Northern youths under the aegis of Arewa Youth Consultative Forum have expressed support for Senator Bukola Saraki in his bid to become the next president of the Senate.

President of the forum, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, said in a statement on Sunday that Saraki, who represents Kwara-Central senatorial district, had the leadership traits necessary to preside over the Senate.

He said, “We admit that in both the Senate and House of Representatives, we have vibrant and amiable personalities bubbling with energy to embark on the duty to turn around Nigeria for the better. In this vein, I call on Senator Bukola Saraki to make himself available in order to provide leadership in the Senate.

“This call has become imperative when we look at track records and capacity to deliver which leaves no one in doubt about his capability and competence.”

Yerima said the incoming Muhammadu Buhari administration would need a strong legislature in order to fulfill its campaign promises.

He maintained that Saraki would be able to bring Buhari’s plans to fruition if he was the Senate president.

He said, “It is based on this understanding that we wish to call on committed patriots and genuine lovers of our nation to present themselves for leadership positions in both the Senate and House of Representatives.

“As we all know, the legislature plays a vital and significant role in a democracy; it is indeed a citadel. That is why we must do everything possible to ensure that we have not only capable hands but those that can deliver.”

Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).

According to our investigation, both men who are supposed to be candidates of the national leader of the party Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not be enjoying the support of the Jagaban of Borgu kingdom that is expected to press for their inclusion. National Weekender learnt that their names were initially pencilled down on the list still being worked on before final vetting by the party’s national leadership but on advice of a very powerful chieftain in the South West, the names of the duo were erased.
