ManUtdholic:OK, let's meet here when the official result is finally announced. Do not run away from the forum, like the more sensible and intelligent of the PDP supporters have done, after knowing what they know about the actual votes cast for GMB and GEJ so far. Only the less informed PDP goons who ERRONEOUSLY and FALLACIOUSLY think simply because the PDP has been rigging election at the centre previously, would do it again this time around, and announce that GEJ as the winner even though Buhari clearly has THE MOST total votes, and would CLEARLY secure more than 25% in the required 2/3 of the states. As I said, just let's wait and see. |
Congratulations to him. That's is the beauty of free and fair election; majority should always carry the vote. And that is why the PDP should know that although they have been rigging elections at the centre for so many years in collaboration with the security agencies, they should STOP contemplating doing it this time around. They need to fully understand that the present circumstances are ENTIRELY DIFFERENT from all the previous ones; the stakes are MUCH HIGHER, the potential risks for miscalculation are MORE POTENT, and the predictable and unpredictable consequences would be far GREATER and MORE SERIOUSLY DANGEROUS. This is simply because the Nigerian citizens are far more informed and have much more readily available and instant way of accessing and spreading information, and the opposition have much more muscle, are more formidable and far more organized, more determined, and much more nationally spread, than in all previous cases of fragrant subversion of people's electoral choices. And GEJ and PDP must be fully aware that the popular mandate Buhari/Osinbanjo has just got from Nigerians is a mandate that emanates from THE ORDINARY POEOPLE from all the regions, and across all ethnic and religious divides; and as such, any attempt by anybody to snatch the mandate would amount to daring the ordinary people from across the country. And as history has shown, no matter how powerful a leader thinks he/she is, there is no way he/she can be more powerful than his/her people; all those who tried it in the past, were eventually proved wrong, as they invariably got crushed by the sheer weight of the people power and condemned to the dark part of history in the end. |
Abagworo:Yes, it is good to see that unlike in 2011, the progressive people of SE/SS are challenging the PDP's massive rigging antics that were so aided and abetted so freely, and almost by everybody in the two regions during the 2011 election. Although the PDP have been rigging elections at the centre for so many years in collaboration with the security agencies, those who are contemplating doing it this time around need to think twice. NewsHub:Rest assured bro. that it will NOT happen! I fully understand your apprehension and concerns, considering the history of our democratic experiences as a nation, which has been characterized by various forms of imperfections of the electoral process, including what you highlighted, i.e. complete disregard of the actual result by announcing the loser as the winner, which is the worst form of travesty of democracy. But even as desperate as GEJ and PDP goons are, they are not oblivious to the fact that the present circumstances are entirely different from all the previous ones; the stakes are much higher, the potential risks for miscalculation are more potently grave; and the Nigerian citizens are far more informed and have much more readily available and instant way of accessing and spreading information, than in all the known previous cases of fragrant subversion of their electoral choices. In a nutshell, GEJ and PDP must be fully aware that the popular mandate Buhari/Osinbanjo has just got from Nigerians is a mandate that largely emanates from the ordinary people from all the regions, and across all ethnic and religious divides; as such, any attempt by anybody to snatch the mandate would amount to daring the ordinary people from across the country. |
Though I was not banned, I have not been able to post any comment on NL for days, apparently because a mfcking loser among the GEJ-supporting NL mods blocked my account. How pathetic! I wonder how could that save GEJ from the crushing and humiliating defeat today. |
Why I’m being attacked over card readers — Jega By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA—Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Attahiru Jega, Wednesday, said he has no regrets for insisting on deploying Smart Card Reader machines for the conduct of the general election, saying he knew that the decision would attract unwarranted attacks on his integrity as a person. Would-be riggers the ones crying foul, says INEC boss Jega, who stated this while unveiling the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room in Abuja yesterday,, maintained that it is only those that hitherto nurtured plans to fraudulently manipulate the outcome of the elections, that have been crying foul over the introduction of the technology which he said would only add credibility to the electoral process in the country. He said that INEC had perfected all its strategies and put every apparatus in place with a view to ensuring a hitch free poll that will reflect the summative choice of Nigerians. “Let me use this opportunity to reassure Nigerians that we believe that we have done everything possible to ensure that the 2015 general election is successful. We are adequately prepared in terms of both logistics and manpower. Likewise, all the security agencies, especially the police which have a lead role to play in terms of providing security during elections, have assured us that they are ready. mikeansy:OP, the real EXERCISE IN FUTILITY here is your thinking that what you posted would succeed at all in smearing the people's general so badly that people would be scared of voting for him and, change their minds at this last hour. Please go and ask FFK, Fayose and others who have been smearing GMB almost on daily basis, has it ever been effective? And is there any bigger exercise in futility than spending billions of dollars on a campaign that is almost solely based on tarnishing the good reputation of one person, yet you watch helplessly as the popularity of the person keeps soaring, and soaring until he eventually cruises to victory, before your very eyes? |
2Brains1:Amen |
It is an incontrovertible fact that the corrupt thieving elite of Nigeria would never forget GEJ's administration; they have never had it so good, getting away with looting of billions yet getting re-assurances from the president himself that he would not send any of them to jail, as along as he is the president. Meanwhile, the vast majority of ordinary hardworking Nigerians continue to wallow in abject poverty, finding it increasingly difficult to feed their families, for no fault of theirs. The millions of unemployed Nigerian youths roaming the streets today must have been enduring not only the biting poverty prevalent in the country, but also the psychological trauma of watching their hardworking parents suffering so much; after their poor parents have spent so much of their resources, time and energy to educate them, yet they cannot get any gainful employment to help their parents when they need their help so badly! Whether GEJ agrees or not, corruption is at the very heart of almost all our problems today, and without tackling it head-on, we cannot progress as a nation. And because GEJ has so far proved that he CANNOT fight this evil monster (corruption), he really needs to give way to someone who CAN. |
True talk, Gowon. That is why it is a very healthy political development for our country to continue to have more great Igbo sons and daughters like Rochas Okorocha, Amaechi, joe igbokwe, Obiageli Ezekwesili, Abagworo (Nairaland), GeneralBuhari (Nairaland), Ezechi (Nairaland), Berem (Nairaland) and MANY other Igbos who fully understand the significance of building bridges with peoples from the other regions. Although some narrow-minded ethnic jingoists among their fellow Igbos always lambast them for this; and although some misguided and confused, mainly foreign-based, Igbos also undermine them, wittingly or unwittingly, by their pointless secessionist posturings, I can assure these Igbo bridge-builders that their efforts are being fully appreciated by non-Igbos. And I have no doubt in my mind that one of these bridge-builders (or some others of their kinsmen) would one day reap the rewards of their excellent job of reaching out to other Nigerians, with so much open mind. When (and not if) the time comes, I will personally campaign for Okorocha, Amaechi or Obiageli Ezekwesili, whole-heartedly, and with my own resources (and expecting no material returns whatsoever from them), just as my own token of appreciation and reciprocity to them, for the sacrifices they made in enduring so much venomous hatred from their misguided kinsmen simply because they choose to live beyond ethnic/religious bigotry. |
berryblaze5:Pray that it does not happen, because it is NOT looking good for anybody, not even the C-I-C himself! Were that to happen, we should ALL be afraid, very afraid, of the consequences. History is replenish with many instances of political leaders who had ERRONEOUSLY thought that because they had near-absolute control over the state instruments of coercion and intimidation, they could subvert the WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Eventually, and virtually with NO exception, all those power-drunkard fascist dictators who dared their people were swept aside by the SHEER PEOPLE POWER. Nobody is more powerful than his people. And the consequences of daring the will of the people are so gravely dangerous, and highly unpredictable, that most of those who deluded themselves by thinking that they had prepared enough, or were protected enough, were proved terribly, terribly wrong; as the fire they started spiraled out of control and grew into a raging conflagration, they and their loved ones were eventually consumed by it as well. So all those who are considering taking a dangerous step that is potentially capable of plunging our dear country into chaos, should think twice, not only for our interests but for THEIR own interests as well; and not only for the sake of our children, but for the sake of THEIR children as well! |

Sweetguy25:OMG! And your moniker is 'sweetguy' ? The unwarranted and unprovoked bitterness you expressed here against the 'abokiis' makes mockery of your moniker. Hence, 'bitterguy25' would describe you more appropriately. |
1. The joke is now actually on the army of half-educated PDP goons who, due to their desperation to find anything negative against GMB, or due to sheer intellectual deficiency (or both), were so easily deceived by the unscrupulous, dishonest, unprofessional and compromised 'journalists' who threw the ethics of their profession to the dogs and shamelessly fabricated a lie against the people's general. 2. It is a shame that the intellectually deficient and the morally bankrupt who do not care about the truth, still continue to ascribe the fabricated remark to GMB, even though there is NO WHERE the people's general mentions that he would 'make naira equal in value to dollar'!. 3. You do not need any professional journalistic training to know that for this news story to have been given the headline it was given, the body of the story would reasonably be expected to have a direct quote of GMB explaining in his own words this issue of utmost policy significance. 4. Although this would not matter much for those who have decided either way, such a direct quote would allow enlightened, unbiased minds to join the debate and judge him fairly; more importantly, it would portray the NAN reporter and the Vanguard online editor as objective and fair journalists. 5. If there is no direct quote of GMB saying he would 'make naira equal in value to dollar' in the entire original story, then how come this conjecture was made the headline of the news story? 6. And since there is only one direct quote of GMB in there whole story (“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar; this does not speak well for the nation’s economy,’’), why wasn't the headline of the story based on that quoted remark? 7. Well, the answer to the two questions above is clear: the dishonest reporter of NAN (one of the FG's mouthpieces) or the corrupt and compromised Vanguard's online 'editor' knew exactly what he/she wanted to achieve, which is, to serve his/her PDP paymasters by playing along their campaign strategy of damaging the image and reputation of GMB as badly as they can. 8. But it is quite heart-warming to see that in spite of all the billion-dollar campaigns of calumny against Buhari, the popularity of the people's general is only rising all over the country. 9. Even in the SE/SS/MB, the political terrain has completely changed from 2011 in favour of the amiable general, as a result of which he is now SURELY going to get a far BIGGER SHARE of the SE/SS/BM votes on Saturday, while GEJ's share of the NW/NE/SW votes is going to SHRINK drastically from what it was in 2011. 10. Simply compare GMB's highly successful rally in Imo yesterday, and the reception he got naturally from the ordinary people on the street, with the situation in 2011, when his chances in the SE were so slim, his campaign resources so meagre, and the structure of his party (CPC) so scantily present that he could not even manage to campaign at all in the region. |

bushdoc9919:Yes, but the thrust of my original post is that GMB is going to do MUCH BETTER even in Plateau and Benue states than his performance in 2011, just like he is set to do better in SE and SS, at the expense of GEJ. |
jomonic:Yes, merit should ideally be paramount in any consideration for electing a president of a country. However, considering the realities of a multi-ethnic and multi-religious developing country like Nigerian, there is also the need to give a sense of belonging to each constituent entities making up the country. And given our history of having an unfortunate civil war, that need for equal political opportunity to all the regions becomes even greater and more imperative. |
1. The most important thing for GMB is the fact that unlike in 2011 when GEJ got block vote from 'his Christian brothers and sisters' in the MB, MANY people in the BM who voted for GEJ in 2011, including MANY pastors who actively campaigned for him then, are now not only going to vote for GMB but are openly campaigning for him. 2. This is because it must have dawned on the northern Christians that it is NOT in the interests of anybody to vote for an incompetent president even if you share the same religion with him/her. 3. When GMB and GEJ campaigned in the heart of the MB, we saw clearly how the political terrain of the region has completely changed in favour of the people's general; not only did Buhari pull much larger crowds, but the mammoth crowds who turned for Buhari rallies in the area were much more passionate and enthusiastic; like in the rest of the country, Buhari must have been overwhelmed by the strong desire and yearning for change among the ordinary people of the MB. 4. So it is a fact that in the MB, SS and SE regions, where GEJ got a free, unchallenged ride in 2011, the political dynamics are so different this time around that GMB is SURELY going to get a far BIGGER SHARE of the votes from the regions than what he got in 2011. 5. On the other hand, GEJ's share of the NW/NE/SW votes is SURELY going to SHRINK drastically from what it was in 2011. 6. The contrast between 2011 and 2015 can hardly be sharper than what was witnessed yesterday in Imo, where large crowds were shown genuinely and passionately yearning for change, unlike in 2011, when GMB's chances in the SE were so slim, his campaign resources so meagre, and the structure of his party (CPC) so scanty on the grounds that he barely campaigned at all in the region. |
AnyibestDede:Do not despair, bro. It MUST come one day, as long as we remain one country. To the non-Igbos, people like Rochas Okorocha, Amaechi, joe igbokwe, Abagworo (Nairaland), GeneralBuhari (Nairaland), Ezechi (Nairaland) and Berem (Nairaland) and MANY other Igbo men and women are doing an excellent job in building bridges with peoples from the other regions. When will the Igbo presidency be? on March 24, 2015 / in Viewpoint 5:21 am / Comments IF Hon. James Manager wins in the forthcoming general elections to represent the people of Delta South Senatorial district in the ‘Green chamber’, equity, justice and fairness would have lost their true meaning to the aggrieved Itsekiris and Isokos of the same senatorial district. Amidst deafened protest in 2013 against Manager’s second term in the place of an Itsekiri candidate whose turn it was to represent the district at the senate, Manager was imposed on the people. An action which starred the hornet nest and caused so much disaffections among the Itsekiris and Isokos political class who have been victims of Manager’s manipulation. Manager’s shenanigan broke down completely the mutual understanding between the three ethnic groups to rotate the senate seat a single term bases. It is commonplace to hear of ‘mutual agreement and rotation’ among stalwarts of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, (PDP). Why such agreement among the three ethnic groups in Delta South Senatorial district was frustrated, abused and jettisoned by James Manager and his lieutenants is beyond comprehension. For the Itsekiris and the Isokos who are principal victims of this manipulation, the mutual trust between the former ethnic nationalities and the Ijaws of the same district would for a long time to come suffer frustration unless something bold and drastic is done about the imposition on the other two tribes in the district by the leadership of the Peoples’ Democratic Party. Nonetheless, signs are ominous that the PDP is in for the worst and humiliating defeat in this senatorial district since the inception of the party. Let me quickly add here that not all Ijaws are in support of Manager’s imposition. Hence, to say that some discerning Ijaws in the state are brooding over Manager’s ‘third coming’ to the senate is stating the obvious. It is the duty of this minds therefore to callJames Manager to order or at best desert him to keep the unity of purpose in Delta South. This is not intended to whip up undue sentiment or cry wolf where none exist. Yet, the truth must be told because only fairness and justice can guarantee peaceful coexistence among people of diversified ethnic backgrounds. It is sad that it is only in Delta south that this kind of Manager’s impunity can take place. Manager had openly aborted the agreement entered into by the older generation of politicians from the district without the least respect for fairness and decency. Unlike what is obtainable in other senatorial districts of the state, the agreement to rotate the seat among the different ethnic groups in the district was arrogantly messed up by this politics of attrition and personality assassination. In Delta North for instance, we have the Osimilis, the Ikas, the Aniochas and the Ukwanis bond peacefully together as a result of each ethnic group abiding by the agreement to have the senatorial seat for one term and relinquish the seat for another ethnic group on expiration of the former’s four year-term. The same practice and understanding is obtainable in Delta Central where we have the Agbons in majority yet share with the Udos, the Uvhwes and the Okpes. Such is the demonstration of an egalitarian society, not the repressive and hostile political atmosphere which Manager’s action is capable of plunging Delta south into should he have another smooth sail to the Senate in 2015. ----- ------ --- Igbo nation needs to re-invent itself, it needs holistic reorientation and strategic repositioning. The Igbo people need political pragmatism to enable them take their authentic political position after the tenure of Ebele Jonathan or Buhari, which is the producing of the Executive President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. --- - The Igbo self-induced political quandary and dilemma could be likened to that of the comrades of Ulysses in the cave of the Cyclops in the Greek mythology, Homer’s lliad and the Odyssey. They loved their slavish conditions and servitude like the Ibos love their political servitude in Nigeria. The Igbo people will continue to stew in the political slavery in Nigeria because they cannot take the bull by the horn and drive it out of their political china shop. What a shame! They should however, note that, if they fail to produce the next President after Ebele Jonathan or Buhari, they will continue to dwell in the epicenter of political limbo in Nigeria. -- It was the same Igbo people that stabbed their own Alex Ekueme on the back during the PDP CONVENTION that led to Obasanjo’s victory. The people are politically mysterious and a bunch of ventriloquists. Their political idiosyncrasies defy classification and surgeonizotion. The Igbo people should put on their thinking hats now. This is an unsolicited, thankless and gratuitous advice to the Igbo people. I am reluctantly compelled to say this not because the Igbo people do not know what is politically wrong with them, but because they lack the political will and matadorial élan to effect a holistic strategic repositioning of themselves within the political ambit of Nigeria. I further dare suggest that the Igbo nation should call for on Igbo National Confab to address the issue of an Ibo President after Ebele Jonathan or Buhari. We are aware of the existence of many Igbo corybantic political black legs, lily-livered conscience mortgaging stooges and nihilistic revisionist. But Igbo people must move forward notwithstanding who ox is gored. We are not calling for a reenactment of the Biafra struggle or war, but we are identifying the basic truth that the Igbo people are making rubbish of the glorious revolution by not standing up for their rights. It is clear that all the problems that led to the Nigeria/Biafra civil war still exist in Nigeria till today. - ---- - - - - Finally, as we march with uncertainty towards the 2015 elections, let Igbo nation come to the realization that it is their place, destiny and time to present an Executive President for Nigeria after Ebele Jonathan or Buhari. No other agenda is worthy of pursuit. They should get together and present only one Ibo candidate for the presidential election after Ebele Jonathan or Buhari and let every Ibo man stand by that candidate and I know and believe many other Nigerians will stand with the Igbo candidate. The English Playwright William Shakespeare posits that “there is tide in the affairs of man, which when taken at the floods leads on to fortune, omitted, all the voyages in their lives are bound in tempestuous waves”. A Chinese sage said, “It is the friends and relatives of the madman that are ashamed of him. He is never ashamed of himself”. But l am ashamed of the Igbo man’s political attitude. I pray they make me proud in the years ahead. Let them not allow the bait of creation of more states in the South-East overwhelm their political position. Let APGA, OHANEZE-NDIGBO, MASSOB, IGBO YOUTH CONGRESS, IGBO ELDERS AND ALL INTEREST GROUPS speak with one voice and stand in a political Indian file for the Igbo course. It is the Igbo turn to produce the President after Ebele Jonathan or Buhari. IGBO PRESIDENT: IS IT AFTER THE ARMAGEDDON? People power is beginning to take roots in Nigeria; gradually, all our armed security operatives would come to terms with the fact that in a democratic setting, the ultimate power lies with the ordinary people, the voters, whom the security agents are so much used to harassing, brutalizing with little or no provocation. Sooner rather than later, God willing, we shall have a country where no police/army officer would be behaving as if they are above the law; so it is good that Prof. Jega maintained his grounds that as far as the electoral law is concerned, the voters have the right to wait and see the counting of the votes; and it is equally heartening to see the IG backtrack. |
fitzmayowa:That is why we have professional journalists, who are expected to have the professional training and sense of moral responsibility to filter out propanganda and falsehoods from facts and present them as news reports, which are different from opinions and views of the journalists themselves. So even if the two parties, PDP and APC, are engaged in propapanda and counter-propaganda against each other, a professional journalist that is worth his/her name should be guided by the long-standing ethics of the pen profession, which include accuracy, impartiality and objectivity. |

fallout87:1. It is quite pathetic how intellectually lazy people have become these days, making it so easy for unscrupulous, dishonest, unprofessional and compromised 'journalists' to deceive so many people, for so long, without the gullible lot realizing it. 2. Otherwise, how come that this clear misrepresentation of GMB's remark would reach so many pages of comments on NL yet nobody was enable to figure out that even by the original story on Vanguard, there is NO WHERE the people's general mentions that he would 'make naira equal in value to dollar'!. 6. And there is only one direct quote of GMB in there whole story (“It is sad that the value of the naira has dropped to more than N230 to one dollar; this does not speak well for the nation’s economy,’’), why wasn't the headline of the story based on that quoted remark? 7. Well, the answers to the two questions above are clear: the dishonest reporter of NAN (one of the FG's mouthpieces) or the corrupt and compromised Vanguard's online 'editor' knew exactly what he/she wanted to achieve, which is, to serve his PDP paymasters by playing along their campaign strategy of damaging the image and reputation of GMB as badly as they can. |
