mightyhazell: Why don't I like this idea of giving free food 2 pupils?
Y not gv dem free textbooks if at all u want 2 gv out ssth free. There is this loss of dignity dat coms with giving sb food for free. That is why I seldom eat at receptions and gatherings,no matter how good and enticing the food is.
I prefer vocational or even recreational centres be set up for kids rather dan serving dem 'free food' like beggars abeg! Bros, School feeding program is globally acknowledged as a central element in the education of children. This is backed by World Bank, UNICEF and WHO........ Your textbook comparison is as good as "apples" and "oranges" |

Mdik: Dear Mr. President sir, the last time I checked, feeding school children is the least of the problems we have in Anambra State. Just build industries where our children can work after school, keep your food. Kukuma withdraw your children from school or better still close down the schools so that your children can go and work in the supposed "industry". I wonder if it is lost on you that the fundamental civil rights the government is required to bequeath on these children is the right to sound education....... |

Bros sometimes I wonder if Nigeria has any reasonable person in a leadership position. The schools do not have any library or scientific laboratory yet these jackasses only worry about food. I guess the kids will be all foods no brains. Read what you just wrote carefully again, u just made no sense. This what part of APC promise and if they had failed to fulfill it, illiterate zombies like u, would come online and start spewing trash .....Ironically he was wondering "if Nigeria has any reasonable person in a leadership position"....... yet his putting the cart-before-the-horse submission is as unreasonable as can be imagined. How do you expect hungry pupils to read in the library or perform any science experiement (meanwhile I would imagine that Anambra state public schools all have "scientific laboratories" (whatever that means)) |

There are better ways to put those money to good use that will still end up benefiting the children Talk about Nigerians and being difficult to please............. in one breadth you shout "There is hunger in the land", now government is feeding school children, you ask " is this the most important thing?"........ Pray tell, what better way to put the money into good use? I hope you know that it has been scientifically and medically proven that hungry children cannot assimilate NADA!!!! |

Johnnyessence: School feeding in the elementary schools has improved drastically in our kids learning. Infact it makes them to go to school on time. With this feeding ability to read and write will drastically improved. Can we applaud Ogbeni Aregbesola, who popularised the program despite negative criticisms |

Tafari1: The fact is that the recruitment isn't transparent. Out of 14 selected and 3 reserve for CASP in Kwara state, 4 were from ilorin West and I know them very well, 1 is a son to a former DIG and 2 others come from a very strong family in ilorin. The recruitment may not favour Senators from other states o... But not in Kwara. Bros, Stories like yours are not only hearsay, but unnecessary, attention-seeking and ignoble. Judging by reactions on majority on NL (if I will use that as a test case) many testified to the veracity of the process and that it was simply on merit. |

gypsey: yes but the people scavenging the waste needed to be mentioned, whether they are scavenging because of the recession, because they are jobless, because they enjoy the smell of the dumbsite, scavenging for a hobby, fun or because they are poor and hungry. otherwise the report would not be fundamentally reported. Since the report avers that the average take home pay of a typical scavenger is 3x the national minimum wage, then the thrust of the report falls flat. Recession is something people can give as excuse, yes, but I could not draw the nexus between the impact of recession and scavenging as reported in this piece. |
Career › Re: Recession: More Nigerians Resort To Dumpsite Scavenging.. by mapet: 8:39am On Dec 09, 2016 |
Amanwulu1: it is not nigerian journalists but ur understanding. D emphasis is on more nigerians. meaning dat scavenging dump-site didn't start wit recession but recession has made many who ordinarily wouldn't go there to go there. That in itself is questionable. The report did not show any statistical evidence to back this. He just picked up about 4persons, interviewed them and voila he came to such conclusion. |

9jakohai: Very sad....but at the same time, if Nigerians can use this opportunity to turn waste to wealth....ie set up recycling plants.....this can take us out of recession and provide more jobs.
It isn't bad news.
What some rich investors should do is turn the waste to useful things....like building power plats fuelled by waste, and using the raw materials from waste to fuel our industrial development.
There is a silver lining in every cloud. Bros, Trust me, there is nothing sad in it. This is something a lot of people have been making good money from over 20yrs ago till now. If you're not ashamed, and you like this business, then it is sustainable. The reporter is just lazy not to have done his homework well |

Acidosis: We can do a survey. I can assure you that 9 out of 10 Nigerian graduates will embrace Buhari's 30k over a 60k scavenging job. Bros, Without a certified stats, your submission falls flat. There is a young lady from Kwara state, a graduate of Uni-Ilorin that started We-cyclers. She is trendly internationally at the moment. My business plan/MBA project at business school 7-8years ago was on Waste Management Business and I can tell you that this is an industry that is under-tapped, yet-to-be structured, yet there is a lot of money being made by people already in it. If the journalist that put up the rubbish report is not lazy, he would have found out that these scavengers are actually feeders to bigger collectors in the value-chain. For example, there is a huge demand from China for plastic pellets. The scavengers to feed this market collect as little as pure-water sachet which is processed into pellets. These people collect with raffia bags, We-cyclers collect with customized tricycles. Graduates are coming into this business and will "spin" the industry |

Mynd44: Nigerian Journalists are really something else
And
With this amount of average earning, does there have to be a recession before people take this profession?
Even without recession, how much do civil servants earn? How much do private school teachers earn?
Just imagine, and flexible hours too yet this journalist seem to think it is caused by recession. No, the pay is freaking attractive to a lot of people In fact, as I was reading the report I asked myself if the body of the report was for another title. some of our journalist are crude, unprofessional and can never grow. This report simply points to the positives in waste-to-wealth |
Properties › Re: Top 6 Reasons Why the Lagos Rent-to-Own Scheme is Great by mapet: 8:20am On Dec 09, 2016 |
ColonelDrake: Would you advise anyone to participate in this scheme? 25million with 5% downright payment and the balance spread over 10 years. What if one loses his job? What will happen? cc: Bagehot Interestinq question. My humble submissions are these 1. The scheme is very helpful and necessary to bridge the housing gap. Without schemes like these many will not be able to afford a house, even on the long run. Obviously the scheme is tailored to some socialist and capitalist countries housing scheme 2. Will I advise anyone to participate. The answer is relative. First off, the choice is exclusively with the individual, whether to own a house or not, whether to buy a fully built house or to build from the scratch. These choices are informed by many factors, one of it is the poser raised - Availability of a bulk-sum cash (N25m in this context). My wife and I built our house from the scratch. It took us 5years to complete. Why? because we did not want to be subjected to the "weight" of expensive mortages and private bank schemes. That "5years" was a harrowing, challenging and very tough experience, but it is history now. It is more like compressing a 15-20yr interest into 5yrs. So personally I went for something more challenging than the Lagos Rent-to-own scheme 3. Now there is no life without it's attendant risks. Yes you may loose your job, or some other mishap may happen. But that is just one of the probabilities. Have you consider the positives? What if your earning power changes along the line and you walk up to Lagos state government to request for a bigger scheme and renegotiate your terms? What is you even opt to cash-out along the line and use the money to buy a bigger house? My approach to life is that we keep moving on with a positive mindset and when we get to trouble waters we, solve it |

FYI ,it is not an offense for a Judge who earns N24M to spend N1billion in 24 hours!! showing he spent N500m is no proof of crime ,the DSS will have to prove that the money was proceeds of crime.Whether he spends N1000 or N500m is immaterial before the law. What the law expects the DSS to prove is that the money was gotten through crime shikena You're just a waste of my time. |

donodion: This is diaappointing and unacceptable on the part of ministry of power. Besides, shortage of gas supply ( thanks but no thanks to gas pipeline explosion qs a result of the militias), the rest in quote could be largely blame on; inefficient, inconsistent and unreliable maintenance practises.
For goodness sake what happened to power back in the case of accidents or failed power structure. Yet The DISCOs sought to have tarrif increment with little to nothing worth commending to show for.
Every ministries need quartely evaluations, appraisals and or restructure.
Who will Fashola blame now? Can you please elaborate on this? I think it is beyond those. I will like someone on the inside to help us with proper information. My suspicion is that these power plants are either requiring turn-around-maintenance or they are largely over/under flogged hence incessant breakdowns |

NICENEDU29: Who established what? In which court and before which judge was it established? See, my friend, from all indications, it is obvious that you are a layman. How can you conclude so quickly that a fact is already established when trial on the matter has not even commenced, let alone saying judgment has been delivered on it? The prosecution merely introduced the matter and stated how it is going to present its case to the court and you quickly jumped into the conclusion that the facts have been established even when no witness has been examined in chief and cross examined. Is that how you reason? See, let me tell you: being a layman is not bad, but it is very bad when you blatantly refuse to be corrected by a learned person. Stop your needless rambling and rants........You can say all these jargos in a single sentence Meanwhile who is the learned person? You? |

kcnwaigbo: so where in the rule of the house(Nigeria) is spending N500M a crime? The laws clearly preclude a judge from doing any other business, that is the code of ethic sworn to by the judge. The burden off proof is upon the judge to show how the N500m is made from his legitimate earnings. |

NICENEDU29: Mr. man you are just assuming. In law you do not assume that way. The law is so clear on that. Do not assume facts that are unrelated to the case at hand. What assumption? The facts related to this case is that it has been established that a Judge on N24m/yr made a payment of N500m in ten months. The law is prosecuting the judge for having "yet-to-be-explained" funds in his possession............ |

WOCKHARDI: Three questions to whom it may concern : 1. Is it established that this is part of the so called Dasukigate? Most likely, NO. 2. Has the government or anybody or institution traced its missing money to this man? Again, NO. 3. Most importantly, throughout the tenure of this man as a Justice of the High Court, can a single case be cited where his judgement was compromised as to assume that he took bribe money? And has anyone come forward to claim he/she bribed him to influence his/her case? So no one should have money in excess of his /her official earning, cannot own Company shares or have other legitimate sources of income? SMH. Don't misunderstand me. I abhor corruption.
