The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), yesterday, agreed to change its name, thereby yielding to pressure from members of the Reformed-All Progressives Congress (rAPC) led by Engineer Buba Galadima as condition for them to fully join the leading opposition party. Addressing newsmen at the end of the PDP’s 80th National Executive Committee (NEC) held yesterday in Abuja, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, said a committee had been set up to work on the modalities of changing the name but declined to mention the chairman of the committee. Our correspondents’ report that in the aftermath of the MoU the PDP signed with some 39 political parties, members of the rAPC who wanted to be in the coalition from the position of strength had demanded a change of name for the PDP and automatic ticket for its members. Yesterday’s decision by the PDP NEC was seen as a breakthrough by rAPC members even though it was not yet clear if their second demand for automatic tickets for their members had been accepted. “The party has set up a committee on harmonisation to commence the process for possible change of name as part of efforts to re-brand the party ahead of the 2019 general elections,” Ologbondiyan said. “Based on the workings of the PDP, R-APC and others, the issue of name change is not about time-frame; the time is now. So let’s follow the trend as it unfolds,” he said. The PDP spokesman said the decision became necessary in order to accommodate other interests willing to return to the party including the R-APC members. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/pdp-agrees-to-change-name-fulfils-demand-by-r-apc-262389.html |

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has upgraded the growth rate forecast for Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2019 to 2.3 per cent while retaining 2.1 per cent for 2018. The IMF said the upgraded forecast reflects improved prospects for Nigeria’s growth on the back of an improved outlook for oil prices. The International monetary authority announced the new forecast in its World Economic Outlook (WEO) Update, July 2018 titled, ‘Less Even Expansion, and Rising Trade Tensions,’ released on Monday, July 16, 2018. In 2019, a GDP growth forecast of 2.3 per cent was announced for Nigeria, which was 0.4 per cent points higher than the 1.9 per cent announced in April 2018. In Sub-Saharan Africa scene, the IMF retained GDP growth forecast of 3.4 per cent in 2018, upgraded its forecast for 2019 to 3.8 per cent, from 3.7 per cent announced in April, as a result of the rise in commodity prices. On the global level, IMF retained its growth forecast for the global economy at 3.9 per cent for 2018 and 2019 but expressed concerns over mounting risks to growth, calling on fiscal authorities to avoid protectionists’ measures and seek cooperative solutions that promote growth. https://leadership.ng/2018/07/22/rise-in-crude-oil-prices-to-raise-nigerias-economy-by-2-3-in-2019/ Lalasticlala mynd44 oam4j MrKnowitall dominique |

Barcelona should sell Ousmane Dembele and sign Chelsea star Eden Hazard. That’s the opinion of Argentina superstar Lionel Messi, according to Spanish transfer website Don Balon. Spanish radio station Onda Cero have claimed that the Catalan giants are willing to offer Dembele for Hazard plus a big cash fee. And Messi, who is on holiday in Ibiza, has given his blessing to the idea. Don Balon claim the majority of the Barcelona squad are in favour of selling Dembele, who has failed to establish himself at the Nou Camp. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/messi-tells-barcelona-to-make-eden-hazard-bid-262110.html Lalasticlala oam4j mynd44 semid4lyfe honeric01 |

Youth empowerment cos is not all the youth that are benefitting from the so called N power some doesn't have the opportunity to go to school in order to obtain the certificate that would enable them to apply for n power program pls government should endeavor to scrutinize on this issue of empowerment cos is of Paramount importance. |
In December 2016, the Nigerian government commenced employment of 200,000 youths under the N-power scheme with a N30,000 remuneration. The sole aim of the programme is to alleviate poverty among Nigerian youths, especially graduates. This initiative is unprecedented in the history of Nigerian politics, therefore it is commendable. The programme is subdivided into the following: N-power teach, Agro and N-build. And the total time allocated for the programme is 24 months. Some wise persons among the beneficiaries have already ventured into small scale businesses, from their monthly earnings. At the moment, the beneficiaries have already exhausted 19 months out of 24 months, so I am posing the question; what next? There is a need for the federal government to provide an answer to that. The youths engaged in the programme need to know their fate. Personally, I don’t think the federal government should end the programme. Terminating the appointment of 200,000 youths will only add to the insecurity issue we are battling. An alternative is for the government to find a way of absorbing the youths in the various ministries, parastatals and agencies. Mynd44 seun lalasticlala oam4j Sissy3 dominique uboma davide470 |

Banbara nut (Kwaruru) farming is in recent time popular among women in Garing Bui, Gumunde and Falde communities in Arewa local government area of Kebbi State. Because of its profitability and market the three communities with over 34 villages is fast becoming the hub for banbara nut production in Kebbi State. Traders from the East and other parts of the country often converge in sokoto to buy banbara nut. Because of the boom in its trade traders from Sokoto,Argungu,Yeldu, Kangiwa often patronize banbara nut farmers in Garin Bui, Falde and Gumunde. During the IFAD-CASP/FGN third supervision mission to Kebbi State one of the banbara nut farmers, Hajiya Fati Ansar who took our correspondent to her farm at Garin Bui in Arewa local government area of the state said she started farming the nut 45 years ago and it remains her major crop because it is profitable. “I started growing Banbara nut (Kwaruru) since I was small. About 45 years ago I used to follow my mother to farm it. It was my mother’s main crop so I grew up farming it and I am still in it till today because it is a profitable crop. Whenever I harvest it I keep some for my family and the remaining for sale. I use part of the proceeds to buy cattle and other things that my family needs. Sometimes whenever my daughters’ wants to marry I sell some bags to raise money to buy their clothes, cooler, beddings, cooking pots, plates and other things they need for their marriage (Kayan Aure)”. She said because of the demand for it a bag of Banbara nut sells between N22,000 to N25,000 and a plate of it (Mudu) is N450. She said “It is in high demand particularly during another farming season. People come all the way from Sokoto, Niger and other states to buy from us in Bui village. I farm Banbara nut (Kwaruru) once a year. This year I cultivated five hectares of land to plant it. When I plant it, it will only take five days for it to germinate. At any farming season I use bull to plough the farm and I pay some number of people to help me in the planting and harvesting. It is not what I can do alone sometimes we spend up to five or seven hours in the farm. I need other people to help me and it has been very rewarding during each harvesting year. During harvesting I get up to 50 bags and sometimes over 40 bags it depends because everything comes from God. It takes only three month for it to be ready for harvesting. We take it to Sokoto, Argungu, Kangiwa and Yeldu to sell”. Hajiya Fati stated that the crop was popular among the women in the area. “What we heard is that apart from eating banbara nut is being used to produce biscuit and soap. The market is always there for it. You can see that it is very popular with women in this area. It is a crop we prefer farming every year because it is profitable. However, we farm it only during the raining season. We have to wait every year for the rain to fall before we can plant it. I have no regret farming it because through the year I don’t lack I have bags of banbara nut stock at home. Anytime I need money I always go there to take about two or three bags to the market. I have built a house, I sponsored my daughters marriage and I am leaving comfortably well from the proceeds I am making from farming banbara nut. Like I told you the nut is in high demand here. Many of us farming it are women. I am the secretary of one of the associations that form our community development association (CDA) in Bui. We are getting support from the IFAD-CASP/FGN. The training we are getting on good farm practice, improved seeds and awareness on when to start our farming activities during the raining season has help us a lot. We still need more support to expand and boost banbara nut production because it is a profitable venture.” https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/how-kebbi-women-make-fortune-farming-banbara-nut-262085.html naijacutee FOD dominique puskin FarmTech Pavore9 |
