All this talk of values of different cultures is ******** Children out of mixed marrages are considered as lost.
The Nigerian looks at the culture o his/her white partner or foreigner partner as rotten.
What do you call , calling your child all the way from god knows were to give you the knife that is right in front of you .(all you have to do is lift your ass.
What is kneeling down.
What of the yes sir bull ***** is sir and madam our culture?.
Then flogging a child what do you call that. Try flogging an animal in Public on the streets of Europe or USA and see what will happen to you,
Or a teacher that says bring your face to slap.

CrimeRe: Is It Legal In Nigeria To Beat Your Wife? by mamaput(f): 11:36am On Apr 22, 2006
Police my ass.
The Police are not fools, they know very well.
No family will support their "Wife/Daughter" going to police and carrying family matter out of the house.
A woman that goes to police (without her family) has lost the case.
No one will listen to her story again.

@Chaining
You're probably not far off the mark and there are valid reasons for this, some of which have been highlighted above.

Personally I think or rather say, parenting in Nigeria is done collectively by people with the same ideas, who were brought up the same way mostly under a strict regime of discipline and respect for human values. When you're abroad that responsibility rests solely on the shoulders of the parent and should a child show signs of waywardness the parent feels they have failed. The feeling comes partly because they see others as being successful in raising their children the Nigerian Way'

If we take a step back from our cultural perspective, we'd realise that the common denominator of well raised children is respect for themselves, others and value of their community regardless of differing race or culture of parents.

I rest my case
Nigerians are one of the biggest racist and worse still tribelist that i have ever seen .
They bring up their children in fear as in you must do so because i say so.
If need be they humiliate the children. flogging knelling down and picking pin are corporal punishment.
And then the pretending is the best. What i don't know cant bother me.
These children still do what they want behind the back of mum and dad.
What dose it bring me if my children say goodmorning every day when they are spoiling the family name behind my back .

Dose the language you speak change the person you are?
Are you trying to say that everything from the western world is Bad.?
Look I dont drink for example and nothing will make me start even if am sitting in a den of drinkers.
There are good and dad people every were and rude people too.
There is more to life than a "yes sir " system

Coldstepper or whatever you call yourself,
I beg your pardon, someone's doing a survey in here. And you're not the person. You'd do well to mind your business and stop casting aspersions on what matters most to someone else.

No matter what you say or think, the Delta region (meaning, the Niger Delta region) is that region where most of the wealth of Nigeria comes from. It's through the wealth of that place that most Nigerians (including yourself) have been able to have a lifeline - you may not understand.

And in spite of the negative public description that region has acquired over the years, well meaning people all over the world knows that the people in that region are peace loving people who'd rather their rights are not trampled on but will lay down their lives to claim what's rightfully theirs for now and future generations yet unborn.

I'll urge you to withdraw that negative statement about Warri and the Delta region credited to you .

You said you're from Anambra. Well, I know Anambra has passed through hell in recent times. All the godfatherism + gangsterism of Ngige and Uba is still very fresh in our minds. The Okija saga is still very fresh too. Let me hold my tongue before I go ballistic with you.
ono:
@cold(Hot)stepper,

I'm sorry, but I've got to take it seriously with you. This site hosts more than 20,000 people of diverse background and nationalities. When you say something bad about a place, like you just did up there, you send negative messages across to prospective investors and other well meaning people about that place.

That's why it's good to choose your words, and know when to speak and not speak. You're still young, just take that from me as an advice.

I've never had any ocassion to join issues with you on this forum. But I must let you know that I dislike people who use foul words on others or things that matters to others. I also know that there are bad places all over the world, even in the US. So, don't make our own look so bad.
Once again am from Anambra state same to you

Thats why i like mama. Anyways, since u have cleared the air as per this gay thing which meant guy. Then i will sleep ova the issue and give my candid comments 2moro. As for now, let her do as instructed by Desiree. Thats the first step because she seems to tend to act like a switch and that aint nice at all, especially if she wants to catch that big fish in sight : Future Hubby!!!
Like a switch ?this was her first real boyfriend the others were more like holding hands and a kiss or so.

But just maybe you have a point she is good in hiding feelings and many people think she is cold.

FamilyRe: Best Way to Punish Kids? by mamaput(f): 6:38pm On Apr 19, 2006
I don't punish my kids i keep telling them they are grounded but i don't mean it.
If they do wrong I they know they did wrong.
I let them know i know and i let them know why I don't want them doing it (what ever).
Thats it-
If my big girl gos to a club. I do not just tell her don't go because i said so.
I have to tell her why i don't want her to go.
And if she still goes She will also explain why she still went. And how she got home.
And as she is telling her story i will ask questions that make her look stupid.

Eg How did you get there , how did you come home what if some one had raped you at the junction.
How old was the driver how many drinks did he have.

To the poster people that are that are too strict wake up with a bad suprise because these kids go crazy when they smell a little freedom.
There is no topic under the sun that my kids cannot discuss with me.
From sex to drugs to what ever .
If there is one thing that i teach my kids, it is to say no and a big no.
CultureRe: Raising Your Children The Nigerian Way When Married To A Foreigner by mamaput(f): 5:59pm On Apr 19, 2006
This is what i have to say bull-shit and rubbish.
My kids are polite and i teach them to say their mind in a polite way.
There was this Nigerian lady that came here once, she sat on her fat ass and asked my daughter to get her a glass of water . "Bring me water" I told her my child is not a slave and if she cant put please my daughter is going no were.
2 I don't pick friends for my kids they go out with who they like.No need fooling ourselves them am not always with them. If they want to smoke they will smoke, if they want to drink, they will drink etc down to the bad language.
The only thing i can do is teach them to be faithfull to themselves and not copy others because its cool.
Even when it comes to grownups. Not all have good intentions.
If i never allowed them to say no , they will not say no when some bastard grown up is trying to mess them up.
Am not saying they should be rude but children are not slaves and have the right to a mind of their own.

I see OK guy.
Its not easy I would normally use a harder word for a Gay person its not in my language.
Well the kids are on holiday and all want to use the computer.
I normally write in the mornings when they are at school before i go to work.
Let me put it this way i feel for her but she will get over it.
The last boy that dumped her is still begging to this day that he wants her back.
Well she has a holiday job now and her girlfriends are all taking good care of her to keep her busy
RomanceRe: Getting Dumped by mamaput(op): 8:49am On Apr 19, 2006
The full story.
B4 she started going out with him , she was dating another gay.
They had just been seeing for 2 weeks when he threatened to break a bottle over her head for dancing with another boy (a boy that is a good friend) .
Well she dumped this gay more or less for the present boyfriend.
It just so happened that the present boyfriend ask her out when she had made up her mind to dump the other gay .
But he knows the story and is now saying she has done it be4 dumping one for the other . But you cant compare (after two weeks one cannot even call it a boyfriend).
He says that she will dump him because he dose not have so much time for her.
And that her friends with advise her to do SO too.
But this month all the boys in his group dumped their girlfriends because of so called training.

whitelexi:
If I talk now, they will kill me! So let me keep my mouth to myself grin
Don't make me laugh.
But she feels bad about it .
Like i say i don't let her sit at home waiting for boyfriend not at that age, she goes out with her girlfriends and she behaves herself when she dose.
And not even a husband can demand that a woman should sit in the House.
I find it stupid to say am breaking up with you because MAYBE you may go out with another gay. What is maybe?
Both did not want to go to too public places with her , according to them they dont want to fight.
So what if someone tries to chat up your girlfriend?
Cant a gay just stay cool?

My oh my this is the second time my poor daughter is been dumped for the same reason.
among other things .
But the main reason is .
They tell her that its only a matter of time be4 she will dump them for another guy.
But she never gave them the impression.
And its not her fault that Boys approach her almost every day,
What do you say to that .
Is it normal to dump a girl just because you think you cant keep her.
She dose not go out with other gays or even give them her number. so why,
