RomanceRe: So difficult to find a nigerian Girl you can take home to mama in London by LondonCool(m): 1:44am On Apr 19, 2007
a lot of naija girls in london are similar to me; they have good jobs/careers, home and respect themselves not to hang with some jobless, flat-sharing man (black, white or naija) who will only sponge off them, use them for casual relationships and them leave them as single mothers
@tega78,

I get your point but you cant make stereotypical sweeping statements about flat-sharing men,especially Nigerian men without creating a fallacy of over-generalisation. Most of us hard-working Nigerian men did start life in UK by Flat-sharing which is always a starting point to life in UK. It does not mean they are retrogressive or less amibitous or successful than those fortunate to get a mortgage or rent their own flat apartments outright. Life is in phases and men are in sizes. You may meet a man at different phases of his life and choose whether or not you want to be part of the journey. A playa will always be a playa whether he owns a mortgage or shares a flat.Wise -up my Sista and wake up to the smell of coffee.

GNature:
Tinapa is a laudable project, no doubt, but a billion dollars yearly ? You sure about this ?
This what Donald Duke said in 2004 during the laying of the foundation stone of Tinapa,

At the project signing ceremony, Duke disclosed that the state was targeting at least N300 billion annually from the economic and commercial activities that would be generated at the Tinapa. He hinged his optimism on the calculation that from the feasibility report, at least 3 million people were expected at the Tinapa annually. If each of those visitors were to carry a minimum of N100,000 for shopping and leisure, which is by all account modest, that would translate into about N300, billion annually inflows into the state.
He said if the multiplier effect of 3.5 per cent was to be applied, then the inflows would run into trillions on naira in the first few years after the scheduled launching of the project in September 2006. From this, he said Cross Riverians would be able to take advantage of the enormous business opportunities that are likely to emerge.

Trust that there are now plans to capitalize on tinapa.   15 minute boat ride and you land at TINAPA,

"One other high point of the course is the jetty access to the course which, the state governor says, is a 15-minute access to the TINAPA business facility. And definitely it is expected to be one of its highest patrons including the five star Le Meridien Hotel that is the icing of the resort."
Its nice that other State Governments are riding on the Tinapa bandwagon to implement their own Tourists policies albeit Akwa Ibom did not make any financial contribution to its development unlike Rivers State Govt that contributed N1billion in equity investment. However, I do not agree with the "SPIN" (or what Sir Winston Churchill would call TERMINLOGICAL INEXACTITUDES) that the proposed jetty access is a 15 minute stride along the River to the Tinapa Resort. Even if the jetty were to be placed by the Calabar-Itu bridge border along the Cross River/Calabar River axis it can never take 15 minutes.Its an intentional lie to create commercial capital from the Tinapa success. To access Tinapa Buiness Resort by sea from Akwa Ibom ,it can only be done from the Oron Boat Jetty (which takes around 1 hour) or from Itu (which would create navigation problems because of the winding route up the river-the same route used by Mary Slessor).

@promise72,
Thanks for the advice; I will definitely add a balcony to the building (and maybe a Jacuzzi room/pentouse). After obtaining a Bills of Quantity from QS I will get an Architect and Structural /Building Engineer to deal with the Structural aspects while the Builder /Contractor handle the construction. I will be visiting at least 2-3 times before completion.

@oyb,
I have factored the Borehole, Plumbing and Electrical aspects and intend to get professionals to get the job done (instead of the contractor/builder)

@Grouppoint,
Thanks for your valid point made, A colleague of mine gets weekly building updates through digital camera attachments to her e-mail. Like you I intend to get all my fixtures and fittings by myself. A colleague of mine got his stuff from Home Base in UK and shipped them to Nigeria; the shipping cost was quite affordable.

@megapro,

Any professional reasons why my ideal 5 bedroom duplex/6 bedroom bungalow doesn’t fit the models I posted?

I will make my brother to stockpile Blocks instead of Cement

I will be contacting you for your state of the art Building Plan very soon

The best bet would be for you to do all your conveyancing transactions through a Lawyer. the supply of land in Calabar is low except on the outskirts, even the land from 8 miles/ Tinapa/Adiabo axis down through M/Mohammed Highway has been fully booked. I had to buy land in Akpabuyo where the State Government is buiding a large Housing Estate as an alternative.

I know Rasaki the Estate Agent recommended to you, he helped me get a house in Calabar many years ago. You can also enquire from the Cross River State Property Investment (CROSPIL). They sell Govt owned property and land.

I have personally benefited from a University scholarship award sponsored by Chief Ezenwenyi in the 1980's in Nigeria and my late Mum used to execute Govt contracts with him so I have no ill feelings about him , when he was very rich he shared his wealth without any ethnic discrimination. The point I have consistently made is that the Igbo's in Calabar have been faithfully represented by the Igbo Community Association for the past 30 years in Calabar and do not suddenly need an Eze Ndi Igbo for the purpose of breaking Kola nuts and presiding over Yam Festivals (ala adconline).. The issue at hand is just a personality conflict between the 2 Igbo leaders in Calabar. If Chief Ezenwenyi  really has a mandate then he shouldn't be going around seeking government recognition as an Igbo leader.Afterall, a Tiger does not have to go around proclaiming its Tigritude (apologies to Wole Soyinka). The Obong of Calabar has the right to stop one of his subordinate Chiefs from trying to cause friction within the Igbo Community,I wont be surprised if he has not already been stripped of his Ada Idaha Chieftancy title.

Moral of the story: Never attempt to bite the finger of the hands that once fed you

I have acquired a Double Plot of Land @ Calabar measured at 120 x 140 and I intend to Build either a 5 Bedroom Duplex (all rooms en suite) or a 6 Bedroom Bungalow (both with a Boys Quarters apartment).

I have 2 trusted Architects who can serve as my project manager and a trusted younger brother who will be liaising and confirming costs and expenses. I am not in a hurry to complete the building (maybe 24 months timeframe) and wouldn't mind building it instalmentally in phases.

I am about to send money for the building of a high rise wall around the plot and for a well to be dug (that would later serve as a borehole).

I intend high standards of finishing to be maintained and would like to receive advice and tips from those who have experienced implementing such building projects on how to go about the building and what pitfalls to avoid in the process. Thanks

FACE:
Folks, Eze Ndi Igbo in Calabar simply means the leader of Igbo people in Calabar. Personally, I do not see the reason why there should be both the President of Igbo peoples association and Eze ndi Igbo at the same time.

The question that we should be asking is whether there is a quarrel between the President of Igbo peoples association and Eze ndi Igbo in Calabar, which is likely to spiral out of control and cause disturbance to the peace and harmony of Calabar residents.
@FACE,

What I had been trying to postulate was that the face-off is simply a political one. Its not about cultural aspirations to break kola-nuts on behalf of Igbo's or preside over Yam festivals in Calabar as Adconline was emotionally stating, its simply a clash of egos's. Its about who is the foremost prominent Igbo figure in Calabar-Is it Chief Ezenwenyi who is a member of the Obongs Council and the highest ranking Igbo coronated Chief in Calabar or Mr Fidelis O. Onyebueke the president of the Igbo Community who has been the spokesperson on behalf of the Igbo's in Calabar ? Who has the ear of the Obong of Calabar? Its Chief Ezenwenyi (the Eze Ndi Igbo elect). Chief Ezenwenyi is in a more influential position by virtue of his membership of the Obongs Council of Chief's a privilege the President  General of the Igbo Community does not have, but he is not satisfied with that. He wants to create a parallel traditional dichotomy where he extracts the loyalty and allegiance of the Igbo's.

The Igbo Community is the officially  Government recognised organisation representing the interest of the Igbo's in Cross River State and it is quite clear that the Eze Ndi Igbo elect has fallen out of favour with this association and out of grace with his Royal Highness The Obong of Calabar-Prof Henshaw because of his ambition.

2007 elections: PDP leads in guber polls

PDP has won four of the six states so far declared by INEC in Saturday's governorship election, as the commission also declared elections in Ondo and Edo inconclusive. Briefing newsmen today in Abuja, the INEC Commissioner for Information and Publicity, Mr Philip Umeadi Jnr., named the states as Osun, Ekiti, Ogun and Delta. Umeadi said that Peoples Progressive Alliance (PPA) won in Abia just as ANPP retained its stronghold in Borno. He said that the election in Ondo was marred by violence, with the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Omolade Oluwateru, snatching ballot boxes in the full glare of the public.

The commissioner said that the elections in Edo were inconclusive but did not give further details. He said that results from 13 local government areas were ready in Lagos but that results from the other seven were still being awaited. He said that results from Oyo, Yobe, Kano, Nasarawa, Taraba, Imo, Enugu and Anambra were not ready for release to members of the public. On area council elections in the FCT, Umeadi said PDP had won three of the four councils so far releases, with the ANPP picking the other one.

English people are pompous, they will never allow French Authority to be at Waterloo but ironically there is UK post at Paris Nord.Note French immigration officers are always uniformed, hardly speak in english.
Lets go back to the topic jare.
The British/French Govts operate what they call Juxtapose Border controls whereby UK Immigration officers check all Rail/Sea Port entries into UK from France and the French Immigration officers check the same routes (that includes Waterloo )into France from UK.

Who said that French immigration officers don't speak English ? The average French immigration officer speaks at least an additional language, thats why they get paid langauage allowances in addtion to their salary,the same applies too to UK immigration officers

You live in London and still have issues with people because of their ethnicity? Why is that something that is in place in other parts of the nation is not possible in your culture? Why is Calabar different from Bening and Yorubaland? The difference here is that they more tolerable than your folks. Can you tell the reason why Calabar is different from other states in Naija

When did this turn into politics? Eze Igbo is not a political position and does not have any political connection with C/River State. This is why we can never grow beyond tribalism. An educated folk like you is misinforming the people, I wonder what you would do if you find yourself in a position of authority. You know damn too well that Eze Igbo is not coming to take over Calabar, but just for cultural and ritualistic institutions of Igbos like New Yam festival, public reception of prominent Igbo public officials and end of the year party in C/River State.

Let's live beyond our ethnic enclave and see that Igbos are really not the way they are always being portrayed in Nigeria.
I'm sure you do not know the prognosis or the genesis of the whole situation neither do you know about the man Chief Emmanuel Ezenwenyi -the Eze elect.You are only commenting on the limited facts available to you. Its easy to pontificate from outside. What is the misinformation that I have dished out ? I said that the situation is a political one-which has nothing to do with cultural/ritualistic  issues mentioned by you. The Igbo's have been  living in C/River since before the state was created, is it now that they need an Eze to conduct end of year parties (as stated by you) ? The issue has nothing to do with tribalism unfortunately but one persons blind ambition.

The Obong of Calabar is a Professor and not a myopic traditional title holder. He is in a better position to assess the situation on ground than anyone else. If he is not comfortable with the trend of events he is entitled to ventilate his grievances and so is Chief Ezenwenyi entitled to project his claim to his Eze-ship, thats what Democracy is all about. The problem is in the way one goes about pursuing those goals. Why Calabar is different from Benin and/or Lagos is beacuse they are different ethnicities with different ways of doing things,  and that is why the Yoruba's could not enthrone an Oba in Ilorin.

I have nothing against the Igbo's, my brother is married to an Igbo wife. I have lots of mixed race Igbo/Calabar friends too. You can not be serious by stating that the Eze Ndigbo is not a political affair. Politics is about decision making,its  about determining who gets what when and where.You do not have to be a political office holder to get entangled in politics. For an Igbo Chief honoured and coronated by the Efik people with the highest Chieftancy title in Calabar and a member of the Obongs Council to make a move to ordain himself as an Eze Ndigbo by going around seeking affirmation from Government functionaries including the Governor himself to the detriment of the recognised Igbo Community which he split from-isnt that a political move rather than a cultural move ?

I reiterate that the Igbo's do not recognise KINGS/EZE over themselves. This Eze Ndigbo  thingy was started by The Ikemba himself as a political platform  to consolidate himself as the foremost spokesman for the Igbo's in the scheme of national affairs. It is recent trend for certain influencial people to enthrone themselves as 'Eze' in their host communities.

If Northerners could allow Eze Igbo in their states, why can't your Obong do the same? Igbos have Eze  Igbo in Ibadan, Benin, Lagos etc.
The answer is because Calabar is different from the North,Ibadan,Benin or Lagos. Could the Yoruba's impose an Oba of Ilorin in Kwara State ? To be frank the Igbo's don't need any Eze umbrella to operate under. They are hardworking folks who just want to earn their money wherever they settle and not trying to usurp local authority. The Igbo's by nature do not subscribe to  the "Kingship/Eze" thingy, the situation is only political and Chief Ezenwenyi is only trying to score a political point.

Write out a Business Plan, set targets, fix goals and devise strategies for achieving them. Well, thats for the textbook approach.

In Richard Branson's latest Book "SCREW IT,LET's DO IT (Lesson In Life)*" he states that he does not tell himself that something can not be done and that his Motto is "Screw It-Let's Do It". I will reproduce an excerpt from the book

"I believe in goals. Its never a bad thing to have  a dream, but I'm practical about it. I set goals then work out how to achieve them. Anything I want to do in life I want to do well and not half heartedly. The best lesson I learned  was to just do it. A journey of a thousand miles start with that first step. If you look ahead to the end , and all the weary miles between, with all the dangers you might face, you might never take that first step. And whatever it is you want to achieve in life, if you don't make the effort, you wont reach your goal. So take that first step.There will be many challenges .You might get knocked back-but in the end, you will make it. Good luck"

Hope it makes sense and inspires you toward taking that elusive next step
