CrimePowerful People Mounting Pressure For Release Of Kidnappers Collecting Ransom by ManirBK(op): 12:24pm On Aug 03, 2021
The police are under
pressure to release two
suspects arrested in
connection with the
kidnap of a victim
whose ransom was
paid through the bank.
Daily Trust had reported
how one Mr. Saheed
Adewuyi whose wife
was abducted paid
N500,000 ransom
through the bank.

After the story, the
police arrested two
suspects , Badawi Abba,
owner of the account,
and a Point of Sale (POS)
operator, who collected
the cash from Abba.
Abba, who claimed to be
a cosmetics seller at
Ibrahim Badamosi
Babangida Market,
Suleja, Niger State, had
last week hired a lawyer
to defend him.
Daily Trust had
reported that the
suspects, working with
kidnappers who are
operating between the
Federal Capital Territory
(FCT) and Niger State,
were nabbed by the
police officers attached
to Area Command of ‘A’
Division in Suleja .
However, two police
officers, who spoke to
our correspondent in
confidence, said their
superiors, have been
receiving calls from
powerful people to
release the two
suspects.
“In fact, I’m tired. Since
this story was published
by Daily Trust, we have
not rested. We are just
getting calls left and
right to release those
two people we
suspected to have links
with those kidnappers,”
one of the officers said.
Another officer said
relatives of two suspects
are currently lobbying
police officers and some
top politicians to
intercede on their
behalf.
Meanwhile, the
Inspector-General of
Police, Usman Baba, has
waded into the matter,
directing members of
his Intelligence
Response Team (IRT) to
ensure the main
criminals are arrested.
After Baba’s order, some
suspects were arrested.
They are currently being
detained at the
headquarters of the
defunct Special Anti-
Robbery Squad (SARS),
Abuja.

PoliticsMade-in-nigeria Foods: NAFDAC Raises Alarm Over Rejection By US, EU by ManirBK(op):
The Director-General of the National Agency
for Food and Drug Administration and
Control, NAFDAC, Prof Moji Adeyeye on
Sunday decried the incessant rejection of
food and agricultural commodities from
Nigeria by the United States of America USA
and the European Union member countries
over what she described as “poor quality”.
Adeyeye in a press statement on Quality and
Safety of Export Food Trade made available
to Vanguard, urged all the regulatory
agencies at the port saddled with the
responsibility of ensuring high quality of
imports and exports to find urgent and
lasting solutions to Rapid Alert System for
Food and Feed (RASFF) Border Rejection
Notifications from the European Commission
on products originating from Nigeria.
Adeyeye lamented the resultant bad image
the repeated rejection of commodities from
Nigeria by the EU has caused the country.
She expressed concern over the volume of
food and agricultural commodities from
Nigeria that is currently facing challenges at
entry points in some countries in Europe
and the US where they have been repeatedly
rejected.

‘’NAFDAC has a statutory responsibility to
safeguard public health through the
execution of its mandate. We are charged
with the responsibility to regulate and
control the manufacture, importation,
exportation, distribution, advertisement, sale
and use of food, drugs, cosmetics, medical
devices, bottled and packaged water,
chemicals – generally referred to as NAFDAC
regulated products.’’
“NAFDAC is designated as World Trade
Organization/Sanitary and Phytosanitary
Enquiry Point in Nigeria on Food Safety to
facilitate international trade, and respond to
enquiries on safety standards, regulations,
and guidelines on food trade in Nigeria.
Adeyeye said internationally, Nigeria’s
products meant for the export market are
faced with the presence of contaminants
such as pesticide residues, notoriously
dichlorvos and other impurities, exceeding
maximum permitted level and some with
inadequate packaging and labelling which
had caused a lot of products’ rejections in
the global market.
She noted that the international market is
competitive in nature and only welcomes
products of high quality with relevant
certifications and quality packaging that is
environmentally friendly, to trade globally,
stressing that the problem of quality,
standard, certification, and appropriate
packaging for made-in-Nigeria products
destined for export has been an issue in the
international market and there is a need to
address the issue of rejections.
The NAFDAC boss disclosed that the Agency
has over the years intervened to assist
Nigerian exporters to meet with
international regulations thereby creating
employment and earning foreign exchange
for Nigeria.
Through this intervention by NAFDAC, she
added that it was agreed that these
products be subjected to 100 per cent pre-
export testing and issuance of Health
Certificate to products with satisfactory
limits before European Union further verifies
at their border control points.https://www.vanguardngr.com/2021/08/made-in-nigeria-foods-nafdac-raises-alarm-over-rejection-by-us-eu/

Crime2 Abducted FGGC Yauri Students Escape Bandits’ Den, Taken To Dansadau by ManirBK(op): 6:14am On Aug 01, 2021
Two students abducted by bandits from Federal Government College, Yauri in Kebbi state escaped bandits’ den, Daily Trust gathered.

A credible source told our correspondent that the students wandered in the wilderness and then found themselves at Dandalla, a community located five kilometres south of Dansadau town.

“They entered one house there not even knowing where they were. The residents, after identifying them decided to hide them until it was sunset. They then took them to Dansadau where they handed them over to the Divisional Police Officer. As I’m talking to you, they being taken to Gusau for profiling.

“The students are believed to be in bandits’ captivity at Kuyanbana, a forest that straddles Zamfara, Kebbi, Kaduna Katsina and Niger states.

“The kidnappers are hiding kidnapped victims in that forest, irrespective of where they are abducted from. People kidnapped from neighbouring states and even Kano state are being hidden in the forest that is dotted with several bandits’ camps and settlements.

The spokesman of the state police command SP Muhammad Shehu could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.

At least 30 students and three teachers were abducted when bandits invaded the school in June.

The attackers, who rode on motorcycles, were said to have stormed the school from neighbouring Rijau forest on a Thursday afternoon.

They were said to have overpowered the mobile policemen guarding the school.

Tunde Rahman, Special Adviser on Media to National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied his principal is dead or hospitalised.

Rahman made this known on Saturday in a statement following rumours the former Lagos Governor has passed on.

The statement reads: “His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is fine. He is hale and hearty. He is not in any hospital. He has no medical problem that would require hospitalisation.

“Yes, he is out of the country at the moment. He will be back shortly. Anytime he travels out of the country, the next thing some mischievous people would say is he is sick, hospitalized or has died.

“It is shameful that perpetrators of this evil are not deterred by the fact that each time this fake news has been propagated, they have been proven wrong.

“Who really is afraid of Asiwaju Tinubu? Those wishing Asiwaju Tinubu evil or dead should be careful. They should know the matter of life and death is in the hand of only God Almighty."
