You think the man the man you accuse is such a dumbo not to know these things? He rightly told you in that interview yesterday that he followed all these laws to the letter, so why exactly is this atill an issue?... he mentioned in that interview that he resigned from the board of over 10 companies the very day he was announced governor, so why exactly are you still calling for his neck? Irrational hatred (or probably partisan or tribally infuenced)??
He resigned from the board of over 10companies he said, then why did it take him 14 months after he became Governor to resign the directorship of Next International UK? Is that compliance?

Was he ignorant of the law or he was just wilfully cheating the system.

Hatred? Did he break the law or not? You know my “hatred” led him to break the law

How is it illegal? Please provide the specific law that says so?

If your claim was that it doesn't portray sufficient level of patriotism (even though that's a watery argument just to disguise the disdain towards the individual),, that would have been a better argument even. Please explain what's illegal about it.
1. it is illegal to hold a position as directorship of any company and maintain an elective, ministerial and government post - Section 6 CCB Act
2. It is not only illegal but criminal to employ secrecy to hide offshore holdings. Aside from failing to declare, you are evading taxes doing so which is clearly different from permissible tax avoidance
3. When you operate foreign accounts, simply declare and deactivate those accounts while you hold public office or get a trust to operate it and have nothing to do with it till you're out of government. The law (both the consititution and public service code of conduct) clearly states you cannot operate a foreign account

Why should I pay more taxes when I have the free choice to pay less?

This isnt even about Nigeria; all over the world, businessmen will always seek for ways to lessen their tax burden... and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
I have no problem with paying less when you have the option, what I have problem with is exploiting the law illegally. When you hide in tax-havens, just make sure you are in no breach of the Nigerian laws.

There are legit ways of bypassing them let alone if they can be avoided totally.

Taxation in Nigeria give tax wavier to individuals and companies if the donate to certain organizations and claim some condition approved by law to beat down tax.

What l want to hear is Peter Obi loot govt money like Abacha or Ibori and the money is about to be send home .
All these pandora blablabblab that he has offshore account or do this and that is rubbish
It will not prevent him from any political position.
If those in kano caught on video pocketing bribe is still a governor is it someone private business strategy that should border us.

The businesses are abroad, so paying taxes there and also in Nigeria is dumb as it amounts to double taxation.
Most international tax laws requires you to do so

The responsibility of government in the use of taxes does not preclude citizens from fulfilling their requirement of the law. You cannot break the law simply because you see government breaking the law. In such instances you loose the most

You think am, Nigeria is not safe, most big men knows this, incase of war or any a government that don't respect rule of law freeze their account they could quickly get out and still remain afloat
I believe the OP's question is not about the choice of where people store their money, rather it is about paying the rightful taxes on monies made even before you make your choice on where to store the money.

As for Peter Obi, he has already explained his in that video posted here yesterday.

According to him, when the company that operates an offshore account was floated, he lived in London. You cannot be based in London and be paying taxes to Nigeria.

He added that the company was operated that way based on the professional advice of a consulting firm (he gave its name), noting that it was never unlawful to do it. He also said that the company wasn't used to launder money before, during and after his term as governor.

To date, I will continue to hold Peter Obi and Donald Duke in high esteem because they are the only two former governors who are active in politics and weren't invited by the EFCC for money laundering scandals after spending 8 years in office. That's commendable!
Peter Obi is simply deflecting from the infractions he's accused of. Premium Times had stated that Peter Obi is giving explanations for thing he was not accused of. For emphasis, Peter Obi had refused to answer questions as per
1. Peter Obi continued to hold his position as a director of his UK company, NEXT International (UK) Limited, 14 months after becoming the governor of Anambra State in contravention of Section Six of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Tribunal Act.
2. Peter Obi set up complicated layers of secrecy to hide his offshore holdings, which he admitted to failing to declare to the Code of Conduct Bureau......breaching Section 11, Part of the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution.
3. Peter Obi as a governor was also operating a foreign account in breach of the constitution and the public service code of conduct rules.

3 Laws Peter Obi broke here. The accusation is not his decision to hide his investment in tax havens, it is his failure to declare these investments in his declaration form when he became Governor.

What an ignorant submission!!! You make submission outside the context of the OP's submission. Even at that, tax laws require you to pay part taxes to home countries. Even expatriates (Americans, Europeans for example) that earn income in Nigeria remit taxes from these income to their home countries.

Nigeria's budget and budget structures....Always good on Paper, although figures not enough...but Zero implementation and impact are always the problem.

From this budget, for example, health sector.....all appears to be captured, including harzard allowance for health works....Somehow, we will still see Drs going on strike because of hazard allowance cheesy cheesy , money will not be released..There is no money is what they say. grin grin
Bros cool down....

1. Budget is a statement of intent... it is not physical money
2. There is no Zero implementation anywhere. Govts (Fed. & States) get budget performance stats released by agencies like NBS, BugdIT etc
3. You will still have to meet a substantial revenue targets before monies promised in the budget can be released. When these critical needs cannot wait for revenues to be met and they need to be addressed immediately, then such deficits are funded with loans, bonds etc...

Now I believe the conversation more beneficial for us is indicated in your second paragraph. We need to access the adequacy of this budget to meet present needs. Is ~N10tr enough for the critical sector and growth needs. While I am happy that Health, Education and Defense have been allocated significant portion, I would have loved the 3 + Infrastructure to take about 50% of the budget. On health we need to ramp up in facilities, increase in training and churn of health professionals, increase in pay (A doctor must earn equivalent to a bank (Zenith, GTBank, Access etc.) manager). PHC's must continue to grow like Redeem churches. Health Insurance Schemes must be revamped and accelerated.

On Infrastructure - Roads and Trains are priority. Lagos -Calabar Coastal Rail must start.

On education - I believe we should continue on little steps. Teachers wages should be baselined to banks and telcos mid-level. Teachers should go through a highly competitive certification program like US & Europe, such that those with certification should earn salaries competitive with other sectors. States UBEC funding should be deducted at source, no questions asked....

Also let me quickly point out that TAX AVOIDANCE is not a crime anywhere in the world. It might be unethical but it’s definitely not illegal and literally any entrepreneur or businessman operating on that kind of scale will usually find a loophole around paying exorbitant taxes and reduce that.
