I clearly said that there might be better methods to calculate human growth. I acknowledged my limit and argued why my method was far better than Anony's.

Just read your links. Your first link agrees with me. The link says thatin 38 years we would add 2.4 billion people in the next 38 years and that the usa will add 100 million in 40 years.

So lets see the progression

a) World population
total world population = 7 billion
Ihedinobi's link's projection for 38 years = 9.4 billion (7b + 2.4b)
Total world population in 1974 (38 years ago) = 4 billion


4,7,9.4.

That is an Arithmetic progression. However it is a generalized arithmetic progression (differences of 3 and 2.4).

I used an arithmetic progression. My assumptions can be criticised but the measure is practical. If there is an x amount of number that gets added to the human population each generation then we can get the total number at any nth generation. Now, in reality, this number can not be constant, so we take an average number and keep it constant. The Arithmetic progression is simple and practical.


Anony's method will result in failure no matter what. A geometric progression rises at a rate too fast for the growth of a human population. You wont notice it at first since we are starting from 2 people but when the base gets higher, you will notice. Assuming you want to predict the growth of Nigeria with a geometric progression and assume that the Nigerian population will double every ten years;

Naija pop= 200 million people

common ratio (growth rate) = 2

In 40 years (4th sequence)


a4 = 200m * 2^4-1 = 800 million people.


How is that possible? Does anyone believe that Nigeria will reach 800 million in forty years?

Now Anony can spin this and claim that we should account for death. even if 10 million die every year, we would sill have 400 million people left.

Will Nigeria realistically reach the 400 million mark in 40 years?

there are a billion people in china. any geometric progression with a common ration of 2 will give you at least 2 billion people. By your geometric progression, China would reach 2 billion people at least in the next sequence.
