Olufemi1400: Good day Nairalanders, been following this thread after a friend told me about it. I had a VISA interview in which I got denied at the U.S embassy at Abuja on the 23rd of December 2021. I informed my school after the interview that ill like to defer my admission and I am working towards the fall 2022 admission date. I would be grateful if anyone here can share their piece as this would be helpful I got into Benedict College to study computer engineering. I got a Scholarship which also covers the full cost of my tuition. I'm 21 years of age also. My transcript goes thus: 1st attempt- denied VISA interview date- 23rd of December Location- Abuja V.O was a young Asian american guy Undergraduate course of study- Computer engineering. Tuition and fees- $23000 Scholarship- $14000 Deficit-$9000 College- Benedict College
V.O- Have you travelled out before Me- No, I haven't
V.O-I see you have a partial scholarship, who is expected to pay the rest Me-I got a full tuition scholarship, my dad is expected to cater for the remaining cost.
V.O- Ok, what does your dad do? Me- My dad is a medical director of Vines hospital, he is also a medical consultant for hospitals within and outside Nigeria, he also goes for medical outreaches within and outside Africa.
V.O-Do you have a Bank statement with you Me- Yes I do, I gave it to him, (just flipped some pages, and after a while handed it back to me.
V.O-I see you graduated from high school in the year 2017, what have you been doing since then Me- Shortly after graduating from high school, I joined the education USA program at the U.S consulate Lagos, where I was guided by advisors in applying to colleges, at the same time I served as a volunteer whereby I was tasked with duties like printing membership ID cards. I also took series of college level coding courses in python and machine learning that is going to be useful to me as a prospective computer engineer. V.O- I'm sorry, I won't be able to give you VISA.
I look forward to reapplying again this coming fall, I would be grateful f I could be shown places where you think I committed some errors or places I could do better, and also tips when I’m filling my next DS-160 Where you asked your age or it was just the question of what have you been doing since high school that was asked |

Symplyannaa: Congratulations Please I got admission to study nursing but my Ds. 160 was complicated at first interview so I got delayed. I graduated 2016 from high school ,please what should be my reply because I don’t want to include my BSC.
Then is this a good home tie for graduation plan after studying nursing in USA?
A degree in this course will help me get a position as a registered nurse in opm federal hospital in Nigeria, where I will use my medical knowledge to promote health in the Middle East and put a change on public health in Nigeria.Educating the public on how to eradicate STDs,Morbidity issues, Maternal-Mortality in my society.
Pls note my church is my sponsor as well Hope is not a red flag I have read stories about people who studied different courses in their undergraduate level but still went to the US for nursing. You studying economics and now want to change to nursing is not a red flag in my opinion. You should be able to tell the VO why you have decided to switch. Preferably a personal story or something really convincing. There're lot of stories like yours online especially on YouTube. Go online and familiarise yourself with the likely questions and answers. If you still decide to remove the fact that you've gotten a bachelors degree before, then be ready to explain what you've been doing since you graduated high school to the VO. My 2cent Best regards |

Pinky247: Good day everyone..please i am very new here. I need guidance and counsel on this issues pls Am 34 yrs ,i want to apply for usa study visa to a community college for associates of nursing..am choosing this program cos of the time duration which is just 2 years .. My problem now is ..will this look good to a VO or do i apply to universities instead and for the nursing program am quite confused on how to convince a VO why i cant do nursing in Nigeria, and what will i do it nursing after i graduate....To me i just feel with nursing they might think i just want to relocate. Am also thinking of studying speech and language therapy if nursing doesn't flow well.. pls i need good counsel i dont mind paying for it pls .... Am married....last school rest is waec ...did microbiology for almost 4 yrs but dropped out.... Pls help ..thanks Ok I know someone that got denied on her first attempt because she was going for an associate degree. She went back and changed it to bachelors On her second visit she was asked what has changed and she told them of how her school said she could start directly without going through the associate path(I don't know how to really explain it to you though). So judging from that experience i don't think going for an associate is a good choice (although it might also be good because of your age) Be able to explain what you have been doing all these years(it could have been better if you have completed your microbiology because i don't know if you can mention that when you did not finish) This is just my 2cent Hopefully the gurus in the house can help better. |

Heya93: Finally, my visa got approved. After emailing them last week, as advised here, I got a mail from them the next day, saying I should drop my passport with DHL, which I did without hesitation. I collected my passport yesterday. I can't thank God enough, and I thank you all here for your advice. For those still having cases similar to mine (administrative processing), I wish you luck. From my experience, I learnt one should message them as frequent as possible so they would not forget one's case. Please how did you compose your emails? I also have a friend that's in same situation Please reply thanks |

vanessa969: Hi dear from what I understood from your message, you have your passport with you right?
I am sorry it’s difficult to hear but once the day of the interview they don’t collect your passport or they don’t give u a paper that says they are investigating it means that they didn’t approve. The admin processing if for everyone whether you were refused or not, then later they will update it. So try to work on getting another date but since your start date is January 3rd I feel the best thing for you is to defer.
PS: just my opinion pls Please what if your passport and other documents are with the VO and the person was given a yellow slip? |

Seemie: Hello everyone I got my visa approved at Abuja today 2nd attempt School -Troy university Course-Bsn Nursing Scholarship-50% Tution Interviewed by a tall kinda aged white man P.s: this did not go as smooth as I’m writing it now sha but this was the questions and answer I gave basically
V.o -Good morning, pass me your document Me- Goodmorning V.o- Have you ever been denied a visa Me- Yes I have V.o- when? Me- Aug 2nd V.o - Okay so what has changed since then(or something like that Sha) Me- Well I changed my degree from Asn to Bsn V.o -And why? Me-Well my plan was to go for a bsn degree after my Asn program but after I was denied the visa I spoke to the international student advisor in Troy university and she told me that Troy offers undergraduate course work in geriatric nursing and that I don’t need to go for an Asn degree first. V.o- Okay so who is sponsoring your degree Me- My dad is and I got a 50% tuition scholarship from the school V.o- What does your dad do? Me- My dad is a civil engineer, he owns a company called iconic construction company, they manage construction projects in Lagos,Abuja and port harcourt and he also deals with the selling and leasing out of trucks used in construction sites V.o- Okay that’s fine What’s your plan after your degree Me-Well,once I get the extensive knowledge and skills that I need from Troy university I will definitely come back to Nigeria and work as a geriatric nurse where my services are really needed,I will take up a job in a place like the UBTH in Benin or the National hospital here in Abuja where they have the biggest geriatric center in the country but in the long run I would love to own a geriatric center where the elderly can come and get the right treatment they deserve and I know this will not only provide jobs for people but will in turn get people interested in geriatric nursing. At this point he was just nodding and then he asked me what I said my father does again and I told him and then he said I will be approving your visa and I didn’t hear anything again I’m so happy and grateful to God. Congratulations |

It's the last stage for her admission decision She plans to go for nursing Kindly help vent this and point out any necessary additions or subtraction thanks
I am writing to bring to your notice about my 3-year lapse period after my graduation from high school. I graduated high school in the year 2018 and I decided it would be in my best interest to learn a skill or work and raise funds for myself right before I further my education.
After a month at home, I enrolled at Spring Computer Institute, Ughelli where I took classes on Microsoft office and Corel Draw. I had to stop my classes early 2019 to take care of my dad. He had an accident and I was always at the hospital with him. I started developing an interest in nursing during my time with him at the hospital because of the way the nurses handled the patients and responded to them. By the time he was discharged, I was already certain I would love to pursue nursing as a career choice.
2020 came with the COVID virus and we officially went into lockdown. But during the lockdown, I picked up and interest in baking and started learning while at home.
The new year brought us out of lockdown where I had to wait for the next academic session before applying for a university. I do hope this letter is able to pass across the reasons for the lapse in my education. |

Chynwem: Please guys is it a must to wear corporate to the embassy for interview? Also my statement of Acc for 6months is up to 300 pages, should I still go ahead and print it for the interview? One of the consular at the Lagos consulate when she was talking at a zoom meeting organised by EducationUSA Lagos said there was no special dress code for interviews that you can wear anything you're comfortable in. She even went on and said some ladies wear heels which she feels its not necessary and also inconvenient. #my opinion wear something decent and comfortable. Goodluck on your interview |
