The irony could be as a result of either women not being able to act against the polygamy law which they dislike or are being pressured by men into such marriages.

I'm not entirely with him on the aspect of completely 're-defining' and 're-interpreting' scripture to fit our modern times. Just because a belief is 'old' doesn't mean it should be thrown away.
