Germany is rationing hot water, dimming its street lights and shutting down swimming pools as the impact of its energy crunch begins to spread from industry to offices, leisure centres and homes.

A huge increase in gas prices triggered by Russia’s move last month to sharply reduce supplies to Germany has plunged Europe’s biggest economy into its worst energy crisis since the oil price shock of 1973.

Gas importers and utilities are fighting for survival while consumer bills are going through the roof, with some warning of rising friction.

“The situation is more than dramatic,” said Axel Gedaschko, head of the federation of German housing enterprises GdW. “Germany’s social peace is in great danger.”

As tensions over Russia’s war in Ukraine escalate, officials fear the situation could get worse. On Monday, Russia is shutting down its main pipeline to Germany, Nord Stream 1, for 10 days of scheduled maintenance. Many in Berlin fear it will never reopen.

Germany last month took a crucial step towards rationing gas when economy minister Robert Habeck activated the second stage of the country’s gas emergency plan. “The situation on the gas market is tense and unfortunately we can’t guarantee that it will not get worse,” he said on Tuesday. “We have to be prepared for the situation to become critical.”

Habeck, who says he is now taking shorter showers, has appealed to the population to save energy — and municipalities and property owners have heeded the call.

On Thursday Vonovia, the country’s largest residential landlord, said it would be lowering the temperature of its tenants’ gas central heating to 17C between 11pm and 6am. It said the measure would save 8 per cent in heating costs.

A housing association in the Saxon town of Dippoldiswalde, near the Czech border, went a step further this week, saying it was rationing the supply of hot water to tenants. From now on they can only take hot showers between 4am-8am, 11am-1pm and 5pm-9pm.

Actually might even make sense that many of these bandits and terrorists are from Northern Ghana, considering the venom with which they massacre Nigerians. No people on earth hate Nigerians like Ghanians do. Even if the Hauser Muslims of Northern Ghana may have thire origen in Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon, they adopt Ghana's hatred for Nigeria. Even the Igbos that are in Ghana have adopted the same hatred for Nigeria as their host country Ghana.

Nigeria does not keep a meaningful death and birth records system. Many of those terrorists could be originally from Northern Ghana and Nigeria authorities wouldn't know or...even care.

Some of the people that escaped from the Edo state prison break found their way to Ghana.

They must not allow Terrorist to escape into their country.
Or maybe those people where from Ghana originally.

Dose Nigeria posses a purpose fit system in place that can reliably determine the true nationality of people in Nigeria if or when sought ?

Owning Twitter, especially with the extremely naive and one dimensional reason of his for advocating Freedom of Speech on Twitter, would have distroyed him. Even his first forays, in this regard, has caused his brand damage. We all love freedom of speech for personal reasons. However true freedom of speech advocacy requires those capable of objective considerations. Freedom of speech is one of the very few areas in the Mankind ecosystem where there can be no contradictions.

I do hope he actually has decided not to go through with the deal since i like much of what he dose in the technology and human advancement fields.

You mean Relative poverty.

There's a YouTube video in which a Lagos taxi, Owner-Driver, is seen bitterly complaining to a white vlogger on how he hated Nigeria because of his poverty and wished to jappa abroad. A decade ago, a car owner taxi driver in Nigeria would be firmly in the lower middle class bracket. In natural terms, you're not poor if you're not starving to death. In Nigeria, the majority of the people own or have ability to own land in their villages. Land ownership in the West is the preserve of the mostly wealthy or above average wage earners.

Poverty, contemporarily, is a political concert. Africa needs a conversation on the meaning of poverty.

PoliticsRe: Why Kaduna Train Attackers Invaded Kuje Prison – Sources by Litmus:
Nigerians must not allow the "Mole" and "Saboteurs" idea to become an ingrained narrative however much you everyday Nigerians love this type of notion. If you people do, you are finished. It is a rabbit-hole you don't want to descend.

The problem is incompetency and disorganisation. Why have authority been unable to discover where the train passengers kidnappers are? The entire episode took place in broad daylight. The kidnapers are unintelligent rabbles that came in mass, they shot up the place, killed passengers and took other passengers away all in broad daylight and you mean to tell me Nigeria authorities arn't able to trace these people? How possible is this? In terms of forensic, the kidnappers, bandits or whatever couldn't be more generous. Nigeria's intelligence community is, as the president suggest, abysmal, if the tiny black, ragtag, barefooted pickaninnies that swell the ranks of these groups can bamboozle them so !

There are no Moles natthing!

The Moles and spies under the bed, hiding in the wardrobe way of thinking is just an inevitable progression by and of a people that believe in witches and wizards that thrive in a system without evidence . It's the same psychology of the mysterious unknown doing things or being the ones responsible for things we don't want to admit we cant revolve methodically because we are too stupid or don't want to expend the effort (sustained effort) required to solve them.

Reacting to events over anticipating and thus being able to handle events when events occur as anticipated are evidence of a disorganised system. Nigeria's foundational problem is Disorganisation not as Obi says the economy.

All types of Good and Intention topples down and smashes to pieces on the bedrock of disorganisation. Mighty hills can grow out of even nothing due to organizations, see the ants and termites.

FreeStuffsNG:
For most folks like you, you do not value what you have until you lose it. Thank God for President Muhammadu Buhari. May God bless him and bless Nigeria.

That is why we do not take our successes in Lagos for granted. We Lagosians suffered more than the rest of the country prior to 1999 and it was that our resolve never to allow that kind of suffering happen again in our land that has kept us on our toes in Lagos since 1999 when the amazingly talented Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu took over the rein from Col. Buba Marwa.

Today, our economy in Lagos is bigger than the economy of the whole of Ghana. Amongst our many feats in Lagos is the Lekki deep seaport, conceived 13 years ago by Asiwaju Tinubu, that recieved its first cargo ship this week. This deep seaport is the first in Nigeria and the best in West Africa.
You can draw inspiration from our success story in Lagos wink

If you are suffering in Nigeria now, it is because you have been outcompeted. You probably waste your time online and on social media.

While you stay online and lament, other young focused ambitious Nigerians are competing for the same opportunities you seek.

Those eventual winners do not have time for nairaland and the social media. They do not even have time for pity or lamentation party.

That you do not know how terrible and worse the Ghaniaians case is alone says a lot about how conversant you are about their state yet very quick to disparage my Fatherland.

Ghana redenominated their old cedis in 2007 by knocking off four zeros and between then and now their new cedis has lost value by over ten times such that one new cedi is an equivalent of 100K old cedis or more!

Thankfully, my late President Yardua stopped Prof. Soludo from that dangerous experiment of redenominating the naira and today naira has not been redenominated. My N100K in 2017 is not today worth N1 or less. I thank God and late HE Yardua for stopping Soludo.

Ghana was one of the countries that the IMF and others cancelled their debts completely unlike Nigeria that had to pay about $18 billion during the Pa Obj era yet today, Ghana is back in so much debt even more than it was before her debts were forgiven.

Between 2020 and last year, it was so bad for Ghana that they ran out of forex and had to be bailed out by IMF with $1 billion and Ghana is not yet out of the woods. Last Ghana inflation number was approximately 50% and still not abating amidst high unemployment and scarcity of goods and foods.

Their Ghana stock exchange is nothing to write home about yet this year 2022 alone, our own Nigeria Stock exchange has broken and exceeded the record it last reached before the 2018 global meltdown, printing money for local investors and one of the best in the world so far https://nairametrics.com/2022/07/03/nigerian-stock-market-end-first-half-of-2022-as-one-of-the-best-in-the-world/

Thank God that CBN under Emefiele blocked the useless fraudulent cryto ponzi, the favorite 'food' of lazy and gullible Nigerian youths, may be by now the fraudsters behind crypto and nfts would have killed the naira and most of the "greater fool" liquidated 80K crypto millionaires would have come from Nigeria!

Ghana struggles to pay us for the energy we export to them and when we closed our border, Ghana was on her knees economically and politically while their effort at frustrating some of our nationals in Ghana also backfired.

Ghana has a bizarre and very primitive business system that forbids a foreigner from registering a business and owning a company in their small country unlike Nigeria where CAC is very liberal.
Watch how many of them will get to Nigeria now and start their own businesses yet we do not discriminate against them. Nigeria is a big brother to Ghana and we have always bailed them out.

Ghanaians are in soup but thank God they have a big brother and a second home in Nigeria. The original and current traditional landowners in their capital are ethnic Yoruba who migrated to Ghana from Ile Ife like a century ago and they have since traced back their origin to Ile Ife where Ooni assured them that they will always be welcomed back home.

So while the Yoruba in Nigeria are doing well there are things the descendants of Yoruba in Ghana are not doing well but can always rediscover and get back on their feet.

Nigeria is a safe haven for Ghanaians and Nigeria is far far ahead of Ghana.

A white kidnapee will stand out like a ripe nose carbuncle amidst his kidnapers and the general local Edo society. Someone somewhere was bound to see a distressed looking lone white dude among stern-faced group of black ones. Don't be surprised if it turns out that the kidnapee was rescued by police only because the kidnapers had broken cover in a bid to get rid of their victim. smiley
