The original name of the entire Port Harcourt was Borokiri, given to it by pristine settlers, the Okrikans. The colonial masters, when they made their incursion, gave the name Port Harcourt to it. Because of the influence of the colonial government, in the colonial era, Port Harcourt, as the name, gained currency and overwhelmed the original name, receding and confining it to a very small part of Port Harcourt called Town. Even after reign of the colonial masters and during the era of the defunct Eastern region, when the Igbos held sway, in terms ruling over the combination of the present South-South ( Niger Delta) region and the Southeast region, there was no part of Port Harcourt called Iguocha, a name referred to it by Igbos. This desperate reference only became attractive to them in their desperation to annex Port Harcourt and its Port to their Southeastern region. There's nothing historical that suggests that Port Harcourt is part of the Southeast. The idea of it belonging to the Southeast first occurred and gained potency, when Nigeria was balkanised into three regional structure, namely: The Northern region, Western region and the Eastern region. The successful balkanization, among the three major tribes of the country, was as a result of the then existent oppression that rode roughshod over the minorities of country. Even the treaties signed between d minorities of South, now constituting the South-South region, and the colonial government, in favour of the minorities, before independence, could not influence the fiendish and oppressive intent of the balkanization. Therefore, in defiance to all the treaties benign to the sovereignty and safety of minorities, they were carved and subjected to influence of majority tribes. The minorities of d South were carved into the defunct Eastern region, under the influence of Igbo majority tribe. It was during this era of the Eastern region the Igbos had an epic influence over Port Harcourt, appointed their kit and kins as mayors and rulers over it and, in the event, sold almost all land to themselves at the detriment of the aborigines, the real owners of the land. It's for this reason that almost all the streets are in Igbo names. Until the real owners wake from their lethargy, defy their inherent docility, pick up the gauntlet and take the bull by the horn, the situation will remain or even grow worse. |
Good morning all, i have held this for quite a long time and its eating me up. Each time i see him now i feel like grappling him and snuffing life out of him. About 2005 or so, young Eric moved in to our neighborhood with his parents. They stayed in a the flat after mine and so we were next door neighbors. Since Eric and i were within the same age range, it did not take long before we became so close. We were always in each other's company, going for errands together and doing many things within and even beyond our age. It really didn't matter that we weren't of the same gender. We played basketball and sometimes volleyball with other neighbors in the estate. Eric has this brother named Chubby (real name) who looked about 7years older than me. I didn't like him for no reason even though he's good looking and difficult for anyone to walk past him without noticing his good looks as he's tall with broad shoulders. He has this olive-honey complexion but for whatever reason i can't say, i didn't like him and so whenever he's around i don't go to their house. Maybe i didn't like him because he was too reserved or because his handsomeness meant he can't be faithful to one partner as ladies will do anything to want him. Chubby at the time was preparing his documents to travel to Houston to attend university before their family relocated to the estate where i lived. I didn't initially have this information about him but after Eric carelessly mentioned it to me in one of our many playtimes, suddenly my perception for Chubby became what can be managed as i tried every means possible to make him notice me. Mind you, i was 15 at the time, and people said, my boobs had a particular rhythm whenever i walked. They also said i was breathtakingly beautiful but i was always listless about those but for this occasion, i decided to take advantage of this knowledge of myself to another level. What i didn't know was that, Chubby was never interested in me or on anyone except ofcourse his friend Iyke. The two seniors were so much into each other as i later got to know. Whenever he, Iyke comes around, Chubby's mood even if down would suddenly lighten up as though there was something Iyke gives him that only him can. Since they live in a five bedroom duplex, Chubby had his room to himself only and so whenever his bestie comes around, they'll just enter his room and lockup for hours. Like i said earlier, i fantasized many things in my tiny mind including him touching me in my most sensitive areas. Despite all my efforts to get him to notice me with the attendant frustrations, others may have given-up but not me. I began seeing his friend, Iyke as the reason, he doesn't notice me. So i hatched a plan to bump into the two of them whenever they're alone in the room as usual but since i don't live in their duplex and i wasn't into any talking relationship with him at the time, i needed Eric my friend to be my accomplice but then how do i tell Eric to betray his brother and team up with me a stranger to their home? I decided i won't involve Eric in this as he won't betray his family. So came with a fresh plan, Chubby was due to travel to the States the next day been Tuesday so expectedly Iyke came to help him prepare. I was in the living room with Eric seeing a movie titled "Lion King". After about 45mins of Iyke's arrival, Eric asked me to accompany him to the shopping mall closet to get groceries his mum asked him to buy. I usually follow him but because Iyke was around and alone with Chubby in his room and because i had a plan of my own to find out what they usually do there, i told Eric, that i won't accompany. Surprisingly, he did not insist. And so he left me alone and their driver Pa Ayo zoomed off with him. Then i carefully tiptoed upstairs to brother Chubby's room. I could not believe my luck when i got there because the door was not locked. I bent and poked my eyes into the keyhole but they were sitting or lying in a position that one cannot see anything unless one is in the room. Because of my curiosity, pushed the door a little bit to fit my frame and noiselessly walked in on them. My eyes popped up at what i saw. Jeez, Iyke was moaning and calling Chubby all manner of names and saying some inaudible things. Now my suspicion has been confirmed, Chubby didn't notice my beauty because he was gay. This realization broke my heart to shreds. Though many years has past, since i caught him and his partner in the act, i still feel furious and stupid for wanting someone who had no attraction for me. Recently, maybe because of pressures from family and friends since his return from the States, he's surprisingly giving me attention. He just gave me an invite for a lunch date pleading that i accept the invitation. He's trying to woo me into a relationship with him that could lead to marriage, can you imagine. My dear readers, what do you think i do, should i tell him that i caught him making out with Iyke his friend back then? |
As it would seem the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally taken decided to give ears to the wailings of thousands of Rivers residents to probe the Rivers state government accounts since 1999. This is obviously a giant leap and everyone here is appreciative of the development. I am aware that apologists of the former governor and now Transportation minister Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi are in celebration mood as though they know something that the majority of Rivers residents don't. Some of them seem to believe that their principal is spotless as he himself has always stated even when no law enforcement agencies have declares him free or guilty. The thing is most of these Amaechi sympathizers feel any such inquest would only begin and maybe end between 1999 and 2007 when Sir Dr Peter Odili was governor. They seem not to remember that their boss was the legislative head of that administration and as such would be held also to account if there is any financial malfeasance discovered by the anti-graft agencies. Well some may think the case of former Abia state governor, Orji Uzor Kalu didn't include the legislative arm and so he may not be mentioned well i won't argue with them. Between 2007 and 2015, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in a calculated move by his then boss, Odili became governor maybe to cover his tracks who knows. Whether he did so or not remains only to be seen by the time the lid is removed by the EFCC now or in the future. Another factor to this recent move by the EFCC to investigate the Rivers books of accounts and why the Amaechi camp should not be in such a hurry to dance naked in the public is the fact that his confidant Prince Tonye Princewill directly accused him of misappropriating state funds to sponsor the then opposition party, the APC. The Kalabari Prince mentioned a lot of cleared instances where in his view financial malfeasance were done against the state. To further indict the man, one Livingstone Wichie of the Integrity Group petitioned the EFCC to take note of his activities as governor and compel him to give account to the state. Again, the Rivers state government under Gov Nyesom Ezenwo Wike issued a white paper after the Judicial panel headed by Justice Omeregi indicted the former governor and now minister of the Federal Republic. The conclusion of the whole matter here is that the Amaechi camp should not celebrate because the EFCC is seeking to vacate the perpetual injunction barring it from investigating the Rivers state government. Rather they should be concerned if that order is vacated and Dr Odili is tried, then even Amaechi won't escape the ripple effect. I rest. http:///s603da08b200109en_ng

*Health Education* *Cockroaches* Can survive a week without its head. Can survive 2weeks without water. Can survive one month without food Defecates on human food. Can trigger severe asthma attack. Spreads bacteria that can cause food poisoning and typhoid. A cockroach can kill you. If you don’t kill it first. These things are capable of the worst things you can imagine. They eat almost anything even fellow insects. Hair, books, sweets, meat anything- they will eat. They are attracted to human food. They vomit on the food. They defecate on the food. Absolutely disgusting animals. Some young cockroaches have been documented to crawl over sleeping human beings and crawl inside the ears, noses, and even open mouths. So if you have cockroaches in your house and you sleep sometimes with your mouth open and drooling, a cockroach can scroll in for a kiss. Cockroaches have been known to spread at least 33 kinds of bacteria, including E. coli and Salmonella, six parasitic worms and more than seven other types of human pathogens. E. coli and Salmonella for example are classic causes of serious food poisoning, typhoid and diarrhea. So what to do? Prevent the environment that helps them thrive. That’s the main answer. Keep your cupboards, sinks, tables and floors clean and free of dirty plates, unused utensils and old newspapers. Clean your dishes, food crumbs and oil spills right away once you cook. Always store your food in airtight containers, and never leave your food out (even if it is pet food!). Storing up food in nylon bags and sacks like garri and rice is NOT the best for you. These idiots can eat through the sack and ruin that food for you. Don’t risk it at all. Seal cracks and gaps in walls, floors and openings around or inside cabinets. Also make sure that you seal gaps around pipes, plumbing, wall outlets, and spaces under the doors to your house and kitchen. From time to time, run hot water in spare bathrooms and little used sinks. Always check your bag and your children's school bags when they return home, as well as your shopping items before storing them. If despite all these measures, you still have a cockroach problem at home, contact a pest professional for assistance with elimination and prevention. Smack with a broom. Squash with slippers. Boil in hot water. Spray with an insecticide. Kill with a gun. Use whatever means you can. But don’t ever ignore. One cockroach can produce up to 1,000 new ones in a year to torment your life. Kill cockroaches now Before they kill you. So ladies and gentlemen. Do the world a favour: Kill a cockroach today. When you go to your friends house, as a show of goodwill, kill a cockroach. When you go to your partner’s house, as a show of love, kill a cockroach. Wherever you go, and you find one- kill it. Just do it.

Dear Nairalanders, I have not been able to contain the immense joy exuding from my inside since Tuesday hence, my decision to share what some might call testimony. On the 9th of July, 2019 I boarded a Peugeot 406 cab at Lugbe enroute Berger in Abuja. I decided to charge my Infinix Hot 7 Pro using the the available car charger the driver an a middle aged Muslim from Kaduna state gave me. Upon getting to my destination, I alighted from the vehicle forgetting my phone which was turned off at the time in the car. I only remembered after I had gotten to Arab junction. Immediately, I tried calling the lines but it was a futile effort nevertheless I kept trying till Thursday 11th July before I eventually went to retrieve my MTN sim leaving the Airtel. In my mind, I will continue calling that line till Monday but if it remained unavailable then I'd move on. On Saturday morning after I returned from a powerful vigil hosted by Gateway International Church wherein Rev Ntia Ntia ministered with the power of God visibly present to heal the sick and deliver those oppressed of the devil. I decided to give the number a try. To my surprise, the phone rang. Then I quickly sent a text requesting for the phone to be returned as I was willing to pay him any reasonable fee he requested for his troubles. To shorten the story, the man willingly returned the phone without accepting any inducements from me. Friends, I am more than elated to finally have my phone back!

Beremx:Its hard to believe the lady's story because if the man actually had HIV and was on treatment, he wouldn't be able to infect his wife and even anybody unless it was his wife who infected him with the virus. If the latter is true then one can understand why he became violent with her and denied her attention. |
Sanchez01:You've observed very well dear one. The Woman of God used tacit diplomacy to bring to bear her point. Indeed the House of God should return to its original state, which is a place for consolation and penitence.
