I know good muslims. My girlfriend is one- she doesnt drink or smoke but prays 5 times a day. However, the most approachable muslims are the ones that drink and take cocaine (poor people can not afford cocaine, its crack cocaine that is cheap). These muslims are dont fear Dawah- they will party with you as long as you're cool. Many of your Nigerian leaders have druggies as children.


That is the main problem with islam. I can mix with anybody and learn from them. I am a liberal person who doesnt smoke, take drugs or have casual sex but I can mix with different kinds of people from pork-eaters, to rich cocaine junkies, to buddhist, to gays etc. I dont discriminate. You on the other hand would faint if you see two women kissing.

1) the individual (You dont need god or the ten commandments to know killing is bad)

rastamouse: These are the kind of answers that you should expect with your kind of question . On a serious note, I will tell you that Christianity is a choice. We don't go into it for what we will gain but because we want to be in it.

Since you shared your life today, let me also share mine with you...

I have been a Christian all my life. Like every other mortal being, except JESUS of course, my walk with GOD has been anything but perfect. I have fallen many times than I had risen. I have struggled all my life to live the life that I believed GOD wanted. My breakthrough however came about just a year ago under very strange circumstances...

Before the experience, I had grown to be a worse person. I was involved in all sins imaginable, not the criminal ones though. I will go out and drink with my friends and chasing girls was the best part of my life despite the fact that I was happily married with two beautiful kids.

On that fateful day, I was heavily drunk as usual and returned to the house. I just called our house girl and told her that she should go and sleep naked (my wife told me this). When wife heard it and confronted the girl. The girl was also very surprised and repeated what I said to my wife. I was so drunk that I never knew when I slept off that night...

However, at about 3 am, I felt a shadow on me. When I opened my eyes, my wife was standing over me and praying for me. She was crying as she did so. Nothing changed inside of me but I remember that I laughed in my head and went back to sleep...

The very next day, my life changed. I had this strange dream. In the dream, I was in a bus traveling with a lot of people. There were in fact two buses and I was in the smaller one. The bus got to a rest stop and I got down to buy something. However, after some time, I found myself wandering very far from the bus. All of a sudden, it occurred to me that I was traveling. I had all along forgotten that I was in a bus and traveling. Strangely enough, I was all alone when I was out of the bus. I then decided to get back to the bus.

I walked for sometime and saw the bus parked at exactly the place that I went off. The two drivers of the buses were standing beside the buses and as soon as they saw me, they hugged each other in a happy mood and beckoned me to come to the bus quickly. I ran to the bus and entered it.

The other passengers were complaining that I had kept the bus waiting but the drivers were very happy for me. They got into the buses and we continued on the journey. I woke up as soon as the buses started moving.

When I woke up, I found that something had left my body. I was light and immediately saw the mess that my life was in. I quickly got on my knees and started praying for forgiveness of my sins. I cried for hours while confessing each and every sin. Afterwards, sin became so irritating to me and my walk with the LORD became a very easy thing. I have been falling along but I am definitely a better person and my wife is of course my hero.

I thank the LORD for a praying wife

Cool story but you forget something;

1) You were not "sinning" because you were an atheist. You were a christian

2) Your wife might have prayed but redemption could only come from you

3) There was no Jesus in your dream

OLAADEGBU: There is an already made answer for you. You don't have to trust your feelings you have to trust God to come true on His promises. If I make a promise to my wife, that promise is binding whether she later feels happy or sad. If she then doubts my word that means that she doen't trust my integrity.

If you genuinely repent of your sins and put your trust in our Lord Jesus Christ you will be saved regardless of how you feel afterwards. Our Lord Jesus Christ promises that

"He that has my commandments, and keeps them, he it is that loves me: and he that loves me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him" (John 14:21) The Evidence Bible.

That is the ultimate challenge Jesus has given us and it is up to us to take Him up on this challenge. There is the promise but it comes with a condition. Any person who loves and obeys Jesus will begin a supernatural relationship with Him and the Father. He also declared that:

"And this is eternal life, that they might know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent" (John 17:3) The Evidence Bible.

This doesn't mean that you must see visions or hear voices but it means that God will regenerate you and make you have a new heart with new desires, you will then be free to choose not to sin because you are a new person from within. God will send His Holy Spirit to live inside you and you will immediately become conscious of God and His creation. The Scriptures will become a living Word, and you will have an inner witness that you are saved and that your name is written in the book of life in heaven.

Olaadegbu. Thanks for the encouragement but all the christians I see fail to explain what or who is this God. Tell them to expalin how God feels in their mind and body and they start quoting scriptures.

Like I said earlier, Islam gives a sense of direction, I don't just do things because everybody is doing them, I don't have doubts about morality, what is right or wrong and why. All of those things are addressed. I don't have to learn the hard way that drinking, smoking, fornication, vulgarity etc. are bad. It all comes naturally. I am not afraid of the unseen or unknown. You will not believe the number of adults that are afraid of being in a dark room just because they are at the mercy of their imagination and are without knowledge of what can and what can't harm them and how to protect themselves.

Islam gives me strength and conviction wherever I go- it helps me become as close as possible to being the best I can truly be. Maslow's self-actualization readily comes to mind here. A good Muslim will be very close to this level on his hierachy of needs because by default he always tries his best and is at ease even if he does not always get or achieve what he wants.

Islam keeps me at peace with myself, other people, my environment and best of all my creator.

Thank you for your answer. However, how does your islam help you with Dawah. Islam does help with discipline (Kai, I watch my girlfriend waking up to pray- not an easy thing to do everyday 5 times). However, I find that many muslims (In my opinion) are seriously afraid to debate their beliefs with unbelievers

It was about being free to love people despite their shortcomings, realising that in this world, logic usually gets us what we want and desire, and that faith can not be proven. It's also coming to a realization that no religion has a monopoly on faith. Adherents of all religions will interpret events based on what they've been told, what they've experienced. A SINGULAR EXPERIENCE maybe UNIVERSAL, but its INTERPRETATION will most times be based on the environment it occurs in.

You did not provide answers to me. Surely, Islam is more than halal food and not engaging in haram alcohol. The irony is that I eat a lot of Halal food because I have a muslim girlfriend and the last time I touched alcohol was last year. I only drink when there is a reason to drink.

I can not show my girlfriend this thread. It's bad enough that make fun of her when she has to spend time in the supermarket looking for halal products or when I tease her for being ashamed of the burkha/niqab
