Nigerians have stormed Facebook wall of UNILAG Lecturer, Dr Boniface Igbeneghu who was caught on video sexually harassing ‘admission seeker, Igbere TV reports.


The lecturer was exposed in a video by BBC Africa where an undercover journalist, Kiki Mordi, disguised as a 17-year-old admission seeker.


Igbere TV gathered that the lecturer has been suspended by the University and Foursquare Gospel Church.



Meanwhile, Nigerians have stormed his Facebook wall.


Dr. Boniface Igbeneghu had posted on his wall:


“Fond memories of the Induction Ceremony of my darling wife as a Pastor of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria by the General Overseer, Reverend Felix Meduoye at the Foursquare Camp, Ajebo, Lagos- Ibadan Expressway on April 20, 2019. Precisely two months ago! To God be the glory!!”

Nigerians have lambasted him and described him as a Disgrace.

Nathan said :” I heard this news this morning on radio. Meeen it’s so embarrasing. Mr man you’re a disgrace to men”

Bennie Pat : “This is to tell Nigerians the type of pastors we have in this country. Anybody defending this man deserves to have his daughter raped by a goat”.

“Shun Inferiority Complex” – Gov. Umahi Tells Ebonyians

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has charged Ebonyians to move on with the New Ebonyi State which is far away from what it used to be.

Igbere TV reports that the governor made this known while addressing the mammoth crowd that gathered at the event of a Thanksgiving service and Dedication of a twin, David and Gloria Egwuche.


He made it clear that Ebonyians are far better than several states across the state but the challenge is the act of feeling inferior.

Of a truth, Ebonyi of the old was a caricature of the New Ebonyi. Ebonyi before now was a dumping ground from other states . It was a place where the odd, the dirty and the ugly are found before the coming of the Divine Mandate Government which has in just few years, revived, redirected, reconstructed and totally transformed the state.



So far, Ebonyi State has made national and international headlines as the quickest transforming state across the country. The governor himself, Engr. David Nweze Umahi has severally been bestowed with the award of the best performing governor among the 36 states governors across the country for his quick touch and fast transformation of Ebonyi Sate.

The statement reads:

“When we came on board, we saw the magnitude of challenges facing us and we have not defeated all of them but we have certainly gone very far from where we used to be. For us to be where we are today, it is neither by power nor by might but by the spirit says the Lord.

“One of the things we have fought and God defeated is people looking down on us, looking down on our state, looking down on our people.

“Somebody came into Ebonyi State and he asked; why is it that everybody is happy and I said to him, you will still find few unhappy people but they are very small and we are working hard to make them happy.

Gov. Umahi Arrives From South Africa, Inspects Project Sites Immediately(Photos)

Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Friday, arrived from South Africa where he accompanied President Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the issues being faced by Nigerians,Igbere TV reports.

Igbere TV gathered that immediately the governor arrived in Ebonyi State around 11pm, he inspected some project construction sites immediately.

Speaking with Igbere TV, the Special Assistant on New Media to the Governor, Mr. Francis Nwaze said while some Ebonyians are sleeping, Gov. Umahi arrived from South Africa and inspected Project sites immediately.

According to him, "I have come to discover the difference between governance and leadership. What Ebonyians have in Gov. Umahi is leadership and not governance. Truth is that governance is the nomenclature but leadership is the act as displayed today by the never tired governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi."

"Check your time now, it's already few minutes past the hour of 11pm and our governor is supervising projects while you maybe resting at the comfort of your homes or already sleeping. What baffles me is that the governor had spent over 12 hours both on air and land, journeying from far away country to Nigeria."

"The Governor played a major role as a high delegate that travelled to South Africa with Mr. President, Muhammadu Buhari to resolve the challenges being faced by Nigerians in South Africa."

"Governor Umahi had spent about 7 hours on air while flying down to Abuja today, on landing, he took to Owerri because of the maintenance that is ongoing at the Enugu International Airport of which had resulted in his flagging off of palliative measure for the safety of Ebonyians. JUST IN!!! Senator Akpabio Orders Suspension Of Employment In NDDC

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio has directed that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), suspends forthwith any employment exercise into the Commission, Igbere TV reports.


In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Friday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Honourable Minister, Anietie Ekong, the Minister also directed the suspension of handing over of appointment letters, documentation and all other processes connected to employment into the Commission.

He noted that tSenator Akpabio gave this directive in a letter issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Mrs Didi Walson-Jack to the Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr Akwagaga Enyia.

According to the Ministerial directive, the Commission’s pay roll should not accommodate any new employees and should revert to the status quo as at August 31, 2019, while he should be furnished within three days with a detailed report of any employment exercise being undertaken by the Commission.

The letter said the suspension exercise is to subsist until a due process evaluation of the purported exercise is carried out by the Ministry in consultation with the two NDDC Committees of the National Assembly and sought prompt action of the Acting Managing Director on the matter.

The Convener of #Bringbackourgirls, Aisha Yusuf, has told the Department of State Security Services, DSS, and President Muhammadu Buhari that "we are all Biafrans", Igbere TV reports.


Yusuf was reacting over the arrest of a Nigerian Journalist, Mr. Chido Onumah by the department.

Onumah, a Nigerian journalist and rights activist who was arrested and detained by the Department of State Services on Sunday evening, revealed that he was arrested for wearing a T-shirt with the inscription: ‘We Are All Biafrans'.

Igbere TV had reported that Onumah, who was arrested by DSS operatives at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja, was detained for hours.

Speaking over the arrest, Yusuf said what we have is Political DSS.

She noted that the Vice president of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was present during the time the journalist launched a book entitled "We Are All Biafrans".

She revealed that she is a Biafran too and the DSS can never shut her down to stop talking about President Muhammadu Buhari’s that has failed in all ramifications.

"DSS picked Chudo Onumah at the airport apparently because he was wearing a t-shirt that says "We Are All Biafrans".

"Are we not all Biafrans? Are we not refuges right now in our country? So, DSS that is supposed to be an intelligent gathering organization, protecting Nigeria, picks up a man, wearing a t-shirt that says we are all Biafrans, a man who wrote a book with the same title that the vice president was at the book launch. For what? Is it this same DSS that we rely on to gather information? Is it this the same DSS that we rely on to arrest Boko Haram leader, Shekau?".


She further lambasted the DSS and claimed that with the way they are going, they won't be able to curb the insecurity in the country.

She add that everyone is a Biafran including her.

" In case you don't know, my name is Aisha Yusuf, I am a Biafran, we are all Biafrans. We are not living in our country, we are merely surviving and we deserve better"

A 344-year-old tortoise popularly known as Alagba, in the palace of the Soun of Ogbomoso, is dead.

The scared tortoise which was the oldest in Africa, was sick for a few days before her demise on Thursday.

The tortoise became a popular breed upon ascension of the throne of the current Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi with the monarch providing good shelter and health support for the tortoise during its sojourn on earth.

Confirming the incident to the Nigerian Tribune, the Private Secretary to Oba Oyewumi, Toyin Ajamu, stressed that the tortoise, which attracted people from all walks of life from Nigeria and abroad, will be greatly missed not only by the palace household but everyone who came in contact with Alagba during her lifetime.

According to Ajamu: “Alagba had lived in the palace for centuries. The tortoise played host to many monarchs in Ogbomoso in the past. Alagba became popular because Oba Oladunni Oyewumi, Soun of ogbomosoland, used his personal resources to cater for her well being.

“The tortoise had two staff members of the palace, dedicated to her. They provide food, health support and other logistics, so as to make sure she gets the best treatment. Often times, Kabiyesi shared great moments with Alagba. On a daily basis, Alagba, had tourists visiting her from different part of the world. The palace household, Ogbomoso community and stakeholders in the tourism sector are mourning Alagba’s passing. “

The palace secretary explained that plans were underway to preserve Alagba’s body for historical records.

Gov. Umahi Gives Quality Specifications On Concrete Projects in Ebonyi

-Direct the use of Indestructible hammer test as a must

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. David Nweze Umahi, FNSE, FNATE has directed all contractors, site engineers and all those who are involved in the constructions in Ebonyi to ensure that they follow the quality specifications as contained herein or risk being disengaged.

According to Sp Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mr. Francis Nwaze, Governor Umahi is a seasoned Engineer who has put more than thirty years in the practice of construction across the Country. He is a Fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (FNSE); Member, Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE); Member, Council of Registered Engineers (COREN) and Fellow of Nigeria Association of Technologists in Engineering (FNATE).

His attitude of always inspecting all ongoing projects in the state as an experienced Engineer is one of the reasons Ebonyi is being described as having the best in quality of projects.

His statement reads:

"I direct that all drainage casting henceforth must be done with only 1/2”(.05mm) chippings and grade 25- 1:2:4 mix ratio and vibrated with porker machine.

"Any drain work without this must be stopped.

"Reinforcement is y10mm rod spaced at 150mm bottom and sides. Drain cover is same grade 25, y12mm rod reinforced up and down and distribution with same y12 rod at 150mm spacing.

"Thickness of slab is 250mm and drain floor and wall is 150mm thickness and all works MUST be vibrated with porker rod."

On the part of the specification for road construction, he said:

"I am highly worried about the quality of our road job. We are doing grade 40 concrete but many do not observe this and same grade with all building jobs with big volume.

"I henceforth direct that all concrete works on road must be of grade 40 meaning in every one bag of type 3xxx cement, we have river sharp sand to be 3head pans(water level of the pan) , 3head pans( water level of pan) of 1/2”(.05mm) of well graded chippings from approved tested quarry and 3head pan of 3/4”(.075mm) of well graded chippings from approved quarry.

"Water cement ratio remains such as to have zero slump. Three vibrators MUST be deployed at the same time with porker rod of 3” whether of diesel machine or electric.

"Use of paver is optional here provided the rule here is kept. Any job done without this rule will be demolished and all those involved will be prosecuted.

"Curing of concrete to be a minimum of two weeks. Road contractor to stop shipping the road but ensure it is well levelled and specially grooved as is seen in our airports.

"All drain sides to be properly back filled . Expansion joints vertical and vertical should be well defined and cut fully to sub base and filled with bitumen .

"The three big buildings at hospital college , mall, stadium , airport works, flyovers, retaining walls, culverts, bridges, pilling works and any other major concrete works must follow same.

"Other works like buildings must observe same with grade 25concrete or mix I:2:4 meaning for one bag type 3xxx cement, river sharp sand is 4head pans (water level), 1/2” chippings is 4head pans and 3/4” chippings.

"Vibration of all foundation and dpc here to be with two nos of 3” poker rod while other elements like columns, beams and slab shall be with deploying two porkers at the same time and rods shall be 2” rods.

"MOPME must henceforth post one person to every batching plant or mixer to observe this and such people must be rotated from time to time.

"Endeavour to carry out more tests cube crushing and none destructive tests. Must certify any quarry that will supply and chippings to all our concrete.

"These are the irreducible minimum acceptable to our projects".

Igbere TV recalls that the above was disclosed in Abakaliki yesterday by Governor Umahi when he was addressing mammoth crowd that gathered in celebration of Nigeria Independence @59 and Ebonyi @23. “By the grace of Mr. President, I am travelling with him to South Africa to address the problems of our people in South Africa”,he said.


The Governor also maintained his stand that Ebonyians, South east and Nigerians should pray for our leaders as Christians, Muslims etc according to the word of God.

“I keep saying that castigating our leaders openly will not add any value to what we seek rather we should be more focused on how to improve the virtuous of our people, how to improve on our infrastructure and a better living for our people and these should be our concern as haters are never lovers and lovers are never haters.



“We must as Nigerians do everything to enhance our cultural values and better our lots outside the country. The way we are treated outside the country is not very encouraging so we must have to do empirical evaluation of ourselves”, he added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign affairs has stated that the visit will determine if there will be need for further evacuation of Nigerian from South Africa. The statement reads, “The binational commission is an annual summit between Nigeria and South Africa. They will discuss issues that border on trade, investment and other things that may arise.

“If there are new issues around the xenophobia attacks, they may be discussed and I think the outcome of the meeting will determine if there will be another batch of evacuees that will return to Nigeria. If at the end of the day, everybody agrees with the discussion, there may not be any need returning anybody.”

Ebonyi To Commence Whistle Blowing Against Cultists

The governor of Ebonyi State, Engr. (Dr.) David Nweze Umahi, on Tuesday, during the celebration of Nigeria Independence and Ebonyi at 23 at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium disclosed his intention to introduce “whistle blowing” against cultists in the state as part of his continuous fight to clampdown down the practice of the act in Ebonyi.

Igbere TV reports that Governor Umahi stated that though the state government through his empowerment programs have done so much in ensuring that the state is ridden off any form of cultism practice but he is not yet satisfied and as such, will be introducing Whistle Blowing against any form of cultism practice or activities in the state.

Gov. Umahi In his words:

“We must continue to fight against cultism but let me say that the war against cultism has not started in Ebonyi State.

“To the general public, it appears that we have won the war but to me it appears that there is going to be very intensive war against cultism as there will be whistle blowers in this.

” When you have identification of anybody doing cultism and you get us through whistle blowing, you will have a reward and through this means, we will completely eliminate cultism in our society”,he said.

Recall that the governor had earlier declared zero tolerance against cultism in the state where he urged those in practice of cultism to desist and denounce same of which several persons numbering in hundreds voluntarily confessed and denounced the practice in Christ Embassy Church, got baptised and are now carrying on with their normal lives as Christains.

Speaking with Igbere TV correspondent, Mr. Francis Nwaze, Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media said “the governor has always maintained that no one who shed another man’s blood can go free without confessing and denouncing from such act as no successful man thrives through cultism.”

Governor David Nweze Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Tuesday, revealed how he was embarrassed and humiliated in New York City during the just concluded 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Igbere TV reports.


reports had reported that Umahi accompanied President Mohammadu Buhari to the UNGA meeting.


Speaking on Tuesday at Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, Umahi noted that he was specially singled out, humiliated and searched, just because he is a Nigerian.


Umahi made this known while addressing a mammoth crowd of Ebonyians who attended the 59th anniversary of Nigeria and Ebonyi state at 23, that took place at the Pa Ngele Oruta township stadium, Abakaliki capital of Ebonyi state.

The governor further noted that, he will be travelling with President Mohammad Buhari again to South Africa to find solution to the lingering crisis between Nigerians living South Africa and the citizens of the host country.

According to him “Let me assure Ebonyi people and the entire southeast that the closure of the Akanu-Ibiam International Airport at Enugu was for the safety of our people.


“As the chairman of south East governors forum, I had a meeting with Mr president and we have agreed on modalities for quick execution and of cause comprehensive over haul of that airport.

“We are seeking for a special funding with Mr president and as i travel with him, i will also reveal to him how much we have gone in the release of the funds for the quick completion of that project.

“We have provided two coaster buses, 10 pick up vans and a brand new liaison zone office in Owerri, this will assist our people who are travelling to the airport there.


The governor, however, warned against speaking ill of President Buhari and governors of various states in the country, noting that castigating the President will not add any value to the progress of the country.

“Castigating leaders openly will not add any value to what we seek rather our eyes should be on the ball.

“We must as Nigerians do everything to uphold our cultural value and better ourselves outside the country. The way we are treated outside the shores of this land is not encouraging, we must have to do empirical evaluation of ourselves, we get devalued a lot in other nations.



“I got calls from people in Ghana, saying that a lot of them are about to be sentenced, some people have been imprisoned for 1000 years and some 500 years imprison.

“And so, it is important that as Nigerians, we should reevaluate our statues and our values because the way we are treated even as a governor, you don’t wear governor at the airport.

“When I was in America, they singled some of us out and conducted a thorough search, it is an intimidation. We will not continue to live in such manner that bring humiliation to our nation, it is very important,” he noted

"Nigeria Has More Poor People Than China and India Combined" - Peter Obi


Vice Presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party in 2019 general elections, Peter Obi has revealed that there are more poor people in Nigeria than in India and China.

Igbere TV gathered that the former Governor made this known at The Platform, an annual conference organised by Covenant Christian Centre in Lagos.

Citing the “Stress Index”, Obi said Nigeria is the most stressful country in the world.

“Today, we are the most stressful country. If you read the stress index, they said we are the most stressful,” he said at the programme which held on Tuesday.

The vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last elections said as poverty capital of the world, six people in Nigeria fall into poverty every minute.

“Today, Nigeria is home to the highest number of poor people living in any nation on earth,” he said.

“If you look at the latest report of UNDP, it says Nigeria has moved from 86 million to 98 million persons living in extreme poverty. We are growing at five percent annually. Every minute, six Nigerians fall into poverty.

“In 2012, India had 276 million people living in extreme poverty. Today, they have less than 76. Nigeria has more people living in extreme poverty than China and India combined.”



He added that the country also has the least score globally when in terms of equality among citizens.

Obi said: “Nigeria is now the third most insecure place to live on the surface of the earth. We are now behind Afghanistan and Syria, and with daily killings, banditry and kidnappings, it is being speculated that Nigeria will soon overtake them.

“Our under-employment and unemployment is one of the worst in the world. People will tell you it is about 25 percent, it is actually over 30 percent. And with over 22 million young people in their productive age doing nothing, it is very worrisome.

“If you come to inequality, Nigeria’s inequality today is the worst; 157/157. We are the worst if you look at the oxfam report. In Nigeria, the richest on percent control 85 percent of the wealth. All other countries are working hard to lower this, in Nigeria it is even worsening".

was patiently listening to deliberations at United Nations Convention, Igbere TV reports.

Nsofor, a retired justice from Nigeria’s Court of Appeal, assumed the office of his country’s ambassador to the United States on November 13, 2017. It’s Nsofor’s first ambassadorial posting.

Nsofor was born March 17, 1935, in Oguta, Imo State, Nigeria. He graduated from London’s now-defunct Holborn College of Law in 1962 and added an LL.M from the London School of Economics in 1964.

Igbere TV reports that Kalu noted that the Nigerian Senate under the leadership of President Ahmed Lawan would ensure that youth friendly bills would be formulated in order to boost youth productivity and prosperity.

Kalu stated this on Friday at a public lecture organised in commemoration of Nigeria’s 59th Independence Day Celebration held at the Abuja National Mosque.

The event had in attendance Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto; Engr. Rauf Aregbesola, Minister for Interior; Muhammad Musa Bello, FCT Minister, amongst other dignitries.

Kalu, who was a special guest at the event stressed the need for the country to remain united, despite religious and ethnic differences.

He noted that the youths must contribute their quota to nation building without depending solely on the government.

Kalu said in his speech:

“Most of our youths have taken so many things for granted because they expect so much from the government. During my early days as a youth, I became the Chairman of Cooperative and Commerce Bank in Eastern Nigeria at just 27 years old, and I went ahead to become a Governor in 1999.

“Today, majority of the youths in Nigeria expect the government to do virtually everything for them.

“The youths are expected to be vibrant, creative and innovative in order to make way for themselves.

“I encourage our youths to cooperate with our elders. Our elders also owe it as a duty to guide our youths through the right path.”

On the rule of law, Kalu condemned the rate of lawlessness in the country.

He said: “Society, including our youths, also need to imbibe the character of obeying the law, especially court orders.

“The laws must be obeyed no matter the level of the court until the order is vacated. Disrespect of the rule of law is one of the major causes of the problems in our society today.

“Most people in the society, especially the youths, don’t keep to the law, for example driving against the traffic light. Even the wealthy and educated in our society are also guilty of the same offence.

“Personally, I see no difference between Islam and Christianity, because both of them preach peace, oneness, and togetherness. It takes a good Christian to identify a good Muslim and vice-versa.

“The country is towing towards a downward path due on religious intolerance and misunderstanding. Today’s lecture is focused on promoting national unity.

“Parents must do their job of bringing up their children morally upright. The society belongs to us all, but greed is the cause of most of the problems in Nigeria today. Our nation is not poor but people have refused to live according to the goals of the country.

“We in the National Assembly will continue to make bills that will make our nation more united and ensure that our youth become prosperous and productive.

“The youths need to cooperate and contribute their quota towards nation building. They should eschew banditry, kidnapping, militancy and all other sorts of crimes,” Kalu said.

How I Shared N400m from Dasuki-Metu


Olisa Metuh, former national publicity secretary of the People's Democratic Party, on Friday, September 27, 2019 narrated in a Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Justice Okon Abang, how he distributed the N400million, he collected from the Office of the National Security Adviser ONSA, under Sambo Dasuki as national security adviser in 2014, in what he said was a “special national assignment,” in the lead up to the 2015 general election.

Igbere TV reports that Metu is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC alongside his company, Destra Investment on seven-count charges, bordering on money laundering to the tune of N400million (Four Hundred Million Naira).

Metuh who is the defence team’s 15th witness under cross-examination by the prosecution counsel told the court that there was never an instance where the former President Goodluck Jonathan directly paid any money to him. He said that the payment of N400million (Four Hundred Million Naira) was for the national assignment as directed by the then president.

Upon being shown the statement of his account which had N6.6million (Six Million, Six Hundred Thousand Naira) before an inflow of N400 million into it on November 24, 2014, he narrated to court how he disbursed the money in what he said was a 'national assignment'.

He said there was an outflow of N7.5 million from the amount through a cheque to a company, CNC Connect on December 2, 2014, another payment of N21.7 million to Chief Anenih and N50 million to Kanayo/Olisah Metuh which is a joint account on December 4, 2014. On that same date, he narrated that there was another outflow of N31.5 million to Richard Ehidioha

He also told the court of two separate payments of N200million and N300million to Daniel Ford International also on December 4, 2014.

Other subsequent expenditures he said are payments to CNC Connect in the sum of N70million on December 15, 2014; N25million to Abba Dabo on December 16, 2014 and N5million to Ambassador Kema Chikwe.

He told the court that a final report he submitted to the then president had all the expenditures of the N400 million, captured in receipts and signatures for all payment of monies in cash and through several accounts for the special assignment. He said he had about 19 accounts of which more than five are in Diamond Bank.

Metu also told the court that he made an investment of $2million dollars in cash (Two Million Dollars) in ARM, through an ARM staff, Miss Nneka Ararume.

When asked if the equivalent of the $2million was paid in naira into Dextra’s account which was to the tune N366 million at that time, he said, "We led evidence to show that the $2 million was paid by me to ARM and the prosecution had led evidence to show that Nneka Ararume paid monies to bureau de change which now transferred the monies into my account."

He said he did not have any dealings with the bureau de change, recalling that Miss Ararume told the court that she got his account details from his record with ARM and gave it to the bureau de change.

When asked if the non-payment of $2million dollars into his account was to conceal the origin of the money, Metuh said the non-payment of the sum into his account was the failure of his account officer to execute a lawful and legal directive.

Justice Abang adjourned the matter to September 30, 2019 for continuation of trial.

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State, on Tuesday, sacked his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Emmanuel Uzor, Igbere TV reports.


Umahi in a statement made available to Igbere TV said he took the decision because Mr Uzor misrepresented him and Southeast governors in a statement he issued on the controversial National Livestock Transformation Programme.

The governor described the said statement by Mr Uzor as highly embarrassing and regrettable.

He said the position expressed by the sacked CPS was contrary to his on the issue.

The statement reads: “I just directed the termination of the appointment of my CPS for misrepresenting me and south-east governors on National livestock transformation plan programme of which I had issued a press statement on behalf of NEC after our last NEC meeting.


“My former CPS was never authorised to talk to the press on the matter. His position is different from mine and that of the south-east governors.

“His statement is so embarrassing and regrettable”, Umahi added.

Mr Umahi directed Mr Uzor to hand over to his Principal Secretary, Clement Nweke, immediately.


He wished him well in his future endeavours.

"We’ll Mobilise Nigerian Youths To Plant 25 Million Trees" - Buhari Reveals Why

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that his administration will mobilise Nigerian youths to plant 25 million trees, Igbere TV reports.

President Buhari revealed that the reason is in order to enhance the country’s carbon sink and combat climate change.

Speaking at the Climate Action Summit at the United Nations headquarters in New York, United States, on Monday, Buhari said the government will include youth in the climate decision-making process.

He said, “I want to announce that the Government of Nigeria will develop a more robust sectorial action plan and expand the scope of our Sovereign Green Bonds in line with our intended upward review of Nigeria’s NDC’s towards the inclusion of the water and waste sectors by 2020.

“In the water sector, Nigeria will issue a Green Bond for irrigation and construct multi-purpose dams for power, irrigation and water supply.

“We will strengthen solid and liquid waste management systems to attract more private sector investors.

“We will take concrete steps to harness climate innovative ideas by including youths in decision-making processes as part of our over-all climate governance architecture.

“We will mobilise Nigerian youths towards planting 25 million trees to enhance Nigeria’s carbon sink.

“In the energy sector, Nigeria is presently diversifying its energy sources from dependence on gas-powered system to hydro, solar, wind, biomass and nuclear sources.

“Specifically, Nigeria is progressively working to realise 30 per cent energy efficiency and renewable energy mix by 2030. This is envisaged to lead to 179 million tons of carbon dioxide reduction per annum by 2030.

“It is now imperative that we must step-up our collective climate actions in line with the request of the Secretary-General.

“It is in this regard that I wish to reiterate Nigeria’s commitment to its obligation under the Paris Agreement, the aspirations enshrined in our Nationally Determined Contribution and ensure a resilient future that mainstreams climate risks in our decision making.”

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has commenced the repairs of Potholes on Enugu Urban Roads, Igbere TV reports.

In a statement made available to Igbere TV on Monday, the Permanent Secretary,
Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Emmanuel A. Icheku, said development is in keeping with the position of the state government to commence the exercise once the persistent rains subside.

He noted that the Ministry’s operation team has identified the potholes, taken inventory at the various locations and also made adequate provisions for on-the-spot repair works, simultaneously.
