HayWhzl:I thought Moneywise was DEAD due to an ownership dispute between AYO and the person who started it ? Why dont you solicit for free articles through your esteemed column instead ? |
Yes.It would be more easier once you have obtained your CSCS account and a Broker (Account Manager)who carries out your trade executions (by phone or e-mail) |
You are welcome ![]() |
Vicjustice:You are just recycing what I said, I said that anyone(non-visa national) transiting through UK to Ireland will need a UK visa (for the purposes of passing through UK), they will still need to satisfy Irish immigration requirements on arrival. VOR:@ VOR, The issue is not whether one is D category European Resident but if the person transiting though UK to Ireland is a non-visa national or not. If the person is a visa-national (i.e controlled by immigration), then surely they would need a UK visa. The category D EU residency stuff is applicable on arrival in Ireland and not in UK. The UK Immigration may "TWOV "a visa-national to Ireland (but its discretionary and rarely given to Nigerian travellers). Transit by sea and land to the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. If you are a visa or DATV national passing through the UK by sea and land on your way to the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, you will need a visit visa for the UK. from the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man. If you are a visa or DATV national passing through the UK by sea and land on your way from the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man to another country outside the UK, you will need a visitor in transit or visit visa for the UK. Transit by air to and from the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man If you are a visa national or an exempt DATV national passing through the UK by air on your way to or from the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, you may qualify for transit without visa. If you are a DATV national passing through the UK by air on your way to Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man, you will need a visit visa for the UK. You'll need a UK Visa to travel through UK to Rep.of Ireland as the UK Immigration do the immigration clearance on their behalf as its part of the Common Travel Area agreement between the 2 countries |
Its very realistic provided you can show how relevant the course would be to you and that you have the financial wherewithal to support yourself throughout the duration of the course without recourse to public funds . |

getwealthy:Do you buy shares in a company just because one of the Directors is a state Governor ( BTW,isnt he supposed to resign his directorship) and the other director is a Havard Graduate (as if people don't get ordinary pass results there) ? What happended to sound company fundamentals and other salient performance indicators that determine future proitability ? Wasnt the erstwhile Societe Generale Bank owned by former State Governors ? |
Please people does it mean that no one in this forum is using Afrinvest west Africa as his/her broker I really want to know how their services are please help before I make a mistake I am almost morethan half way in opening an account with them your comments are highly needed
I have been using AFRINVEST W.A since when they were formerly known as SECTRUST. I have an online account with them which is still active, they helped to send my share certs for verification and obtained a CSCS account for me. I make monthly SWIFT transfers to them to fund my account. I only call them for execution of transactions and I dont take advice from my Account Manager as I am the Funds Manager o my own portfolio. They have lots of clients and you need to pester your account manager with emails to get any attention, but they get they job done though. |
What about those of us abroad ?? Anything for us ? |
@jino, Buying land is about who you know.I bought plots of land at the Parliamentary Village and Ikot Ishie for N450k (in 2006) whats the big deal there. My friend is the secretary of the Ikot Ishie Council and sells the land to whom he wants to. My business partner is about to introduce me to the new Ntoe of Big Qua Town with a view of picking up some plots from him at Akim Qua (Unical). If you are going to venture into Real Estate development in Calabar then you have to have contacts and acquainatances in the pudding. My pal was the secretary of Calabar South LG Council and we are negotaiting for some development plots in the area at good prices. My Lawyer has lots of affordable land for sale (acquired in lieu of Legal fee's from clients who couldnt pay). I have ex-colleagues in the Land Registry Dept who will tip you of any new devt.or unencumbered land deals. From the outside it looks as if one can not get affordable land to buy in Calabar but when you are serious on taking steps and meet those "in-the-know" then doors surely open, Jino,I have been to Calabar recently and all the good things are going to those people who have the money. |
You can print out the form from www.cashcraft.com |
yanka:@yanka, Was your 29k purchase in Naira ,Pounds Sterling ,Euro's, US dollars or U.A.E Dirhams ? |
nettan:@nettan, I am not too versed in the intricacies of purchasing Govt land in Calabar (as the supply is even dwindling) but there is a Govt agency called CROSPIL that sells Govt Properties with the State Housing Estates. Most Lawyers in Calabar now serve as Estate brokers and can help you with land acquisition and conveyancing solutions. The weather in Calabar is typical of the Southern coast of Nigeria where it rains during the rainy season and is hot during the dry season It does not get as cold as Jos, but we do enjoy the occassion sea breeze that blows across during the Hamattan seasons. Some plots cost between N400k to N600k in Calabar,I bought my double -plot on the outskirts of Calabar for N300k though. |
Does any one know if the offer period for purchasing Japaol Oil shares has been extended ? |
I'm watching this space. I'm fencing my land in Calabar measured at 140 x 120. I have bought 30 bags of cement and 2 small Lorry trips of sand so far.The moulding of blocks is still in progress and will soon enter into the fencing stage.I have not purchased iron rods yet but my expenses so far are around N300,000. |
@getetukudo, "What do you mean by leaping before you look? " Do you know who owned the one and only Sports Shop in Calabar that used to be along White House Street? |
I bought 10,000 units of both NAHCO and Dangote Flour, lets see what will happen |
I'm looking for a Good location and space in Calabar for my proposed Sports Retail Shop |
@Kobojunkie, I got the design from my Architect, we are working on a mini-estate project in Calabar. Anything is possible in Lagos, you'll need to get your proposed 20 Floor Apartment approved by the relevant authorities before you go-ahead. |
@Seun, Are you a Nigerian in Diaspora ? |
Must have been done by an Insider |
I have been with AFRINVEST W.A (formerly SECTRUST) and sent my share certificates to them for verification and got my CSCS and Clearing House number from them.I also have an online account with them and I'm about to send funds to my account to enable me place execution orders. They are ok but since they have lots of clientele you do not really get that one-to-one relationship with the Accounts Officer, but I am yet to measure their efficiency in terms of carrying out instructions. |
I use to worship at Winners Chapel Calabar and I planted Winners Chapel at Ikom (in Cross River State) in 1997. My wife was amongst the first set of House Fellowship members (by then Living Faith Church) at Papa's house in Kaduna in 1985. I alternate between Winners Chapel,London and KICC. |
I joined the CIPM in 1992 before they were Chartered and was able to attain Associate Membership (AIPM) in 1999 before I left Nigeria. I learnt that there is an Continuous Professional Development Exam that needs to be taken every 2 years or so to retain membership. Can anyone throw more light on this ? |
How much ? |
@Prince22, Thanks for the encomiums !! Appreciated. @Jino, I did consider getting some at Ikom, but its all about control of resources. I no longer live there and would struggle with a building project there without my presence or any proxy, except I buy one there outright. @getukudo, You can get a franchise to operate an Eatery there in Calabar. How many Chinese Restaurants operate in Calabar ? |
@Obong, It is quite clear that you are from Akwa Ibom State and may not be aware of the internal dynamics and politics of what is happening in Cross River. You have only dealt with the superficial achievements of Donald. You asked what is the concern of Government with Farming? Well Donald Duke recognised that the State Government had to invest in the Agricultural sector of the economy in order to generate Revenue for the State in the face of dwindling Oil Revenue allocation due to the excision of Bakassi to Cameroon that removed Cross River from list Oil producing states.Hence, he had a vision whereby the State could be major exporters of Cashew,Pineapple and Cocoa bringing in the necessary Foreign Exchange and reducing the State's dependence on the Federation Account to balance their Budgetary Allocation. The State Government still distributes Cocoa seedlings and Oil Palm seedlings to Farmers every year, this is done in addition to the free Fertilizer they also distribute to farmers. Who said that the Government should be Farming? I never said so.If the Government wants to generate alternative sources of Internal Income then they have to invest heavily in the Agricultural sector which also means being indirectly involved in policy implementation of agricultural programmes and schemes. The Obudu Mountain Race did not improve anyone's life beyond the ordinarily The Xmas carnival based on a compulsory one month annual leave did not improve anyone's life. The salary for December 2006 was paid in February 2007.(You even wonder where people got money to buy drinks). The Water Project was a World Bank project that was sponsored by the World Bank long before Donald Duke became the Governor. Agreed. There are good roads and statues and roundabouts everywhere BUT you do not judge the well-being of a person by the Roads and School Books for Primary School students. You judge their well-being by HOW MUCH MONEY you put into their pockets. You are judged by How many employment opportunities you created, How many times you raised the Minimum wage in the Civil Service, How consistent were salaries of the Civil Servants being paid, How many industries you facilitate or build (BTW, my In-law's in Barbados brought Businessmen to AkwaIbom and they started the Akwa Ibom Solar Industry with Government participation-Donald rejected the idea before they went to Obong Attah). How many Industries are currently in Akamkpa,Ikom,Obudu,Yala,Odukpani,Biase,Boki, etc, etc ? The Honey project (at Obanliku not Obudu) is only at subsistence level and does not generate Internal Income for the Government. You need to get your facts right mate, Donald Duke is my cousin and has RAISED the profile of Cross River from a macro-economic perspective and may never be surpassed by any predecessor BUT on the micro-economic level you need to go "Bayside" or "Ikom-Town" to understand the frustration of the people. I am Efik from Southern Cross River and my wife is from Ejagham in Northern Cross River so I do have a good pedigree and grasp of local issues, trends, events and political intricacies that affect the state as a whole and not only in Calabar.I also schooled in Ogoja,Akamkpa,Uyo and Calabar and have ex-school mates and colleagues in various cocorridorsf power in Cross River, so I should be able to present a balanced-scorecard in my analysis. What I would have done as a Governor is what Dr Clement Isong and Gov Ibim.Princewill did ,allocate a specific Industry to each Local Government Area thereby creating multipier effects of economic growth throughout the state. |
