COVID-19: Governor Umahi Inspects Ebonyi Coronavirus Isolation Centre

Following the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus, Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State a few minutes ago led his team to inspect the state of the art Isolation Centre built in order to curtail the virus which is currently ravaging the globe, Igbere TV reports.

Inspecting the tastefully furnished facility at the Unity Square Abakaliki, Umahi charged the state's health officials to expedite action towards completing the remaining portions of works in the facility.

Recall that when the virus was first reported in Lagos, Umahi quickly mobilised for the establishment of the Centre to quell the scourge.

The Ebonyi State Coronavirus Centre comprises several beds, Ventilators, Disinfectants, Sprayers, and hosts of other Medical equipment.

While addressing medical personnel at the Centre, Governor Umahi reiterated his administration's commitments in ensuring that the scourge is not found in Ebonyi State, let alone containing its spread.

Igbere TV gathered that the NCDC officials will be in Ebonyi today to set up the Virology Centre that was built by Governor Umahi and handed over to Federal Government for the fight against Lassa Fever. That centre will be kitted today and ready to become the 6th centre in Nigeria where Corona Virus test is run.

2023 : "I Have Not Made Public, Any Intention To Contest For Any Position" - Gov. Umahi

Govenor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Saturday, said he has not made public any intention to contest for any political position in 2023 general elections.

Umahi stated that his attention has been drawn to an ill-conceived political poster of him contesting for the President of Nigeria, flanked by Governor Nasir El- Rufai for Vice President of Nigeria in 2023. He described it as the handiwork of
mischievous elements who are determined to put him against his admirers.

Umahi made this known in a statement sent to Igbere TV by his Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaze.

According to the statement, such poster bears the imprint of detractors and political desperados who thrive on gossips, rumours and have resulted in producing a smokescreen where they attempt to drag the name of the Governor to the mud via the poster.

The statement reads in full,

"My attention has been drawn to an ill-conceived political poster with an image of the Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellency, Chief David Nweze Umahi FNSE, FNATE contesting for the President of Nigeria and flanked by Governor Nasir El- Rufai for Vice President of Nigeria in 2023, currently circulating on social media."

"Such bears the imprint of detractors and political desperados who thrive on gossips, rumours and have resulted in producing a smokescreen where they attempt to drag the name of the Governor to the mud via the poster."

"One could not help but come to a sane conclusion that enemies of the state probably quoting the harmless expression of an Igbo born industrialist, Chief Cletus Ibeto who said "when it is time, we will send Umahi", decided to stair the hornet's nest and hit up the polity with such embarrassing poster."

"In as much as Governor David Umahi has towering credentials that in any contest makes him visible, he has not made public, any intention to contest for any position in 2023, let alone choosing a successor as he is a governor who is presently committed to delivering of dividends of democracy to his Ebonyi people as he believes that politicking ends immediately after election."

"We, therefore, call on all lovers of good governance, Governor Umahi's ambassadors and the general public to ignore such posters as it is nothing, but the handiwork of mischievous elements who are determined to put the Governor against his admirers."

Gov. Ikpeazu Finally Reacts To Being Trapped In USA Over Coronavirus

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has finally reacted to report that he is currently trapped in the United States Of America following the outbreak of the deadly Coronavirus.

A statement sent to Igbere TV on Friday by his Commissioner for Information, John Okiyi debunked the rumour and described those behind the report as mischief makers.

He said Ikpeazu attended an event in USA involving a close family member and left the country on the 12th of March, 2020, to join the Chairman of Abia State Scholarship Board, Ambassador Empire Kanu, to anchor a meeting between the state and management teams of some key educational institutions in Australia with regard to the State’s Foreign Scholarship Scheme.

He, however, noted that Ikpeazu was originally scheduled to return to Nigeria today, Friday, 20th of March, 2020, to attend Vanguard Personality Awards in Lagos where he was nominated to receive an Award as “Governor of the Year 2019”.

According to him, the program has been postponed by the organizers due to the recent ban on gathering of more than 50 persons by the Lagos State Government but Governor Ikpeazu will still arrive today and subsequently move to Abia State to personally take charge of our efforts to protect our people from COVID-19 pandemic.

The statement reads in full,

Gov. Ikpeazu Takes Over Leadership of Abia COVID-19 Response Structure

The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has taken over the leadership structure of the State Coronavirus response structure in order to curtail the deadly disease.

Ikpeazu directed schools to commence end of term examinations from Monday, March 23, 2020 and close on April 3, 2020.

A statement made available to Igbere TV by the Commissioner for information, John Okiyi, stated that as soon as COVID-19 became a global heath challenge, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu directed the State Ministry of Health to mobilize and prepare a plan to protect Abians from it.

The statement added that when the first case was recorded in Nigeria, Governor Ikpeazu went a step further to set up an inter-ministerial committee to manage the preparation and response to the disease with the state Commssioner for Health, Dr Joe Osuji, leading other Commissioners including those of Information, Homeland Security and Science & Technology.

The committee has since set out to work and started by identifying available intervention resources within the state including the following:

1. Two isolation centers in Umuahia: Federal Medical Center (FMC) and Amachara Specialist Hospital, with the former having good experience in management of patients with infectious diseases such as those infected with Lassa Fever. The facilities are purpose-equipped for isolation of patients with such infectious diseases including those who may present with Coronavirus.

The Committee has also identified and readied a third Isolation center at Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH), Aba, and we are working to prepare another one in Abia North Senatorial District of the State.

2. Over 10,000 face masks and 1,000 digital thermometers with the state ministry of health for distribution to health institutions and others were in place and are currently being distributed.

3. Adequate media resources to launch aggressive sensitization campaign in the state through partnership with private and government owned media houses in the state and beyond were identified. We have since launched the sensitization campaign and released phone lines to contact both local and national responders.

Currently, the committee has advised all electronic broadcast institutions in the state to emphasize Igbo versions of their sensitization materials in order to reach more Abians in rural areas. In the same vein, all LGA Transition Council Chairmen in the state have been directed to enlist the services of town criers to support the sensitization effort.

4. Full activation of Abia State Tele-Health facility to respond to enquiries as well as coordinate with all the primary, secondary and tertiary health care facilities in the state is in place.
A very capable and well trained Abia Tele-health team is currently training staff of all 722 Primary Heathcare Centers (PHCs) and Officers in Charge (OiCs) across all 17 LGAs on how to remotely (on the phone) prevent, identify, manage, control and report and follow-up any suspected Coronavirus cases. And the protocol is to step-down same to all staff members of their PHCs. The training is scheduled to be completed in the shortest possible time for deployment to assist those already on the facility.

5. Sanitizers have been distributed to health workers in the state and automatic sanitizers are presently being mounted in government health institutions and offices.

"The committee has reviewed proposals to close both public and private schools in the state, measures to stop any gathering of more than 50 persons, and protection of our markets without disrupting normal activities and/or creating panic."

"Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who will henceforth take over the leadership of the COVID-19 response structure in the state, has directed that all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state make efforts to commence end of term examinations from Monday, March 23, 2020 and close on April 3, 2020. In the interim, all schools have been directed, through the state Commssioner for Education, Dr KCK Nwangwa, to provide materials for hand washing, preferably running water, before students enter and leave the school as well as during school hours."

"As events unfold, the Government will review the decision to keep the schools open and take necessary measures that will be in the overriding interest of Abians."

"The state ministry of health has also been directed to compulsorily position hand sanitizers, digital thermometers and hand washing facilities in all government offices as well as work with churches, market unions, hotel owners, banks and such other institutions to ensure that they also provide the materials as well as ensure good sanitary conditions."

" These materials should be positioned at the entry point to the facilities with designated persons, who must wear appropriate protective gears, including face masks, manning them."

"The government will immediately shut down, without further notice, private and public premises where adequate measures, including the above stated, are not in place to protect the people, residents and visitors to Abia State."

"We are currently reviewing suggestions on banning public gathering of more than 50 persons and will communicate the decision reached in due course. Similarly, we are considering measures to further protect our markets, malls and other places of commerce and will communicate decision in due course."

"Finally, we currently do not have any case of Coronavirus infection in Abia State and we are hopeful that God will continue to protect us but we are also proactively working to help ourselves. We wish to call on the federal government to consider providing COVID-19 confirmation testing facilities in all the thirty six states of the federation and FCT, or, at the least, consider providing one per geopolitical zone for easier access. "

Coronavirus : Gov. Umahi & Other Governors Pledge To Work With Federal Ministry Of Health To Set Up Isolation Centres


The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, yesterday, attended Nigeria Governors Forum meeting at NGF Secretariate, Abuja.

The Governors forum welcomed Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinma who attended the forum meeting for the first time.

The forum pledged to work with the Federal Ministry of Health to set up a functional test and Isolation centres in all the States in the country.

After an extensive discussion on the impact of Convid-19 pandemic and fallen oil prices on the Nigerian Economy and revenue of the state government, the forum constituted a subcommittee consisting of the Governors of Kaduna, Ebonyi, Kebbi, Ogun, Nassarawa, Edo and Jigawa states to comprehensively review the trend and advise the government on the set of action required to address challenges in our economy.

The forum also sympathized with the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu,
on the unfortunate incident that led to the loss of about 20 persons in the State .

The forum meeting was presided by its Chairman, Governor Fayemi Kayode of Ekiti State.

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Umahi has called for homefront investments, seeing it as one of the greatest contributions Igbos will ever make in the development of their region.

Speaking when Ogbako Ndigbo Digital Forum, Ikeja Lagos paid a courtesy call to the governor in his office at the Centenary City Abakaliki, Governor Umahi lamented the Igbos properties worth billions of naira destroyed as result of insurgency especially in the northern region of the country, regretting the fate that befell its owners.

He said if the Igbos with all their matchless intellectual strength and entrepreneurial skills had invested in their land, there wouldn't have been any need to foray in a foreign land in search of economic opportunities, but because majority of the Igbos invest outside their home and prefer foreign land, people move to these places for economic purposes.

The governor stressed the importance of homefront investments saying the government has put in measures to accelerate business growth and development in the region.

Hear him: "We are thinking railway, the railway project will also connect some of the eastern states and you know what it means to the growth development of these places.

"In the area of security, we have the best security network in Ebonyi State.
"The Neighbourhood Watch is complementing the roles of other security agencies.

"We are building entrance gates in all the entering points to the state. At our boundary between Enugu State, we are building a gate and tower with CCTV camera system, same in all the entering points to the state.

"As chairman of the Southeast Governors' Forum, we will make sure the same security approaches and measures are in place in other states of the Southeast region.

"How many times will something happen to us before we learn?
"Our properties have been destroyed, we develop other regions for others, but our own is not developed. This is not wise. "Let's think home".

While assuring them their requests for Information Communication Technology, ICT hub will yeild the expected result in Ebonyi State, Umahi urged the delegation to hasten their relocation saying:
"We have industrial clusters. Just recently I was told the over five hectares of land behind the tower at PRESCO junction is owned by the state government.

"We will give you as soon as you conclude your request plan.
"In our Shopping Mall which is a microcosm of the macrocosm of the Dubai Mall, the ground floor has been taken by Chinese companies.
"Let's move from selling to manufacturing. We have the capacity. It will do us good if we move from selling to manufacturing" he further added.

Earlier, Prince Tony Nwakaeze the chairman of the delegation said he was awestruck by the rapid transformation of the state by Governor Umahi.
He commended the engineering wizardry of the Umahi led state government calling on other governors to emulate his style of leadership.

While presenting their requests, Prince Nwakaeze said they are determined to come back and invest in the state specifically for ICT development as technologists.

He told the governor the desire of Igbo computer technologists in Ikeja Lagos state is to replicate what they have done in Lagos in the Eastern region, specifically in Ebonyi.

"We are here to seek your Excellency's approval for establishment of ICT hub in the state.

"We want you to allocate a space for this project. It will help us in developing our region for economic growth.
"We want a space at the new International Market, we also want to take over the entire newly constructed SallCity Mall.

" When we entered Ebonyi, we were shock that we started wondering if His Excellency does money ritual or there is another money manufacturing industry built in Ebonyi that other governors are not aware of.

"I know that Ebonyi is the last born in South East but it has become the best city in South East, Nigeria and becoming a major industrial hub.

We are very willing to invest in Ebonyi to bring our many years wealth of experience in the development of Ebonyi state.

BREAKING!!! Igbere TV Boss, Anyalekwa Abducted In Abuja

The Executive Director of Igbere TV, Emeh James Anyalekwa has been abducted in Abuja, the Nation's capital.

As at the time of writing this report, his location is unknown, his numbers are switched off and all messages sent to his social media accounts are yet to be replied. He was last seen in Kubwa, Abuja, around 7pm.

Recall that recently, Justice Okon Abang ordered for his arrest over a report republished via Igbere TV.

The order followed a publication by Nigerian Concord, claiming the court had concluded plans to jail at all cost, a former Benue governor Gabriel Suswam, who is standing trial over alleged N3.1 billion fraud.

The newspaper had alleged on February 1 that Justice Abang, who is presently presiding over the trial of Suswam, had prior contact with the prosecution team and some All Progressives Congress (APC) officials in respect to the case.

Igbere TV had republished the story on its website the following day February 2, while also giving full credits to the online platform (Nigerian Concord) on whose website the story first appeared.

Kalu's Ordeal Politically Motivated - North American Intelligence Agency, EU Commissioner

A North American Intelligence Agency has frowned at the incarceration of the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing his ordeal as "Politically motivated."

A revered source in the agency who craved anonymity because he is not authorised to speak on the matter said Kalu remains a respected figure globally, especially within the political and business circles, and has been in the fore front of the fight against corruption in sub-Saharan Africa.

According to the source : "We have received many highly classified intelligence from Kalu, exposing corruption in several African countries in the past, which makes the charges against him questionable."

"Since the beginning of Kalu's ordeal, we have embarked on thorough investigation to ascertain the level of his culpability, but our findings so far show that his imprisonment is politically motivated".

"Kalu remains a prominent figure and we have gathered that there are plans to annihilate certain parts of the country from the country's presidency and this is unacceptable", he said.

"The agency has however opened correspondence with Nigerian authorities on the matter, and we're hoping the right thing will be done" our source concluded.

Recall that the Former Governor of Abia State, and Senate Chief Whip was recently found guilty of N7.56bn fraud by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment by the presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Idris.

However, many pundits and political analysts have described his imprisonment as a plot by powerful political interests to frustrate him and Ndigbo ahead of 2023 presidential race.

Kalu is one of the strongest voices in the South East who has been campaigning against the continued marginalisation of Nigeria's South East in the political equations of the country.

In the same vein, a European Union commissioner (Name withheld) has commended Kalu for the great feat he achieved for his home state of Abia and Africa generally.

The EU Commissioner, who is a personal friend of Kalu, said the former governor is loved because he is not just a politician but a renowned philanthropist whose work is enviable across all regions of the country.

He said : “I have known Kalu for many years, and his good works and passion for the people speak volume. He is a giver and a man with compassion."

BREAKING!!! Heavy Protests Set To Rock National Assembly Over Social Media Bill

Following a bill seeking to regulate social media which has passed second reading at the Senate, Nigerians will tomorrow stage heavy protest, 9news Nigeria has learnt.

In a statement made available to 9News Nigeria by the convener of the protest, 'Concerned Citizens Of Nigeria' said the protest will happen on 27th November and Thursday 28th November.

The group noted that the march is meant to oppose the proposed Hate Speech bill and the anti social media Bill.

Yuletide: Ugwuanyi Tasks Council Chairmen , Security Agencies On Alertness

As the Christmas season approaches, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has called on the chairmen of the seventeen (17) local government areas, the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies in the state to be on the alert and intensify efforts to ensure security of lives and property of the people during the festivity.

Despite perfecting bail condition, lawyers #RevolutionNow convener and Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, were unable to secure his release from the Department of State Services on Wednesday.

Ebonyi State Government Assures Residents of Regular Water Supply(Photos)

Ebonyi State Government has revealed that very soon residents of Abakaliki metropolis and other local government areas of the State will enjoy stable, clean and safe water supply.

This was made known by Hon. Francis Nwaze, Special Assistant on Media to Umahi.

He gave the assurance when he visited the Oferekpe Water Scheme in Ikwo Local Government of the State. The scheme is said to be the largest in the southern part of the country and was recently revived by the State Government under Engr David Umahi, FNSE, FNATE.

He said the Ebonyi State Government under Governor David Umahi has embarked on massive construction of water plants in the state to provide access to clean drinking water. When he (Mr. Nwaze) contacted the Special Assistant to the Governor on Water Resources, Hon Engr. Franklin Chikaodi, further details on the progress of work done in the water schemes Mr. Nwaze said:


“First, there is Ezillo Water Scheme which is one of the five (5) major water schemes designed to treat, supply and reticulate good and portable water to the good people of Ebonyi state. The scheme was designed to treat and supply 50,000 cubic meters of water per stream day, it’s meant to supply water to abakaliki and it’s environs. Currently it’s in full completion and two contractor, Ovamann Pumps Limited in charge of all mechanical repairs and maintenance and Elizar construction company Ltd in charge of civil repair works and cleaning are there. The scheme will start working soonest as the governor has ordered importation of new pumps and change of Dilapidated valves on the riser main (pipeline) taking water to Abakaliki”.

“The Ivo Water Scheme was designed to treat and supply 15,000 cubic meters of water per stream day if in full operation and it’s meant to reticulate water around Ishiagu and it’s environs.

“Currently the scheme is under construction by a reputable construction company and is about 80 percent completed.

“Governor Umahi is determined to provide water in all the Local Government Areas of the State.

“There is Ukawu Water Scheme, the scheme was designed to treat and supply 100,000 cubic meters of water per stream day if in full operation and it is meant to reticulate water around Ukawu, and entire Onicha L.G.A and beyond.

“It is almost ready and awaiting inauguration latest January.

“We are eternally grateful to Governor Umahi for these timely interventions in a critical areas like water which is essential for existence”, he said, adding “Chief Sunday Inyima, the Honourable Commissioner for Water Resources is working tirelessly to deliver on the mandate of portable water to the good people of Ebonyi State as directed by Governor Umahi”.

Recall that Igbere TV had reported that angry traders, on Tuesday, stormed Government House In Umuahia, Abia State over alleged plans by the government to take over popular market, Ahia Gate.

Igbere TV correspondent monitoring the protest said armed policemen are currently controlling the angry traders.

"It's Fake News, I Didn't Order Security Agents To Shoot Anyone Who Blocks My Convoy" - Umahi

The Ebonyi State Government under the leadership of Governor Dave Nweze Umahi, has stated that it is now privy of an online publication report titled: ‘Umahi to Ebonyians: Block my convoy again, get killed’, which was filed and credited to Oswald Agwu of the Eagle Online, and circulating on the social media.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Tuesday, Mr. Francis Nwaze, the Special Assistant to the Governor, on New Media and Project Documentation, said that the title of the publication was designed to portray Governor Umahi in a bad light, over an incident where his life was in obvious danger.

The statement reads in full:

His Excellency, was approaching the State capital, Abakaliki, when he encountered a barrier set up by unknown persons, at Onicha Local Government. According to unconfirmed reports, the barrier may have been set up to curb traffic flow towards the venue of a wake keep ceremony.


His Excellency had observed the very slow response of the community, in dismantling the barricade for the Governor’s further movement. Suffice it to say that, the Governor was in the very know that such was a usual practice in Igboland.

In the long wait, miscreants approached one of the Governor’s security vehicles, and made away with a firearm to the amazement of Security Detail.

In displeasure, the Governor who was irked by the disrespect and dishonour extended to the Office of the Ebonyi State Governor, condenmed such act of brigandage and criminality, calling for the prosecution of the culprits, and with no references to the good people of Ebonyi State.

It is unfortunate that the online publication chose the title: ‘Umahi to Ebonyians: Block my convoy again, get killed’, in flagrant disregard to the essential professional codes of Journalism practice.

His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE, will never address Ebonyi people in such a language, more so, in a circumstance of misconduct creditable to a few disgruntled criminals within a community.

The Ebonyi State Government urges the Editorial Board of the online publication, to uphold the highest standards in the filing of reports prior to circulation in the social media.

The Ebonyi State Government and the Office of the Governor, has been inundated with calls for the contextual clarification of the online report, and ceases this opportunity to assure the good people of Ebonyi State, that the Governor was simply worried that ordinary law abiding citizens may be in more danger, if an elected Governor was subjected to the inhuman treatment from some criminal youths.

His Excellency, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, further reiterates his call to Security Agencies, to apprehend all those who were involved in the forceful withdrawal of firearms belonging to security details attached to the Governor, for onward prosecution.

Furthermore, the Ebonyi State Government wishes to emphasise that in line with extant regulations, the Executive Governor is protected by the Nigerian State, and attacks or threat to the safety and security of life of the Governor, will be resisted by members of Security Agencies deployed to ensure his safety.

Note must be made that the entire Security Detail of an elected Governor, is controlled by the Aide de Camp, who may discretionally apply brute force or otherwise, at the face of threat to life of the Governor. This is applicable to all elected Governors of States in Nigeria.
