Politics › Re: Abacha: Nigerian Leader That Never Travelled Outside The Shores Of Africa by LZAA: 8:27pm On Jul 28, 2018
mmb:
During the Abacha regime, Nigeria was in words and actions the true African leader. Throughout his time as head of state, Abacha never travelled outside Africa, perhaps to give effect to Nigeria’s Africa-centred foreign policy. The World Council of Mayors was hosted here in Abuja for the first and only time. Pope John Paul II was here on state visit. Nigeria was president of the UN Security Council during Abacha when the obnoxious apartheid policy of the minority white regime in South Africa was dismantled. For the first time in the history of Africa also, Abacha reversed a coup d’état and re-installed the overthrown democratically elected President Tejan Kabbah in Sierra Leone, when Nigeria’s General Maxwell Khobe successfully flushed out the Paul Koroma junta there. Nobody joked with Nigeria. Nigeria was well respected by all.

Lmao
Abacha didnt travel out cause the WHOLE world(minus nations under despots of course) rejected him.
He had to use proxies to stash stolen funds
Even mandela rejected him
Abiola would have lived if he had given up his mandate but he refused and was killed
Abacha on the other hand had gone too far hence he was killed

meethumb:
The chairman of the Ebonyi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Abas Egwu, has said there is the need for Hausa and Yoruba Muslims to recognize indigenous Igbo Muslims as equally genuine and committed adherents of Islam despite their small population and, therefore, give them robust support in the area of da’wah.

Egwu stated this in Abakaliki when he received the National Organising Secretary of the Ansar-Ud-Deen Society of Nigeria (ADS), Alhaji Ibrahim Kilani, who visited ADS members in the state.

According to Egwu, it is imperative for the Muslims in other parts of the country to help in the areas of establishment of Arabic and Islamic schools and building of mosques for ease of practice of Islam and the propagation of the religion in the eastern part of the country.

He commended what he called the fairness and impartiality of the state government towards Islam and Muslims, describing Ebonyi as the only state in eastern Nigeria which has a Muslim pilgrims board that is independent of the Christian board.

Alhaji Ibrahim Kilani said he was in the state to meet members of the Abakaliki branch of the ADS to rub minds with them on the fortune of the organisation.

Deadlytruth:
As for the bolded, the North initially believed in Federalism and didn't want this unitary system. Those who initially wanted this current structure were Igbos represented by Azikiwe and Ironsi. Now, going by the logic in the bolded, doesn't that suggest that Igbos were guiltier of the born-to-rule philosophy?

If Ojukwu couldn't have flouted Ironsi's order as head of military junta, why did he flount Gowon's order not to declare secession? Recall Gowon too was the head of the military junta's hierarchy at that moment?
Gowon and ojukwu were mates and there were far senior officers ahead of gowon
Ojukwu asked for military seniority to be observed and for ogundipe to assume leadership
Believe me if igbos were power hungry, the civil war would have started earlier than it did
Politics › Re: Disintegration, A Neglected Solution To Nation’s Challenges ― Senator Adeyeye by LZAA: 12:39pm On Jul 28, 2018
Deadlytruth:
If the assumption that the military thrives on centralized authority is a good excuse to justify Ironsi's Decrees, then why castigate the subsequent military governments for retaining Ironsi's Decrees? Or were those subsequent military governments forbidden from thriving like Ironsi's?
And why also is Gowon's administration (a military government) now being demonized for reneging on Aburi Accord which in principle was an extreme decentralization proposal?

The only Igbo/Igboid person who termed Ironsi's Decrees as silly was Nzeogwu.....in his interview with Ejindu. If Nzeogwu, a seasoned and sophisticated military officer, was of the opinion that Ironsi was silly for centralizing the authority, then it means the perception that the military only thrives in centralized authority is false.

The fact that neither Yorubas nor Northerners settle much in the East gives more credence to the fact that the silence from the East in the face of Ironsi's obnoxious decrees was entirely an Igbo thing.
U see what i'm saying
Unlike the yorubas northerners are in large numbers in the east
Again ejindu turned a discussion he had in the company of others with nzeogwu into an interview
And again lemme clear this up one last time
Apart from lagos (a former national capital) and ogun(proximity to lagos),igbos hardly go to other western places
The north even had more igbos
Military command is centralized, the govt being practised before ironsi will never have worked
Lemme give u an example
Wen isaac boro declared ND republic,if the eastern premier(military administrator) was symphathetic to his cause,he would simply have overruled ironsi's orders to capture him
This is akin to a colonel disobeying a General's orders
Nigeria is not,has not and will never be one
Anybody who thinks otherwise is only postponing the inevitable
The north are still stuck in the 60's wia the british told them to stay in nigeria and will reject restructing as it will stop that rubbish born to rule nonsense
As a result, the country will drift to its seperation

Was Azikiwe representing himself in the Parliament where he rejected secession proposals? How many of his fellow Igbos rose in disagreement with him right there in the Parliament?
When Ironsi promulgated his offensive centripetal decrees, there were public condemnations of it from the North, West and Midwest except in the East.
Its funny cuz the same decree ironsi promulgated was kept and enforced by successive military govts
Military thrives on centralised authority
They are not politicians
Oh btw many igbos(including our brothers in the mid west as it was then) called ironsi's decree silly and unnecessary
There was no outcry in the east because like it or not
1.yorubas hardly travel to other regions
2.northerners did not have the necessary qualifications to take top level civil jobs

Have you taken enough time to ponder on what surrogacy really is? The compliance, the risk of becoming a root to the end of your marriage, etc.?

If you want another child and don't want adoption, simply get her pregnant. Simple. If you don't want her pregnant based on medical grounds, I understand. If it's cos you(or she) don't want her banging shape 'lost' then be honest with yourselves and don't go that route.

Politics › Re: Nigerian Government Not Willing To Save For Rainy Day – CBN Cries Out by LZAA: 10:57am On Jul 25, 2018
1Ebiscoo:
The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Tuesday, warned the Federal Government to learn to save heavily from current improved crude oil sales for the rainy day.

CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, who read the communique of July MPC meeting in Abuja, said the committee, while discussing the economic report, observed that as the prices of crude oil increased in 2017 and 2018, the monthly allocation to various levels of government also increased, suggesting that Federal Government was not conscious of saving for the rainy day.

He said the committee had called on the apex bank to continue to build on the progress already made in arresting the trend to sustain the moderation in food inflation.

Emefiele said the MPC noted with satisfaction the fourth consecutive quarters of growth of real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and the positive growth outlook in the domestic economy.

“This is shown by the sustained improvement in the manufacturing and non manufacturing purchasing managers indices in the second quarter of the year,” he said.

He said the committee was, however, concerned about the liquidity impact of the 2018 expansionary fiscal budget and increasing FAAC distributions due to rising prices of crude oil as well as the build up to election related activities.

On the declining foreign reserves from $47.7 billion in May to $47.2 billion in June, Emefiele said the development had nothing to do with politics as being insinuated.

“What is happening is as a result of US Federal Reserve Bank normalisation. Since the interest rate has gone up in the US, and other advanced economies, in an attempt to stimulate their economies, these money that moved into the emerging economies are now being taken back and this means there will be so much outflow of cash than inflows. And of course we have our own share of it.

“But it must be noted that Nigeria has performed better than other emerging markets around the world, with a stabilised exchange rate because we have been able to build enough buffers to support our currency and that is why the exchange rate has remained stable.

“Countries like South Africa and others have had their currencies depreciated but the Naira remains stable at N360/$ at this time,” he added.

On currency swap update, the CBN Governor said: “China remains Nigeria largest trading partner and we are saying that those trading can be paid for using renminbi instead of dollars, because people who are importing using renmimbi we are offering some discounts since we have this soft deal with the Bank of China and we are encouraging people to embrace the use of renminbi for trade between Nigeria and China.”

Education › Re: JAMB Cautions Cyber Café Operators Against Extortion Of Candidates by LZAA: 9:51am On Jul 25, 2018
Okwyla:
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), on Wednesday, cautioned private cyber cafe operators against extortion of prospective candidates who want to upload their results on the board’s website.

The Head of Media of the board, Dr Fabian Benjamin, gave the caution in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Benjamin said that the caution became necessary following several complaints made to the board by the victims, on fraudulent activities by some private café operators.

He said the candidates complained of high amount of money they were being charged by such operators to upload their WAEC results on JAMB website.

“Not only do they charge them high, they also convince candidates who had already uploaded their results on the site to do same again.

“Candidates who have had their results uploaded at the point of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration need not do that again, except for those who registered with awaiting results.

“Those are the ones allowed to upload now on our website.

“This upload should not cost more than N100.

“No cyber café should charge more than this amount, however, if candidates can locate any of our Computer Based Test (CBT) Centres, it is free to make the upload there,” Benjamin said.

NAN correspondent who visited some of the cyber cafés in Bwari reports that while some charge a negotiable N500, few charge up to N1, 000 for the result upload.

The exercise follows the recent release of 2018 WAEC results and the announcement by JAMB that“leaders of institutions agreed that the First Choice Admission would be conducted from July 2 to Oct. 16’’.

According to the board, the Second Choice Admission is to commence from Oct.17 to Dec.17.

@POLITICSNGR

Below is a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, signed by the National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, on the recent defection of 15 senators and 36 house of reps members;

The All Progressives Congress (APC) notes the development in the National Assembly with the defection of some of our members from the Party.

In the last couple of weeks, our Party leaders have worked to stave off this situation as responsible Party leaders would do. It would appear however that the individuals involved have different considerations beyond the grievances that they were willing to discuss and which our leaders were willing to address.

As a truly democratic party, we respect the right of every citizen to political association.

Therefore, we urge our members to remain calm as we continue to work hard to position our party strongly for the next general elections.

APC remains in firm control of 25 states of the 36 states of the federation and maintains a clear majority in the federal House of Representatives and state assemblies.

We assure members and supporters that our great Party will continue to consolidate on our majority status in the leadup to the 2019 General Elections, even as our government continue to work hard to deliver on our promises to Nigerians.
