I once believed in this myth. A large majority , I dare say up to 95% of the English might believe in God and only stay away from church because of the mess that has been created by the American prosperity movement and catholic church , together with a sense of self-sufficiency , hence no need for God in their arrogance.

Remove the log from your own eyes before you try to remove the speck from another's eyes. For the christians,let family matters remain within the family(in this case,the church).
