A leading information and communication technology (ICT) company has declared its intention to seek listing at the Nigerian stock exchange. The group is making this move in other to give Nigerians the priviledge of sharing in the tremendous growth of the company. During the company’s 15th anniversary celebration, Mr Austin Okere, Managing Director, and Chief Executive Oficer of the gruop siad ‘going public has become the next logical step in the firms growth plan. He said the group of companies ; ExpertEdge Software and Systems, DCC Satelite and Networks limited and Computer Warehouse LImited will be institutionalised as corporate identities of the company so that the group will be independent of individual’s control. He explained that when the group visits the capital market, the group will bountifully reward its shareholders. He also affirmed that Nigeria can make much more than it is making from oil if the ICT is well developed Source: http://nigerianbulletin.com/nigeria-business-finance-news/computer-warehouse-seeks-listing-on-nigerian-stock-exchange/12122007/506/#more-506 |
crazyT:Buy your childrens a copy of Robert Kiyosaki's "RICH DAD's RICH KID'S" and read it to them at Bedtime. Teach them about money issues rather than STOCK per se. |
If you are abroad isnt it better to fill out a copy of the Zenith Bank PO form , scan it and ask someone (a friend/or family member) in Nigeria to print it out and help you to purchase it in Nigeria ? Its better than sending funds by SWIFT transfer through Correspondent Banks. Thats how I've been purchasing all the IPO's and PO's from UK-the scanned copies are accepted as being valid. |

Whats your price for the Nissan Armada ? |
pumping777:@Pumping777, Oga Pumping777, did I read that the minimum offer for subscription was 1,000,000 Units ? That should be N7m -are you leading a consortium of Private Equity Managers or would the money come from your pocket? Do you know what the ROI would be ? I'm interested but constrained by the price. |
RoughCut:@RoughCut How imminent do you think this 'self-correction mechanism' will take place within the NSE ? |
wanaj0:Also, Oye Hassan-Odukale who is a Director of Globe RE is also a Non-Executive Director with First Bank Plc, so the 30% intended acquisition by First Bank could be a credible deal in the making. |
The Sage of Omaha advised "Dont pick STOCKS-buy GREAT COMPANIES." His simple investment philosophy based on Focus Investing (Or Value-Investing) can be summarised under 4 Tenets Tenets of the Warren Buffet Way Business Tenets Is the business simple and understandable ? Does the business have a consistent operating history? Does the business have favourable long term prospects? Management Tenets Is management rational? Is management candid with its shareholders? Does management resist the institutional imperatives? Financial Tenets Focus on return on equity, not earnings per share. Calculate "owner earnings" Look for companies with high profit margins. For every dollar retained, make sure the company has created one dollar of market value. Market Tenets What is the value of the business? Can the business be purchased at a significant discount to its value? Culled from The Warren Buffet Portfolio-Mastering the Power of the Focus Investment Strategy by Robert.G.Hagstrom |
I have been able to log into my DCC site. However, I cycled out since 5th November and have not received my payments yet. My transaction account shows that the payment has been processed BUT they have kept on shifting the payment dates from every Friday to 20th November to 23rd November. For now they have not responded to email enquiries and have done nothing to rectify the anomaly or the impression that they are insolvent or unable to honour payments. We are still watching !! |

bjluv:@bjluv, When I opened my Stock a/c with Afrinvest West Africa (erstwhile SECTRUST) I did it online. When I visited Nigeria I gave them my proof of ID and signed Stock transfer forms in their office and was not asked any money to fund the account. Although all my unverified Stock portfolio is over N2m, I only have N200,000 worth of verified Stock in my CSCS a/c with Afrinvest, despite them indicating N500,000 as a minimum for opening an account with them. I advise you to go their website www.afrinvestwa.com and print out the forms and take it to their office-I doubt they would require the N500,000 amount from you. |
Used to be with FBN in Nigeria and FBN (UK) Ltd, the work load can be very stressful due to the long working hours. The job is like a life sentence. They overwhelm you with Loans then when they start deducting it from the salary staff start complaining that they are not properly paid. |
eniyanman:They are my brokers and I have just transfered funds to them from UK. They are quite efficient but you need to "hassle" your Account Manager from time to time on the phone. @Londoncool,@D-DOTS I used a Candlestick Charting Software that was licensed to my ex-colleague who is a Day-Trader and inputed some historical data from some few companies from the NSE into a Demo Bloomberg Terminal and it gives you instant feedback of Candlestick patterns. Its then left for you to analyse the Candlestick trends and act on them. It does not give BUY or SELL signals but it does help the "Taliban's" to reach a decision. |
@Wanaj0, As a keen enthusiast of Warren Buffets "Focus Investment Strategy" I did raise my eyebrows when you earlier mentioned that you had around 40 Stock in your portfolio, but your later explanation about keeping tabs and opportunities on the others that made up 10% of your portfolio did make a lot of sense. I was about doing a clear out of my straggling Stock in order to streamline it to 15 (in line with Warren Buffetts ideal) but I am doing a rethink as they constitute less than 10 % of my portfolio ( I have 23 and about buying 4 more and selling 12 off). A summary of the Warren Buffet Way involves: Choosing a few (ten to fifteen) outstanding companies that have achieved above-average returns in the past and that you believe have the a high probability of continuing their past strong performance into the future. Allocating your investment funds proportionately, placing the biggest bets on the highest-probability events. Leaving the portfolio largely intact for at least 5 years, and teach yourself to ride through the bumps of price volatility with equanimity (as long as things don't deteriorate) . They key is in Stock picking. As a GROWTH INVESTOR I bought 1,000 units of FBN Shares for N6,000 and 3,000 units of UACN Property for N9,000 in 1996 as my first Stock and like you said it is only TIME that stops someone from building a N1b portfolio-it is achievable. |
The new One Laptop per Child scheme in Nigeria faced a hitch today when the makers of the Laptop were sued by a Nigerian busines owner. Read the link for more details and other derogatory comments by Americans concerning the case. http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=9811 |
@Pumping777, I have sent you an email, I'd highly appreciate your repsonse |
bigjay01:The CSCS CHN (Clearing House Number) is a unique account number that identifies the account of the Stock Firm with the CSCS, hence it may not be necceassry to use it for the new Broker as your new Broker should have their own unique CSCS CHN allocated to them which you would be using when buying stock through them. |
African Petroleum May Buy Shell Assets By Julie Ziegler Nov. 28 (Bloomberg) -- African Petroleum Plc, Nigeria's largest fuel retailer, is competing with China's Cnooc Ltd. to buy Royal Dutch Shell Plc's stake in two offshore oil exploration licenses, two people with knowledge of the situation said. A sale may be worth as much as $1 billion, said Sebastian Spio- Garbrah, an analyst at New York-based Eurasia Group. Bids for Shell's 49.8 percent share in the blocks, known as Oil Mining Licenses 125 and 134, must be made by Dec. 7, the people said. Other companies bidding include a Middle Eastern firm, they said. Eni SpA, the operator of the exploration areas, owns the other 50.2 percent. Shell, based in The Hague, lost about 50 percent of its production in Nigeria for more than 18 months following militant attacks on the Forcados export terminal in February 2006. Near- record oil prices are making asset sales more attractive as Shell invests billions in developments in Qatar and Russia. News that Shell is seeking to sell stakes in two oil blocks also raises broader questions about the company's strategy in Nigeria, especially if it intends to grow its onshore and offshore assets,'' Spio-Garbrah said in an e-mail. Shell announced on Nov. 13 that it would consolidate its three Nigeria units to form a new group called ``One Shell.'' Tony Okonedo, a spokesman for Shell's deepwater unit in Nigeria, Xiao Zongwei, Cnooc's Beijing-based spokesman, and Femi Otedola, chief executive officer of African Petroleum, declined to comment. Bigger Cut The sale would precede a government plan to get a bigger cut from deep-water production-sharing contracts, which were drafted during the 1990s when oil prices were less than $20 a barrel. The contracts allow Shell and others to operate without a joint venture with the government and to pay royalties once the cost of developing the field is recovered. ``We are operating in an extremely difficult environment where levels of production have been severely curtailed by the security situation for some time, where there is significant upward pressure on costs and where funding issues are having an impact on our operations,'' Basil Omiyi, Shell's country chairman for Nigeria, said in the Nov. 13 statement. Any buyer of the Shell exploration stakes would probably need to be approved by the state oil company, which oversees the sale of blocks, Antony Goldman, a U.K.-based independent analyst specializing in Nigeria, said in an interview. Controlling Shareholder A successful bid would mark African Petroleum's first acquisition of an oil block. Otedola, who acquired a controlling stake of the company in May, was also involved in purchases of state assets when Olusegun Obasanjo was president of Nigeria, including the Hilton Abuja hotel, several oil blocks, and the state-owned telephone company. He was a partner in a group that bought two refineries in May and later backed out of the transaction, following criticism from labor unions. Nigeria's government has been seeking to give local companies a greater share in the oil and gas business. Tony Chukwueke, who heads the unit of state-run Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. that handles the sale of oil blocks, said on Nov. 1 that the nation was seeking to do business with smaller operators. We're looking for new players,'' Chukwueke said Nov. 1 in a speech in Cape Town. ``We're getting tired of the big Exxons and Shells. We're looking for small'' companies, he said.

Thanks. The open and close price have always been vital to me when placing orders. It's interesting to know it can be used for buy and sell signals also. Do you have a software for plotting this? If so, please share. In many cases, the closing price can be so misleading. Institutional and foreign investors tend to enter the market later in the day after judging the supply and demand situation for the day.@pumping777, I used a Charting Software owned by an ex-colleague of mine who is a Day Trader and inputed the information of some stock that I was interested in buying. The closing price on its own does not tell the whole story but if it is analysed with the open price over a period of days then a certain trend will emerge that gives rise to a certain Candlestick pattern on the graph, Technical Analysts swear by it. The down side is that it can't explain what happens in between the open and close periods BUT it is quite a useful tool for Stock picking once you've grasped the basic patterns. Meanwhile BAGCO intend to use N6.26 billion from the anticipated net proceeds of N6.95 from their IPO to repy their loans. A whooping 90% of the proceeds on debt payment, and then promises to pay its shareholders a dividend of 17 kobo per share in the 2008 and 2009 financial year and a dividend of 18 kobo per share in 2010. Is this offer good value for money in the long term ? ( Due to their non -listing on the NSE I didnt have enough info to engage my Candlesticks on BAGCO) |
I have been applying the Japanese Candlestick Charts on some few Stock and got a Long White Candlesitck for Livestock Feeds and NAHCO(buyer induced price push) and a Long Black Candlestick + Doji for GTB and Dangote Sugar (traders shold be on the alert for a potential doji morning star.ie. a Bullish trend). Candlestick charts provide a clear picture of price action of various stock based on the relationship between their open and close values as well as the high and low values each day. The relationship between the open and close is considered vital information to traders and forms the essence of candlesticks. They are quite useful for day-trading punters and could be applied to support a stocks fundamental analysis. |
wanaj0:Susan, happens to be my account manager too, but unfortunately she has not bothered to reply my last 4 emails to her.I was in their office(i.e AFRINVEST W.A Ltd) last year when they were trading as SECTRUST and I got a very high profile reception from the staff there. I used to transact with my previous account manager over the phone and I think that is the best way to get their attention. |
jehosaphat:I tried clicking but the link did not open. |
Does anyone know where I can print out the BAGCO Share forms online ? I thought Cashcraft would have it on their site by now. Thanks (Bagco,Crusader Ins. & Diamond Bank, here I come) |
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone here has information on how Nigerians in the diaspora can participate in the ongoing FCMB offer (without going through a stockbroker). My current stock broker does not have a domiciliary account through which I can remitt funds to them and I am currently in the middle of sorting out a new account with another stockbroker. I was able to participate in oceanic PO in March by transfering the funds to a Special Oceanic Bank PO account setup for Nigerians in diaspora by Oceanic Bank. Does anyone know if FCMB has something similar? Cheers.
Download a copy of the FCMB form, fill it, sign it and then send a scanned copy of the Form to a friend/relation in Nigeria to help you print out. Send money to the person and ask him / her to make payment for the Shares for through any receiving bank. That is how I have been able to purchase all my Dangote Sugar/Flour,Zenith Bank,NAHCO,et al shares. Scanned copies of forms are now acceptable (at least I have my Dangote Sugar and Zenith Bank dividends to show that it works). |
Air Afiqiyah Airlines flies from Tripoli to Chad. So you can fly from Abuja to Kano (in Nigeria) then from Kano to Tripoli by Air Afriqiyah and then to Chad. I couldnt think of any other route by Air. Alternatively you can fly straight to Chad via Tripoli |
