx and co... My I-20 is on its way. I'll be paying my Visa fee next week. Now my problem is paying my SEVIS fee. I have a cousin in the Uk and one in Malaysia. I'll like to know which of them would be in the best position to help me pay the $200 Sevis fee. I can't stand the stress of going to cotounu. What details would either of them need to pay my service fee. And would they need to send me some sort of receipt through post? Or I just need some online print out to take to the embassy?
To the best of my knowledge, you will need to fill a form where you provide your sevis id, school code, passport no and so on. Once the payment is confirmed, u can always goto www.fmjfee.com/ to check your status and print if confirmed. Your sevis receipt is to be sent to the address you provided in the form and it's your choice to opt for air mail or express mail (attract extra cost).
Hope this helps. The gurus in the house will add to this...

De Tus: @Lisadem, Is ur brother or relative paying for ur trip in the United States? Or does any hold US Citizenship? If any of the above is yes, i think you shouldn't worry. You only have to be alert when questions on relative arise. Eg: do you have any relative in the US? Simply say "yes". Then if he asks where he lives in the US, say it out and then say he's currently elsewhere now. I guess he's in Africa helping out. It will sound natural. Sometimes the VOs do not want to hear that one's relative is working in America, they get jealous and think you will do the same thing as well. Unless you're going for an immigrant visa. Because you're going for a non-immigrant visa so it's totally a different ball game! Be wise!!!
Thanks a lot De Tus. Am getting relieved now. #wink

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part4 by lisadem: 8:24pm On Jun 07, 2013
bigfrancis21: You are the cause of your continued visa denial. You're being denied visa simply out of inconsistency, or rather, do I say 'dishonesty' from the angle of the VO. If I'm correct, when you first applied for a visiting visa, you included that you have a brother living in the US who's a resident. And the second time you went you said 'no', probably because he was on transfer to Ghana (or maybe you felt that you got denied the first time because of immigrant intent as you mentioned you have a brother living in the united states who can file for you, so you decided to claim 'no' subsequently so that the VO will not think you have immigrant intent). The third time you said 'no' again. Now don't forget that all your past interview records and visits to the US embassy are stored on the embassy's database such that each time you return to the embassy and do your finger printing, all your past records immediately comes up. Meaning that during your last interview, the visa officer saw your past applications and the inconsistency on his system and kept asking you again the same question to which you said no. He simply expected your reply to tally with that of your first interview or first DS-160. Someone on this thread got denied at the embassy 4 good times due to this same inconsistency mistake she was making. And when she finally realized her mistake and went back again, she came out clean and gave consistent answers, the VO granted her her visa.

The visa officer expects that your answers be consistent with the former each time you conduct subsequent interviews at the embassy. Any sign of 'dishonesty' or inconsistency on your part, they deny you quickly. Having said this, your reply to the VO when he asked you whether you have a relative in the US should have been simply, 'Yes' just for the sake of consistency. Or you would have said, 'yes, but he's currently in ghana on transfer'. Don't forget that even though your brother's currently in ghana, he's still a permanent resident of the United states. Since, you have already answered yes the first time that you have a relative in the US, please still keep to that. Coming later to say no will be seen as dishonesty by the VO. And he'll deny you. Sorry, but that's how the system works. He has to keep it. Your story might be credible but he's acting on orders.
Wow! This is amazing. I appreciate u a lot for taking your time to write this useful piece. Hope it won't be counterproductive if I say YES this time eventhough I have no proof for his residence now in the US.
This will now be my answer trend:
1st attempt (B1/B2)- YES (in Texas)
2nd attempt (F1) - NO
3rd attempt (F1) - YES (where?)
#lobatan. God help me o.

imperiouxx: Do you have any relative in US? If no, then your answer stands as "NO". If you do but lied, then I'm afraid.
Thanks imperiouxx. I have no reason to lie. I just explained my case. It's just kinda complicated. He got a green card recently but the truth still remains that He's moved to Ghana on job transfer (his job demands that he gets transferred to a different region every 3 years. Ghana is his 4th destination). I presented him as my sponsor in my last interview and there I guess the VO must have noticed the discrenpacies after delving into his details. I was advised to change to a local sponsor but I still want to be sure the issue of 'relative in the US' won't be an -ish. I need your advice imperiouxx

OjaP: You are most welcome Tweety.

The Visa is yours already.

Lest I forget, if they ask if you have any relative in the US, do not lie since they still have access to the DS 160 you filled 6 years ago. I also hope your school is not in the same city or state with your brother/uncle. All the best.
Please Ojab I need more clarification. What about a case where someone's brother once lived in the US but not living there anymore.do I still need to fill in the ds-160 that He's still living there? Here is my case: I once applied for a visitor visa when my brother was living in the US but denied, also applied for F1 visa last month (filling in the form that I have no relative since he's moved out of the US) but was also denied.I remember the VO reiterating, do you have any relative in the US? And I kept saying NO. Please am at a loss now. How do I go about the relative -ish? Please come to my rescue.

effulgence: Hello everyone, many thanks to all of you for giving information and advising prospective students who want to study in the US.I just learnt from this forum that one must apply for student visa 120 days before resumption date. Now I am yet to apply for interview because my I-20 form is yet to arrive.my question is Should I go ahead and schedule an interview considering the 120 days rule because I feel its late to apply now or what do you suggest I do?I am for fall 2013.Thanks
Seems peeps are misguided about the 120 days rule tinz. It only stipulates that you appear for a F1 visa only 120 days before the resumption date showing on ur I-20. Since your are applying for Fall 2013, you re good to go to book ur visa appointment.so No shaking. Should you get your visa now, u aint suppossed to travel 30days earlier than ur resumption date.
All da best.
