as suavebabe said, being that this is naija no one will be too keen to employ you for PPA especially if as is likely, you get sent to a school. at the school i'm at, when i reported for duty, they were going on about sagging like it was the cause of all the ills of our nation. you should however have no problems in camp.

only thing is that keeping a low profile is kind of better imho. say you're in gidi camp and you decide to skip drills and go and chill in mammy, everyone will know its you because of your hair. also the platoon inspectors and the soldiers can be a bit bush so will probably be judging you and giving you grief over your stuff, just dirt off your shoulder it and move on.

as for shedraq, keep on being a sheep yeah, and coming on here to tell people they have no identity. eeediot.
SportsRe: Team Nigeria's Poor Olympics Performance: Causes? by Man51ut(m): 1:58pm On Aug 12, 2012
Litmus: Great questions, hat off

I suppose my feelings are that Odumosu and Okagbare are athletes you feel, deep down inside, are nowhere near their limit and as such, matching personal best or improving on it wouldn't be all that difficult. It's a bit like records in the womens' pole-volt. Phelps and Bolt, on the other hand, are so far in advance of other athletes, laymen and scientist alike are debating that they may be operating at the very limits of human capability. Bolt especially didn't need to be operating at his full capability to win medals.

On the second point when it came to the crunch; that is, when faced with athletes that had posted faster times than them, Odumosu and Okagbare did not try as hard as they might have if they had believed in themselves and refused to be phased by records, methods, media and all that malarkey. Americans would say they Bottled it. The colloquial describes cowardice.

There is a lot that can be said for unfettered freedom of self belief. It is possible that Athletes in developed Nations like the US and Britain could be limited in the future by the very scientific approach that now benefits them. Do you know what i mean? It's a bit like a primitive in the jungle being able to run faster and jump higher than scientist believed possible because he, jungle man, has no self doubt because he has not been taught limitations by science, media etc.

A quote from Baraladei Igali:

“When you know the level of your athletes, and the performances don’t match their abilities, that’s frustrating,” Igali says, further infuriating the TV crew by stopping to talk to a Canadian writer.

“I have two female athletes here, Blessing [Oborududu] and Amarachi, they came here and have not competed the way I expected them to. I am not happy. I obviously expected that there were some people who would beat them, but even if they would beat them, they would put up a fight.

“But Blessing lost to someone she shouldn’t have lost to yesterday, and Amarachi is a give-and-take match, she could win this match if she wrestled up to her potential but …”

But neither of them has what Daniel Igali had, and still has. He was inducted into the International Wrestling Hall of Fame here a little over a week ago, and long ago became the catalyst that inspired a generation of Canadian grapplers.

His impact is still being felt here in London, which may be why the Canadian team’s pre-Games news conference was held in a room that featured a giant-sized poster of Igali.

interesting points and i don't really have any argument. blessing and odumosu can probably improve. leaving out odumosu who i've only seen run her 3 races so can't really comment on her ability, i will say that blessing was in great form coming to the olympics, but while it seems she was running at the peak of her ability (she improved her PB at least twice over the past few months), the likes of fraser-pryce, jeter, felix et al showed that they had a few gears to move up when it counted. if you look at blessing's time in the final 11.00 it's only 0.08 off the fastest time she's ever run. basically, she was probably running at close to her best. you seem like you understand athletics a bit, so you know that it all boils down to things like quality of start etc.

if she was running 10.7s regularly, then 11 secs in a final would be disappointing, but it was only disappointing because we hoped for a medal, not because of her performance.

the bit about the jungle man is a bit off though. the jungle man has no limits, but he may also have no competitive instinct. the argument is not too far off the popular one here that 'why cant we carry our ijaw fishermen to the olympics to swim' yes they can swim, and yes they are strong swimmers, but they're swimming to stay alive, they're swimming functionally, not competitively. competitive sports requires way more than just being able to do something functionally. it would be like me saying, i run for my bus every morning, or i can drive from lekki to festac in 30 minutes so let me go and run in the olympics, or get a drive in an F1 team.

the ijaw fisherman can swim, can he swim a 100m in 50 seconds, without breaking the rules in the pool? i wouldn't even waste time with the pool, there's medals for open water, but even those require training and support.

And what makes you think you'll have time at home when you're your own business owner. Yeah you can be your own boss, but for the first few years at least, expect to not have as much time as you think you will. if you think you can just chill as you please, chances are your business will go into the toilet. Even you yourself won't be able to leave your investment just like that.

Basically, the time factor is a non-issue.

1. the mothers that force their young daughters out on the streets to hawk stuff when they are aware of the dangers to their daughters, what is that?
2. the mothers in the north that smile and allow their daughters to be married off to men 5x older, what is that?
3. how many young girls have been brought in from the village and molested by people, under the nose of 'aunty' and/or 'uncle'

or is it because they didn't do it over the internet? useless retarded hypocrites.

how much is a lot? so he's batch B then? well he can abscond, worst comes to worst he'll have to re-register/do camp again. if he's lucky, he might just avoid that part and serve the remaining time, at a time when he's ready.

but come, if he says they are asking a lot, that means they can be bought, which means he should attempt to negotiate now? the guy should just go and drop something small first "for the weekend"; "for sallah" to show he is serious. then he can discuss giving them his salary (pretty sure docs will be paid). he can then arrange to give his federal allowance to the people at the local govt.

not sure what doctors are being paid, but the lg people should be getting over 200k under that arrangement, and as little as 5k can get them moving.

NYSCRe: Thanks for the help ! by Man51ut(m): 10:08am On Aug 10, 2012
what batch is he? where was he posted to?

why is he in a hurry to do it now, why doesn't he finish his studies first?

i dunno about exemption letters sha. i haven't really heard of anyone getting one. even people you think might have a case (pregnancy, health reasons, young children etc) at best can get out of the camp part of it but not the working part/CD part.

the best thing is to hope that there are people who are willing to come to an 'agreement' and even that is dicey. for instance in my local government, the local govt inspector just got changed. so if i had made a deal before, that would have been kobalised by now. basically, your bf needs to make a deal with the people at where he was posted (if the state govt is paying him, then he can allow the boss there to collect that money each month). this will allow him to get his clearance letters, which ensures he gets paid the federal allowance (receiving all your federal allowance is a criteria for passing out). he needs to know the people working at the local government he registered at. befriend them, usually to find the hungry person there, and give them something.

when my sister was serving, one guy just peaced out for a month. now strolled into cd at 11, when he was supposed to have been there at 9. the nysc officials were raking, going where have you been, who gave you the authority to travel. the guy just answered, "i brought you duty free" just put one of those dubai duty free bags on the table. come and see how the officials attitude changed; they told everyone else to gtfo, told our prodigal corper to "sit down my dear".

all i know is that the dude's CD card was signed. and it's true now that im serving myself. i know people whose attendance at CD (the attendance card is prolly the main thing you use for passing out) is spotty at best and they aren't really bothered, it's already been arranged.

TL;DR- find out who can be bought at the posting, and at the local government office. come to an agreement. profit.

Litmus: So corruption is at fault for everything. In this fantasy realm of Corruption, individuals bare no responsibility for their actions. How for instance did corruption prevent Odumosu from, at the very least, equaling her personal best in the finals of the 400m Hurdles?

I've been defending the athletes as much as anyone but this is the Olympics, the greatest stage in which an athlete can compete. For me, an athlete has to be expected, at the very least, to equal their personal best at the final, if they are not injured. No Nigerian athlete to my knowledge did that. It was as if they felt inferior and defeated inside before stepping on the track . It's as if Nigerians admire Ghanaians so much they are now becoming like Ghanians in Attitude.
did usain bolt or michael phelps hit their personal best in their finals?

why didn't odumosu or okagbare feel inferior in the semis they won?

FamilyRe: Our Attitude Towards Teenage Pregnancy by Man51ut(m): 1:38am On Jun 08, 2012
The funny thing Is that all these smart guys here can't get it into their heads that no one is saying they approve of teenage pregnancy,

Teenage pregnancy is usually a mistake, what I think people are trying to say is that while we shouldn't fete teenage mums, we shouldn't cast them aside either.

I personally am pro-life and would never advocate abortion to any of my loved ones. I would not pay for one (unless life was at stake) and I honestly would find it hard to forgive my kids if they were directly involved with one although I accept that it is their decision.

Other things:
-Maybe you won't touch her with a 10 ft pole, but someone else will. There are enough stepfathers/stepmothers out there aren't there so it's not like they are like unicorn crap.

-the importance of a traditional nuclear family is overemphasised on here in my opinion. It depends on the individual. Some people are just hardened. I'm serving in a school at the moment , how many parents have been called in in the time I've been there who are utterly powerless to do anything with their kids, both fathers or mothers. You don't hve any dodgy relatives? Did they not grow up in the same house as your good relatives? Did roger Clinton not grow up with Bill? Did my drug addict cousin, not grow up in the same house as his 4 first class getting sisters. Did he not also spend his secondary school days with me and my own sister, who are not addicts?

I'm sure there are other things but I've forgotten them. Good debate.

RomanceRe: What Nerds Don't Know About Women? by Man51ut(m): 3:24am On Apr 15, 2012
It depends.

Most of what we think we know about nerds comes from Hollywood. And they choose to show extreme cases of social ineptness.
In reality most nerds will have their own friends and social circles that they feel comfortable with. and they'll prolly meet women there as that's where they feel comfortable. They' probably
have around the same success rate in their circles as the average person.

It's like if you're really into rap and you start hanging out with metal heads. Not everyone is going to be comfortable in such a situation and the women there might not respond to the same game or lyrics you would use on a girl in the rap circle. I went to a school where a guy looking sad with a guitar could get some chicks if he wasn't a comp, ete creep. In uni, I hung out mostly with jamos and I can tell you that they would have laughed at that dude with a guitar.

Also, if you really want to have a really naughty time, hook up with a nerd. Most of them are randy as hell and have seen so much stuff on the Internet they don't even think its anything...

the problem with the wii is that while the stuff that's very good, is very good, there's a lot of shovelware.

PS. apologies for my earlier comment. i have no problem if people want to mod their consoles to do other things, just feel that doing it to pirate kills what is in essence a baby industry.

I mean Harmonix were behind one of the most successful franchises in Rock Band, and still has problems breaking even.

PS. I too had a problem loading funds to my PS3 with my UK bank card. I think the problem was that my PSN account is UK based and I'm in another country and I guess the store doesn't like that.

Had to buy a PSN card online and have the code sent to me.

@Omagames, didn't know you sold these cards, is it on the site?
GamingRe: Payment On Playstation Network by Man51ut(m): 2:29pm On Nov 06, 2011
Josyrogers:
hey omagames. Been checking out your website. Think it's ok but your prices are a bit too high. Some games you sell for 14,500 naira ($94), I can get for far far less. Obviously you must make profit, but I think if you make your sales turnover high (by reducing your prices), your profit would increase. I for one would be pleased to buy from your site, and get the games same day, since my games delivery takes almost 2 weeks to get to me.
@Josy, the problem is I think they get their games from the UK/EU and if a game cost's 60 dollars in america, it costs 54 quid as the rrp. It's always been a rip off like that.

Luckily, competition and a ban on price-fixing in europe means you can usually get deals. When I lived in London, I used to get games from shopto.net for under 40 pounds (10k). I'd still use them but then you have to factor in getting the games over here.

In short, any savings I got from buying the game abroad at the cheaper rate- eg buying FIFA at 33.85 (N8500)- would be negated with the cost of getting it here safely and quick (which precludes using surface mail).

However, if you know of any courier firms that are cheap and can get my games here, let me know. Until then, I actually think this isn't really too bad.

A lit of people want the wedding and not the marriage. I told my friend the other day that I'm not getting married and he was like ahhn don't say that like I said I hope I die of aids or something. Absolute crap!

It is overrated. Name one way in which a person's life is improved by getting married? Name one benefit you married people have over me?
