Religion / Why Do Jehovah’s Witnesses Maintain Political Neutrality? by lovingJehovah: 10:04pm On Nov 01, 2017 |
Jehovah’s Witnesses remain politically neutral for religious reasons, based on what the Bible teaches. We do not lobby, vote for political parties or candidates, run for government office, or participate in any action to change governments. We believe that the Bible gives solid reasons for following this course. We follow the example of Jesus, who refused to accept political office. (John 6:15) He taught his disciples to be “no part of the world” and made it clear that they should not take sides in political issues.—John 17:14, 16; 18:36; Mark 12:13-17. We are loyal to God’s Kingdom, which Jesus spoke of when he said: “This good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth.” (Matthew 24:14) As representatives of God’s Kingdom, commissioned to proclaim its coming, we remain neutral in the political affairs of all countries, including the one where we live.—2 Corinthians 5:20; Ephesians 6:20. By remaining neutral, we are able to speak freely to people of all political persuasions about the good news of God’s Kingdom. We try to show by our words and practices that we rely on God’s Kingdom to solve the world’s problems.—Psalm 56:11. Since we avoid political divisions, we are united as an international brotherhood. (Colossians 3:14; 1 Peter 2:17) In contrast, religions that meddle in politics divide their members.—1 Corinthians 1:10. Respect for governments. Although we do not take part in politics, we respect the authority of the governments under which we live. This is in harmony with the Bible’s command: “Let every person be in subjection to the superior authorities.” (Romans 13:1) We obey the law, pay taxes, and cooperate with efforts of the government to provide for the welfare of its citizens. Rather than participate in any attempt to subvert the government, we follow the Bible’s counsel to pray for “kings and all those who are in positions of authority,” especially when they are making decisions that could affect freedom of worship.—1 Timothy 2:1, 2, footnote. We also respect the rights of others to make their own decisions in political matters. For example, we do not disrupt elections or interfere with those who choose to vote. Is our neutrality a modern innovation? No. The apostles and other first-century Christians took an identical stand toward governmental authority. The book Beyond Good Intentions states: “Though they believed they were obligated to honor the governing authorities, the early Christians did not believe in participating in political affairs.” Similarly, the book On the Road to Civilization says that early Christians “would not hold political office.” Is our political neutrality a threat to national security? No. We are peace-loving citizens from whom governmental authorities have nothing to fear. Consider a 2001 report produced by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Commenting on our political neutrality, the report stated: “Today some may dislike this stand of Jehovah’s Witnesses; it was a basic reason for their being accused by the totalitarian Nazi and Communist regimes of the past.” Yet, even under Soviet repression, the Witnesses “remained law-abiding citizens. They honestly and selflessly worked in collective farms and at industrial plants and presented no threat to the Communist regime.” Likewise today, the beliefs and practices of Jehovah’s Witnesses do not, the report concluded, “undermine the security and integrity of any state.” |

I have read many of your previous posts and your sinister motive is very clear. You are an anti-Jehovah's Witnesses. Sadly, we do not set out on our daily activities to please you or your cohort. We owe our lives and service to the one who gave us life and our hope of everlasting life. Nkem, you are insignificant to us because the devil cannot stand between us and our loving God, Jehovah (Isaiah 41:10). What do we care about your argument with a Catholic? You are a sadistic person carrying out the will of your father, the devil as you may read in John 8:44 (You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies). You have told so many iniquitous lies against us and even claimed that one of our members wore a wristwatch worth $21,000 on air and you keep spreading the lies online. This is the only way you can satisfy your urge as Proverbs 4:16 (For they cannot rest until they do evil; they are robbed of sleep till they make someone stumble) perspicuously describes you. I asked you of your own doctrine and you simply denied your god and your faith. What a Christian! Matthew 10:33 (But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven). This is someone blaspheming the Jehovah's Witnesses who are bold and proud of their faith and belief You told me that you have no doctrine (John 8:44). When a genuine or sincere person disagrees with someone's faith, he presents what he feels is the better faith with evidence. At least Jehovah's Witnesses present a positive message even if you don't agree with it. But for you to make a lopsided attack without anything to propound, it becomes futile and questionable. Your attack is not based on our doctrines, it is based on resentment and spite and that is why you evaded questions that might open your can of worms. How can someone without a doctrine judge the Jehovah's Witnesses who fearlessly carry the message of the Bible to every door in favorable and unfavorable seasons as Jesus commanded in 2 Timothy 4:1-2 (1 I solemnly charge you before God and Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his manifestation and his Kingdom: 2 Preach the word; be at it urgently in favorable times and difficult times; reprove, reprimand, exhort, with all patience and art of teaching)? A sane and spiritual mind will always count on the Bible and not on false stories copied from anti-JW bloggers. Nkem, it is not by force to listen to us. If you do not want to hear the message, act mature like others and be civilized about it. We do not force the message of the Bible upon you. Ultimately, since you cannot converse in a civilized manner with Jehovah's Witnesses without being inciteful, I am a proud member who is proud of his doctrine and his God, Jehovah. As Christians, we endeavour to apply the counsel given to us in 2 Timothy 2:23 (Further, reject foolish and ignorant debates, knowing that they produce fights). To this end, I choose to end this conversation here and I thank you for your time. It is baseless and a massive waste of time with you. Take win and leave nkembaby008: |
Religion / Why Don’t Jehovah’s Witnesses Go To War? by lovingJehovah: 2:14pm On Nov 01, 2017 |
For the following reasons, Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t go to war: Obedience to God. The Bible says that God’s servants would “beat their swords into plowshares” and not “learn war anymore.”—Isaiah 2:4. Obedience to Jesus. The apostle Peter was told by Jesus: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take the sword will perish by the sword.” (Matthew 26:52) Jesus thus showed that his followers would not take up weapons of warfare. Jesus’ disciples obey his command to be “no part of the world” by remaining strictly neutral in political matters. (John 17:16) They do not protest against military actions or interfere with those who choose to serve in the armed forces. Love for others. Jesus commanded his disciples to “love one another.” (John 13:34, 35) They would thus form an international brotherhood in which no member would ever wage war against his brother or sister.—1 John 3:10-12. The example of early Christians. The Encyclopedia of Religion and War states: “The earliest followers of Jesus rejected war and military service,” recognizing those practices as “incompatible with the love ethic of Jesus and the injunction to love one’s enemies.” Likewise, German theologian Peter Meinhold said of those early disciples of Jesus: “Being a Christian and a soldier was considered irreconcilable.” Contributions to the community Jehovah’s Witnesses are useful members of society and pose no threat to the security of the countries where they live. We respect governmental authority, in harmony with these Bible commands: “Be in subjection to the superior authorities.”—Romans 13:1. “Pay back, therefore, Caesar’s things to Caesar, but God’s things to God.”—Matthew 22:21. Thus, we obey the law, pay our taxes, and cooperate with the government’s efforts to provide for the public welfare. |
Religion / What Does The Bible Say About Tattoos? by lovingJehovah: 2:08pm On Nov 01, 2017 |
The Bible mentions tattoos just once, at Leviticus 19:28, which says: “You must not put tattoo marking upon yourselves.” God gave this command to the nation of Israel, thus setting them apart from the neighboring peoples who marked their skin with the names or symbols of their gods. (Deuteronomy 14:2) While the Law given to Israel is not binding on Christians, the principle underpinning this law is worth serious consideration. Should a Christian get a tattoo or body art? The following Bible verses can help you to reason on the matter: “Women should adorn themselves with . . . modesty.” (1 Timothy 2:9, New American Bible) That principle applies to both women and men. We should respect the feelings of others and not draw undue attention to ourselves. Some want to establish their identity or independence, while others get a tattoo in order to assert ownership of their body. However, the Bible encourages Christians: “Present your bodies a sacrifice living, holy, acceptable to God, a sacred service with your power of reason.” (Romans 12:1) Use your “power of reason” to analyze why you want a tattoo. If it is because you want to follow a fad or to show membership in a certain group, remember that your feelings may prove to be less permanent than the tattoo. Examining your motives can help you to make a wise decision.—Proverbs 4:7. “The plans of the diligent one surely make for advantage, but everyone that is hasty surely heads for want.” (Proverbs 21:5) The decision to get a tattoo is often made in haste, yet it can have a long-term impact on relationships and employment. And tattoos can be costly and painful to remove. Research—as well as the booming business of tattoo removal—shows that a large number of those who get tattoos eventually wish that they hadn’t. |
Religion / Should I Get A Tattoo? by lovingJehovah: 1:56pm On Nov 01, 2017 |
What is the attraction? “I think some tattoos are beautiful works of art,” says a young man named Ryan. The motive for getting a tattoo might affect how you feel about getting one. For example, a teenager named Jillian says: “When a girl I went to school with was little, her mom died. So when she became a teenager, the girl got her mom’s name tattooed on the back of her neck. I think a tattoo like that can be very sweet.” Regardless of the motive, you should think long and hard before deciding to have anything permanently inked into your skin! What questions should you consider if you are thinking about getting a tattoo? And what Bible principles can help you make the best decision? What questions should you ask? What are the health risks? “Tattoos breach the skin, which means that skin infections and other complications are possible,” says the website of the Mayo Clinic. “Sometimes bumps called granulomas form around tattoo ink. Tattooing also can lead to keloids—raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue.” Furthermore, the website notes: “If the equipment used to create your tattoo is contaminated with infected blood, you can contract various bloodborne diseases.” How would it affect your reputation? Like it or not, your appearance sends a message. It identifies you as either adultlike or immature, as either trustworthy or irresponsible. “Whenever I see someone with a tattoo, I automatically put him in the drinking-and-partying category,” says a teenager named Samantha. Melanie, 18, sees another aspect to it. “To me,” she says, “tattoos hide your natural beauty. It’s as if those who wear them don’t want you to see who they really are, so they hide themselves underneath tattoos.” Will you always like it? Over time, weight gain or even simple aging can stretch and distort a tattoo. “I’ve seen what tattoos look like on a person decades later, and it’s not pretty,” says a young man named Joseph. “Tattoos often become outdated,” says 21-year-old Allen. “What was once significant to the wearer might not be important just a few years later.” Allen makes a good point. The fact is, as people age, their views change, their tastes change, and their affections change—but their tattoos do not. “Having got a tattoo that only reminds me of foolish feelings is something I wouldn’t want to add to the list of things I regret years later,” says a young woman named Teresa. What Bible principles apply? A mature person takes time to weigh all factors before making a decision. (Proverbs 21:5; Hebrews 5:14) So consider the following Bible principles that have a bearing on the subject of tattoos. Colossians 3:20: “You children, be obedient to your parents in everything, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.” What consequences might you experience if you live at home with your parents but fail to respect their direction? 1 Peter 3:3, 4: “Do not let your adornment be external—the braiding of hair and the wearing of gold ornaments or fine clothing—but let it be the secret person of the heart in the incorruptible adornment of the quiet and mild spirit.” Why, do you think, does the Bible put such emphasis on “the secret person of the heart”? 1 Timothy 2:9: “Women should adorn themselves . . . with modesty and soundness of mind.” What is the meaning of the word “modesty”? In the long term, why is modesty more attractive than body art? Romans 12:1: “Present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, a sacred service with your power of reason.” Why does the way you treat your body matter to God? In view of these factors, many people have decided against getting a tattoo. In fact, they have found something better than tattoos. Teresa, quoted earlier, says: “If there is a phrase or slogan that you truly love or a person who is important to you, then live by that phrase or tell that person how much he or she means to you. Instead of getting a tattoo, live what you believe.” |

Since you cannot talk about your own religion, it simply means that you are not bold enough to represent it. If you could represent it, then you will truly believe in your doctrines and be proud of it. You cannot take the heat that you give to others. Casting aspersion on the Jehovah's witnesses is not a neo-movement, it has been going on for centuries. Mr. Hairyrapunzel, I have asked you about your own faith and you ignored me. You condemn my faith yet you propound no faith for me to embrace. If you truly care about the JW you should at least put an alternative on the table. Simply tell me the religion that you feel most comfortable with and I will consider if it is worth the switch. Since you have no faith, I will draw the line of our conversation right here. And you reckon that I told you from the Begining, I was only having a conversation with Oruma before you jumped in and started disparaging us. It is useless having a conversation with you because you are having your fun and we are not even talking about God or our beliefs. So, enjoy your life and thank you for your time. Hairyrapunzel: |

we do not force you to like us and we are not your toys. Do you get that? If you insult us, it doesn't change anything about us. Say whatever you feel and we are not disturbed. You have never liked us and we do not feel pity for ourselves because we are confident of our God and our message. You have always had the perception that we are a cult and you probably must have made many posts disparaging us, so how can that be a worry to us? Do tell, what can we do about that? You can go on insulting us but you cannot say that of any other religion. Because they will come for you with all they have. You can only say that to the JW because they are peace-lovers and not that they are insane or unlettered. what is your religion? Please, tell us if you are proud of it and I will consider your doctrines. Can you tell the public your doctrines and correct us where we have got it wrong instead of casting aspersion? nkembaby008: |

Your opinion does not count. We have seen tougher men with political powers come harder than hiding behind their uncle's laptops to throw shades. You are insignificant compared to the pressure and attack that Jehovah's witnesses take on this earth. If not for bloggers you would not be able to construct those words in your comment. We are not disturbed by all those libelous rants. They do nothing to us because we are guided by Jehovah's spirit. We just serve God and people feel threatened by our presence. Jesus said if they are not against us, they are for us. Are we against you? Why would you waste your time chasing shadows? Jehovah's Witnesses are not coming for you, bro! Do not panic, mate! You have attacked all the Jehovah's witnesses on this section and still, you are not pleased. We are on the field every day so we face bigger insults and curses than internet trolls can ever throw at us. Trolls are the least on the pyramid. Okay, let us talk. What is your religion? We do appreciate that you took your time to visit our facilities. It might be a fact that you probably must have met some questionable members of Jehovah's Witnesses but that does not define our organization or our faith. Even Jesus had a betrayer in 12 and the Bible said that among us there will be wolves. There is an arrangement for that in our organization where unrepentant sinners are disfellowshipped to keep the congregation from being corrupted by unwholesome acts according to 1 Corinthians 5:11. Oruma, I stopped for a while to listen to you and your belief and what was your response? I asked you questions regarding your faith but you declined. Jehovah's witnesses are bold anytime, any day to reason FROM the scriptures with everyone. The Bible does not encourage debate or argument so we try to avoid it when it gets to that point. It is not our fault that we are not loved. Jesus said that if we are of the world, the world would love us. We do not expect to be loved, all we pray for is Jehovah's mercy and undeserved kindness to help us live out the last days. We are not perfect, to say the least, and never feel superior to anyone. We are all fighting the race and the Bible says that only those who endure to the end will win it. We only guard our faith and our heart to stay focus on serving Jehovah. I am a professional in my field of work and people admire that, but when they notice that I am a Jehovah's witness, they suddenly turn cold toward me. I get that reaction a lot. We do not thrive in hypocrisy but we endeavor to do the will of our God, Jehovah. Judge us by our doctrines if they are Biblical and not by unscrupulous characters that you may have encountered. We are over 8 million and I wonder how many Jehovah's witnesses you have met so far. So far so good you do not open your newspaper to hear evil stories about us. We do not threaten your security. We do not engage in wars. The much you have seen are bloggers from other denominations trying to smear us with blasphemous shades. To that end, We are not bothered at all. We take the message to people in our neighborhoods and we pray they accept it. Not all will, but if we find one out of 100, we are happy. We are not interested in numbers. We want sincere-hearted servants of Jehovah to praise him as we enter the final part of the last days. oruma19: 2 Likes |

Yes, I am a proud JW. And when you talk about boldness, that is a rock on which we stand because Jesus assured us that he is with us until the conclusion of the system of things and that is why we boldly knock on every door in favorable and unfavorable seasons. Even on doors of people like you who claim to be experienced and of surreal backgrounds like you, we humbly carry out the instruction Jesus gave us to preach the word and be at it diligently. We are not social media brags, we knock on EVERY door, bro. We do not compete or take pleasure in renowned men but in God and I will not go there with you. Cane your lane? This thread is about the JW and you blasphemed us without a footing on your own religion. Your explanation of your own faith was hollow. You don't seem to fathom what you believe and yet you call others witches. Who placed you a judge? Have you been able to burst your own bubble by fulfilling the 2 commandments as you quoted (would you call someone you love a witch when you have no evidence against him??)? We believe in our teachings because they are founded in the Bible and the Bible is our constitution. Is that a crime? Nice to chat to you, Oruma. Thanks for sparing your time. oruma19: |

I am surprised that you have not a pinch of knowledge about your own belief. It is shocking! People like you have no spot in criticising anyone for his belief because you cannot explain or defend your own faith. Oruma, if I had asked you about witches, you would have detailed it out to me. You are well-grounded in fetish or superstitious beliefs. By your name, I can complete the story that you are telling. Simply, you have no religion and no belief. Jesus gave a new covenant and that is different from the covenant given to the Jews. Jesus' teachings were strange to the Jews and they killed him. Jesus amended the laws given to the Jews. Christians are called followers of Christ. Jews are not followers of Christ. The Bible spoke about the spiritual Isreal of God, not Spiritual Jews. Religion / What Is The Holy Spirit? by lovingJehovah: 12:08pm On Oct 29, 2017 |
The holy spirit is God’s power in action, his active force. (Micah 3:8; Luke 1:35) God sends out his spirit by projecting his energy to any place to accomplish his will.—Psalm 104:30; 139:7. In the Bible, the word “spirit” is translated from the Hebrew word ruʹach and the Greek word pneuʹma. Most often, those words refer to God’s active force, or holy spirit. (Genesis 1:2) However, the Bible also uses those words in other senses: Breath.—Habakkuk 2:19; Revelation 13:15. Wind.—Genesis 8:1; John 3:8. The vital, or animating, force in living creatures.—Job 34:14, 15. A person’s disposition or attitude.—Numbers 14:24. Spirit persons, including God and the angels.—1 Kings 22:21; John 4:24. These meanings all share the sense of something invisible to humans that produces visible effects. Similarly, the spirit of God, “like the wind, is invisible, immaterial and powerful.”—An Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, by W. E. Vine. The Bible also refers to God’s holy spirit as his “hands” or “fingers.” (Psalm 8:3; 19:1; Luke 11:20; compare Matthew 12:28.) Just as a craftsman uses his hands and fingers to do his work, God has used his spirit to produce such results as the following: The universe.—Psalm 33:6; Isaiah 66:1, 2. The Bible.—2 Peter 1:20, 21. The miracles performed by his ancient servants and their zealous preaching.—Luke 4:18; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11. The fine qualities displayed by people who obey him.—Galatians 5:22, 23. The holy spirit is not a person By referring to God’s spirit as his “hands,” “fingers,” or “breath,” the Bible shows that the holy spirit is not a person. (Exodus 15:8, 10) A craftsman’s hands cannot function independent of his mind and body; likewise, God’s holy spirit operates only as he directs it. (Luke 11:13) The Bible also compares God’s spirit to water and associates it with such things as faith and knowledge. These comparisons all point to the impersonal nature of the holy spirit.—Isaiah 44:3; Acts 6:5; 2 Corinthians 6:6. The Bible gives the names of Jehovah God and of his Son, Jesus Christ; yet, nowhere does it name the holy spirit. (Isaiah 42:8; Luke 1:31) When the Christian martyr Stephen was given a miraculous heavenly vision, he saw only two persons, not three. The Bible says: “He, being full of holy spirit, gazed into heaven and caught sight of God’s glory and of Jesus standing at God’s right hand.” (Acts 7:55) The holy spirit was God’s power in action, enabling Stephen to see the vision. Misconceptions about the holy spirit Misconception: The “Holy Ghost,” or holy spirit, is a person and is part of the Trinity, as stated at 1 John 5:7, 8 in the King James version of the Bible. Fact: The King James version of the Bible includes at 1 John 5:7, 8 the words “in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth.” However, researchers have found that those words were not written by the apostle John and so do not belong in the Bible. Professor Bruce M. Metzger wrote: “That these words are spurious and have no right to stand in the New Testament is certain.”—A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament. Misconception: The Bible personifies the holy spirit, and this proves that it is a person. Fact: The Scriptures do at times personify the holy spirit, but this does not prove that the holy spirit is a person. The Bible also personifies wisdom, death, and sin. (Proverbs 1:20; Romans 5:17, 21) For example, wisdom is said to have “works” and “children,” and sin is depicted as seducing, killing, and working out covetousness.—Matthew 11:19; Luke 7:35; Romans 7:8, 11. Similarly, when the apostle John quoted Jesus, he personified the holy spirit as a “helper” (paraclete) that would give evidence, guide, speak, hear, declare, glorify, and receive. He used masculine personal pronouns such as “he” or “him” when referring to that “helper.” (John 16:7-15) However, he did so because the Greek word for “helper” (pa·raʹkle·tos) is a masculine noun and requires a masculine pronoun according to the rules of Greek grammar. When John referred to the holy spirit using the neuter noun pneuʹma, he used the genderless pronoun “it.”—John 14:16, 17. Misconception: Baptism in the name of the holy spirit proves that it is a person. Fact: The Bible sometimes uses “name” to stand for power or authority. (Deuteronomy 18:5, 19-22; Esther 8:10) This is similar to its use in the English expression “in the name of the law,” which does not mean that the law is a person. A person who is baptized “in the name of ” the holy spirit recognizes the power and role of the holy spirit in accomplishing God’s will.—Matthew 28:19. Misconception: Jesus’ apostles and other early disciples believed that the holy spirit was a person. Fact: The Bible does not say that, nor does history. The Encyclopædia Britannica states: “The definition that the Holy Spirit was a distinct divine Person . . . came at the Council of Constantinople in ad 381.” This was over 250 years after the last of the apostles had died. |

the Bible says that we must all run a personal race, yet we are unitedly brothers. It is fair to attack a JW individually for his own conduct but grounding an individual's conduct on the beliefs on the JW is obnoxious. I am taking sides with the word of God and that is what it is. People come out saying this and that and they cannot provide biblical evidence to back up their claims. They end up referring you to a JW hate blog. They themselves do not know what they believe in and cannot defend their own doctrines. chatinent: |

What is the difference between Holy spirit and holy ghost? If you have always followed our witnessing you would have heard us reading John 17:3 This means everlasting life,+ their coming to know you,* the only true God,+ and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ. danyaril2yahoo: 1 Like |

And who made you a judge? your statement alone has disqualified you in the circle of Christianity. You have just judged an entire group made up of over 8 million members and you hope to be thought of as serious? How many JW do you know to come to that closure? mployer: |

The magazine is not even sold. Bro, chill! The hate is not necessary on nairaland. You are free to express your sentiments but since you keep following the updates I am curious, are you naturally inclined to follow lies? You just called us liars yet you keep trailing us for update, how logical is that? Are we mind-controlling you to the point that you need to trail lies? Shouldn't you spend more time staying relevant in your own doctrine or church? What church or religion are you most agreeable with, btw? MOSICATED5: 2 Likes |
