I don’t find it embarrassing because what makes you a Yoruba or Igbo is more than just geographical boundary.

They are not the first set of people that will spend all their lives in diaspora, we have several thousands of them here in USA that are American citizen who never set their foot once in Nigeria and yet they mostly identify and flaunt the Nigeria heritage.

I’ve seen your past Nairaland post and it showed that you’re just another Yoruba hater and you’re mostly saying this because you thought most of those guys are Yorubas and not Ibos.

Have a nice day.
You are hilarious. You saw my posts and ignore the ones where I was praising and carrying Anthony Olufemi Joshua on my head?
You remind me of Hell Ruffy AKA El Rufai. grin

Oga, I have said this for every human with a Nigerian-sounding name that achieves something abroad and is then hailed in Nigeria. As if the investment was done by Nigeria.
I find that embarassing.
If this post had praised their Yoruba or Igbo heritage, I will have no problems with that.
But praising Nigeria, when Nigeria has done nothing for these ones? That is clearly dishonest.

Maybe u can now eat your words. I will say again I am Nigerian than I am British and most of those students whom I am fortunate to know through LinkedIn connection will probably say same.
Then it is pathetic that you use such uncouth language.
That is certainly not representative of the Imperial and Durham students that I know.

NB: It is a bit unwise and childish putting your ID card on a public forum. That’s some emotional reaction there— emotions will only get you in trouble. There are no tangible benefits you get from winning or loosing an argument on a public forum where anonymity is the protocol. Trust me, no tangible benefits.

What is embarrassing about these students being attributed with Nigerians? One of their parents or both are Nigerians and that reflected in their Nigerian names.

There are countless Nigerians in USA alone that I know that doesn’t have a Nigerian passport and yet they can’t deny their root to Nigeria.

I have a colleague of mine, he was born in the USA and never been to Nigeria before in his whole life but yet he loves and project Nigeria more than I do. He doesn’t even have the Nigerian passport coz his parent doesn’t want him to go to Nigeria (I don’t know their reasons tho).

I have two question for you:
What makes one a Nigerian?

What makes one a Yoruba or Igbo?
My point:
They are being praised for an Education that is an investment of the British.
Tough to say, but it is a simple fact.

A total British education system- from their KS1-3/ Year 4 to Year 12 years, GCSE, A-Levels, etc.
There is, of course, no Nigerian input in this education.
Why Nigerians are quick to claim them bemuses me. Gosh, dont you find it embarassing?

Such uncouth language. You just gave up yourself as one that never went to Durham and Imperial.

What is decidedly British? I went to school in England myself. I was one of them.
They are British.
Carry the red passport from birth.
Only flood the Nigerian embassy when they want a visa to go to spend a holiday in their teenage age in Nigeria.
And run after 2 weeks.

Yet Nigerians will drool over them instead of using the opportunity to call out the Nigerian regime for consistently underfunding education in its budget.
Again, it is embarassing.

I have volunteered as a STEM volunteer in Brampton sir. I taught them A-level Maths (C1, C2, C3, C4) and Statistics, S1 & S2 on the old OCR curriculum.
I also volunteered in schools in East London.
Those students are decidely British and this must be respected. We excite ourselves over students and people that other countries have put in the hard work and offered opportunities to. I think this is embarassing.

They are Nigerians regardless. I have never seen an Indian anywhere be it the U.S, Canada, U.K or anywhere who doesn't acknowledge their Indian heritage. You can be British and still be a Nigerian. It is even legal.
Let them acknowledge it first. They dont. Most of them dont even have the Nigerian passport.
Dont force Nigeria into them.

El Rufai... Divide and rule.

Break up with NBA through making the decision of the NBA look like it is North vs South, Muslim vs Christian, PDP (which they have repeatedly say it is dead) vs APC.

It would be interesting to see if the NBA can withstand the "divide and rule" tactics. It would be huge surprise.
Nigeria is extremely divided at the moment and "divide and rule" is very easy to implement.

This fire the North started will be hard to quench, because the Government seem to have abandoned the people and the people have no choice but to vent in anyway they can.
What is happening in the North has been repeated in Sudan and Somalia.

It won’t end well.
Arms and ammunitions in the hands of non-state actors. Communities reliant on themselves and vigilantes for security. Herdsmen terrorists and bandits building communities for themselves, collecting taxes, etc. Farming communities displaced. IDPs growing in leaps and bounds. Political leaders now camped in their state capitals or in Abuja (like the Yobe State Governor).

This won’t end well. I am not sure the Northern political elite know the fire they’ve toyed with. Because the North and indeed Nigeria requires strong leadership with a clear direction at this time, which Buhari is unable to provide.

If u say some other Madams "would give the househelp a good beating", would those Madams record a video of themselves while giving their house helps "a good beating"?

There’s no evidence of maltreatment, beating, searing of body in the video. I know certain people, personally know them, who would give the househelp a good beating and, if she’s alive, send her back to the village. They will see this video and say the Misstress is nice.

I am drawing all my conclusions from the evidence before me, which is the video.

You could well assume that the madam used a pitch-fork and removed the heart of the househelp for sacrifice to the gods undecided
It will make a good fiction and I’m sure you can write a good plot for a novel.

Oga, by assuming there was a maltreatment, you are stepping into the realm of assumptions.
Assumptions have no boundaries. I can come up with hundreds of assumptions. You can too. And the discussion looses its value.

I’ll rather work with evidence and reach conclusion with evidence. If you have new evidence that suggests that her madam beat her etc, bring it. But not assumptions, egbon.

Nobody is praising anybody. In a rotten society like nigeria where little kids are enslaved in the name of housemaid, abused and dehumanized all because they were born poor, it is only right to look at the picture holistically instead of jumping into conclusions just because one evil madam (a coward at that) said it.
I have seen a number of housemaids in my life.
In person, in news, online, etc.

The difference is clear with this lady, unless I want to pretend to myself. She is looking much fresher than children with both parents living. The first reaction of a wicked woman who’s caught her househelp almost poisoning her, is to beat the living daylight out of her.

This lady hasn’t done that. She had great restraint, in my opinion. She’s merely extracting a testimony for her evidence/ for the police.

I would not support, overtly or covertly, any househelp who attempts to KILL her boss. I will not lend my voice or words to defend such evil.
I will not rationalise such evil. Sorry, I am different.

Psychopaths are also different and I respect that.
