^^^i feel you and i have a member of my family who came back to the uk after roughly 2 years. from my research i discovered that one of the major reasons for this is not making proper plans to get a steady source of income both mid and long term. dissappointment and broken promises from people who have promised heaven and earth. having not tested the waters in a manner of speaking i.e spending some weeks/months and slowly adapting failing to prepyourself for the hard slog ahead because we have friends and family who have assured and encouraged us to come home we tend to believe them and act on this without the realisation that going on holidays is totally different from living there full time. on my long trip last year,in order to get a feel of the everyday living i trained myself not to eat out at eateries everyday accomodation and transportation has been sorted for me already but i trained myself to only go out for business and important stuffs i even tried public transport like i stated earlier. and i have devised three different sources of income,if this does not work out or is a bit slow in the first couple of months,i am getting a job which i have also prepared for, once these things are prepared for in advance anything else that happens will not be your fault and will certainly happen to an individual living in nigeria as well. three of my family have already moved back home and are doing fine, including friends, AjanleKoko:no worries man its all good |
violent:by your handle i presume you live in the united kingdom when the likes of cameron and mps including counsellors pledged a pay cut in different boroughs what major impact is the cut in salary making to tens and hundreds of millions in pounds? not much but its the symbolic show of empathy. the point is that he can loot the state with or without giving up his salary, and he certainly doesnt need the people's support to do that as nigeria is presently. 2.like i have said,it would have a symbolic effect and also show empathy not only this it would encourage his friends ,contractors, commissioners e.t.c to toes similar line and more importantly to be as committed as he is i am not disputing that many of them might do it out of a sense of servitude, but still it can only be a good thing and not bad. 3.no they are not supposedly but anyone needs the support of the populace,is fashola to corruptly enriching himself?but the people love him because of all he is doing hnce they co operate with him in paying taxes 4. well he has a manifesto which i believe the people of imo state believed in,hence the reason he was voted in . the fact that he is forfeiting his salary in concert with the free education and the man's antecedents in social responsibility is enough to earn him applause especially considering you have not even given him a chance before concluding that his mission is to rob the state blind remember the same tinubu gave us fashola, fayemi, aregbesola |
violent:guess you ll rather we condemned every single one of them including rochas who hasnt even been given a chance to prove himself yet? besides he can draw his salary AND still run his free education and get the accolades for it we are not funny we are just showing appreciation in order for the man to do more for his people rather than blanket condemnation |
the youths will continue to suffer if they are still waiting for the government to create jobs, what is the obsession with office jobs for goodness sakes just because you have an undergraduate degree ![]() the millions of hectares of productive agricultural land need people especially graduates to apply their knowledge to it and produce food for the nation the country needs small and medium businesses to thrive that is another form of employment sectors like the transportation sector could be improved upon so that the area boys, national union thugs could be phased out if the youths look in this direction, there will be enough jobs to go round, feed them and the nation and stimulate the economy instead of everyone looking to work in an oil company or mtn |
the point is not the mount of the salary, its a symbolic gesture showing his commitment to making the free education work in imo state.he might decided not to forfeit his salary and still get the desired pr and adulations from his people but he chose to do it and he should be applauded for it.in spite of the fact that these politicians are corrupt and what not we should learn to dispense with the cynicism sometimes and applaud positive actions that they undertake, child care professionals call it positive reinforcement if you praise them for the positives, that will propel them onwards to do more |
@poster the best advice i can give your friend is to leave things as it is,if she sees her ban through she can still apply for a british visa and she will be granted as long as she is totally honest and upfront on her visa application after the ban. meanwhile she can make the best of the time by doing other stuffs, occupying herself obsessing over the uk will not help her one bit and it actually has the potential of worsening the situation i know a friend who was removed in 2005 he passed his ican got a job and got an american visiting visa he went there and back twice now he has a multiple british visa which he has used a couple of times |
@vivaladiva i only wanted to read through the comments and was not planning on making a comment, untill i read through your comment there are a couple of points that stand out and i will like to highlight them and make my comments on them 1.the fact that nigerians who complain are hanging round people of "small minds"or people who are not achievers hence the complaints 2.the fact that nigerians hand out with and amongst their kind which in your opinion serves to limit their horizon, their mind set 3.the no one should complain about the taxes,as without the taxes the nhs and all the other facilities will not be available. reading through your comments i get the feeling that you are one of the born and bred british-nigerians.i am sorry to say your comments points to a disconnect with the reality on ground.if the average white english professional can complain about their own country and even move abroad in search of greener pastures, then isnt it a little self serving of you to excuse the state of the country? pls go and check the number of british born and educated doctors and other professionals who have emigrated to new zealand, australia, america e.t.c. years ago even before the advent of the economic crunch. the fact that you have a few friends who are doing well doesnt excuse the fact that for every one of your friend there are 50 more trying to break through. this is not just mere speculations,we all live in the united kingdom and the reality on ground is that if you work really hard the realistic chances of you attaining that pedestal as an investment banker in the city is really slim although not impossible. i used to work in I.T and i challenge you to show me how many people of colour are employed as project supervisors and other positions of authority who are of colour never mind african descent. same goes for investment bankers, same goes for the medical profession you can count the number of surgeons of colour in the whole of the united kingdom on your hands and it is deliberate. those are the areas i know about but i am sure there are more. did you listen to david cameron himself decrying the number of black students in oxford university who are less than 40? is that because they only hang out with their kind or have not broadened their horizon? you are probably the first individual i have met,who has justified the level of taxation, like you i have white friends, asian friends e.t.c and across the board everybody will love a situation where we pay lower taxes.paying lower taxes does not automatically translate to the nhs going into extinction.same for good roads,securitye.t.c while i totally agree with you that we should broaden our hoizons, make friends across races and imerse ourselves in the culture ofthe country we reside in i will quickly remind you that losing your culture and identity is as bad as not mixing with other cultures. the average indian is guilty of the allegations you have laid concerning nigerians from top to buttom, they have not lost their sense of self and cultural identity, but that has not stopped them from exelling in their chosen careers and professions rather they have used it to their advantage by collectively taking controll of businesses, neighbourhoods and making money while they are at it if you have not been to leeds before ask people who live there same for scotland with the large bangladeshi community amongst pakistanis e.t.c east london, manchester, bolton they hardly mix with other races yet they are doing very good for themselves. FACT the taxes we pay in the uk is one of the highest in the world, and we are not getting anything extraordinary for it,if you think we are i will suggest you visit a german hospital. visit german roads and i promise you will change your mind. FACT race plays a huge part on how much of a sucess you will be especially in the united kingdom, one can certainly give it a hell of a try,but thats all one can do and hope for the best.even in the police force the nuber of minority ethnic who are in specialised units have not increased over the years in spite of the stephen lawrence enquiry we know what happened to ali dezai and other minority ethnic senior police officers FACT the rich-poor divide has been widening for a very long time, the only difference now is that the economic down turn has served to highlight it and the social welfare, benefits e.t.c has only glossed over the issue not solved it. like you mentioned in your comment that why dont we go live in the usa if we like it better,im sorry living here was never my idea but my dad's,its not my money so i really didnt have much of a choice left to me i wanted usa or canada,as for why i am still here having spent a number of years here i really cant see myself living in another western country so from here i am moving back to nigeria in a year or two GOD willing ;-) |
agabaI23:cant speak for others but im good with yahoo so i can access on my hand held even if im not home |
this thread seems like a million years ago now, been to nigeria every year and i finally decided to go on an extended stay last year, left manchester on the 17th of june and came back to the united kingdom 2nd week in november grand total of almost 6 months. from my limited experience, and i can only comment on the places i have been to in lagos state where i stay,my home town and abuja a couple of times. like the threadster,i rode on okada i even tried the painted danfo once wanted to try molue but didnt fond any around my area and i tried the various delicacies on offer, i tried looking for a job,but after a couple of months i was getting offered the wrong jobs and not getting the job offers i wanted,i have since started retraining myself, taking some courses in photography ,lightning, use of photo shop in preparation to set up a photo studio amongst other stuffs. you dont have to limit yourself to job hunting because lets face it frankly foreign degrees are not as exclusive as they use to be couple of years ago,i got the shock after my extended stay, think of business ideas. |
this list is not realistic, for each of the items on those list you will find ten nigerians who already has them,a nigerian will purchase a new apple laptop before the foreign based counterpart shells out the thousand plus to do same. you really dont need all of those stuffs if you are going on holidays unless you want to sit down at home most of your holidays. the rest yes apart from laptop,iphone4,running shoes?? |
we shouldnt be blinded by emotions and stick to the facts, the woman definitely did not fall down the stairs it is obvious from both accounts that they have both had a tumultuous relationship, however there is absolutely nothing that can justify not only smacking a woman around but in front of the children. did the man consider the negative psychological effect its having on his children/what if the cycle of domestic violence continues with his children when they r married? if a woman/wife gets you that upset, leave the house and ignore her rantings and i bet she will quiet down and leave out of her own accord, besides for the woman to still have full and free access to the house even many years after they had been living separately means they at least get on well with each other |
You don overplay your hand, you mean, Olodo upon 30 ![]() I know Hell has no fury as a woman scorned, but those groups are just crazy attention seekers o jare, always looking for a way to screw the woman over. I love UK for their sound women's right, God bless Great Britain ![]() Yeah he is now free to use the tram in Dublin as it is nighttime, usually he has to Na this kain people dey fall for Naija Custom's "you are not allowed to carry fish", awon gongoshu
iros o @bolded my own is that both the man and the woman should be given equal rights on the child if you check the ECJ zambrano case we are talkn about sef it makes the right of the child paramount so how is the childs right protected if mummy wants to punish daddy for the break up by blocking him from seeing the child?besides i though we are in the era of equality so who says the woman has exclusive monopoly on childcare skills? anything a woman can do a man can do as equally even better have you not seen the man that gave birth in america,he is even planning the second pregnancy or house husband,or male nanny oya defend those ones mr use wisdom i need support o ![]() |

Olaisrich (m) Accra,Ghana Posts: 118 Offline Re: Cbn To Test-run Cash Transaction Limit Policy In Lagos « #107 on: May 27, 2011, 10:11 PM » -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote true, but if you check the dynamics, most of the transactions will probably be one off payment transactions besides people who deal in cash maybe the average mallam selling cows, rams e.t.c will re shedule and adjust their businesses to meet the demands of the contemporary business in nigeria. lets not lose sight of what we are talking about here, your cheque ,money transfer e.t.c will still be operational besides you can always do a before and after cash withdrawal i.e withdraw before 12 am and then another withdrawal early next day. besides the cash withdrawal limit will be based to a large extent on the volume of cash on a day to day basis so your account manager will be given a clear discrestion on increasing the limit,i am sure you will agree with me that a situation where an old man who just lodged his pension in his account and then checking 3 days later to find zero credit will be delighted with these sort of checks and balances. see the way you rap up everything everything as if you are one of the CBN board of Directors, cool! implement it and see chaos, most of the advanced country that we are emulating had started long ago! that is why we call them advanced, the level of literacy here cannot be compare with there even as at today, what of ignorance and babarism?,do we even have the data base of all the citizen of this country? even subsiquent election we have to line up and reregiser, all these are important for this cashless bruohaha that you are yarning for Olaisrich (m) Accra,Ghana Posts: 118 there is no new system that will not bring some distruption in its wake, the sucess or failure of such innovation is an adequate response to it over time that is when you can conclusively say its not working,i personally believe by the time we start to enjoy the advantages inherent,enlightenement/education which will be ongoing just like every other new innovation will make ppl get used to it, those countries might be advanced but like i have repeated we have the advantage of simply copying them, and the styles they have used in educating and enlightening and making this technology a regular use amongst the population. like i also wrote before remember less than 20 years ago in the united kingdom only few ppl had regular use of the internet, definitely select few used a mobile phone, technology does not take eons of years to catch up or for people to get used to, |
Toaskarity:they are on their own,and the good news is that as the days go by they are getting smaller in number deadie:wait for it they are counting the 150 trillion btw who is stopping you from going off to create your biafra |
^^^^^ good point |
Olaisrich:true, but if you check the dynamics, most of the transactions will probably be one off payment transactions besides people who deal in cash maybe the average mallam selling cows, rams e.t.c will re shedule and adjust their businesses to meet the demands of the contemporary business in nigeria. lets not lose sight of what we are talking about here, your cheque ,money transfer e.t.c will still be operational besides you can always do a before and after cash withdrawal i.e withdraw before 12 am and then another withdrawal early next day. besides the cash withdrawal limit will be based to a large extent on the volume of cash on a day to day basis so your account manager will be given a clear discrestion on increasing the limit,i am sure you will agree with me that a situation where an old man who just lodged his pension in his account and then checking 3 days later to find zero credit will be delighted with these sort of checks and balances. femmy2010:fair enough i cant dispute that,i was only stating the potentials femmy2010:true but the security situation cannot be compared to what is obtained in nigeria besides the cash economy we have going at the moment has led to so mqny other problems an example of this is corruption in politics which will be drastically reduced. the truth is that large withdrawals even though its your money and you have a right to it,fuels crime, corruption, inflation and a host of other societal ills femmy2010:one thing you should realise is that if we dont set goals then there s no incentive to strive for a better economic reform in the country, even if we dont achieve this by 2020 if lamido can keep the momentum going and we get more of pro active and foward thinking economic reforms that in itself will keep us on our toes and move the country foward the funny thing is that one of the greatest beneficiaries of a cash less economy will be our political reforms which people are not seeing yet. do we even know what money laundering means in nigeria talk less of taking pro active and decisive actions? i will love nigeria to get to a stage whereby if outrageous amounts of money are found on people it should be seized by the efcd untill you can explain the source of it |
@inspired m tell your friend to find some tricks to draw the woman and child back to nigeria then let the full might of the nigeria family law descend upon her lol its a shame but in the order of hierachy in this country 1.the woman is the boss and top honcho 2.the children is next in the pecking order 3.the dog or cat is next in order of seniority 4.the husband is the last also tell your friend to check out these father's rights sites, there are many but fathers for justice are one of the most popular http://www.fathers-4-justice.org/ usewisdom:tram in uk? |
femmy2010:we also have the precedence of a relatively cash free economy not only in many western societies, but in some parts of africa moreover the gsm technology was not as advanced in uk for a fact in the early 90s same as the internet almost the same time it was catching roots in nigeria. like i stated before, the advantage of lamido's cashless reform at this time is that we only need to understudy already established societies like the uk,usa, europe, south africa and we cant go wrong. nigerians complained at the advent of credit cards and other innovations but now getting used to it dont nit pick the disadvantages, but think of the advantages and how much safer it will make the society many armed robbers ill not even bother breaking into houses again, what armed robber wants to risk capture for 300,000? there are armed robbers in western world as well, but they don bother with home invasion because there is no cash, unless they want to pack stereos, sofas and maybe get the bank card and withdraw the daily limit. a situation where armed robbers will shoot people believing they were holding out on them will cease |
Olaisrich:they will cope, and they will get used to it.remember the times before gsm?all those demographics didnt know the first thing about using a mobile phone but these days the market men/women,the carpenters all have one if your car breaks down you ring a mechanic and he ll come fix yor car wherever you are remember less than 10 years ago,a lot didnt even know how to open their emails, internet cafe operators collected 200naira or more to help register for a yahoo email these days virtually everyone has a basic knowledge. the advantages far outweight the reservations you have stated |
Toaskarity:that is the issue here, the agitators of biafra are not even giving the leadership any chance at all before going on and on about biafra, now when a slice of the national cake is given to them they dont reject it but collect it ,eat and when its finished biafra biafra again it doesnt work that way and they cant eat their cake and have it at the same time. we all want true fiscal federalism,at least all the major ethnicities are agreed on this point owobokiri:the problem with your comment is that you are not the mouth pice of oil producing states, while you are saying this there are equally some oil proucing states who either want to remain with nigeria and there are some who do not want to be a part of the south east even if the country is broken down to regional areas. dont mix two different entities up BIAFRA and NIGER DELTA in present day nigeria are totally different besides nigeria owns both the oil, gold and every mineral resources,i dont see you complaining in the 60s/70s when you were living off the proceeds of the ground nut pyramids, agriculture e.t.c |
this is a really sad narrative and should be a wake up call for muslims, hausas and no hausas and nigerians in general e.t.c. in the past when incidents occured where the almajiris in concert with foreigners ran amok killing and destroying properties i have always stated that they are as much victims as those killed and displaced from their houses. the problem of almajiris have been around for decades yet sucessive governments both federal and state have not deemed it fit to do anything about it apart from this, the so called elder states men who are of northern stock ,northern traditional leaders too have conveniently ignored this malaise and we all expect them to continue wallowing in poverty gently without any negative reactions. nigerians in general should begin to take their social responsibility seriously and extend a hand to help, educate these children we complain from now till tomorrow but none of us will take the step to actually foster, adopt or help any of them out in any way we can . so called nigerian youth co-ordinators went to wine and dine with good luck jonathan, but im sure no one even though this serious enough to warrant a mention.any problem we keep on glossing over and covering up will not disappear but keep on festering and getting worse, these children must be shown a sense of belonging we must begin to change their mind set, enlighten and educate them habour them and they and all of us will be the better for it,no almajiri will eat sleep in your house and be shown love and then join anyone to burn houses or kill people these are the actions of ppl who have no hope and who areangry with everybody. |
the problem i have with the lunch/gathering is not the invitation itself or even the money issue but the fact that like one feyi fawehinmi's article in saharareporters the information was not shared with the generalityof youths.secondly it is a real shame that the opportunity to take absolute advantage of this pedestal given for the first time to so called nigerian youths co-ordinators was mis used and turned into another GEJ praise fest. a revolutionary wind of change is blowing right accross the middle east led in large numbers by the youths, achieving great results, and here we are with our own youths soiling their hands with the filthy lucre of GEJ handout. when are the youths in nigeria and beyond going to be ready to actually take pro active and serious steps to be taken seriously? in the last election what is the percentage of the youths that stood for an electoral posts, are they planning to do so in the next election these are the pertinent points which should have been looked at. lastly i personally believe that these guys are just opportunists who are largely taking advantage of the disaray and the vacum in youth leadership when did chude jideonwo start representing majority of the youths?even the future awards is not an accurate reflection of the average nigerian youth |
i dont see many south easterns complaining about secession now that national cake is rolling down their throats, nwazurike and the rest of the ndigbo biafra agitants are being suspiciously quiet these days.probablywhen the national cake digests and they have chopped and cleaned mouth the noise will start again |
^^^^ you too gbasky jare lol |
vinmol:dont be resistantto change,do you get requests to be paid 300,000 every single day or most times in the week? if you do then you dont have a small business but a large one big enough to have POS system and if you dont then surely you will manage and it wont be as serious as you are making out besides the man said it is not cast in stone meaning it could be abover 150 it is the principle behind it that you should think about and embrace. the way it is dont here is that there is a basic withdrawal limit for most accounts but for high value accounts who make large withdrawals be it business or personal the withdrawal limit is substantially higher so everybody will be catered for |
Claracuzio:agreed that the system is not perfect are the charges not better than the dangers associated with lugging large amounts of cash up and down? are the charges not better than the present system where yahoo yahoo boys will infiltrate your account and clear out untold amounts in a single day? besides we are advancing and we are learning, the banks might be taking baby steps, but they are not stagnant and advancing slowly but surely Claracuzio:you forget all these reforms have already been tried and tested in the western world, the beauty of what the man is proposing is that we dont need to create but just adapt it to our own peculiar banking system and needs, if the western world can create and make it work then i see no reason why we cant suceed |
it is really puzzling for people to see a cashless economy in this day and age as a bad idea. apart from the obvious advantage of cutting the rate of armed robbery it will also serve to reduce the rate of bank fraud, so if your atm or your bank account is compromised there is a ceiling to the daily withdrawal before you discover and put a stop to it as opposed to the situation where millions of naira is withdrawn in a matter of days. it will help for a smoother business transaction cause now i can transact so many businesses at the swipe of a card . even though the interests and the charges the banks make at he momenare outrageous, compared to the peace of mind it is a price worth it,but i believe 300,00 as a daily limit or up to 500,000 for selected few depending on the amount in the account and the usage, purpose, business e.t.c a company account or a multi millionaire/billionaire might need a daily withdrawal well over 150000 but a run of the mill bank account 150-200k |
^^^getting your hands dirty??the man is not asking you to commit murder or steal anything |
shotster50:no i was in nigeria for like 5 months o,extended working holiday how is the economy treating you came back to hear everyone complaining about d cameron and his slash/cut cut slash i think the guy and osbourne must have worked as a butcher in their previous life lol reindeer:yes o,if you live in uk,go to the shop under the hotel on edgeware road its run by an egyptian man once he knows you are nigerian he will start giving you a vip treatment Akolawole:its not about the numbers but the buying power |
agabaI23:sounds like a worthwhile initiative, although i live outside nigeria but count me in as i am always willing to give my time in service of our country good luck ![]() |
if you go along the lenght of oxford to edgeware road on a sunny summer afternoon then you will find out that the hausas have created a reputation as big spenders.if you want respect as a nigerian go into any of the shops and tell them you are hausa they will almost roll out the red carpet for you, saw babangida and chris uba in close proximity for the first time in edgeware road shopping as if pounds sterling was going out of circulation |
