Saw this article and my heart broke for the mum who said she has zero clue. Plus see all the Nigerian names in it! I can’t imagine the parents heart break. You move here for a better life & your child ends up with a life sentence. Very sad.

You don't have to relate with the parents. If you force it, you will struggle as you will likely have different interests. I only relate with the nice ones among them.

My own story: my son is the only black in his class and has loads of friends in his class. He does not get to play with any of them after school as well except when he is invited for birthday parties (which is quite often, for example he currently has about 5 parties this month).
One thing I did is to ensure he attends most of the birthday parties whenever it is not on Sundays. So, he can use the time to bond with his classmates.
When he had his birthday party, I was worried that a lot of his friends will not want to attend his own birthday party but to my amazement, he kept requesting for more invitation cards and we eventually had more people than we budgeted for.

So, don't worry too much about it. Just ensure that you let your kids know that they are loved. Also, get your kid involved in different after school activities where they can make friends.

100% agree with you. I’m the socially awkward parent Sef so I struggle to make small talk while the mums are super nice. I’ve learnt not to force it and only talk when I’m in the mood smiley

Plus as you said, kids are different. I have one kid like yours who’s a social butterfly and the class leader and 2 who are super selective and will only make friends with a small group.

The trick is not to force it and let things flow naturally.

Greetings fam. How do you manage your children not having playmates after school. This is because here parents tend to shield their kids from playing with other kids who are not from their race. Talking about other black kids, they might not be always available to play with your kids. I believe that kids needs to play and bond with other kids of their age for them to grow up normally.

Honestly, don’t sweat it too much. Brown skinned people are also very scarce where I am. My kids are the only ones in an entire school (pri +sec combined). As Ticha said, they play a lot in school already, plus here fortunately everyone invites the whole class to parties so their social calendar is busy.

Just get them involved in extra curricular activities where you can and keep raising them to be confident. Also, (and I tried this recently for my daughter), you can initiate a play date request yourself if your child is particularly close to one person no matter the race. You’ll be shocked that the parent’s are open to it as well.

Looking for a live in nanny/ carer for my child incase anyone got.

Location : Cambridgeshire ( Haverhill)

I hope you find. Otherwise it’s normally a formal letter to the Head of School informing them that he will be relocating to live with this father.

It’s not a big deal. As long as you inform the school and it’s acknowledged.

Good morning everyone

I got two offers from University of the creative arts Epsom and Robert Gordon university Scotland. Which one do you think is better considering the fact that I have four children within ages 7to16?

Which of these two locations are better considering employment, condusive environment for children, cost of living and so on ?

Please mothers, what do you think ? Thanks
and God bless you for your response

I’ll wait for more experienced people to add their take but I reckon that Epsom is generally a posher area. So cost of living will be higher than Aberdeen but the access to quality schools for your kids will also be more.

If you’re worried about diversity you should also think well as Aberdeen is more diverse.

I enjoyed it so wanted to share.... it about how a single mom in the UK ( father died during a family trip to Nigeria ) was able to shape and mold her 4 children into success. She the mom to Chiwetalu Ejiofor ,Zain Asher (CNN) and a daughter who is a gp

Thanks for sharing. I watched it yesterday and thought that it’s unfortunate that the way our country is set up now, most parents wouldn’t be comfortable sending their young kids home for 2 years.

I see the benefit but fear won’t allow me sad

Oh woow… anyone else has any inputs please ?

We also travelled with expired passports for my kids in Dec. They have 2nd passports though.

When immigration asked we said there’s no consulate near us plus Covid issues.

Not sure what the situation will be now that things have eased off but your country can’t turn you away from entering. Las las you’ll be asked to pay for Visa on arrival which is what we expected but they let us go without qualms.

Is it really a negative?

I just started taking driving lessons and before this I had never driven or learnt how to in naija and I wish I had.

I've had 3 two hour lessons and I've had an earful from my instructor. I don't even know if I'm making progress at all and it's even automatic. I don watch YouTube grin videos tire.

Omo I don tell hubby say it's not a do or die. If I don't know how to drive nothing spoil, he will continue running errands. Lol

Consider if your Instructor is really the right fit for you. He/she should be getting you to relax not filling you with anxiety.

I had one trial lesson with an old man that rubbed off me wrong so I decided not to go ahead. I knew I made the right decision when he text me to say I wasted his time because I decided not to go ahead smiley My next instructor was very chill and made it easier to pass.

So if this person is always shouting at you, change them. You’re not paying money to be verbally harassed.

Thank you for your prompt response. We are still in passport stage, capturing of bio-data. Her dad took her in for capturing and the immigration officer, on sighting her hand didn't even allow her make attempt but just discharge them to go get the doctors exempt from fingerprints document.

I will reattempt the capturing again with her offering to assist spread her hands. I will also get the doc certificate in case, they refuse at the passport office.

Just wondering if UK Visa biometrics exempts anyone from finger print scanning.

The link suggests that there might be exemptions on the basis of disability if you provide proof. But it’s a case by case Kinda thing.

Your approach is okay. However, depending on how old she is, if you can get an exemption for her with a report it might be better to do so and don’t force/assist her to spread her fingers. As she grows older, you may not always be with her. It’s better it’s on record that she is exempt, than you assist her today and can’t assist her tomorrow.

You get?

Please I need clarifications.
We are in the process of getting international passport for our children. Our 2nd daughter has a disability in the right side of her body such that she cannot press her right fingers flat by herself for biometrics as the fingers are folded.
At the passport office today, we were directed to go to general hospital to get a doctor certification for fingerprint bypass with a picture of her upper body showing the hands.
Now, if we do that and they do not take her finger prints, what will happen at UK Visa biometrics, are such exemption honoured as I know that UK doesn't play with biometrics.
Was thinking if the passport office can allow us help her press her fingers on the machine for the finger print impression.
Please, anyone who can help to please clarify this as I am very worried about it. Thank you.

Did you offer to help? Can you ask to speak with a manager perhaps? Politely. How did she do the biometric for her passport? It’s also possible that the Uk guidelines is simply what they are following and the doctors report will help you avoid future stress.

The link below suggests that’s the case

I hope to be in UK by August on a tier 2 visa but my family will join me later on, possibly by December or January.
Please, how do I sort the children's school out as school would have resumed in UK by September? Do Primary and secondary admits within the year? Thank you

September Intake is typically sorted by February in most UK councils. However, your best bet would be to reach out to your local council as soon as the kids arrive. If they are of school age they will place them.

Yes they do throttle the speed at times. You are paying too much for the services. I am currently with BT and i have been paying £33 for 150Mb download and 34Mb upload. I still feel its too much but they have beenvery reliable. I wouldn't even go with any other provider as they all piggyback on BT infra except Virgin

Yes. It’s the fact that we know we pay a lot and still can’t boast of a seamless service that is annoying. Thanks, I’ll take all the advice shared and find a way forward.

You might not go with this option but let me still put it.
I and my household use 3 sim only contract. We put the sim in a phone and every other devices use it's hotsopt. Smart tv, Netflix, laptops, phones etc all connected and works absolutely well.
Unlimited data, no cap.
£16/month
Confirm that your area has 5G with 3 network and the phone is 5G enabled as well else don't try it.

Wawu. Very ingenious. Something to KIV. Thank you.

You can call them and request to downgrade to broadband only, even with broadband and landline only you are still paying too much.

i used to be with them and was paying £27 a month..broadband and landline, after a year i renegotiated it down to £25.

Currently with talk talk, started with £28 a month..broadband and landline, a year into the 18months contract i switched to another supplier within 3days talk talk called me and offered me a better contract with the same speed..which was all i wanted, wasn't interested in leaving them, just wanted to pay less and it worked.

You can do the same.
Thank you. I’ll study my options with them and try this. Otherwise, it’s adios!

What you can get depends on the area.
Virgin charges a premium because of their fibre smiley.
If any other Openreach-associated providers in your area offer full fibre, then check what packages they have to offer, depending on what you need.
I use BT because its service here is sufficient for the occasional Teams meetings and Netflix/Amazon with no buffering. We've moved to office twice a week, so I can live with that.

I’ll check. I feel we pay too much tbh and the quality of the service is not as good as it used to be. We almost feel they are doing it on purpose to force us to upgrade.

Why don't you call, ask for options and renew your contract .. . When I called, apparently it costs more for internet only. If you get all the package, it will be way less than £50 depending on the speed

Last time we spoke to them, they were trying to increase our fee for what they say is higher speeds. It’s meant to be unlimited fiber so I don’t understand why they are capping.
