You are an Hb C carrier. You don't have the disease. You're heterozygous for the trait so you're fine. However you should be careful not to marry an Hb C carrier too. You might bring forth offsprings that are homozygous for Hb C and he/she might end up with the disease. Google "haemoglobin C disease". As for you, you're fine.

oluafolabi: Lol.. Errrm.. You shouldn't be afraid, from what I know and heard from seniors, they said smartness is just one of the criteria for med school, consistency is still the most important. We have some average students who are consistent with reading flogging some smart guys!
If you haven't learnt anything from this thread till now, the bolded is enough. Most of us learnt this the hard way.

Doc_Miss: Is it true that ur G.P has to be eqivalent to that of a first class student before you can be promoted. And I heard Medical students don't sleep shockedshocked.. Do I have to do Math or/and Physics for the first three years or just for 100L.. And do Medical students have their own hostel..? Thanks
1) Different medical schools have different criteria for promoting. In most schools, in 100 level , you need at least a pass grade in all your courses(some schools use science courses only). As for the rest of the years, the criterion of promoting depends on passing your professional examinations. Where I come from, a pass grade starts from 50%.

2) Maths and physics are just for 100 level.

3) Medical students have their own hostels.

Fedric: Lentigo maligna
melanoma, also known as
Hutchinson melanotic
freckle, is a
large, pigmented macule
that occurs on sun-
damaged skin.
It develops almost
exclusively in fair-skinned,
usually elderly,
whites.
ALKONOMI correct guy. More power to your elbow.
I hope you are aware that lentigo maligna melanoma is a rare variant of malignant melanoma

EducationRe: The medical students and aspirants thread by lomaxx: 3:10pm On Jul 28, 2013
Lagusta: but a malignant melanoma isn't usually flat, or is it
Hyperpigmented macules or patches is usually typical of melanomas. Basal cell and squamous cell CA have variable presentations( nodular, plaques , and sometimes ulcerated papules ).

Two things gave the question away
1) chronic sun exposure leads to two common skin changes: ageing changes ( wrinkles et al) and skin cancer.
2) hyperpigmentation has to do with increased melanin production and deposition. So it had to be melanocytes.
EducationRe: The medical students and aspirants thread by lomaxx: 2:51pm On Jul 28, 2013
Lagusta: hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation?

could be a sunburn anyway
Skin discolouration always refers to hyperpigmentation. I learnt this from one dermatologic post on Linda Ikeji's blog sometime ago.

Fedric: Just like as i have promise to be giving you guys questions. To refresh your celebrum on this strick. Here i come my doctors,..............A 70-year-old woman

discoloration. The
patient is observed to
have a flat pigmented
lesion on the

I've been reading some posts about the fear of physics, mathematics etc amongst MBBS aspirants and MBBS students in situ. There's nothing to be afraid of. Una own better sef.
I was an Arts student in FGC, Ikom. Finished as an Arts student; wrote O'levels in Arts only. Then left secondary school and decided to study Medicine.
I had never done physics before. Never did chemistry. The only science subject I did was biology. But I still wanted Medicine.
Between May/June 2007 and Nov/Dec 2008, I read physics and chemistry on my own, attended a few lessons, sat for WASSCE Nov/Dec that year in the science and arts subjects, smashed them, went on to JAMB & post-UTME smashed them too.
It was in the university during my pre-medical year that the paranoia of physics and chemistry chased me considering where I came from. It was even worse. University physics & chemistry was a lil tougher. But I had all As in all- first and second semester.
And this is where the relevance of this post comes in. You had done the science subjects (physics, maths, etc) in your secondary school. So you have a strong foundation. Or at least, you have a foundation. You have an advantage. Fear not; for the physics you see today, you shall see them no more

How are you doing?
I'm smooth...and happy that I'm well oriented in person, place and time grin. A colleague dragged me to his birthday bash last night...left my books and ran along. Been a while I had such fun.
Asides that, I've been battling with ACT resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum. My poor compliance to ACTs finally paid off. You can't imagine what I've been taking for the past 4 days(oral 600mg of quinine + 100mg of doxycycline q8hr). It's my only shot. I hope to get better soon.
