President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday in Monguno, northern Borno, vowed to fish out and punish politicians whom, he said, were deliberately instigating violence in some states as a way of seeking relevance in Nigerian politics.

Buhari, according to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Malam Garba Shehu, wa s speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the closing events of the 2018 Army Day celebrations which the army chose to stage in the one-time stronghold of Boko Haram terrorists, 136 kilometres from Maiduguri.

The president repeated what he told Christian leaders on Thursday that a solution was being found to the deadly clashes between farmers and herdsmen and whosoever found culpable would be brought to justice.

Thanking the armed forces for keeping the country safe, he acknowledged that there were still challenges faced by the nation: “This does not mean there are no challenges. There are pockets of violence in several states. Some deliberately instigated by disgruntled politicians who have lost all arguments and are desperate to cause mayhem as a way of seeking relevance. We shall fish them out and punish according to the provisions of the law.”

Making a self-assessment of the administration he has led in the last three years since his election, the President said, “We have worked tirelessly to ensure and preserve the dignity and sanctity of life. When I was sworn in as the President and Commander- in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I promised that this administration would tackle the challenges of insecurity, poor economy and fight corruption.

“We are all witnesses to the fact that our once battered economy as a nation has exited recession and is once again vibrant. Our nation is safe again, thanks to the efforts of our security agencies.

“I want to use this opportunity to reassure the world, Nigerians and the families of the remaining kidnapped Chibok girls and Leah Sharebu of the Dapchi School girls that this administration will not relent in our efforts to see that they are all released. I also want to reassure all Nigerians that the issue of Farmers and Herdsmen clashes is being tackled and all those found culpable would be brought to justice. Let me quickly remind us at this point to always be tolerant, loving and ready to give peace a chance.”

Youths in Kano under the auspices of a political pressure group, ‘Ranar Wanka Buhari/Ganduje Progressive Group’, have concluded plans to hold a three million-youth march in the state to counter political activities of the APC splinter group, Reformed APC (R-APC).

Addressing a press conference in Kano on Thursday, chairman of the group, Alhaji Bala Salihu Dawaki, said the march would hold soon, as according to him, preparations had reached an advanced stage.

The Abia State born politician also said he was not quite sure Comrade Adams Oshiomhole's ‘medicine’ would be able to heal the wounds inflicted on the bodies and souls of millions of once committed party members of the APC.

President Muhammadu Buhari vowed yesterday that he will bring to end killings in Benue, Taraba, Zamafara and Pleateau States.

He gave the assurance when he received members of the Northern chapter of the Christian Association Of Nigeria led by its chairman, Rev Yakubu Pam at the presidential villa.

Describing killings across the country as wicked and unacceptable, he said no religion or culture accepts the killing of people.

He said, “I thank you very much for taking the time to pay this visit today and for the issues you have raised. The recent killings in Benue, Zamfara and lately Plateau are wicked, condemnable and completely unacceptable acts.

“We, Nigerians, are religious people and no religion or culture accepts the killing of people for any reason whatsoever. This is why we must all rise as one to condemn these vile and wicked acts to ensure that all the culprits are brought to justice.

“We owe it to the memory of those who lost their lives in the violence in Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba, Zamfara and elsewhere since 1999 to bring the conflicts to a decisive end. I assure you that we will do this”.

A former Minister of Special Duties and presidential aspirant on the platform of PDP, Alhaji Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has said any of the aspirants seeking the party’s ticket is strong enough to defeat President Muhammadu Buhari if given the ticket.

Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) stated this yesterday in Abuja when he visited the ‎PDP national secretariat to notify the National Working Committee (NWC) of his intention to run on the party’s platform.
The ex-minister said Nigeria had never been divided like now, adding that citizens were hood-winked into “entering one-chance ‎vehicle in 2015.”

According to him, “All our presidential aspirants are eminently qualified to be president of this country and each of us can perform far better than what Buhari is doing now,” he said.

Turaki said his ambition was not a do-or-die affair, adding that even if he did not get the ticket, he would support whoever emerged as the party’s candidate.
